As an angel, Rami won’t turn away anyone in need. Not their therapy patients and apparently, not even a demon. Showing up on Rami’s doorstep bloody and beaten, Julian seems to need Rami’s help most of all. But no amount of patients - or patience - could prepare them for this injured hellion. Julian, grateful for a taste of freedom, has a job to do. Tempting the angel should be easy, especially since they volunteer to show him all that Earth has to offer. The boundaries of temptation blur more with each simple pleasure Rami introduces him to, such as sweet coffees, baked goods, and soft caresses. So excited to experience Earth, Julian didn’t expect to find Heaven in this angel’s arms. Now there’s no going back. Not to a time before Rami and not to Hell. But if he fails his temptation, he won’t have a choice. The most authentic human experience of all stands between Julian and love. ~ Tempt yourself with this heartfelt romcom as Rami and Julian discover what being human is all about.
With a southern twang that's all charm, Lana hails from Tennessee with her four feline roommates. If one of them isn't demanding her attention, she's most likely writing. Her stories bring life to characters who don't fit the mold, romance as sweet as it is sexy, and worlds better than this one. Author of paranormal, sweet omegaverse, monster romance, and queer love stories with a happily ever after.
“We’re an ángel and a demon-I think we’ll be alright”.
This was such a cozy, sweet read. Rami was such a selfless person and Julian was always pushing their buttons. The banter and the commentary between them were a lot of fun! I found the first half of this story to be a little lacking - it was building up the relationship and building trust between them, but I wanted a bit faster pace. The second half I enjoyed a lot more! I appreciated the consent and the exploring during the spice and there were some pretty good scenes. I also wanted to see a little more grovelling from Julian at the end. Gotta make the characters work for it sometimes!
Thanks to the author and Fated Promos for the ARC copy of this book!
How Not to Date and Angel was the absolute sweetest! I was fully invested in Rami and Julian's relationship right from the start. I freaking love how Julian liked to tease Rami whenever he could, and how easily flustered Rami gets 🤣💜 This series honestly has a special place in my heart 🥰
You want cozy, sweet, and funny in your story? Look no further. This angel and demon will charm your fuzzy socks off!
It was 𝙨𝙤 𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙚 to have a non-binary gender fluid character as the star of this show. Because it was just normal, and no big deal. 𝘈𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺. They are just another person in the world. Or in this case, angel. Rami was absolutely selfless and precious and the type of person we would feel safe with, especially in a therapy type setting. Hello pro therapy!
Julian is every single one of us and our mischievous antics, our intrusive thoughts, and our well meaning selfishness. All he really needed was a little TLC! We might use 𝒸𝒾𝓃𝓃𝒶𝓂𝑜𝓃 𝓇𝑜𝓁𝓁 too much as a descriptor, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 😅
Curl up with your favorite blanket, your coldest wine, your most favorite chocolate, and enjoy the hell, 𝘱𝘶𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥, out of this story. Thank you Lana Kole, and Fated Romance for the early copy, we loved it!
Lana Kole has done it again. I can never thank them enough for this world and these characters that all feel like a warm hug under my favorite blanket. Rami and Julian are everything and more. Their love story is everything and more. I'll be thinking and talking about them for years to come :)
if you’re in the mood for the perfect blend of wholesome and fun angels and demons, with a side dish of cute otters and halo bending spice, run to pick this up right now.
the story focuses on rami, a nonbinary angel therapist who loves routines and good coffee (virgo), and julian, a hot, funny, overworked demon sent from hell directly to rami’s doorstep to tempt an angel to sin.
it’s so cute, it’s so funny, it’s so wholesome, and though it takes a while for the spice to warm up, by the end you will be sweating. literally infinity stars for inappropriate use of a halo, precious zoo animals, and a delicious and cozy slow burn romance that positively sizzles in the back half.
Such a cute cozy story! The book was very gender and sexuality affirming, pro therapy, and pro working through biases. Rami was adorable with their determination to follow the letter of the law, so to speak, to a point where they were unwilling to use magic day to day to make their life easier. Julian was a selfish but cinnamon roll demon who needed a lil love to truly embrace the idea of ever being selfless. Their head butting was pretty innocent 99% of the time, and they both grew from their relationship and their self work.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: violence (off page), domestic violence (off page), abuse of side character, grief
Wow, I did not expect to love this as much as I did! This follows Rami and Julian, and angel and a demon respectively. Their relationship was absolutely adorable the entire time and their chemistry was awesome. Even though Julian is holding a big secret, you can't help but root for them the entire time. The spice was great, and it was also a lot of fun, different than I have read before which is a good thing!
