Another sweet offering from Ellis, I am really enjoying this series set on the Isles of Scilly. The more I read about the charming Treneary family, the more I grow to love them. I am already looking forward to returning for book four next year!

This time it is the turn of Trystan who features in this romantic, summery story. Taking place just a few days after the last book concluded, I think you could easily read this on its own because Ellis focuses on the key romantic interest, with characters from the other stories merely orbiting the plot. Personally, I am glad I have read the others because I like getting the sense of the developing relationships, but this is just me.

Undoubtedly, the characters of Trystan, Beth and Ellie are all very likeable and I warmed to them immediately. Trystan’s family can’t get enough of young Ellie and I loved how they took the mother and daughter under their wings, from offering childcare for Beth to absorbing them into the Treneary family. It certainly felt very relaxed and idyllic and this is exactly how Beth feels – hence her extending her original week’s stay to the whole of the summer holidays.

As Beth and Trystan’s relationship grows closer, so does the inevitable return home. Both characters do not want to consider where their relationship will go after this point. Trystan lives in London; Beth and Ellie live in Plymouth where Ellie attends school and Beth is near her father in his retirement home. It is clear that they both have their roots but they cannot deny the pull that the Isles of Scilly creates. I found it interesting to see how the new couple overcome this challenge and also that Ellis does not really throw a crisis into their relationship. Unlike many romance reads, Beth and Trystan don’t fall out over an issue; there is no separating, massive conflict, they just gradually move to a new level with their relationship instead. This felt quite refreshing and I enjoyed there not being an obvious difficulty in the story.

I have enjoyed this series because it is sweet and relaxing – the setting particularly helps! It is an easy-going read and I love how warm and welcoming Trystan’s family are to whoever graces their doorstep. There’s always a happy ending with these books and for me, this provided just the right sort of escapism I was looking for.

With thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, it was so nice to go back to the Isles of Scilly for the 3rd book in the series. The previous books have focused on one of the Island families, this time it is the turn of Trystan. He lives and works in London but does come back to the Isles when he can. This time when he returns he can't stay in his usual cottage.

In the cottage are Beth and her daughter Ellie. They had been on holiday for a week and the weather had been awful, quite typical for my neck of the woods. They are convinced that they should stay on for a few days more as the weather has now brightened up. The cottage belongs to Trystan and his mum rents it out for him, so he is just going to have to stay with her for a few days.

This is another gorgeous story from this author. Each time I come to this series I am hooked. The close family on the island is great to come back to and the banter they have with each other is great. Trystan has recently split from his partner of 10 years. Beth doesn't have an obvious partner, but she does have a daughter.

Bringing two people together is a nice idea, but there are other circumstances that also need to be considered especially when there is a child involved, I have to say I liked how the author approached this and how there were some awkward situations. Nothing, however, should be taken for granted, as Beth is a single Mum she is very protective of her daughter and after all, they are only on holiday!

This is a wonderful and tentative story that works its way along at its own pace, not too rushed and at times with some amusing outcomes. It was a chance to learn more about the family and especially Trystan and I am delighted to see who the author has her sights set on for the next story!!!

This is one for those who like a holiday romance, contemporary fiction, family and friendships and a really wonderful heartwarming story. I would definitely recommend this one, and also the previous ones int he series.

Book 3 of (hopefully) 6?

Hannah's characters are so well written that I feel like they are my friends/family. I haven't disliked anything she has written, and every series is better try than the last. I will say this - there had better be books about both Jago and Mirren! I cannot wait to get to know Lowen.

I recently took a holiday to Las Vegas and spent the day reading this amazing book. It made me want to be there and now I've added it to my bucket list of holiday destinations.

Hannah is an amazing author, I read her first book and she's had me hooked ever since, I've read all of the series that she's written and can thoroughly recommend everyone try at least one of her books.

This series has so many fantastic characters and reading them all intertwine is brilliant, and it makes you feel part of the family.

Enjoy the series, and I can't wait for Hannah to write the next one.......

A lovely book - slightly predictable in general, of course - but still delightful to read. I love the background of the Isles of Scilly too, it’s so beautiful. The little girl in the book seemed a little demanding at times and it grated a bit? I know that’s how kids are of course, but that took it down a star for me. Still highly recommended and will be reading the next one in the series very soon.

