International bestselling MM romance author Kelex lives in Hampton Roads, Virginia with her twenty-something slacker kidult and two senior grandpups.
When not being a pain in her daughter’s ass or writing under various pen names, she also loves to create stained glass, paint, crochet, bake gorgeous breads, and host game night with all her kiddos, be they born or adopted.
I only got this anthology just to read Maz Maddox’s entry and am only writing this review for myself and so that I have a record of having read it (I’m SUPER forgetful). A Debt Repaid was really short, even for an anthology. Sweet but ultimately not much story or depth. As a huge Maddox fan and HUGE fan of her RELIC dino shifter series, I’m happy to have read this but was a bit underwhelmed and disappointed that it didn’t deliver more.
I’m not familiar with any of the other authors and I suppose this would be a good opportunity to get to know them but I’m not a fan of mixed author anthologies in general and in the last m/m anthology I tried, all 4 of the first 4 stories failed for me, so I quit and don’t have it in me yet to give another anthology of unknown authors a try.
I was very lucky to receive all three ARCs for this MM Dino charity anthology (blue, pink, green). I’m going to add as I read each.
Blue Group Arc:
Grow A Spinosaurus - RS McKenzie - This is a very sweet story between August the professional song writter that travels the world searching for something bigger than him. And Dante the bartender and Spinosaurus. Both characters are cinnamon roles, body positive and although the story is short the book packs a steamy punch. 4 stars
A Boy Called Blue - JP Sayle - I loved that so much!! If you have read this authors Potato shifter series you are going to be so happy! If you haven’t then you are in for a real treat!! Pure perfection! 5 stars
The Dino Whisperer - DK Sutton - Tate & Austyn are too sweet!! I absolutely loved them, the romance part of this was on point! I still have a lot of questions regarding the motives of the villain, if this becomes a full length book later I’ll definitely want to read it. I’m not sure why Walter is a pirate but he did grow on me. 4 stars
Mikel’s Mage - Annie Taylor - This was a fun paranormal treat, I loved the combination of magic with shifter. If this becomes a series I’d definitely be hooked on it. I absolutely adored Mikel and his inner me monologue, especially in his dinosaur form. I also loved the secret magic police at the end. Really this would be a great series. I would like to know how old the characters were though, I had some confusion over the when their relationship started. 4.5 stars
His Triceratops Omega - Katy Nanz - I thought this was a really fun twist in the Dino shifter. I could totally see myself making this error that Damian did and turn myself into a frog or something! 😂😂 I also loved that this was in an omagaverse world; I would have loved to see a little more of this. 4.5 stars
Pink Group Arc:
Jurassic Measures - Davidson King - That was fantastic, I was so excited to see a little bit of enemies to lovers in there. With stories like this I know it can be hard to ride that line of insta love; I found that was done really well here. Please give us a series!! 5 stars
Craving the Carnivore - Kelex - Kelex is one of my favourite authors so admittedly I have an high hopes and oh boy did she deliver! I do t know how she packed so much into a novella but she did. Intrigue and deception and aliens! Need more 😭😭😭 5 stars
The DinoStore - Kiernan Kelly - This started out strong, I liked the concept of mini Dino’s and the alien aspect. I loved Vic’s personality when dealing with the obnoxious family in his shop. But after I felt the rest was a bit rushed and a couple inconsistencies. I’d love to learn more about Bron and what happened with his ex, and understand more about him as well as the alien aspect of Vic. 3 stars
Dino Love and Alpha Knots - Kota Quinn - yesss OMEGAVERSE! Loved it! Reese & Seela”s dates were so cute and they had wonderful chemistry. Also the last chapter was hot and adorable! The only issue is all the food talk and now I’m so hungry! 5 stars
Toeing the Line - MZ Arthur - I have a bit of a crush on these two, seriously loved this world building and all that banter. They had so much chemistry to which is impressive with this size book. But I have to say that last page. What a teese!! I need that chapter please! You know what I’m talking about! 5 stars
Green Group Arc:
The Alberto Effort - Nikki Prince - This was a steamy one and I loved it. Alberto Dino shifter running from love due to his own fear from childhood team. Jameson so confident and sexy and knows what he wants. Seriously these two are fire. 5 stars
