I do enjoy a celebrity lifestyle book, and this fits the bill. This one effectively incorporates Christian values, perspectives, and scripture with contemporary wellness perspectives on physical health, fitness, nutrition, environmental health, and mental health. Even-handed and accessible without being preachy (which both wellness and Christian books can do sometimes). Shemane leads the reader through a comprehensive wellness journey a step at a time providing information and prompts for personal reflection without overwhelming the reader. She encourages you to start where you're at and take it a step at a time, setting goals to improve your quality of life. I liked that there are also journaling and goal tracking pages as an added resource. It makes the book more interactive and supportive on your wellness journey. Her personal experiences are woven into each section and she makes her life relatable despite being "rich and famous." I'm not sure if I am the target audience for this book, but I enjoyed the faith perspective interwoven throughout. 3.5 ⭐ rounded up bc its a decent book with useful content, but probably not one I'll personally use. Definitely will resonate with its intended audience.

My Review:
I have recently had a birthday that seemed to have reminded me that I am not a spring chicken any longer. So Abundantly Well, came at just the right time for me. It is now a new year and this is the time we are suppose to start thinking in a new mindset and hopefully make some changes. Better changes and bigger changes. Changes that we should implement to stick around a little longer.
In Shemane Nugent's latest book she gives us Bible based solutions to a better more healthier lifestyle. So to start this journey off right the author provides the reader with an assessment to help you figure out where you are at health wise, emotional wise and to really look at your physical activity. It discusses your lifestyle, sleep patterns , your faith and any goals you may have.
Throughout the book the author gives you the lifestyle changes that she has made throughout the years and she shows you the Bible based teaching behind a lo of it. The book is presented to you in days, 40 days to be exact. After each day she ends it with a prayer.
I'm a foodie so my most favorite part of the whole book is the recipes. They look really good and some I have tried already. Spaghetti squash with a yummy meat sauce is a family favorite! If you are looking for a good start to begin a better more healthy transformation this year, than this book is for you! It has it all!
**Disclosure**This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
In Abundantly Well, Shemane Nugent takes readers through a 40-day journey on using the Bible knowledge and applying it to our health. Each day contained a scripture verse, a short lesson, a path to move forward, and a prayer. The physical copy of the book has a pink ribbon to make the pages. She begins the book by sharing how in college she started gaining the dreaded freshmen 15. Her diet was filled with chocolate chip cookie dough, pizza, cupcakes, coke, mountain dew just to name a few. She would wrap her body in plastic wrap and put on a heavy sweatsuit and she would run several miles. She tried different diets in an admit to lose weight. She felt God instruct her to realize that her body was a temple and she should treat it better.
In the book, she touched on how she got sick from mold from her MTV crib. She explained how she was told by a toxicologist that told her to leave her home. It was poisoning her. She had four different types of molds in her bloodstream. She also shared how she suffered from the effects of a betrayal and a divorce from her ex-husband. She discussed tips and a plan on choosing healthy options for food. She encouraged readers to eat at least 80 percent of whole foods and God created foods. Another tip was eating protein with each meal. A way to cut down on overeating is to healthy salt it where you won’t like the taste to continue eating the meal. There is a special section revealing how to Swap bread and butter for cheese and crackers, chips and salsa with vegetables and hummus, and much more. She went over the best ways to stop overindulging and dealing with anxiety.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready to get their health back. I really enjoyed the lessons presented in this book and how open she was on her struggles with getting healthy. I really liked the style of this book and how it was basically broken down into a 40-day journey on changing your lifestyle. The book even enclosed recipes such as spaghetti squash, meatloaf, peanut butter protein balls, and a few others. There was a supplement section, metric conversions, sample workouts, meal planner, and journal sections. This book can assist you in your transformation to a healthier you.
My quick take/favorite things: * I liked the format of the book - short, devotion-style chapters with a story, action and prayer. * Loved the biblical aspect to this subject matter. * She gives a lot of great information, plus recipes, workouts and logging sheets in the back. * It is written in a very encouraging tone, and she emphasizes the importance of God playing a vital role in improving your health.
I think this would be good for someone who has little to no knowledge of managing their health. She offers a lot of personal anecdotes about her own health struggles, particularly when she was diagnosed with mold toxicity. I think her stories can help you think outside the box in terms of your own health issues.
Her diet of choice is keto, and she offers several keto recipes in the back of the book.
For me, this book didn’t offer anything “new” in terms of weight loss or managing your health, but it was encouraging!
I had no prior knowledge of Shemane when I started this book. Once she started mentioning her “famous husband”, I Googled to learn that she is married to Ted Nugent. Now, I still didn’t know him either, but his name was vaguely familiar to me. I understand that they are both conservative, political activists, so that may sway your desire to read this. Though, I don’t recall her speaking of politics in this book at all.
Thanks to SkyHorse Publishing and NetGalley for providing this ARC for me to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The author of this book is a celebrity with a podcast and who also is a Christian. She has had a number of health challenges over the years which she has solved. The book is a 40 day devotional. It includes scripture for each day, prayers as week as nutrition, exercise and other health advice. As a nutritionist who is also well-trained in other holistic wellness practices, I thought the advice given by Nugent was generally good. the topics jumped around, however and there was no discernible pattern to what was covered in the book and when. If the reader was not well-versed in these areas, I am not sure how useful the book would be. It would have been better to arrange by topic area. For example, week 1 could be diet, then week 2 about exercise. I received a complementary copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
This is more than just another health and wellness book -it’s daily encouragement about thriving in mind, body and spirit. Nugent shares her personal journey of overcoming toxic mold exposure and how faith played a vital role in her healing. She blends practical health advice with spiritual inspiration and offers simple yet powerful tools for living a healthier, more abundant life. What sets this book apart is its whole-person approach-acknowledging that true wellness isn’t just about what we eat or how much we exercise, but also about the state of our hearts and minds. Her insights on forgiveness, purpose, and aging gracefully as a gift were especially impactful. Highly recommend for those seeking a faith-based, practical guide to better health and a more fulfilled life.
Abundantly Well: Bible-Based Wisdom for Weight Loss, Increased Energy, and Vibrant Health by Shemane Nugent is a book by a fitness professional. I was not familiar with this author before reading this book. I think this author did a great job trying to creat a comprehensive guide for believers. However, I think it is best for younger readers. Overall, it is a good guide. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Great read and lots of great information and personal experiences. Love Shemane’s great attitude towards life. Always an inspiration and someone to emulate.
