Exactly the kind of book to get a kid excited back in 2003. This is the first Bionicle guidebook and definitely the weakest of the ones that would be released, but it does serve as a way to collect the information that was available on the website and preserve it. The section describing treespeak as a secret code was funny, and I’m not sure how Greg kept a straight face typing that since I know he hates treespeak. I have two main gripes: this book definitely had room for more Matoran than were just in the sets (also only showing McToran and none of the rebuilt ones released as sets that year. Sayonara, Kopeke) and the clues about the Seventh Toa are just whittling down the places where he is from the places where he isn’t. Regardless, while it is no Star Wars visual dictionary, it is a good start.
As a kid I loved Legos and Pokemon but with Legos you could exchange a chin for a fist making it the coolest thing ever and I found the books very fun to read. This book made all the characters in the other books cooler and more memorable. I also loved this book to pieces, no really I hold the whole thing together with tape! If you find this book I insist that you read it.
An astounding read from cover to cover. You hold the book in your hand and expect next to nothing, but this here volume is so meticulously crafted, so cleverly written, that it transcends its original state and purpose and becomes something truly magnanimous. You NEED to read this. You read right. You NEED to read this. Buy it now.
