B Smith has been rescued from the den of torture she’d been trapped in—but her savior is none other than the murderous maniac clown Mr. Dowling. He’s desperate to woo B and have her become his bride. He disgusts her, but B knows an opportunity when she sees one. Can she marry a monster if it means saving the world?

Am improvement from the last couple issues. Some strange humor and the oddest wedding you have likely ever encountered. Mr Dowling is far more than he seems. Although I am beyond lost as to what any characters are hoping to create for a future. Everyone has there own ideas yet I don't see how any of them will be making it happen. The stuff about the babies was curious and the stuff with Holy Moly is almost sweet, in a very creepy way. In general, I was so skeptical going into this. I even thought about just saying "forget it" after the first 2 chapters. But I am glad I stuck it out. It was an improvement to the series.
I just finished Zom-B Bride by Darren Shah. And I enjoyed it a lot.
Rating: 4.6/5 🌟
It's the 10th book in the Zom-B series. So if you guys haven't read the first 9 books then stop reading this coz It might spoil those books for you.
The story starts where the 9th book ended, when B Smith is taken down a tunnel into the darkness of Mr. Dowlings underground lair. . B gets a makeover in this book. And she also get proposed. And lemme tell you guys Mr. Dowling is really romantic.
So this book basically follows how B Smith recovered, how she got proposed, how was the wedding and what happens after the wedding. . We also learn a lot about Mr. Dowlings background.
Like I said in my precious reviews, these books are really gruesome. They contain a lot of blood shed and some really creepy illustrations.
Another winner. I love how short these stories are, but it always leaves as a cliffhanger and I have to wait for the next one to be published. Excellent!
This was an interesting read. I have to say this was also maybe the creepiest and oddest book of the series. It was creepy because of the zombie babies. I was really creeped out by them. It was odd because of Mr. Drowning's love for B. I thought it was like a straight out obsession. I did find it interesting to learn more about Mr. Drowning and the zombie babies that he created. I thought B was good through most of the book, and then made me remember who she really was at the end. The ending was great. I can't wait to read Book 11. Only two more books to read in the series. I can't wait to see how it goes. Overall, an intriguing read.
I think this is the best book in the series. it was very good because we got a lot of answers that we have all been thinking about . it has a really good ending and is very grim but very good
Everything I wanted since first meeting Mr Dowling all the books ago, getting more of his back story and learning just how he fits into Shans mythology for his zombie infested world and the larger scale plan he has in place for the warring factions. It was great to get an insight into the forces that B has been working against since the beginning, up to this point they have only been something we see from afar but never get to see up close. We are now privy to the deepest and darkest secrets of the stories antagonist and the plans he has, these may have been changed with the ending of this novel but now is the time in which the story reaches its climax and we will begin to see the end. How will Mr Dowling react to the latest events to transpire?? How will Rage and Owl Man impact the end of the story and can it really all be put to right or will this series; much like the rest of Shans have a massively twisted end. I couldn't put this book down and simply destroyed it over a day, I hope to return to this world within a few weeks to see what happens and see the stage set for what may come in the final instalment. Amazing work from Darren Shan.
(As usual, spoiler free for this book but my review contains spoilers for previous books in the series)
So B has gone off with the crazy clown Mr. Dowling and his hoard of babies. Things are not looking good.
Except things are not as bad as they seem. Mr. Dowling has grand plans for B & they are pretty obvious from the title of the book. But surely B would never agree to such a thing...
This book is all about Mr. Dowling. He's a villain I've not been overly keen on thus far, too absurd & silent. But all that changes here. He's given a voice, although not in the obvious way, and we find out a lot more about him & who he was before he went mad. He is made more real & for the first time we have reason to sympathise with him.
We also learn more about the babies and B's connection to them. The creepy babies become weirdly likeable in this book, which I wouldn't have expected.
A great continuation of the series, less action-packed & more plot-driven but none the worse for it. It has a dramatic end & I already can't wait until the next one!
Interesting new perspective on Mr. Dowling. How I missed B! I am starting to get really sad knowing that there are only 2 more books! I will miss B so much! How awesome if Hollywood made a movie out of this series.
Once again, we get total grossgustingness a la Shan. But my God, those babies...they're too creepy for words. *shudders* At least we got a great ending for this one. Can't wait for Fugitive!
3.5 stars I feel the entire series is starting to pick up now that it's getting towards the end. I really liked this book and how it was probably the fastest paced book out of the entire series. There was just so much happening in this book and it made it super enjoyable and not want to put it down. This book was about B being rescued by Mr. Dowling from Dan-Dan (ugh I really hated that man) and his accomplices. Mr. Dowling wants B to be his wife... yeah very strange and B is trying to figure out what good can happen if she marries him. Overall, this book was very fast paced and I just loved how much action was happening. The ending definitely made the book even better with the twist. At the starting of this book, you can tell that the rest of the series will be just as fast-paced.