This was definitely a slow burn, but does have a third act breakup. It was brief, but still! I have to warn my friends here haha.
Overall, I felt this was a quick, fun read and I would definitely recommend it!
How Not To Date An Angel is a sweet, cozy, slow burn, paranormal romance with an agender Angel and a Demon beaten, and sent to his door to tempt him.
Rami has been on Earth for so long they might be losing touch with Heaven. Acting as a therapist helps them feel useful, despite the awful things humans do to each other.
When a badly injured Demon shows up at their door, they can’t turn him away. Julian is there under false pretences, but what's important to both of them shifts as they spend a week teaching each other about simple pleasures of life on Earth.
Rami and Julian were the absolute sweetest couple! Julian is a sunshiny, cinnamon roll of a Demon who only took this job to spend time on Earth. Rami has spent so much time amongst humans that their view of the world, including Heaven and Hell, has become distorted.
I liked that Rami chose to switch between different genitalia, though they used they/them pronouns throughout. Julian's acceptance of them and delight in their exploration of their sexuality was lovely. I also especially liked their explorations into their local queer community.
The first half was a little slow, and this is definitely a slow burn. But I think it fits the characters. Rami starts the book as an agender, asexual angel, after all, and much of the first half is just the 2 MCs.
In this you'll find: ✨️Contemporary PNR ✨️A non-binary (agender/genderfluid), previously asexual Angel ✨️The Cinnamon Roll, male Demon, sent to tempt him ✨️Slow burn ✨️Forced proximity ✨️Injuries from a beating ✨️Deception ✨️Domestic abuse (secondary character) ✨️Past death of a friend in a fire ✨️First times ✨️Agender character changes their body ✨️A HEA
I am not rating this book, due to heavy suspicion of AI use.
How not to Date a Demon ★★ How not to Date a Dragon ★★★★ How not to Date a Griffin ★★★★ How not to Date an Angel (no rating; would be a 2.5)
actual thoughts on the plot/ romance yada yada ☞ the book was fine, pretty sweet, very cozy, low stakes all that. felt like a warm blanket, and hey I actually finished it after being in a slump for a good week or so. so there's that. good representation, too. needed HEAVY editing. I say that with a lot of love, but there were so many instances where my eye was twitching bc things were repeated that have been said a paragraph prior OR the conversation flow was jarring to say the least, bc it sounded like the characters were responding to thing that have been cut out/ said later in the text. And those things were so glaringly obvious that either a) author did not bother proof reading their own work enough and/ or b) their beta-readers suck, bc those things should have been picked up on very easily.
That last uhm sex scene was a choice , I'd say. I'd say the promise of the premise when picking up an Angel/ Demon book is Wings, Horns & Tails, maybe some making love in the clouds bs, you know things like that. We got very little of wings, one time use of horns, and 0 tail (again, why give your characters a tail, elude to using it but not showing it? Do I have to buy a patreon DLC for that?). What we did get though was TENTACLES. yup - yeah makes total sense to me too. Idk why I'm even surprised, really.
I received an advance copy via the author’s Patreon; this in no way influences my review.
I’d been looking forward to this one since Lana first mentioned it, and that cover art?! I needed to get my hands on it! And this absolutely did not disappoint. I love the banter and snark between Rami and Julian, especially the ways Julian purposely enjoys pushing Rami’s buttons but is also quick to respect and listen to actual boundaries. I love the lore of angels and demons, and hope that’ll be something Lana is able to explore more at a later date. I especially appreciated the breakdown of angels and demons not being good versus evil, but a matter of selflessness versus selfishness and the ways that was explored, and how Rami had to do work because they’d been on earth so long they’ve started internalizing earth morality and purity politics. As always, I love how much Lana centers consent and communication and check-ins during the sex and how much the characters are very obviously enjoying themselves. All around this was a perfect weekend read and brought me a lot of delight!
I'm a huge fan of this series and I loved Rami and Julian. The author did a really great job of writing Rami as a non-binary/gender fluid character. The way it was written into the story was very interesting and different from anything I've read before. Lana handled a lot of hard topics and did it all with grace. I loved how pro therapy the book was, how biases were approached, and how it's not about "good vs evil."
