Can a rookie help a veteran cop catch a diabolical killer?
The hunt for the murderer of two women could be the make-or-break case of Drew Taylor’s career. The veteran police officer has no time to babysit a newbie cop with something to prove. Thrilled to be partnered with the man she has long admired, Nia Brooks pursues every lead…until her life is threatened. And Drew struggles with being protector and partner to Nia. Adrenaline, danger, suspense. HOMETOWN HOMICIDE by Denise N Wheatley is criminal minds, The Killing, & Law & Order all wrapped one. Nia and Drew are partnered up to solve some unsolved mystery murders that hit close to home. I was on edge through this entire story, not knowing what details in this book were real or a mind trick. I'm in my Thriller/suspense era and this book was top tier!!!
If you like reading storylines where you are not sure what awaits on the next page, which characters to trust, and you're solving Mysteries as a reader, then this book is for you. I love piecing puzzles together, gathering information- sucked in by this writing !! 4.5🌟
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the fourth book in the West Coast Story series. I have not read the first three books in this series before picking up this book, but I do think you can read this book as a standalone. This book had me pulled into the story from the beginning, and I found the case that the main characters were trying to solve had me wanting to keep reading. I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters. I loved all the action, suspense, and drama that was in this book. The romance I felt was just not the best. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
I couldn’t put this book down. I was totally hooked on it from the very first page.
A killer is loose in the small town of Juniper, Colorado and Officer Drew Taylor is forced to mentor a new rookie, Nia Brooks. In his opinion, it is bad timing. As one killing after another takes place and then Nia’s sister is kidnapped, it’s a race against time before someone else is killed. Drew quickly realizes Nia is who he needed on his side all along. Together they are able to find the killer. But spending time together also has them realizing there is a little more to their partnership than just work.
Drew is a police officer working hard on a case looking for a serial killer and he has no time to deal with the new rookie cop Nia. Nia is first responder turned to cop and landed herself right into the case that she had first hand in as a first responder to one of the victims. With fresh new eyes looking at the case and the clues as they come forward Nia proves herself but it's clear when the two are getting closer to the perpetrator clearly that person doesn't want to be found and finds the tables are slowly turning to them when familiar clues start popping up towards them.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was interesting how Nia started working as a first responder so she has that kind of inside thing going on where she's kind of close to the case so feels compelled to really work on finding the Killer. And I love seeing how Nia and Drew work together. Drew was kind of set in his ways Nia seemed to be the right choice in giving a fresh new look with things coming up with her own ideas where others may have overlooked because experience may have just made them bypass it or not the close enough and it was just interesting to watch. Then there was a family drama when it comes to Nia and her while child of a sister and then looking further into their relationship it was interesting to see as well. As for the connection between the two I love that it didn't overpower the book it was a good mystery they were in the middle of a case to solve and it wasn't heavy on romance which I appreciate. Overall this was a pretty good book I really enjoyed it.
What a page-turner! Someone is out to hurt women in Juniper, Colorado and it will be up to Nia Brooks, a rookie cop, and Drew Taylor, a veteran officer, to stop the person before more women die. The problem is that Drew isn't interested in mentoring a rookie, much less one as intelligent and beautiful as Nia Brooks. None of that matters to Nia when she's given the chance to find a killer that she thinks is the one who spurred her to go from 911 operator to walking the beat.
Drew and Nia don't have much to go on, but with tenacity and determination, they find the next foothold and claw themselves further up the cliff toward the killer to stop him. Whoever the killer is, he knows Nia and exactly what buttons to push to keep her chewed up about the case and out for his blood before he spills another woman's.
Hometown Homicide was a fun, fast-paced romp through a killing spree that, at first, has no rhyme or reason. Then, Ms. Wheatley starts unraveling the edges for the reader to tug at until the killer and his reasons are revealed. It's a solid 5-star Intrigue read!
There is a killer on the loose who is murdering women in town and it is up to the Hero to put a stop to it so you can guess he has his hands full and doesn’t have time to mentor a rookie (aka heroine) but when her sister gets kidnapped things suddenly becomes personal and sparks begin to fly. They are racing against time to stop this killer before he murders anyone else and falling for each other.
At the beginning of this book I couldn’t stand either Nia or Drew and I almost stopped reading. However, it came with my monthly subscription so I stayed with it. The story is basically a crime procedural and keeps the book moving. Drew and Nia’s characters improve such that you forget how bad they were in the beginning. So I am rating the last 2/3rds of the book.
Exhilarating story as Drew and Nia race against the clock to catch a killer. Really enjoyed this one and finished it in a day. The whole series is great but this one might be one of my faves. I love Nia Brooks as a character. I want a whole tv series with her! :D
A creative story , with clues that had me changing who did it. Dual characters were a great twist. The met cute and romance elements were a slow burn. The West Coast Crime Series are stand alone stories. My suggestion is to read the complete series.
I expect nothing less than stellar work from Denise N. Wheatley, and she absolutely delivered a pulse-pounding, riveting book from page one. Immediate must-read!