Jurassic Spark - Pandora Pine - This one has me torn. I really enjoyed most of the book. They had chemistry, great banter and I laughed quite a few times. Really I loved them so much. However the surprise at the end threw me off and didn’t feel like it flowed with the story. I did enjoy the epilogue though. 3.5 stars
The Saurian’s Bargain - April Andrews - Damnnn that was hot! It was very different from the others in the collaboration so far. Gave erotic sci-fi vibes and I’m here for it. I’d definitely read a full feature on these boys!! 5 stars
The Dept Repaid - Maz Maddox - I’m sure to no one’s surprise this was absolutely spectacular! Excellent meet cute, funny, excellent chemistry, swoony. If you have read Maz”s other Dino books I highly recommend you do so. 5 stars
Fossil Beds Bed & Breakfast- Siobhan Muir - I was so excited to find this was a FF romance. Two Dino shifters that didn’t realize were just miles from each other for so many years. It was very sweet and a bit sexy. And I love how they stand up to the enemy in the end. Also LOVE Maya’s kids! 4.5 stars
On one hand, dinosaurs aren't a thing that usually piques my interest. And yet, the curiosity of "how do you achieve a romance using a shifter of a creature that's been extint for centuries?". And the curiosity won, so I got an advanced reader copy of a sampling of the stories in the anthology. My process as to how I rated each story was: on one hand, how the romance and story flowed and worked (aka, my usual), on the other how well and creatively the authors managed the dinosaur aspect of the story.
Jurassic measures - Davidson King
Certainly interesting. Fated mates is the easiest way to develop a short story, and Davidson did a good job with showing the fated mates rituals we're used to but adapting them to a dinosaur. I'm sure the dinosaur angle could have been played with more, but overall it was a satisfying love story. Three and a half stars.
Craving the carnivore - Kelex
This one has a very creative explanation as to the why of dinosaur shifters. This one does play a lot with the dinosaur angle, having both characters be paleontologists. It's shorter and more on the sci-fi realm, but it plays into the theme well. Four stars.
The dinostore - Kiernan Kelly
Dino pets and alien dinosaur shifters are an interesting explanation, but the romance felt a bit too rushed to my liking. Three stars
Dino love and alpha knots - Kota Quinn
This one is a more traditional kind of shifter story, with fated mates thrown in. They do take their time to develop a relationship, rather than getting the moving van on the first date. Plus first author that played a bit with the idea that we don't actually know what dinosaurs look like. Just a bit, but it was appreciated. Four stars
Toeing the line - MZ Arthur
It had the most suspense as to wether the secret would be revealed, but it took a turn for the sexy and ended in a strange note. It felt like reading a sample of a novel instead of a novella/short story. Plus we got very little when it came to how the dinosaur angle was played. Three stars.
This would be a total score of three and a half stars for the overall story sample, rounded to four because we can't use halves in the star system. I am not a dino convert, but I enjoyed myself and that's what counts.
When a figure is spotted in the ocean, August is drawn to see if it is fact or fiction. He doesn't want to take a photo. Just know we are not alone in the universe. This beautiful attitude leads Dante , a Dino shifter, to be able to start letting this stranger in. They have a whirlwind romance that has you believe in love at first sight, and accidents were meant to happen for two souls to meet.
3/5 A Boy Called Blu by JP Sayle I am at a loss for words on this one. Never thought I'd read about a potato shifter with a daddy kink mixed in, and yeah, don't plan on trying that ever again. Not kink shaming, just a little too weird, even for me.
5/5 The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton Austyn & Tate have been circling around one another for months now, both too afraid to show their true selves. But when Austyn is assigned to help Tate, they learn that if they can let that out, they can be together. They have to deal with a not to so friendly group of dinosaur shifter to get there, but it works in the end.
The overall rating is the average of the following ratings.
Jurassic Spark by Pandora Pine 4 stars - It was really good
This was a short but sweet story about a paleontologist who accidentally reveals he is a dinosaur shifter during a one night stand. Gibson and Cooper's story was incredibly sweet and I love how their story played out. Also I was not expecting Cooper's reveal at the end there.