These are like crack. Impossible to put down. Despite being occasionally grotesque and ridiculous, B's adventures are entertaining and keep me coming back for more
Oh boy, just finished the book, and I have to say I am satisfied, and yet I do not know if I will be able to wait so long for the 11th book.
A lot transpires in Zom-b Bride; we finally get a glimpse at the lives of the villains that have been shadowing the series since day one. I really like that about this particular book, because how often do the bad guys have their stories told? I mean, what makes a character bad anyway? There's got to be a reason, and this book enlightens us a little. It also definitely adds a whole new plot twist, one that can lead to an epic ending for the finale.
My one issue was with the ending. Why would such a perfect start be ruined? Why?! Mind you, I am traumatized about the events that occurred, not Mr. Shan's writing.
Here goes a long waiting period for book 11.
Old Updates
That looks like...on the cover...why the dress??? Why the title??? AGH, my need to know is great!
When I first picked up Zom-B I never expected to be devouring book ten as soon as it arrived through my letterbox, but I gobbled up Zom-B Bride in a matter of hours.
We left B as she made a deal with the devil (super creepy clown, Mr Dowling) in order to save the humans left at the power plant. Being carried across London by a hoarde of zombie babies is seriously creepy and a brilliant image, but I was more disturbed by B’s seeming ease with the babies! But once they arrived at Mr Dowling’s it suddenly made sense. In revealing his plan, Dowling shed some light on some of the stranger things he’s done to help B over the course of the series. It was a total surprise and I love the direction it took, even if it was slightly creepy.
As B spent more and more time with Mr Dowling, and communicating with him in surprising ways, I actually began to feel a little sorry for him. He was a man once and Zom-B Bride explored that wonderfully; his dissent into crazytown and how it has affected his judgement and morality was really interesting. I love how Darren Shan uses Mr Dowling to look at good and evil and how it can blur when you put the actual human being into the equation. Brilliant!
As always, I this instalment of the series and I can’t wait for the next. It does make me sad that there are only two left, though...
I really am very fond of Darren Shan; he continues to be one of my favourite authors. For any faults he may have, the earnestness with which he writes makes any of his books a pleasant reading experience. Darren's imagination is broad and his ability to plot a long series, maintaining interest by slowly revealing information, is quite impressive. While most people like the novels with a lot of action, for me his best books are usually the slower paced volumes that provide us with insight into the author's imagination, the inner workings of a story. The Lake of Souls was my favourite in the Saga, Dark Calling my favourite of the Demonata, both because they gave answers to questions posed half a dozen books ago. With the exception of possibly the first book (my lengthy review of that one is here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...), Zom-B bride is perhaps my favourite in the series so far, as it provides us with uniquely imagined answers and explanations.
Darren shan never fails i always go into one of his books knowing im going to love it and im always right. This instalment was no exception i loved it so much im now second guessing my feelings on a few pf the characters i used to hate and i enjoyed the back story on some of the 'villains' of the story and on the babies i t made me laugh, kept me hooked was interested and a lot of questions were answered it wasn't as action packed as the previous books but i think this book was one of the best as Darren shan great at character building and adding twists and turns as always his writing was incredible and i adored it i need the next book please
Another epic story from the master of horror. This one doesn't disappoint as always. Looking at some of the pictures that are included makes me wish this series was done in a complete graphic novel. That would be epically awesome!
It is a horror genre but its not really that scary. It is in a 13 book series. It is a really good book with lots of action and good relationships between characters. It was normally quite an exciting book with a bit of funny and sad bits. The ending was a bit predictable because they talk about it before the end. I would recommend it to anyone over 10 because it can be slightly graphic at times.
This book is called “Zom-B Bride” and it’s by Darren Shan. This is the 9 or 10 book made by him in the series. In the last book she was tortured by a man who called himself Dan Dan! He was a sociopath who would kidnap and torture kids to deaths. She was rescued by her enemy who was a zombie/humans clown who led an army of mutants . Becky rescued as many humans as she could in the time that the facility was being overrun by mutants. During the battle she was hurt from the wounds that were all over her body which were cause by Dan Dan. She was later carried by the evil tiny zombie babies whore took her underground into a sewage system were the evil clown HQ was located. This part of the story got really weird because the clown ask becky to marry him. At first Becky refused but later on she thought for some crazy reason that she might be able to change the clowns mind to stop killing people. She accepted the proposal from the evil clown and then they went into a secret room were the clown used an electric wire to zap both of them in the head to link their memory together and share their knowledge. Becky was searching his memory for a toxin tube that could kill all the living human left on the earth. She found the vile tube but at the same time the evil clown found out Becky's intentions and he separated there memory link. They were both trying to regain their body's movement but the shock from the electric was still in effect. The evil clown gain control of his body and tried to choke becky that gave becky time to regain her body’s control since zombies can not suffocate. Becky got up and used the electric wire and used it to zap the evil clown on the heads almost to death. She was still healing from getting tortured and was exhausted and just when she thought that she was good to go the evil babies came because she hurt the evil clown. The babies were starting to rip Becky apart and she tried to get them of her but there were too many. When she thought that it was the end for her one of the babies who had a hole in it’s forehead and who had some history with becky told the others that becky was their mother and that they shouldn’t hurt her! The babies all thought about it and then apologize for hurting Becky. She thank the babe who had a hole on it’s forehead and left the HQ. That was the end of thy book which was really weird but awesome and i can’t wait for the next book!