Rami was adorable. Always afraid to break any Angel "laws," but always wanting to help the humans anyway they could. Julian was a cinnamon roll of a MMC and I loved how sweet and understanding he was with Rami. There was no judgement, just curiosity. When a client of Rami's showed up needing help, Julian jumped in to help in anyway he could.
I do wish we got to see Julian in his demon form a little more, but that's just me being in love with demons. I hope these two are living unbothered in a cute little house where the wine is always cold, the bath bubbles last forever, and the chocolates are everlasting.
If we could do half stars this would be a 4.5 for ke for sure. The book started a little slow for me, I felt myself taking many breaks but once I hit like 30% in I was locked in. I loved this story and the characters so much. Rami was such a complex character of being good but also letting themselves just live a little. I will also say for being they/them some times I did have trouble realizing the story was talking about them and not both people together but it was easy enough to figure out. Also... the fact that they can be a donut or a long john 👀 WILD such a fun thing to be able to do then you could experience everything that's honestly like the dream. I loved watching Julian start to respect Rami as a person. Stopped saying Holy s h I t and just really take them in. The aquarium scenes were probably my favorite besides the grocery story (I got the salad joke and cackled so loud) and them just being together was so cute. I thought i had read other books in the series but I realize I hadn't and I definitely will because this was such a fun read and I really loved the book
Read this if you like: truly gender-fluid characters (angels can change their equipment at will) two people finding each other against expectations secrets coming out at the WORST time LOTS and LOTS of firsts Interesting appendages
Rami is so interesting in their combination of naivety and take charge attitude. Their many years on Earth have made them cautious and withdrawn with no real personal connections. Julian is new to Earth but knowledgeable about so many things about which Rami lacks information. The "forbidden" aspect (at least from Rami's POV) adds to the push-pull of their relationship, but overall they are a really cute coupling that made for an enjoyable reading experience.
Rami and Julian were brilliant to read, their voices so distinct and the tension and humor so well-balanced. The slide was ghost chili hot and the romance cinnamon sweet. The lore was so much fun too and I absolutely devoured this book.
Safe to say I’ve found another author to obsess over. Can’t wait to read the rest of this collection!
How can I review a book that was just the perfect reading experience? How to I adequately gush without spoiling it for everyone else?
This book, y’all. 😭🥰 I am thoroughly obsessed! @lanakoleauthor always manages to knock my socks off and I can safely say that my mind was completely blown by how much I adored this book and our leads. Rami and Julien are the absolute cutest and I was rooting for them from page 1.
If you haven’t read Lana’s Cautionary Tales series, add this to your TBR! This is your sign!
This book has everything I love: • a nonbinary lead! • NB x M romance • monster romance • cozy setting where monsters live openly with humans • hella emotional growth for the MCs • forced proximity • the one bed trope • 🌶️ lessons
If you love Good Omens and just want the best for Crowley and Aziraphale, this is for you. I loved everything about this book and I cannot screech enough about how sweet this book was.
4.5/5 stars Listen, I am a sucker for Character A has to seduce Character B for a mission, and they end up falling in love with them and then it all goes bad. And this is exactly what that trope is, so I enjoyed it. This is probably my favorite book of the series, and who knew halos can be used for other methods
The plot was slow going, and very predictable. A lot of of the same thing written in different ways. The 🌶 more frequent than anticipated and enjoyable.

This book. 👏🏻 THIS BOOK. 👏🏻 Highlight of my week. I was not expecting to love this as much as i did but for the past 3 days, it’s all i’ve been thinking about. Rami and Julian were absolutely incredible. Rami, in particular, stole my heart. I am so obsessed with them. And the whole dynamic of this relationship was fantastic, they were so good together, so sweet. 🥹❤️ ahh, i miss them so much already. i want a ten book series of them going out to bakeries and queer bars. Also, this book made me laugh, it was hilarious. Give me more please 👏🏻❤️ and yes, i know this is a series but i have not read the 3 previous books in the series YET. Now i definitely will.
if you are looking for a sweet, cozy, adorable queer romance 🥰 With fun smut (That last smutty scene gets… interesting 👌🏻) and lovable characters, PICK THIS ONE UP.
This book was so cozy, spicy and cute I just devoured it quickly!