Grow A Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie 3 stars - I liked it
This was a sweet story about a songwriter who is interested in a monster sighting in the ocean but instead falls for the local bartender, who happens to be a Spinosaurus. These two had very cute interactions and I loved how much August blushed.
Fossil Beds Bed & Breakfast by Siobhan Muir 3 stars - I liked it
This was a great story about two dinos shifters who are fighting to prevent their town from being seized by rich land developers and in the process meet. I really liked Maya and Peria’s story. It was very cute and sweet. They had instant chemistry and I liked seeing them scare off the vandals together in dino form. Also Maya’s two kids were great side characters and I was surprised by their reveal at the end.
Jurassic Measures by Davidson King DNF chapter 4
I don't like Landry at all. He is pushy, doesn't respect Jason when he tells him no he doesn't want to go on a date with him, and really comes across as a stalker. Also not really feeling any chemistry between these two because of this so I am just going to DNF. I did like Jason though.
Toeing the Line by MZ Arthur 2 stars - It was ok
This was an ok story about a paleontologist who is trying to get access to a holiday park where a dinosaur bone was found but is getting refused by the owners. Matt and Rhys were ok but I didn't really love Matt. I feel like he was too used to getting his way and didn't respect Rhys and his family when they told him no the first time. I also didn't like how he tried to get Rhys' father and grandfather drunk to get access that way.
Dino Love and Alpha Knots by Kota Quinn 3 stars - I liked it
This was a sweet story about Special Agent Garrett Seela finally finding his fated mate but they are a human omega. Garrett and Reese were very cute and sweet together. I really enjoyed how Garrett tried to go slow to win over Reece but they both couldn’t really fight their instincts.
Also just as an FYI, there is no MPreg in this story.
The Alberto Effect by Nikki Prince 4 stars - It was really good
This was a wonderful second chance, fated mates story. Alberto had a terrible childhood which caused him to push the one man who was his mate away and now five years later on a blind date Jameson finally finds him again and gets his second chance. Al and Jay’s story was very emotional and shows how trauma can be overcome with the right help and the right partner. I really enjoyed Al and Jay’s relationship and loved that we see Al apologizing in the end and making strides to overcome his trauma.
TW: mentions of rough home life as a child; manipulative mother; father struggled with alcohol before he died;
The Dinostore by Kiernan Kelly 4 stars - It was really good
This was an interesting life mates story because the dinosaur shifters are actually a race of aliens (Saurians) who originally came to Earth and seeded it with dinosaurs, then returned centuries later to find out they went extinct and decided to present humans with micro dinosaurs as pets instead. Vic is a Saurian, a Dryasaurus shifter to be exact, who sells mini dinosaurs at his shop and one day meets Bron a human dino salesman who is trying to sell some more exotic mini dinosaurs. This was a very fast paced and fated mates story but Vic and Bron were very cute together. I also really love the whole idea of alien dino shifters and mini dinosaur pets. It was just a very fun story and I would totally read more in this world.
Mikel’s Mage by Annie Taylor 2 stars - It was ok
TW: mentions of homomisia, child abuse, starvation, conversion therapy, bullying, death of parents and child kidnapping.
This was a different kind of shifter story than all the rest. Mikel is a dinosaur mage and he finds this out when he is locked by the elders in his coven into his T-Rex form to try and prevent him from using magic. His teenage bodyguard/crush Indiana returns and helps him figure out the spell and reveals the truth of his past. Mikel and Indys story was interesting because it was a very unique take on dinosaur shifting but I didn't find some aspects of the story confusing. I am a bit confused about how old Indy is compared to Mikel and why he required a bodyguard to begin with as a teen. Mikel and Indys relationship was a bit abrupt with Mikel being angry at being abandoned by him to instantly forgive him and admitting his feelings. I was expecting a bit more conversation about their relationship and feelings but it got overshadowed by why the elders wanted Mikel.
I also am a bit confused on how the magic system works in this world and how the shifter aspect actually integrated with it. We get a very brief explanation but I still have questions about how this works.
