Adventist homes can be a little bit of heaven on earth, if certain basic principles are followed. Like a chart to a sailor, this volume offers a reliable guide to those sailing on the challenging sea of matrimony. Counsel is offered on many facets of home choosing a mate, child discipline, grandparents, holidays, hospitality, moral standards, divorce, and living with an unbelieving spouse. The author points out pitfalls to be avoided and shows how to have a happy marriage by injecting the grace of God and the priciples of Christian courtesy into every aspect of family life.Book SpecsHard Back Review & Herald Publishing Association 1980 583

In brief, Ellen Gould Harmon White was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church.
How a Family funtions in Harmony & in Love wish I'd known about this book in my earlier years; It would have saved my alot of grief..As well as my wife & Children too..I'd give it 10 stars a couple asterisks & several pluses also:)
The home should be a place where to find rest, and not a merely home but an Adventist Home, now guess what, home have become a place to fear, therefore God saw it and gave to his loving woman(pure church) the instructions to follow....
I enjoyed this book because it provides great values for both families and single individuals. Some of the content feels outdated, but overall the book still contains timeless gems.
Perhaps the best book alive ever read on parenting and family management, and as a mother of four, I’ve read my share. This one strikes a balance though of recognizing the all kids are different, so it doesn’t prescribe a method so specific that it only works for a handful a families.
The book impressed on me the proper upbringing of children as our first duty, there are many ways to harm their development. When evil rains on every side proper child development is so demanding that it is not humanly possible and requires a close relationship with God on the part of both parents to make the most of their formative years.
after seventeen years of cherrypicked passages of this book being forced down my throat it was a pleasant relief and surprise to actually read the book for my self and discover that its much harder on the parents than the children, as it should be
It is such a beautiful book. It taught me so much about how I have to pick a good partner, how marriage should be, and how to have a family. I hope that I can read it one day with my spouse to know how our home needs to be by following the guidance of God.
"Heaven and earth are no wider apart today than when shepherds listened to the angels’ song. Angels from the courts above will attend the steps of those who come and go at God's command. The life on earth is the beginning of the life in heaven; education on earth is an initiation into the principles of heaven; the lifework here is a training for the lifework there. What we now are, in character and holy service is the sure foreshadowing of what we shall be." -AH 534.5, 535.1 What's your home like? From relationships to carry, type of music to listen, or to being useful in the home, this book has much nuggets of advice and wisdom for sustaining a home. Those who desire a family will find what they need to prepare themselves now. Dealing with finances and social affairs are some of the themes presented. Even training for service to God begins in the home. Precious truths upon reading this book has broaden my experience to my delight. Fortunate to be raised in a home of nothing less, it has influenced my own pursuit with a renewed sense of direction and depth. A home where you will long coming home everyday are just the goals I have set after reading. Because once we have it here on earth, you can expect even more from our heavenly home. And that begins when Jesus is in the home. Come over to my house! <3 "The Son of God redeemed man's failure and fall; and now, through the work of the atonement, Adam is reinstated in his first dominion." -AH 540.4
