2nd read:
Re-read through audible. I have another narrator to add to my list of favorites! 5 stars for Avie Paige’s narration of Calen’s Captive.

1st read:
OK, can I be Calen's Captive? If I could jump into the pages of this story, I would gladly take Maia's place. Lucy Leroux's Alpha's are delicious! She writes the perfect balance of dominant, possessive, charming men who know how to take care of their woman.

Calen, being the son of an Irish mob boss is just bad enough, but keeps himself out of the family business to stay legal. The one time he has to step in and help his father, he is in time to rescue Maia from the Russian mob. It just so happens that he was already looking for his woodland fairy after briefly seeing her in his night club and lost her before he could approach. The only way to protect Maia is to marry her and fill her up with babies as soon as possible.

I loved it and let me tell you, there were a few role playing scenes that were smokin hot!!! I'm very curious about Maia's friend Thalia since there were hints in the story that makes me think she will get her own story and hints of another couple as well.

That was not what I was expecting. Firstly, the hero is not a bad guy and the heroine is a really sweet girl. With a name like Colens captive I was expecting a little bit more overtones of BDSM, but it had very little. It was a sweet "fairy" type story instead. I loved every crazy minute of it. Somehow, the fact that they didn't sleep together right away and he had actual conversations with the heroine, made the story much more believable for me at least. She also doesn't get pregnant right away that made it more realistic. This story was hot but sweet (not like and artificial sweetener more like honey sweet). Let me explain, they have an adult relationship, which is for the most part on equal footing, they make decision together mostly, they have an active role playing sex life but thankfully that's not all they are about. I just thought they are more of a couple then most books I have read lately.
5 fairy sweet stars for me.

I liked this contemporary romance, if you like innocent, sweet heroines paired with a possessive hero then you might like this. My only real issue was that the heroine was said to look like a fairy way too much. I was starting to picture her with wings :)

This is book two in the "A Singular Obsession series by Lucy Leroux.
I must say as soon as I got through book one 'Making Her His' I was hunting down the series.
This was a new author for me (but now one of my favorites) and I find that her writing is what some fantasy are about. They are the strong male types that only want to protect, take care of you while spoiling you and not to mention jealous of anyone that looks at you. Also they are some really hot love scene.
Calen is our hero, he owns night clubs and his father is a Irish mobster. Calen tires to stay away from any think to do with his fathers business. But one day his father talks him into meet some men about a deal that he wants to go through and everyone who can make the deal is unable too. Calen gives in and goes to meet the men but he finds that they are hold a women hostage. Calen knows that it won't end well for her so he talks them in to given him the women and will the deal agreement.
Maia is our heroine and the lady that is being held against her will. Maia was just out trying to get samples in an area where she see some men who seem to be doing something bad. So they think she has seen to much and take her. Calen is brought to Maia where he fully see her and knows it is the women he has been looking for for several weeks. It seems Maia had been in his club and Calen caught site of her and instantly fell into attraction if not love. So Calen plans on keep her and never letting her go.

I remember (vaguely) reading book two about Alex and having some issues with his past when it came to his OW stuff. I’m happy to say that Calen doesn’t have that problem. When he catches just a glimpse of his h, that instant pull he feels for her becomes his obsession, and he is all about her. He doesn’t look, think or even acknowledge anyone else. I love an H who has tunnel vision when it comes to his woman and Calen was definitely suffering from it.

If you want an easy read with no angst, low drama and steamy kink Calen’s Captive is a good pick. Calen is definitely an OTT protective caveman when it comes to protecting and loving Maia. Although Mia herself wasn’t a very memorable h, she was definitely a perfect match for Calen. (Not anyone would be as willing or open minded about Calen’s particular fetishes like she was!) Ms. Leroux definitely knows how to write panty melting bedroom scenes! Overall this was a pleasant and quick read. Although at times I did catch myself questioning Maia’s easy acceptance of all Calen’s demands, and the time jumps slowed the pace down a bit, ultimately I was kept entertained till the end.

This is a read where you have to suspend disbelief - Calen's obsession with fairies through me for a loop - and the villian/mobster business was handled unexpectedly.

Hoo boy. Reading out of order in the series this was not as worthy as our Ruskie or Italian hero.

Calen, reluctant son of the Irish mob, takes a meeting with some Russian bad guys and rescues his dream girl, an elfish little creature.

Calen protects his little fairy from himself and the bad guys. There is some creepiness in that he's sold on the relationship, but even after they consummate it she's still uncertain about her feelings. Unworthy or uncertain, I don't know but it sabotaged the romance. Part of the problem is that the bad guy minions were a fluid bunch, and I never got a handle on them.

QUESTION: One of the secondary characters, Tahlia a lab friend for the heroine, is set up as a potential bad guy and disappears at the end of the book. Does anyone know what the deal is with her character?

I never expected that I’ll be DNFing this author’s book! I absolutely adore her books. And I had way too HIGH expectation for this book.
But reading a romance where hero is getting a blowjob under the table from OW in the first page itself was 🤮. And then knowing he selected the said woman because of her resemblance to his friend’s wife, out of the world puke worthy.
So FINALLY I STOPPED.
Still in someways I’m grateful that I didn’t read this book after the first one or I would’ve added this author to my avoid list. May be I’ll finish this someday, who knows.