The Saurian’s Bargain by April Andrews 2 stars - It was ok
This story was ok. The setting was unique and the dinosaurs were cool but I wasn't really captivated by Jora’s story. The world was more interesting to me.
A Boy Called Blu by JP Sayle Weird & Wacky Shifters series 3 stars - I liked it
I wasn't expecting to read a potato shifter book in a dinosaur anthology but here we are. This was a daddy kink/fated mates story with Trike, a deinoychus shifter, and Blu, a potato shifter. I enjoyed this but do feel like a lot of things going on in this world were left unfinished, but that probably will get solved in the potato shifter series.
His Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz GSC in Love series 3 stars - I liked it
Omega witch Damien attempts a spell to become a wolf shifter like the rest of his family, unfortunately it goes wrong and he finds himself turned into a triceratops. Hudson, a dragon shifter, is sent by the Global Shifter Council to help Damien and his coven try to reverse the spell before humans find out.
This was an interesting fated mates/mpreg story. I liked the idea of witches who could also be shifters and a global shifter council. I still am very new to mreg stories and don't really love pregnancy in romance in general but it wasn't the end so I didn't mind it.
The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton 2 stars - It was ok
This was an ok story about a dinosaur shifter clothier who finds himself helping a reluctant shifter and dealing with a mob boss at the same time. While I liked aspects of this story, I feel like parts of the story were missing and I was just left with a lot of questions in the end.
Craving the Carnivore by Kelex 3 stars - I liked it
This was a very interesting scifi story with dinosaurs shifters being created by an alien species who are also protecting two alien dinosaurs worlds, one for shifters and one for regular dinosaurs. Avi and Erik’s story was very interesting and sweet. I really liked that they both had been crushing on each other for over a year but it takes Avi’s recent discovery to finally push them together. I would totally read more books set in this world.
A Debt Repaid by Maz Maddox 3 stars - I liked it
This was a very cute story with a human who rescues a weird looking bird from a bundle of wire but quickly finds out it's not a bird, it's a dinosaur shifter. I really enjoyed Zack and Ru’s story. It was short, sweet, and showed that finding the right person can really help you get over an ex-boyfriend. Also, if we get more RELIC shorts in the future, I hope these two pop up.
If you enjoy dinosaur shifters you don't want to miss this wonderful collection of stories.
Jurassic Measures by Davidson King is an enjoyable story about Jason, a tailor and shop owner, and Landry, a dinosaur shifter that enters Jason's life in a whirlwind. I liked Jason and Landry together. Fated mates will not be ignored.
Craving the Carnivore by Kelex is a fascinating story about Dr. Avi Stevenson and Dr. Erik Karlsson. Avi has no idea the man he's been obsessed about at work, who happens to be a dinosaur shifter, will change everything he thought he knew about the world. I liked how Avi's clumsiness is ultimately used for good.
The DinoStore by Kiernan Kelly is a steamy story about Vic, a store owner and dinosaur shifter, and Bron, a dino seller. When Bron finds his way into Vic's store he has no idea it will be the best thing he could've done. The best for both of them.
Dino Love and Alpha Knots by Kota Quinn is a wonderful story about Reese, a human omega baker, and Seela, an alpha dinosaur shifter. I really enjoyed this story. Seela just couldn't quite figure out who his fated was, but he knew they were close.
Toeing the Line by MZ Arthur is about Rhys O'Malley, a dinosaur shifter, and paleontologist Matt Harding. When a dinosaur bone is found in Northern Ireland that is less than a century old, Matt knows he needs to go and see if there are any more bones there that he can unearth. The discovery was found on the O'Malley family's holiday park and Rhys wants nothing to do with any digs that might take place. He likes his privacy and doesn't want his family's secrets to get out. I liked Matt's curiosity to what to know more about Rhys and why he's so adamant about not have anyone dig on his property. It's that curiosity that ultimately brings them together.
First of all, so excited to have more Dino shifter romance. I can’t express how much I love it.
Craving the Carnivore by Kelex This story was great! It felt like the lead up to something that could be a seriously amazing series. Please please please can we have more in this world?!