My bff said among many reasons, to read this if you’re a therapist who works too much … so 🙋🏼♀️ and I always listen to her recommendations.
This book features a non binary, gender fluid therapist angel, named Rami and a demon sent to Earth for reasons you’ll find out, named Julian.
The banter from Julian and the innocence from Rami just made me giggle and kick my feet, I loved everything about these characters. This was my first book from Lana Kole and it’s safe to say it won’t be my last!
Check the CW/TW before hopefully enjoying this cozy and scrumptious book 💙🩶
For transparency's sake, I received How Not to Date an Angel (HNDA) as an Advanced Reader’s Copy (ARC) and my review is honest and unpaid/unsponsored.
Overarching: 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 Overrching:⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Genres: monster romance, rom com Tropes: slow burn, opposites attract, first time, fated love, only one bed Content Warnings: first times, magically shifting nether regions, hand jobs, horn jobs, oral, penetrative sex, tentacle sex, questionable use of a halo. Explicit Spicy Scenes: slow burn up until ch17, then straight up glorious smut through chapter 21 - absolutely delectable
PLEASE NOTE: POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD
HNDA follows an Angel living on earth to study humans. One day a demon literally shows up on their doorstep. We later find out that it’s because he’s been assigned to temp the angel and if he succeeds, he’ll gain a promotion to remain on Earth to temp humans permanently.
Rami is our angel; they’re nonbinary, genderfluid, silver when in their angelic form, an adorable sweater-lover when in their human form (relatable), and they have the ability to magically change their…nether regions. In a kind of funny turn of events, Rami is a therapist, they drive a Kia Soul, they dot the “i” in their name with a halo, and their favorite exhibit at the aquarium is the otters who have literary names. Chef’s Kiss! They reportedly smell like clean cotton and vanilla and clouds, according to Julian, and I’m formally petitioning for this to be in candle form. I need it, thank you! Rami is also a romance (smut) reader who understands the struggles of romantic encounters not always living up to those in their books. Thank you for your representation, good angel. If only more characters were as relatable!
Julian is our demon; he’s a stereotypical male that doesn’t want to understand his feelings, but can also be pretty gold when in his demonic form. This man is baffled by charcuterie boards, terrified of automatic doors, loves jellyfish, and also loves otters because Rami loves them. He’s so frustratingly loveable and I don’t think his character would feel correct if he were written differently. I kept questioning how someone, as a guest in someone else's home, could have so much audacity. then I remember Julian is a literal demon and essentially composed of audacity and selfish inclinations.
Things I absolutely loved about HNDA: - The subtle implications that businesses purchasing homes strictly to turn them into Airbnbs is GOLD - people need regular housing everywhere and we deserve to have regular housing at reasonable cost. - The way Rami just up and dumped a whole cup of water on Julian's head without warning or tipping so it wouldn't run all down his face, just for funsies. - I love their trip to the aquarium, especially when they see the otters and the jellyfish!! - The way the realization they were in love with each other felt like it took so long, but was actually a week.
Please note that if you’re squishy and emotional on the inside no matter how hard you make your exterior (like me) that chapters 25 and 26 both had me in tears and the epilogue is so extremely heartwarming. 💜
Quick back to basics; I love that HNDA has both chapter titles and numbers. So many books only have one or the other, typically leaning towards only numbers these days, but I love having both. It just adds a little je ne sais quoi, ya know? Lana has also perfected the use of measured, powerful descriptors. I mean, how can you not feel all the feelings when reading "the sound pouring from the very depths of his soul"?!
I absolutely loved every moment of this book and I hope you take the time to read it. If you do, let me know what you think!
I am really enjoying this series of different supernatural creatures and them finding love (sometimes in unconventional ways haha). I thought Rami was precious, the inexperience was endearing and I liked that Julian called them out on some of their naivety in a funny way. I thought the chemistry between the two was fabulous and I thought even if it was started off on a lie, it was genuine and blossomed beautifully between them.
I felt for both of these characters for the loneliness they both have felt and endured in their lifetimes. I loved how they found each other and eventually let their love be known and embraced it. I wanted to hug Julian when he was realizing how much he missed the touch of others and being cared for. The way Rami did little things that warmed Julian’s heart made me smile so hard. I couldnt get over the date to the aquarium hahaha. That Rami could name the otters was SO CUTE! I loved how Julian as they realized their feelings, tried to see how receptive Rami would be. The handholding and not realizing made me swoon too! I couldnt help laughing at the sex shop haha. Good try Julian!
