Sweetwater Falls Mystery #6

The Lies in the Falls

Rate this book
It’s the perfect time to enjoy the winter snow.
Unfortunately, there are things brewing in Sweetwater Falls that neither coffee nor hot cocoa can solve…

It’s Founders Day in the once idyllic town, as well as the beginning of the festive holiday season.
Contrary to the beautiful scenery, being the sheriff of Sweetwater is not quite as cozy as Spenser Song imagined. Nor did she think she would meet her match with her grumpy neighbor turned confidant, Ryker Makawi. When her evening out with Ryker is interrupted by the daughter of one of the town’s most powerful families. Spenser gathers her forces and launches a hunt for the supposed missing matriarch of the Gilchrist clan. It’s a hunt that grows increasingly strange with little making sense and even less being what it seems.

When her body is uncovered in a surprising way. The list of suspects is long.
Nothing and nobody are what they appear to be and when the finger pointing starts, Spenser doesn’t know who to believe. As she peels back the layers of the Gilchrist family, the answers she uncovers are far from what she expected them to be.

It’s wintertime in Sweetwater Falls and the bodies are falling like snow.
Will Spenser, with Ryker’s aid, solve the chilling case before the blizzard of chaos buries the whole town?

This whole series is good but I wish it was different from the Blake Wilder books. Even the same expressions are used. "I hate you so much right now" etc.

I "knew" who did it right away but it was still a fun read.

The lies in the Falls(A Sweetwater Falls Mystery Book 6)

OMG!!!!!!! This book was amazing, as well as being very sad. It just goes to show you how not to raise your children, as a parent you need to teach your children how to stand on their own two feet and not give them everything they want. I feel bad for the children, because 2 did horrible things and one has to live with regret. It is truly amazing how sheriff Song got to the bottom of this murder and finally caught the murderers and set an innocent man free. I can't wait to read the next book.

Book 6 , A puzzling murder mystery

The author redeemed herself on this book 6 in the series. The story dealt with the suspense and mystery of a prominent businesswoman in town. There were plenty of suspicious characters including the cheating husband, disgruntled ex-husband, excommunicated brother, and her children. Once again the author looks stall the facts and realizes the don't add up. With her diligent sidekicks, siblings Amanda and Jacob, the sheriff puts all the pieces of the puzzle together to solve the murder, with a surprising twist. Now on to book 7!

A murder mystery with just the right amount of twists and turns!

I’ve read 6 of Sheriff Spenser Song books by Ellie Gray and have come to rely on Ms Gray’s writing style to carry me away from my personal problems. I always enjoy the way Spenser Song unravels the mystery and finds the true murderer and this book was a perfect example of that! I’m already searching for the next book in the series! Take time to check out the Ellie Gray books. You won’t be disappointed!!

The Lies in the Falls by Elle Gray 6/3/2024 Kindle

It’s Christmas time when distraught daughter Aspen Gilchrist approaches Sheriff Song and her undersheriff with concern that her mother Wendy is missing. In spite of the daughter’s fear, there is considerable evidence the woman has voluntarily taken a few days to escape the pressure of her position as head of a successful lumber yard. If she has befallen to a crime, there are plenty of suspects as Wendy is unpopular with many. Days pass as a halfhearted search finds clues pointing both ways.

Once again, the characters in this series issue are interesting enough to hold the reader’s attention, while the story line is weak. Obvious confirmation of alibies is not undertaken, while potential suspects are overlooked. There were little annoying points. A potential culprit is deemed to be left-handed, but this is never again mentioned.

As I’ve said before, this is light reading I’ll continue indulge in but it’s not strong enough to recommend to others.

Sheriff Song is enjoying the Founders Day activities dispite herself when she is approached by a Gilchrist family member (the founders of the local lumber empire) saying her mother is missing. Although Spenser thinks Wendy Gilchrist took a few days off (she's done it before), somehow the more she investigates the more convinced she is that this will turn out badly.

Investigating the ex-husband, the current husband, finances, credit cards etc everything points to the current husband. Things finally come to a head when the body is found and now it's murder.
After his arrest, Spenser still feels something is off and keeps digging.

This series is always a quick, easy read and gives a good indication of who the culprit is.