A Dept Repaid by Maz Maddox Freaking adorable… need I say more?
Jason and Landry's story I found to be quite cute! The way they met definitely gave off enemy to lovers vibes, I adored how sassy and strong-headed Jason's character is. While there was low-key stalking, it worked out in the end, yes given the nature of what Landry is. I found that component to be really unique as well! I loved how his species was explained, how Davidson combined both fiction with some reality too, that was really intriguing! I love the fated mates trope, and I thought Davidson King wrote it very well, I liked how the characters waited a bit before fully binding their lives to each other. It drew out the story a bit longer, and gave us more time with the characters.
Craving The Carnivore by Kelex; Rating, 4
I liked this story, I loved how Avi's character is so quirky, and he's so passionate about his research. Even after seeing something he thought wasn't possible, he didn't let Erik try to persuade him otherwise. I liked that Avi took matters into his own hands, and got proof that what he saw was real.
The concept of Erik being the protector of his world where other dino shifters roam free, and hunt actual dinosaurs, was a very unique concept. I've never read anything like it before, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. These two definitely compliment one another, this was a great story.
The Dinostore by Kiernan Kelly; Rating, 4
I've never read anything by this author before and I quite enjoyed their writing. Vic owns his own mini dino boutique, which is such a cool concept, I found that to be a really neat component of this story. Especially because that shop is where most of the story takes place. I liked how we got to know how Vic runs his shop, and his rules on who he'll sell dinos to. I thought that was quite interesting. Bron being a breeder of mini dino's was so fitting, and it was a really cute way to tie these characters together. I loved the details that were used to describe Vic's dinosaur form! I wish we got to see a glimpse of what they were discussing at the end of the book, but despite that, another terrific story!
Dino love and Alpha Knots by Kota Quinn; Rating, 5 This story is absolutely adorable! I really appreciated how we got so much background on Seela's character, we knew why he joined the PITA, we found out why he wasn't apart of a pack, and we got to learn about a different species of dinosaurs! I adored Reese's character, the fact that he was a baker made everything so much better! I wish we got a scene where he was baking and going through that process, but that didn't detract from the story. I loved how Kota wrote the fated mates aspect! The fact that Reese started morphing into a Coelophysis himself, was so interesting! I loved that part, it really made Severo and Reese's story stand out.
Toeing the Line by MZ Arthur; Rating, 3.5
This story conceptually was great! I liked the idea of a fossil being discovered in some place unusual. Especially considering said fossil was only 80 years old, not 800 million. I thought that the premise was there, I enjoyed the concept. I could see where the author was going with this story, and where they were trying to take it. I just think the pacing is what kind of detoured that track. I found the story to be drawn out, which in itself would've been fine! However, once the characters reached that cataclysmic event, the story ended. I felt like if the story had been longer, it would've made a more rounded and conclusive story.
Grow A Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie;rating, 4
August and Dante's story was very cute! I liked how August's character was curious about the creature that was sighted but not because he wanted to capture a picture of it, he just wanted to know if something bigger than himself existed. And he found out that out and more when he met Dante. Dante being a bartender and a dino shifter was really clever, him being a bartender would mean he would be able to keep up to date on what the latest news was, along with knowing where people would be.
I liked the way their relationship developed, it was more of a insta-burn, but it was done in a way that fit. I liked how August wrote songs specifically for Dante. I wish we had gotten more info on how Spinosaurus's carry their young. Dante mentioned that they lay eggs, but how would that work with August? So, it was briefly mentioned but not really discussed afterwards.
A Boy Called Blue by JP Sayle; rating, 3
From the title I should have gathered that this was going to be about a daddy/boy pairing. However, I was not expecting it, and as I don't particularly enjoy that trope myself, this story fell a bit flat for me. I love the creativity JP has though, I mean, a potato shifter? That's completely new and I don't think has ever been done before. So for the uniqueness alone, it gets high marks for me. I just didn't enjoy it as much as the other stories. If you do like the daddy/boy trope, this story is definitely going to be the one for you!