I really enjoyed the exploration this book provided the characters but also the readers. I love the diversity and inclusion this author has been bringing to their stories and this one was no exception. The way Rami could swap things around (not spoiling it I promise) was so much fun but also eye opening to difficulties I think people in our society go through with labels and not feeling right in their own skin. The way Rami picked what felt right to them made my heart so happy. I also loved how accepting Julian was. This series to me is more of a romcom in a paranormal world but this one I think hit deeper than the others with the topics and how well the author navigated it all. There were some serious moments that will stick with me for a long time, more than the funny moments (not a bad thing, they were just so impactful I will remember them ❤️).
I thought the steam was fabulous in this book, just the right amount of steam but also cute/swoonworthy moments between them. I will say though I couldnt give this a 5 stars like I did the previous book in the series because the plot wasnt there for me as much. This book was larger than the others but unlike book 3 (HNTDAG) it didnt have a big plot/wasnt a big conflict in my opinion comparatively. I loved book 3 because we got that amazing relationship building but had a storyline that kept the story driving. Not so much here (again I did lot the romance but I do like a mix of them). Also I was sad we got a couple mentions about Rami being silver and Julian being gold but we actually didnt get to see them together like that. We had Rami in his angel form but never when Julian was in his demon form. I understand timing or keeping those scenes for extras for subs but if the characters both mention it in different moments, I would have loved to see it in the epilogue or something.
Overall still enjoyed it, would be interested to see if there are anymore planned in this awesome, adorable world.
This is the fourth in a series but they're pretty much unconnected. The couple from book 1 make a brief appearance but you wouldn't need to have read it. This was my favourite of the series, although I liked them all.
Rami (angel) takes in Julian (demon) when he turns up on their doorstep, injured. Unknown to them, Julian has an assignment to try and “tempt” an Angel. What transpires is just the sweetest story. Rami is an absolute darling, they are cosy vibes personified, and they love books and otters 😍 too cute. Julian is a demon but is an absolute sweetheart underneath the swearing and grumpiness. He is intrigued by jellyfish and scared of the supermarket. They're both just lonely so when they end up as temporary roommates, we just get a bunch of sweet scenes of them making coffee together, having baths, watching TV etc.
It quite quickly turns steamy as Julian offers to teach Rami about sex, while Rami teaches him about human pleasures (like coffee and chocolate). The spice is really great. In this book the angels can choose whether they have male or female genitals (or other things down there - won't spoil that surprise!). Being non binary / genderfluid, Rami switches between the two, leading to some varied sex scenes.
Also - halo bondage, teeny bit of praise kink, visiting a sex toy shop, Julian (demon) is somewhat submissive
This book had a sensitivity reader. I didn't think the religious messaging was heavy handed in this book at all. The overall message is actually very positive, about selflessness rather than good and evil. Rami is a virgin at the start but doesn't feel shame about having sex and states that virginity is a human construct anyway.

Um this is so cozy and cute, and SO spicy. I do not want to spoil anything but Rami’s magic as a non-binary angel was so inventive, and yielded some extremely original (and hot) spice. Combined with an old favorite trope of “let me teach you”…*chef’s kiss*
Rami is content with their existence as an angel on Earth. Helping humans as a therapist, and finding happiness in small indulgences. When a beat up demon appears on their doorstep, it’s in their nature to help…and then send him on his way. Julian however has other plans. As demon and angel get to know each other, both find they don’t want to go back to their lives before.
Rami is the epitome of cozy, with their soft sweaters, love of pour overs, reading in the sunshine and fancy chocolate. Truly relatable. Their day to day small indulgences will remind you to savor the simple pleasures.
Julian was such a great contrast. Brash, casual, rough around the edges, and equally lonely. Where Rami isolated themself from getting too close to humans, Julian has been essentially in forced isolation his whole life in Hell. I adored seeing Earth through his eyes, especially the freaking adorable aquarium trip.
The whole book takes place in and around Rami’s home. Cooking, making coffee, trips to the local queer bar…it’s very domestic. The most drama happens at the end; I loved the surprisingly nuanced conversations about selfishness and unconscious bias.
I read this book as part of the Trans Rights Readathon, and I look forward to checking out the rest! I definitely didn’t feel like I missed out not having read the first three.
