This two part story had three compelling main characters, all from traumatic childhoods, that managed to end up with a special male adult in their lives that helped them become the strong loving men they are now. Evander and Logan had been friends from the age of fifteen, when Evander and his dad changed Logan’s life when he was brought into the family. Evander’s dad, Erik, had a life changing encounter with Lake over twenty years ago, which woke him up and made him the father Evander needed. Lake was saved from his birth father by Erik when he was 8 and delivered to his mother, who then met and married Luke, giving Lake and his brother River the father they deserved. All these threads came together when Evander wanted to check up on Lake for Erik, to see how his life had gone over the years. When Ev and Lake meet, there are strange feelings and a pull to know more. At the same time, Logan’s feelings begin to change for Ev, not necessarily straight anymore, and when he meets Lake, there is a pull on Logan, too. The three begin a tentative throuple relationship, looking to see where it will lead.
Lake is an Omega like his twin brother River ( his story in book 1). This is important because Omegas were thought to have died out long ago. Suddenly, there is a confirmed male Omega and he is pregnant, Lake’s brother River. Since Lake is also an Omega, he volunteers to be a surrogate for some friends. When Logan and Ev get together with Lake, they find out Logan has the Alpha gene, which leads to a whole new dynamic as the three try to make their relationship work while navigating pregnancy, their jobs, and a cold case.
Once the background is set up and the relationship between the three is fairly solid, more threads come together with a cold missing person’s case of Logan’s, a mission of Lake’s for the CIA, and a mystery to solve that will effect these three men in a profound way. As Lake is carrying a child for friends, he is sent on a mission for weeks, a missing child may have surfaced, Logan does investigating on his own, and Evander is the glue holding all these threads together. The plot has twists and turns, surprises, danger, steamy encounters, families and found families, and a lasting love between three men whose lives are changed forever by chance encounters spanning decades.
Trying to get across a cohesive description of the story is not easy, as evidenced by the confusing things noted above. But, the story will draw you in, grab you and not let you go until the final page. There’s laughter and tears, hope and despair, the fragility of life, the promise of love and that moment in time that changes everything. I have already purchased book 1 and look forward to Luke’s story coming out with its own complication. If you decide to read this two-part book, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