The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton; rating, 4.5
This one had me hooked from the beginning! I was so entranced by both Austyn and Tate's character, I was eager to learn and discover more. There's a mystery that shrouds Austyn, throughout the story we learn and discover more about. Just like with Tate's character, there is more to meet the eye. I liked how these two were awkward, and made each other blush on occasion, and kept dancing around each other. I found that to be really cute. The dinosaur aspect I thought was handled very well! I'm very curious about what Walter is now up to after certain events took place. "Two dinosaurs from different worlds. Different periods. A Troodon and a Brachiosaurus together. Forever."
Mikel's Mage by Annie Taylor; rating, 4
This story was really cute! Mikel's character likes causing a bit of trouble, he enjoys pranking the people who cause him the most harm, and he uses his magic in his own way. After the elders decides to punish him, he's reunited with his best friend..only he's not exactly human.
I thought the concept of there being someone who is both a mage and a dino shifter was really interesting. I found there to be a lot of details bring described, and while this book is on the shorter side, there is a bunch of backstory that gets told. Indy's character is the calm to Mikel's ferociousness, I enjoyed reading about how they balanced each other out, and how he wouldn't let Mikel get away with talking poorly about himself. This book was really creative, and I love the lost friends to lovers aspect that happened!
His Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz; rating, 5
I haven't read books by this author before, but after reading this story, I have to look into what else they have written. The way they wrote both Damien and Hudson's characters made them so realistic, and relatable. The amount of details that went into describing Damien's incantation that went wrong, along with describing his Triceratops form, was impeccable. All of those little details really helped provide a clear idea of what was going on. I enjoyed the little snark and banter that occured, Damien's character was hilarious. Yes, he was stuck in a form he didn't intend to be, but he took it in stride. The fated mates component was handled well! I liked the concept of them both feeling a pull once they were near one another, and I thought that them having a mental connection to one another right away was really interesting. I wish we had gotten a scene with Damien in his Triceratops form, and Hudson in his Dragon form, but other than that, this story was really great!
The Alberto Effect by Nikki Prince; Rating, 3
I.. wasn't as big of a fan of this story, unfortunately. It just felt a bit disjointed and disconnected to me. I think I know where the author was trying to go, as far as Alberto and Jameson have a past together. However, I just felt like things didn't have a nice flow, and that things were a bit off. Alberto swore up and down that he would never be in a relationship, but then after hooking up with Jameson, he changed his tune. It just felt rushed to me.
Jurassic Park by Pandora Pine; rating, 4
This book was good! I thought that the characters were well written, the pacing was very nice, there were some surprises that occured which made the story even more interesting. Cooper's character was a big surprise! I was not expecting him to be.. what he ended up being. Gibson's character was great, I liked how he was so passionate about discovering fossils.
The Saurian's Bargain by April Andrews; Rating, 4
I found this book to be very interesting! The premise of Jora's people going into the wilderness to find a golden egg, then return it to the village to bring them luck, was very interesting! I liked how not everything was as it seemed, and that there was much more to the story than what was originally assumed. Jora and the Saurian was really interesting, I liked how they were so different from each other, and how the Saurian taught Jora about the things he did not know.
I wish that we got a chapter where we saw how Jora, Alis, and the Saurian worked together as a couple. I think that would've been cool to see that, especially cause it mentioned.
A Debt Repaid by Maz Maddox; rating, 5
I loved this story! It's full of adorable cuteness! I loved how despite Zack not knowing what type of animal he was rescuing, he was still determined to help the little guy who was trapped. I liked how the scenes were written of Zack caring for Ru, and how he got Ru out of the wiring he was trapped in. The way Zack discovered Ru was more than just an animal was a bit humorous! I loved that Maz added a bit of humor to the story! These characters are so cute together, and I'm glad they found each other. It would've been amazing to get a chapter on Zack meeting Ru's family, but overall this book was fantastic!
Fossil beds bed & breakfast by Siobhan Muir; rating, 4
I adored the fact that this is an FF story, it's really cool that this one was different than all the others. The aspect of Maya owning her own B&B and adopting kids was really cute, and special! The manner in which Persia and Maya met was during a time of stress, but one that ultimately ended successfully. I found the scene where they shifted together to be very sweet. They worked together to scare away the troublesome humans, and had each other's babk through it all. Then surprise surrounding Maya's kids was a huge shock, but a very adorable one!