However, there is still no resolution to Spenser's husband's murder which was hardly mentioned in this one.

This story had potential to be good, but unfortunately just wasn’t. One of the main mysteries of the book (is she dead) was literally given away before reading as “when her body is uncovered in a surprising way” is on the back cover but then it is posed as something you’re not supposed to know until page 166 of 226 when they finally find her. I read several other books in the time it took me to finish this as it just seemed to be quite boring and lacking any real suspense to draw the reader in.

Quick, easy read. I am glad we finally quit getting all the backstory from the other novels and the story was allowed to carry on as if we already knew the important details. However, I was disappointed when I could predict the ending well before it was finished. The other novels left me wanting to continue reading until I was finished, this one I could have ended early as I knew who the killer was.

Too many suspects

Who did it? What did the do? Or did she just take off on a sabbatical without telling anyone? Write your list of suspects, dig into emails, financials, time!ines, interrogate, cross off list. Sheriff Song meticulously goes over every possibility and with the help of her Under Sheriff and the tech person. Finally after many dead ends they get their man/woman. In time to celebrate Christmas. Great job. Thank you.

I’ve enjoyed this series. I gave this book a rating of 3 because I do not like it when an author mentions something very significant once and does not follow it up with any further information. In a mystery/crime story it is especially important. During a scene at the morgue the coroner reveals very important information about the killer being left-handed and that very important information is never mentioned again.

I love the way Elle makes the characters come to life. I enjoy the witty, funny jabs the characters take at each other. Its easy to follow as they stay focused on the case, but show us their life in a small town continues. I come from a small town and I can see the real life here. Thanks for a great read Elle.

Small town, a touch of romance, and the trauma of life

Step by step, a young and brilliant woman walks her way through a town healing from its past and confronted by current challenges all the while building a life of caring and community. The author provides the detail a reader seeks while withholding bits and pieces of the answer. This

#6 in the Sweetwater Falls Series. I love Elle Gray books. Who killed Wendy Gilchrist? She was a super rich Mom and was found dead after her daughter came to Sherriff Spenser Song to report her Mom missing. Everything points to the ex husband doing it, but did he? A surprise ending will shock you. Great mystery!

I like this series and normally by the time I am on Book 6 of a book series, the series has take a drop in interest for me and the story starts going down hill. This writer has kept the series fresh and hasn't changed the personalities of the main characters in this series. I will continue to read this and would recommend this series.

Great book

This series has been really good. Sheriff Song seems to be thrown into more murders and mysteries since she came to town. This book first brings a missing women then to everyone's amazement a horrible death. Her husband is charged with her death but Sheriff Song has her doubts.

Riveting!

I really enjoy this series. It is nice getting to know the characters as they develop from one book to the next. While I figured out who murdered Wendy early on I still enjoyed watching the plot thicken and come to the conclusion. I would however like to know how the body was moved to its final destination.

Spencer is having trouble following the leads to the murder of the town matriarch.

Spencer is not happy with her investigation into the murder of a town matriarch. The leads are there but don’t quite close the gaps. She just has to dig harder.

Tuff case

Such a tough case with so many twists and suspects but as always Spenser and the team get it right in the end. Talking about getting it right - Ryker and Spenser finally get it right. I really look forward to many many more in this series.

Great ending

Spencer Song is a wonderful character. At times, I wonder how such a smart woman can do things she shouldn't do, like visiting a potential suspect without backup. Also, there are times I wish the transitions were smoother. Will I read the next book. Yes!

It reels you in.

The way Elle tells the story it feels so real. I got so caught up in it that I was trying to solve the mystery along with Spenser. Now that is a mystery that was well told, so worth reading.

Where Is Wendy?

I had to keep reading so I could discover who the individual was who killed Wendy. The details of who the suspects were was interesting and made the mystery difficult to solve.

As with the previous books in this series this one was just as thrilling and kept you guessing who did the crime. Love the complex ways the author weaves her story. Can't wait to start the next one!

A prominent figure of Sweetwater Falls goes missing.

As much as I love Elle Gray books I felt like this one was hard to get through.
The plot was good but it seemed like too much information was continuously repeated in the book.