(spoiler alert!) Becky Smith wakes up only to find out that she is being carried by the zombie babies that saved her from the attack by Mr. Dowling's army on the base of the KKK and Then Becky Realizes that the Babies are head strait towards Mr. Dowing's base, but it turns out that Mr. Dowling is not going to attack her. since Becky is injured he would heal her. he doesn't know that she is trying to get him to tell her where the vial of Sleshinger 10 is. but the weird that is that Mr. Dowling asks Becky to marry him. she only says yes because she wants to know where the vial is. so they have a wedding and and get married. he finally tells Becky where the vial is and that was a mistake because she knocks him out and runs away with the vial but the Babies that helped her earlier end up seriously injuring her because she hurt "Daddy" but she gets them to stop attacking her. so she escape with the vial very slowly... (To Be Continued)
My Favorite character was Becky because she found a way to trick Mr. Dowling to give up Sleshinger 10. My least favorite characters were a lot of the babies because in my opinion they didn't know better and attacked Becky by accident. one thing that Becky Could've done better was not betray Mr. Dowling so Much because there is a good possibility that he could attack Becky and her friends in the next book. One thing that Becky did great at was tricking Mr. Dowling into giving her the Vial of Sleshinger 10. One thing that Mr. Dowling could have done better was realize earlier that Becky Smith was tricking him the whole time he thought that she was on his side. My favorite moment in the book was went Becky escaped with the vial because I personally want her to end zombies and return the control back to the humans again. My least favorite part of the book is when Becky and Mr. Dowling got married because I think it was unnecessary for her to marry him to get the Vial of Sleshinger 10. That wraps up my book review, lastly I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because it is a hooking book that hard to put down but has some very minor errors here and there.
This book was good but not as good as the others. It was more of an information book.
In this book we see more of Owl Man and Mr.Dowling. B is taken to Mr.Dowlings lair/home in secret subway tunnels.
We find out what the creepy babies are, how they came to be and why they call B mummy all the time. We also fins out a lot about Mr.Dowling. Mr. Dowling communicates mentally with his followers and he establishes this connection using electricity. He shocks B and from then on he is able to communicate with her.
In this book we find out about who Mr. Dowling was before he went bat s*** crazy, how he is connected to Owl Man and Dr. Oystein, what role he has in the zombie and mutant gene and why he is obsessed with B. B stays in Mr.Dowling's "house" the entire book. She is brought there and at first, Mr. Dowling takes care of her injured body. However it becomes clear that she is not free to leave there. She is repeatedly shocked with electricity and is allowed more access to Mr.Dowling's brain each time. He loves B and he wants her to have access to his whole memory but he won't allow it until she agrees to marry him.
In this book, the reader can begin to take pity on Mr.Dowling and become soft when it comes to him. B's opinion of him changes and while she doesn't love him or anything, has to make the decision to marry him or not. She wants to get a good deal out it, ensuring the safety of people. The question is if Mr.Dowling would accept her offer.
There was not a lot action in this book until the very end and it will most likely be continued in the next book.
This is a tough book to review... It revealed some of the secrets and of the mystery of the babies, and Mr. Dowling, but B keeps getting hinted that Dr. Oystein isn't what he claims to be and yet, the retard main character keeps thinking the same thing "Mr. Dowling BAD, Dr. Oystein GOOD", and doesn't even consider checking things out. And that's the same way the book ended. One of the poor points of the book, is the fact that B could end everything if she just kills the clown herself, or she could kill Rage also, she could have him killed easily, but this doesn't even go through her mind even though she promised she would kill him as soon as she got the chance. This book, was just... weird, not really bad weird or anything, just plain weird. Can't wait for the ending of the books, i'm really curious about the entire mystery, makes my head go crazy with the possibilities, and that's what i like in a book, the unpredictability of it.
This is one of my favorite books in the series, just by having the development of the mutant babies as well as more of an in site of Mr. Dowling. Seriously I never thought I would feel for his struggles - who knew?! And the babies... OMG, I love them! Is there something wrong/twisted in me for being attached to them...
I love B's crown, rock it girl! Aww B is a romantic at heart - who knew? Mr. Dowling asks to marry B... I didn't see that coming!
Why am I emotionally attached to some of the crazy murderous mutants and Owl man - I need a head doctor. WHY DO THE BAD GUYS MAKE EXCELLENT POINTS ABOUT THE WORLD!!!! I think its just the cynical part of myself rising up, that nods along in agreement.
I liked that this book was less action-packed, it was a refreshing change of speed, and a more emotional journey instead with some history sprinkled in there.