Overall this anthology is a terrific collection of a multitude of different stories, showcasing the wide variety of characters, along with the various types of dino shifters!!
(1) Jurassic Spark by Pandora Pine 4* Gibson + Cooper Both dinosaurs shifters One night stand
(2) Grow a Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie 4* August + Dante A composer in search of something « out there » A shifter bartender who feels a bit trapped by tourists trying to observe his dino form A whirlwind vacation romance leads to forever
(3) Fossil Beds Bed & Breakfast by Siobhan Muir FF - Skipped
(4) Jurassic Measures by Davidson King 4* Jason + Landry A tailor and designer A billionaire shifter who unexpectedly found his mate
(5) Toeing the Line by MZ Arthur 3* Matt + Rhys It ends way too abruptly IMO.
(6) Dino Love and Alpha Knots by Kota Quinn 5* Garrett + Reese A special agent Dino-shifter A baker who smells like peanut butter and chocolate and he’s named… Reese
(7) The Alberto Effect by Nikki Prince 3.5* Alberto + Jameson Dino shifter and human pairing Second chance Quite a few typos in this one. Another round of proofreading would have done it.

(14) Craving the Carnivore by Kelex 4* Avi + Erik Two paleontologists of two different species and worlds.
(15) A Debt Repaid by Maz Maddox 4* Zack + Ru Yes, the infamous Ru who tricked the others in China.
Let me say first that I think you should definitely check this out and support some amazing charities.
But I was disappointed. There were very few stories I enjoyed. Most were just a total mess, and one was so bad I was concerned that I wasn’t reading the same anthology anymore. I guess I just expected so much more. Like, some of these almost came off as a joke.
But those are my unwanted opinions, and everyone is different and likes different things.
3/5. And that’s fairly generous for how much was jacked up. If you want my individual reviews, my notes are on Goodreads.
I was lucky to receive all sections of the arcs (pink, blue and green). Here is hoping that these books become longer.
Pink: Jurassic Measures by Davidson King Jason, is a tailor, who is at work when a gentleman comes in looking for a few suits. With his busy schedule, he was not able to accommodate him. When Landry asked him out, Jason went and had a good time. Landry eventually told him that he was a dinosaur shifter and Jason was his mate.
Craving the Carnivore by Kelex Avi is a palaeontologist and has been crushing on Erik for over a year. When Erik spoke to him, he dropped the stuff that he had in his arms and Erik was one of the people that helped him. Erik eventually told him he came from an alien world that scientists used to take the dinosaurs from Earth to bring there.
The Dino Store by Kiernan Kelly Vic, a dinosaur, owned a store that sold mini dinosaurs as pets. He was very happy with where he purchased them from. Bron is a salesperson who wanted to start his own breeding service for the mini dinos. When he came into Vic’s store, he was interested in him. This is their story of how they got together and started their business.
Dino Love and Alpha Knots by Kota Quinn Garrett, a Dino, works for the paranormal police. Reese owns the bakery where Garrett goes all the time to pick up some baked goods. I loved their meet cute and how they progressed with their relationship.
Toeing the Line by MZ Arthur’s Matt is a palaeontologist who is brought to Ireland as they discovered a dinosaur bone that was only 80 years old. Rhys, a Dino, owns the campground where the bone was discovered. This was a quick read where Matt discovered that Rhys was a dinosaur and asked him to shift. This was a cute one.
Green: The Alberto Effect by Nikki Prince Alberto was out with friends that had set him up on a blind date. When he sees Jameson, he was thrown back in time when they dated 5 years ago. Jameson always knew they were mates, but with what happened with Alberto’s parent, he was skittish. Loved how Alberto finally realized what they were to each other.
Jurassic Spark by Pandora Pine Gibson is a Palaeontologist and a dinosaur shifter. He met someone who made his dinosaur come out. When he met his benefactor the next day, he realized that Cooper was the one. Cooper was also a palaeontologist and a dinosaur shifter as well and asked to go on his dig as well. They quickly realized that they were mates as well.
