"This ain't no ordinary birthday party. We're gonna make it a whole festival! So let's get this festival started!" [Endo]
The Bofurin members had been left with no choice. They will either face Endo's minions or their school and their beloved town will be in trouble. Everyone's making plans and preparing for the big battle, except for Umemiya who's been restricted to stay on the school grounds. Suo becomes the strategist of class one while Sakura and Sugishita - the two strongest fighters - have been send to the front lines as the vanguards. But the trouble arrives right at the very beginning of the battle - everyone's requesting for backup instantly, feeling overwhelmed by the huge number of opponents. Can our boys stay strong and protect their school and the town from their bloodthirsty enemies?
Those who cause pain. Those who bring destruction. Those who hold evil in their hearts will be purged by Bofurin without exception.
I quite expected for Umemiya to be sealed off during the battle against Endo's people. Strategically, it makes sense for Endo to have Bofurin's strongest fighter away from the battle - and he knew that Bofurin will have to accept this condition if they wanted to keep their town safe. I'm just sorry for Umemiya, because I know that behind that smile he's being distressed and worried for all of his brothers. Being aware that they all are in danger, but having his hands tied must be very hard for him :(
Anyways, I have to admit that I really like Suo's character becoming the brain of class one (he was also called as their heart, but I believe that the heart is actually Nirei). He's exceptionally smart and has the right instincts, so it makes perfect sense. But what I like the most during this volume are Sakura and Sugishita being forced to become partners. We all know that they aren't on any good terms with each other. They aren't rivals per se, but there is a very obvious and strong feeling of dislike between these two. And I really, really love the moments where the two characters who usually don't see eye to eye can put their differences aside and lock in, becoming the ultimate duo when the situation needs it. It's both funny and cool! ;)
"Wait. You're all acting like you guys know what's going on, but I dunno who these Noroshi guys are. I dunno how they look. So how'm I supposed to stop 'em? Don't you have a photo or two or somethin'?" "That's what you're worried about?!" "The hell, man?! What's wrong with that?!" "You don't need to know how they look. You'll know when you see them."
It was obvious that Endo and Takiishi will not show up on the battlefield, so they had to send a group of strong guys to deal with the strongest Bofurin members. But, honestly, the so-called Noroshi members weren't what I expected to see. I mean, would you expect for Suo to fight a Shinji-like guy or for Sakura and Sugishita to fight a younger version of the dad from the "Wizards of Waverly Place"?? (seriously, the resemblance is uncanny) There is also a guy who reminded me of the TikToker who made the "emotional damage" meme, I kid you not! None of these things were on my bingo card!
Anyways, I wonder when Endo and Takiishi will join the battle or if will they go straight to the Furin high school to deal with Umemiya (I hope that my man will be safe, though). And, of course, how well will Sakura, Sugishita and Suo handle the situation, considering the huge number of opponents that all of the guys needs to deal with. Maybe Nirei will somehow safe the day? Who knows? I'm very curious how things will look like! ☺️
“Bofurin doesn’t exist because I’m here. It’s made up of every one of you guys.”
In this volume, Furin devises strategies and tactics to counter Endo. One point I particularly amazed was when Sakura delegated the task of strategizing for the first-year class to Suo. Many might say Sakura only knows how to fight, and that Sun Tzu's war tactics, for example, were handed over to Suo. However, I think there's actually good character development here for Sakura. He begins to trust others.
At the beginning of the story, Sakura wanted to be the strongest. He was used to being alone. It was just himself. But since entering Furin and being part of this, many people, like Umemiya, Hiragi, Suo, Nirei, and others, Sakura gradually began to understand the meaning of friends and family. He also saw how Kaji—the second-year class president—allowed his two vice-presidents to carry out their respective duties. Giving trust is a key point Sakura learned. And Suo's strategy is no joke. Could it be that Suo has read The Art of War?
I love Wind Breaker, i love the characters, i really do, but the storytelling annoys me to no end. How can you make fighting the focal point of the show and attach NO emotional relevancy to it?? They fight for the people etc but as the reader, i have not seen any real emotional connection between the characters and their surroundings that makes me feel why this is important to them and how it would affect them if they lose. This might be a „me-problem“ but i am simply frustrated, because the Mangaka has already shown that they have what it takes to tell emotional stories about the characters. That‘s why i do like the show, but the fights? I feel like they‘re doing it for fun because they‘re teenagers, not because anything is really at stake.
Also, why are there no police and no relevant teachers at that school? The manga could have implemented so well, how police are corrupt or how negligent teachers are and that‘s why the Furin takes matters in their own hand…instead they are either completely missing or somehow background noise.
And another question i carry with me about the bonus story & the beginning: what‘s the thing with Sakuras hair? Why is blue hair (Sugishita) considered normal, as is Umemiyas white hair, but black/white hair on Sakura is suddenly weird and something he gets bullied about? I feel like that is such a weak reason in this kind of universe, but of course that‘s my personal opinion…
Frustrations aside, i love that there was strategy involved in this volume and i love that i can see Suo in action. I‘m just mad, because i love the show and it has so much potential - i just feel it‘s being wasted sometimes 🥲
Although it was funny to see Sugishita slap Sakura's hand away, I'm hoping Sugishita will get some character growth. At least Sakura was willing to shake his hand for the sake of having each other's backs in a fight....can't say the same about Sugishita.
The only reason I believe Sugishita dislikes Sakura so much is that he's jealous? He's jealous that Umemiya likes Sakura too? Idk, but I'm hoping we'll get to see some growth with Sugishita soon. Currently, I only view him as having a rivalry with Sakura and he doesn't do much besides fight...and he helps with Umemiya's garden, so there's that. Still...
It was cool to see Suo take on a leadership role. For once he's up against someone who appears to be on his level. That fight will be interesting to see more of.