A holiday which doesn’t go as expected.
Spending the holiday at the Isle of Scilly didn’t turn out to go as expected for single – mother Beth. The original plan was to go with her own mother and her five – year – old daughter Ellie. But now Beth and Ellie are staying in their holiday cottage, with Beth still grieving over the loss of her mother.
When their week there turns out to be the most rainy one, she finds herself being persuaded by the Treneary family to prolong their stay, even if cottage owner Trystan Treneary isn’t aware of these changes as he planned to stay in the cottage after Beth and Ellie left.
Sparks start to fly around between Beth and Trystan, but with Beth living in Plymouth and Trystan in London, this could never be more than a holiday fling… especially as Trystan is not ready for a family…
I will start by just saying how much I just ADORE the Treneary family! This is my third return to them and the Isle of Scilly, and each time I fall deeper in love with the place and the family!
In the start of this book, Beth’s family situation isn’t 100% clear. We know she is on her own looking after Ellie and we know Beth recently just lost her mother. So I can imagine how difficult things are at the moment for her.
Yet the more was revealed of Beth’s life, the more I admired her choices and courage. Having a child is already not an easy task, so I was in awe when Beth talks about the choice she made.
Ellie is just adorable! She is curious, eager, a bit stubborn, so lovable and I just wanted jump into the book to go on the train with her, build sandcastles and play with her!
I absolutely had a blast reading how Trystan finds himself overwhelmed not only by Beth but also by Ellie. For those who have read the previous parts of the series, we know from before the start that Trystan isn’t ready for a family, so it came also as a complete surprise seeing how easily Ellie manages to steal his heart. Ellie is for sure a force of nature to reckon with!
It saddened me terrible discovering the reason why Trystan and his brother Lowen aren’t getting along. So I have all my fingers and toes and all other body parts that are crossable, crossed, that in the next book, these once close brothers will find each other again!
And while between Beth and Trystan it starts with a physical attraction, it warmed my heart to see how at ease they are with each other, able to completely open up. Both main characters have their problems, and even if nobody can offer a real solution, with Beth and Trystan just listening to each other, and having some hurt in common, shows that just being there can be the perfect medicine.
Obviously, as their lives are taking place in different cities, and Scilly is just a holiday place, the getting together was the easiest bit…
And I liked how the author was able to capture the doubts Beth was having. Because Beth doesn’t has to look only at herself, but she wants to protect Ellie too. Even if I didn’t like it at all when she was back in Plymouth and acted the way she did.
But on the other hand, I liked it how Trystan gave her the space she needed, yet also did some real nice things for Ellie (talking about swoon – worthy material!).
This was a wonderful next chapter in of a marvellous series. You don’t have to have read the previous parts, but I truly recommend it as I am sure you will fall in love with the place and its inhabitants!
And while it would be easy for an author to fall in the trap of writing the same thing all over again but with slight differences, Hannah Ellis wrote a story totally different from the previous ones, showing that love doesn’t always come easy, but it’s absolutely worth it. And that with the right perfect, you can long for something you never wanted before.

Beth comes to the Isles of Scilly with her five-year-old daughter, Ellie, for a summer holiday. While she is grappling with her recent loss, the family from whom she has rented the summer cottage gives her enough love and warmth that she decides to extend her holiday. She imagines it to be a casual break until she meets Trystan. Recently estranged from his girlfriend, Trystan is not only warm-hearted but very friendly with little Ellie. Cupid strikes and both Beth and Trystan have a nice time on the island. But with her ailing father back in Plymouth and Ellie’s school due to start soon, Beth ends up feeling guilty about putting her desires ahead of her responsibilities.

The book is about Beth, how she is constantly handling her child, her father, and her recent loss, and is wondering what to do about her work. And when she meets Trystan and becomes seriously involved, she feels overwhelmed by everything- her responsibilities and desires. On the other hand, Trystan has just broken up with his girlfriend of 10 years because she wanted a family whereas he wasn’t ready. But the moment he meets Beth, he seems to be perfectly at ease with her and Ellie. He, too, faces a tug-of-war between his feelings and ultimately the book presents the natural course their lives take.

The Summer Escape is a beautiful story about a summer holiday that turns into a serious romance. The setting is perfect and is aptly described. The beach, the islands, and the pubs with beautiful food all make me want to pack up and leave! The narrative is fast-paced and moves smoothly. The storyline is good; it has enough breaks and complications thrown in to make the story as realistic as possible.

The characters are the highlight of the story. They are all so welcoming and warm but they each come with their own complications. This is the third book in the series and I haven’t read any of the previous ones. The other books are the love stories of the other couples in this book. Isn’t that great?

I had fun reading the book, so much so that I want to read the others in the series too. It is a fun, quick read and is perfect for the weekend or as a travel companion. I would definitely recommend it to romance lovers.

HANNAH ELLIS: The SUMMER ESCAPE.