“I want you to consider making our fake relationship a real one. I think we should get married.”

"Calen's Captive" is the second full book in the Singular Obsession series, and I have to say, this entire series so far has been a hit for me (I've read two books and two novellas). The Title "Calen's Captive" makes this sound like it's going to be a dark romance but it really wasn't. Calen was a caring, sweet, protective man. Is he an alpha? For sure. He wasn't holding Maia hostage though. Everything was due to the unfortunate circumstances of their face to face meeting.

"Curious, she leaned over to examine the face of his watch before breaking out into a grin. Calen had set an alarm to kiss her goodbye. She went to work hugging that detail to herself."

I have honestly never read of anyone having a bit of a fairy fetish but I loved it with Calen. I also loved the bit of a kinky fairy role play that he and Maia liked to play together. I thought it was pretty steamy. These two were made for each other.

The danger to Maia in the background was interesting and a good way to pace the book and move it along. Another great read from Lucy Leroux. I can't wait to check out Sergei's story next. For other excerpts from this book check out my highlights.

4 STARS.

Awesome book, love the series.

Side note- I just finished book 4 of the series and I'm coming back here because I remember Peyton and Liam being mentioned here, I talked to the author and she said their book will probably be out by next year, so I can't wait, hopefully that book's H does not have a repeat of Alex and is celibate after he has feelings for the h, I have a feeling it's unlikely but please, I need the celibate hero!

Audiobook: Narrator - Avie Paige

This is one of my favorite books by this author so I was especially excited to get to listen to it as a “re-read”. Ms. Paige does a great job of the hero and heroine and I found the entirety of the audio to be a very nice experience.

When Calen first caught sight of Maia he wanted her. But she disappeared and he’s been obsessed with her since. When he finds her again, there is danger everywhere. With some quick wit and smooth negotiations he has his little fairy safely ensconced in his home.

I loved how over the top, protective, possessive and jealous Calen was from the very first sighting of Maia. His total care of her was great and the way he slowly moved her into a position of being able to completely claim her was entertaining as well as pretty steamy.

Maia is intelligent and has goals she intends to reach. She is also pretty innocent but Calen brings out a part of her she didn’t even know she had. I actually enjoyed watching her grow into a more confident person.

This is a relatively fast read with a bit of drama and danger as well as a truckload of hot steamy smexy times that will literally melt your kindle and singe your fingerprints.

Original Review 4/8/16:

This is a great read if you're in the mood for alpha heroes made Lucy Leroux style. They are always protective, always possessive and always one hundred percent in once they find their woman. Calen is no different. He's longed for someone but never thought he'd find the right woman until he rescues Maia. Maia is a sweet heroine who captures Calen's heart in return for his rescue.

Low angst, high steam, dual pov. Perfect.

I liked this second in the series. The guy just knew what he wanted and went after it. It's fun occasionally to read about OTT alpha heroes. The heroine was sweet and sort of naïve. The plot was interesting and held together a couple of different mob organizations clashing and the main couple, who were not mobsters, just trying to get through it. Well written and without editing problems.

This is the first time I read a book by Lucy Leroux and it won't be my last! I'm really happy that I didn't pay attention to the cover, which I really hated because Calen and Maia's story was really enjoyable. The start was a little rough for my taste but the rest of the book was quite good!

2.5. Too much meek young-looking submissive virgin with the masterful rich overprotective alpha. I usually enjoy those plots somewhat. But there just wasn't anything else here. And there was a creepy amount of the H enjoying the youthful appearance and attitude of the h.

5 Glorious Stars!

This series was a pleasant surprise. When reading self publish works you never know what you'll gonna get, most likely you'll be disappointed but sometimes you'll stumble upon a gem of a book, like this one.

It is an exquisite story with an engaging central couple and a steamy romance that is based around one of my favorite tropes - a strong, smart and kind heroine meets driven, assertive, and in control of the world alpha.

This book is just perfect. It hits the right notes and pushes the right buttons. It is well written, the characters are endearing, it is well-paced and there is never a dull moment in the book. Calen and Maia are one of my favorite book couple EVER. And that is saying something since being a voracious reader I have read thousands.

Lucy Leroux is defintely become one of my favorite series writers.

I strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance novels.

I really liked this one. Similar to the first book the heroine, Maia, is a student at Harvard studying insects (if you remember that the first book the heroine studied mushrooms) like butterflies and moths. The part that really made me smile was the fact that Calen had this thing for fairies and even though all the women he had sex with and was photographed with were all leggy, big-bosomed models Maia resembles a little fairy or elf because she is so small. I really like the explanation that Calen's father gives her...I did the 'aha' moment then. Because before then I scratched my head wondering how in the heck did an alpha male have an obsession for fairies.

The one thing I didn't really care for was that for both of them it took them until almost the end of the book before they said 'I love you' to each other, though it was cute that he said it first.

Really good book and I really enjoy Lucy Leroux's writing style.

