Dive into Elphyne, protect the gully, and fall in love.
As a lethal Reaper, Sid kills monstrous fae. He’s spent his life blocking the little voice in his head saying his loyalties are misplaced. But humans can't be wrong. It’s the fae who hoard the earth’s bounty and banish humanity to live behind cold gray walls. But when a lone, captivating pixie dares to face his soldiers pillaging her forest, he knows his priorities are about to shift.
On the eve of her coronation, Princess Nyra feels less than worthy when her wings refuse to make pixie dust. Without it, she can’t choose a consort, let alone receive the power required to keep her gully safe. When she stumbles across humans illegally mining her precious forest, she wants to prove she’s still worthy of protecting her people... with or without a consort.
But her sabotage backfires, and her handsome enemy unexpectedly saves her life. Suddenly shrunk to bug size and without magic, they’re forced to trust each other to survive the perilous journey home. With each step, their forbidden attraction grows. But when one is lying and a promise is broken, the gully won’t be the only thing in danger of becoming a wasteland. Nyra’s heart will never flourish again.
This novella was originally published in the BABE anthology.

Lana lives in Perth, Western Australia and loves writing Paranormal/ Fantasy and Sci-fi Romance. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her creating art and designing book covers. She also fights evil by moonlight, wins love by daylight and never runs from a real fight.
Nyra has a lot of pressure of her shoulders because she is the one who basically needs to save her people but in order to do that she needs to choose a harem except no one does it for here except this human who is participating in stealing resources from her land. Little does she know that this human is her fated mate. Sid is back. I actually liked that he finally saw how much Elphyne had to offer and that he could be on the right side of the war. I still haven't forgotten what he did to Silver way back when but i liked what he did to become worthy of his little pixie Nyra. It was a full circle moment. It was a different story from the others in the series but it still fits the overall story of the series.
I was able to ARC this when originally titled “Of Ferns and Gullies” as a Fae Guardian novella.
Of Pixies and Promises was a really good read! I really enjoyed having the dynamic between Sid, a human from Crystal City, and Nyra, the new Pixie Queen. Sid used to work with Silver before she crossed into Elphyne and mated to Shade. Nyra is expected to be mated in a harem as every previous queen, yet she doesn’t want to and would prefer to be with one mate.
This is an enemies to lovers situation. They both feel a connection with one another and their desire is present from the beginning. They are drawn to one another and it isn’t until Sid goes into the ceremonial lake that it really kicks in. I loved seeing a human guardian!! Their mating is spicy and sweet. I hope to see these characters again in an upcoming FG book!

Nyra is a pixie princess who is the prospective queen. She has a lot of pressure on her shoulders because it’s her responsibility to save the forest and her people, but in order to do that she needs to find a harem of mates. She’s tried in the past, but nobody interests except for this human Reaper from Crystal City who’s stealing resources from the land. This human also happens to be her fated mate.
Sid returns. He was one of the Reapers who was a friend and an ex-lover of Silver in A Symphony of Savage Hearts. Sid meets Nyra and saves her from getting attacked by other members of his team. The more time he spends with Nyra they grow closer, and he strikes a bargain to protect her, but Sid’s feelings her for her grow deeper than the bargain. I liked that meeting Nyra helped change his perspective on Elphyne and the fae. He was already changing his mind about the fae, but meeting Nyra helped reaffirm his shifting opinions. He realized he could be on the good side of the war.
The romance between Nyra and Sid was sweet. He’s kind and gentle towards her and does everything he can to protect her from danger. Once the bargain ends, Sid realizes he doesn’t want to leave her. He’s developed feelings for her. He sees a future with her, but he doesn’t know how they can stay together. I didn’t know how they would overcome this obstacle. I didn’t see the solution coming because it’s never happened before, but I’m glad it worked. I also liked that Sid cleared the air with Silver and that he proved himself worthy of Nyra.
This was a cute novella and a nice complement to the series. I hardly ever read novellas because they always leave me wanting more, but I actually really liked this one. There is potential for peace between the races and the capacity for forgiveness is there. I accidentally read this out of order since apparently this novella was released after the Season of the Elf trilogy, which I haven't read yet. I noticed it while reading because there was mention of a character that was already mated, and I haven't read that book yet. That's okay. I’m still having a great time with this series.
This is probably one of my absolute favorite retellings of all time. Fern Gully was one of my favorite movies as a kid, so reading this retelling of that story was just amazing!
I love that get get to see Sid’s story told and I love Anura for him. This story gives us even more insight as to the thought processes of the humans in Crystal City & if there is ever a chance that there can be amends made between the humans and the Fae.
This book is the movie Fern Gully as a romantasy book. I ate this up, and it’s a quick read so that was nice.
However, the instant love between the two main characters and the quickness with which everything, from relationships to plot lines, happened so quickly with almost no lead up felt quite shocking throughout. I wish there was a way to keep this book at its current length, as it felt appropriate to the storyline, but include more lead up and explanation of the more important things.
Overall, enjoyable read that took me right back to the 1992 movie, but keep in mind that it needs some proofing/editing and is a novella with very little world building and context for important pieces.
My little 90's girl heart ADORED this story!!!! Fern Gully but make it spicy!? Yes please. I giggled at all the little nods to fern gully and as we speak I'm watching the movie. Nyra and Sid's story is so beautiful and I'd love to read more of them. I hope they pop in later in the series. Honestly I'd love another novella or even a full story of her finding other harem members.
My bar for novellas is pretty low I think but this is exactly what I want out of one!! And it’s in one of my favorite fictional worlds! Reeeeeally makes me want to reread the vampire books in this series🦇😛
Wonderful addition to the guardian series. So happy Sid was redeemed and was able to find him a new home and love. Becoming a guardian was so special. Love this book. Great job LP. Now we need the next book for Willow and the Six🤗
Great edition to the Fae Guardians universe… love the potential it shows for unity amongst all races of earth and the capacity for change and forgiveness…
I love this short story I think it’s perfect to add to my collection and I like the Ferngully reference where it’s cute and romantic and everything I wanted.
This was a cute romance. Super short. Not a lot of depth.
Nyra is a faerie princess and Sid is a reaper. The two of them should hate each other but they are inexplicable drawn to each other instead.
I liked the characters. There wasn’t a ton of time to really see how these characters fell in love though. This story was far too short to actually build an emotional connection.
I liked it for what it was. It would have been good as a longer story but I’m glad I read it.