MY REVIEW- This is book 3 in Hannah Ellis’ Isles Of Scilly series. It can easily be read as a stand alone story, but I’d always suggest reading a series in order so as to get the most out of each book.

Beth and her five year old daughter Ellie, have had a soggy old time on their holiday. As they are due to leave for home, the weather perks up.
When offered the opportunity to extend their holiday for a few more days, Beth and Ellie jump at the chance to do so.

Trystan, is on his way home to the island. Finding that his mother has rented out his cottage to Beth, he is forced to stay in his family home.

As Trystan and Beth get to know eachother, there is a clear spark between them.
Beth lives in Plymouth and Trystan is based in London.
Will what they have be just a summer romance? Or can they find a way to make their blossoming relationship work?

This is another feel good story from Hannah Ellis. I’ve loved this series so far, and I’m looking forward to book four being released in January 2023.

I warmed easily to the characters in this book and the sense of community is delightful.

This isn’t a complicated story. It’s light and fresh, which sometimes, is just what I want to read.

The Summer Escape is a gorgeous read. It has a fantastic sense of community, a heartwarming romance and is just overflowing with glorious sunshine.

A five star, warm the cockles of your heart read.

My Opinion

I have read all of the books in this series so far and they have all been lovely. It is difficult to write a review for this book without giving away any spoilers - but trust me, it is an enjoyable read. I flew through this book, as it was just so well-written and I was hooked from the beginning. For lovers of a holiday romance this is a great book with a pace that doesn't feel rushed.

This sweet romance might be my favourite in the series so far. It has the tight-knit Treneary family we know and love, the gorgeous Isles of Scilly once again giving me travel envy, and a precocious plot moppet named Ellie. Ellie's relationship with Trystan's mum is adorable.

Tissue warning: there is discussion around dementia and the sudden death of a parent. The book starts light but it's not afraid to delve into the emotional stuff and I'm not ashamed to admit I got choked up when Beth and Trystan really got talking. It's leavened with humour, but it's heavy subject matter that can hit quite close to home. I liked that it was realistic and not perfectly clear-cut or cured by the end of the book - though Trystan has some family loose ends that I hope get tied up soon!

I liked both Beth and Trystan - two normal people carrying their own share of hurts, not looking for love but finding it anyway - and making it work through sensible communication and a gentle dose of matchmaking. They're that realistic type of couple who make you believe love is possible.

Ellie sort of features as the cheerful and adorable conduit. You can't help but love her charm, innocence and the way she has no filter, and no trouble letting people in. It makes it easier for those around her, like her mother, to connect with others when their gut instinct is to hesitate and block everyone. An otherwise lost opportunity becomes a possibility instead.

In essence that is the way Beth and Trystan meet, and slowly but surely something grows between them. But it's a summer holiday, a friendship forged within beautiful surroundings, and a family willing to take both Beth and Ellie in and treat them like part of the family too. That's one choice and the other is home, friends and family that are waiting for them to return.

It's a lovely cosy romance with plenty of moments of emotional turmoil - the type any reader could and probably has experienced. Loss, grief, and doubt. Feeling lost and yet having to be the stable anchor for someone you love, in this Beth for her child.

There was a part in the last chapter that felt a little rushed, but then I wondered whether that could possibly be a lead-in for a part in the fourth book in the series. Overall, it's a pleasant read I would recommend to other readers.

Okay this is the best book in this series so far! It’s still very light, very sweet and funny but this one seemed to have a little more substance. Single mother meets guy who wasn’t ready to settle down…until he meets her. I love it! We see some more of the same characters from the previous two books so I think it does benefit the reader to read this series in order BUT this book could stand on its own. It’s got a slightly stronger plot and I think part of that is because we are introduced to a new character, our heroine Beth, and we learn about her as she’s integrating into the dynamics of this family.
Honestly, I loved it. 🙌🏻

Another beautiful, romantic story from Hannah Ellis, set on the magical Isles of Scilly. I think Trystan and Beth’s story is actually my favourite so far, partly thanks to the adorable character of five-year-old Ellie.

Once again, Ellis covers serious topics such as grief and struggles with elderly parents in a sensitive way that doesn’t detract from the romance of the story, but only adds to the characters’ actions and feelings.

I absolutely loved this book! Love the characters and how there was enough of a balance between getting to know more about the characters we have grown to love in the first 2 books and getting to know Beth and Ellie too. I laughed, cried and everything in between. Such a fabulous book and cannot wait for The Potter’s House!

The Summer Escape

This book seemed a little slow and there were so many characters. But it caught on and began really liked the fact that the author used the part of the story where both Ellie and Beth got sick. That seemed to me that would have been the best way to make the story real!