Calen and some chick who looks like a fairy. Not as memorable as the first book in the series. In fact, I almost forgot to finish it! Calen was a good character. Sworn to live an honest life (if running night clubs and sleeping around is honest) and not fall into the quagmire of his father's Irish house of crime. But he gets talked into doing one favour for his dear old dad, and ends up rescuing said elfish waif in the process. The rest of the book is very predictable and my mind got kinda numb reading it. The heroine is forgettable and the bad guy is too. But I will still read the next book, because I liked the first book so much.

Oh my!

Please refer to the review of Naksed:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Here is a part from the review I shared above:

He has a sexual fetish for elf like women, petite, skinny, big eyes, pale skin, no curves, and of course virginal and innocent. Maia, our heroine, is there to scratch that itch. Also, his other fetish is to pretend he is ravishing said fairy against her will, and taking her virginity again, and again. I had heard of rape fantasy but never fairy rape fantasy.

Again, oh my! WTF?!!

I really love this book! No cheating and no big complicated childish drama between these two. No breakup! I like that the girl is not complicated even tho she’s been through a lot, they fall in love fast which is good in my opinion. Happy ending.... the guy is very possessive but in a sweet way, and the girl is so crazy smart like very smart. The girl also a VIRGIN AND NEVER HAVE KISSED BEFORE SO I LOVE THAT TOO! Hahahahahaha. If you want a jealous alpha possessive male and the good smart brain virgin girl and happy ending and not too dramatic childish story this one is for youuu......

SO DAYYUUUM GOOD!!!

There aren’t enough words to describe how much I freakin loved this book! It was wonderful from start to finish—a modern take on a fairytale theme. A hard dominant alpha hero rescues a fairy damsel and claims her for himself. There’s some bumps along the way, but he’s going to do his best to get his fairy to fall in love with him.

Mannnnn, I wish I could clone plots like this! We need more like them! It had all the feelz, intense emotional connection reinforced by a possessive hero.

Calen's Captive by Lucy Leroux is a dark erotic romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Avie Paige. This is the second book in the Singular Obsession series and can be read as a standalone.

The book does come with a caution "Though it flirts with some bondage, Calen’s Captive is not a BDSM title. Not suitable for readers under 18."

This is the first book of Lucy's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Calen and Maia. Their relationship started off a bit messed up but you couldn't help but root for them.

Avie did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romance, erotic romances, or romantic suspense.

Something for me was just enough off about this story - that I found it pretty much average - and even some things I really didn't care for.

Maia's character was likeable however, I just felt she had no backbone - yes, she was in a dangerous situation - but it seemed like she caved to Calen's wants and wishes without so much as a bit of frustration much less a fight - I found this a bit unbelievable for someone who had been alone so much in her life.

It seems that their relationship never seemed like LOVE to me - more like a rich guy who had an obsession and a woman who seemed to embody that obsession (ha! just dawned on me the name of the series "A Singular Obsession" - so there's that)

Again, was just an average read for me - absolutely, nothing to rave about IMO.

I first read Calen's Captive (and other titles in this series too) a few years ago but I remembered it being a pretty good read. My opinion hasn't changed a bit. I liked Calen's obsession with his fairy, he had the cutest albeit still caveman-alpha attitude. There was no other woman for him as soon as he first set his eyes on Maia. She was innocent in every aspect of the word. I liked how Maia fit in Calen's family in spite of their antagonistic behaviour.

Avie Paige's narration was pretty good. She had good voices. The quality could have been a tad better but it still was entertaining.

This is the second book in the Singular Obsession series. Calen is the son of an Irish mobster in Boston, he does not participate in his Father's "business", he has several legit Nightclubs that he owns. He has a fascination with Fairies & has an extensive collection of Fairy themed books. One night while at his nightclub he sees a beautiful woman who looks exactly like the fairy in his favorite book but he looses her in the crowd. Several weeks go by & he has kept an eye out for her but she has not returned to his club. His Father asks him to go to a meeting with the Russians that owe him money & he reluctantly agrees to it. Maia is a shy bookworm who is a graduate student at Harvard, she is studying butterflies & moths. She is in the woods collecting samples when she spots a rare butterfly & tries to snap a picture of it. While chasing after it she sees two very large men dumping a large wrapped bundle into the river. She tries to run away from them but they catch her & overpower her & bring her to a warehouse. Calen goes to the meeting at the warehouse & is shocked to see his "fairy" bound & gagged by the Russians. He tells them he not only wants the money they owe his Father but also the girl, they reluctantly agree even though one of them is mad & has vowed to steal her back. This was such a good book, I really liked Calen & all his hot, Alpha friends. I'm really hoping Gio gets his own story next.

3.5 stars. A quick and hot reading.

The only thing bothered me was that I was not sure Maia would fall in love with Calen if they met under normal circumstance since Maia was only a poor Harvard graduate student and Calen was a rich bar owner that he always had different arm candies whenever the medias took his photos. If Maia didn't need Calen's protection, would she accept his proposal? And the way Calen spoiled her with new car, new wardrobe, jewelry, and paid her student loans and her mother's medical debts right after she moved in with him, how could Maia leave him?

All in all, I would like to read Lucy Leroux's next story.