SAKURA SO COOL!!! he has changed a lot for sure. God i can't wait for this to get animated. I'd bawl my eyes out from how much they've grown.
Sakura & Sugishita are perfect example of frenemies. They’re just like the twins. sugishita just has to look at sakura for him to understand. i love their dynamic, they say they don’t get along since they’re so similar but they have lots of potential. i have high hopes for them.
I love how Sakura rely on Suo for planning or strategies and Suo is so smart and cool his plan is great and especially Sakura snd Sugishita From enemies to partners huh? Suo♡ sure knows how to playing with his dolls.
Nirei assuring kiryu he can take care of himself and even defend the position like suo. He does really grew up well he’s doing his best!

Sakura and Sugishita being forced to become partners thanks to Suo’s grand plan (he definitely loves watching the two suffer) was honestly hilarious, but despite the constant bickers, these two were actually super in-sync. Love watching them kick some stupid faces together 🖤
Also these Noroshi jerks are so ugly why can’t they just leave Furin alone ugh (to whoever that guy who’s fighting Suo one-to-one, the only reason I tolerate you is because I can see more of Suo’s beautiful fighting styles 💗 I hope Suo’ll kick your face gracefully hard 💗💗)

What am I reading at this point? Like this is a good series, but what am I reading? Where's the police? Why are the police in no way involved when a huge group of kids and young adults just have an all out, no holds barred, guerilla war in the middle of the night? Are the police just that useless in this series? It's kind of wild. Each passing volume I have more and more questions.
ch 99 wow endo how nice of u to put rules down in your declaration of war ok modern military tactics of using a group chat haha u think they don't want umemiya on the front lines when all they want to do is get chika to him
ch 100 the 100th chapter woohoo no chika pay attention to endo pls he's doing this for YOUR birthday. anyway that is such a cool shot of their backs esp with endo's robe. not the smile before they all attack <3
ch 101 ok cute ig
ch 102 sugishita slay
ch 103 "that boy's their brain and heart" IKTR SUOOO someone said these grown men are up at midnight beefing with 15 year olds that's actually hilarious when u put it that way
ch 104 oh i am a big fan of the big 4 having to face their former classmates kanon banjo is giving corona from soul eater i totally get the noroshi bc i would follow endo too no questions asked
ch 105 the stupid partners in crime song is stuck in my head as i watch sakura and sugishita work together but anyways two of them have to fight 1 noroshi meanwhile suo has to fight the other by himself he's so powerful
This series continues to feed me 😩 I’m so blessed by it! I must now suffer waiting for more of the official volume translations to come out 😭
I don’t have much to say about this particular volume as most of it was spent with the characters engaging in the fight against Noroshi, but it was still a great time!
I was so happy to see Sakura and Sugishita working together. They look so iconic fighting in unison, having each other’s backs, and just going all out with each fight. It was lovely 🤩 Despite the animosity between them, they have so much potential as a fighting duo!
I also adored that we got a little bit more of Suo in this volume 💖😊💖 He’s truly showing himself to be quite the strategist, and I’m all for it! It even surprised me to see one of the members of Noroshi call him the brains and heart of the first years 🤔 I’m not entirely sure I agree, but it is an interesting perspective on him!
I’m eager to see how the fight against Noroshi will pan out 👀
Trigger warnings: abandonment (implied), anxiety, bullying (mentioned), child neglect (implied), death of a parent (mentioned), emotional trauma, graphic violence, loss of loved ones, panic attacks (implied).
It might be predictable to say that Furin is potentially going down once they fight these people, but I can't help but feel dreadful as soon as the Noroshi shows up on every corner of the town. Nii Satoru succeeds in introducing these new enemies like the biggest nightmares from Furin's memories. I am absolutely intrigued to see how it will go.
I love that this volume focused on strategy instead of just running out there and fighting.
I can't believe it took me this long to realize it (technically, I realized it by vol. 12), I think Suo is the only 1st year out of the main six who has never gotten hurt, we haven't even seen one injury or bandage, which makes me wonder how strong and or skilled he really is (add his brain to that and he could probably be the best fighter in their class). I'm really curious about his back story and if he had an eye injury or he just wears the eye patch because he thinks it looks cool.
😓 of course the opposition has endless guys with nothing better to do than fight with high schoolers, and naturally they don’t quit even when their overwhelming numbers don’t overwhelm them…good of them to act as cannon fodder and soften up the Furin teams for the leveled up Noroshi team to come and start kicking butt. If it’s anything like a usual shounen epic battle, they’ll have the upper hand for a bit, but miraculously the Furin leaders will keep rising and beat them down righteously after learning some life lessons. I guess police officers just don’t exist in this town…

The lead up and then payoff 5/5. Though, the main fighting will be held for the next volume, and we haven't gotten much of Endo. I'm sure when that comes, it'll be towards the end of the arc. This volume, we officially meet the Noroshi. I'm excited to see in the next issue how some characters handle things. Especially Suo, since thus far he's only taken down weaker characters. I have yet to see him fight an opponent on his level, but a Noroshi member facing one-on-one will definitely be an interesting watch. Along with Suo, there are many fights I look forward to reading against the Noroshi.

The big fight has really started. I love the enemy, Endo is so cool. I have a feeling this one won't be over as quickly as the other arcs just cause of how many people are involved in the fight but I can't wait to get the next one out from the library.