The Saurian’s Bargain by April Andrews Jora was tasked by his village to head to the mountains to get the golden egg that will bring prosperity to their village. His best friend, Alis, went with him as far as he could go. When Jora went as high as he could go, he was darted by what he called a Saurian. As he explained to Jora all that went on, he decided to go and get his friend and bring him back.
A Debt Repaid by Maz Maddox Zack is on a nature vacation when he runs into a little bird that he called Cutie all tangled up in wire. After getting him free, he brought him back and took care of him. When he woke up the next morning, he met Ru who explained to him that he was the bird. Loved it.
Fossil Beds B & B by Siobhan Muir Maya is a Dino shifter who adopted a couple of children, who are now teenagers. When her daughter came to her saying that a developer wanted to build a resort, her family and many others in the town and university came to block the plans. There she meets Persia who is also a prehistoric dinosaur and they hit it off. Loved this story and how it led to their relationship.
Blue: Grow a Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie August is a songwriter and went to a small town as he heard there was a person who videotaped a fin in the water. He went to the bar at his hotel and met Dante, the bartender. They hit it off and got together. After a couple of days, Dante let August know he was a dinosaur. August was surprised and took it well. I loved how their relationship grew to wear August stayed.
A Boy called Blu by JP Sayle Trike is a dinosaur living in a wolf town. After visiting the local bar, he heard on the television that potato shifters were revealed. Per his dinosaur, he had to visit Potatoville. When close, he met Blu who was a potato shifter and his mate. Loved their relationship and how they got together while meeting Blu’s brothers.
The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton Tate has been visiting Austyn’s clothing shop as he has a crush on him. Austyn is a dinosaur shifter who goes and helps humans who have the shifter gene. Tate is one of them. Loved how both of them helped to protect each other when taken by a baddie.
Mikel’s Mage by Annie Taylor Mikel was in a lineup with his cousins when he performed a spell to have the people think they have ants crawling on them. When he is caught, he is turned into a t-Rex and brought to a jungle. After 2 weeks, he hears his ex bodyguard Indy there to help him. After letting Mikel know what is going on, they are able catch the baddies at his coven with the help f his mates boss.
His Triceratops Mate by Katy Manz Poor Damien, wanting to be a wolf shifter, when his spell went wrong. Hudson works for the GSC and is tasked to help him out. What a way to meet your mate. Loved how the spell was reversed. Also love there is an epilogue 6 months later.
I read 5 of the stories in the Cretaceous Crushes Charity Anthology and enjoyed all of them. Since these are short novellas my one hope is that the authors will turn them into longer books as I’d love to see what happens next to their characters.
Grow a Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie This is a sweet story between 2 men who aren’t looking for love but find it. August is a songwriter who travels the world looking for interesting places to visit and to write about. He goes to a small coastal town because he heard about a sea creature sighting and just wants to find out if it’s real, not to make money off of pictures if he sees it. He meets Dante, a bar tender and they hit it off, talking and getting to know each other which then leads to some hot love scenes. When Dante knows that August truly cares and can be trusted he shows him that he is a spinosaurus and August is thrilled. They decide to stay together and build a life full of love. This is a wonderful short story without much angst where attraction leads to trust and love and you are rooting for them every step of the way. 5 stars
A Boy Called Blu by JP Sayle This is one of the most unique shifter books I have ever read. Trike is a deinonychus shifter who has very interesting conversations with his dinosaur. He hears about potato shifters and has to see them for himself so he travels to Potatoville. Blu is one of those shifters who longs for a Daddy and when his father tells him to conform to their standards or else, he leaves. He meets Trike on the road and they instantly know they are mates and act on this in some very unusual love scenes. But they want to make their forever bond and in order to find out how to do this they go to where Blu’s brothers are living with their wolf mates. When they find out the process it is a doozy and even though it takes a while, they get their mate bond. This story kept me enthralled as the premise is so unusual. It’s a story I would love to see continued in a longer book as there are some things that aren’t resolved in the story and I want to find out what happens. 5+ stars
The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton Austyn Burkes owns and runs a clothing store for dinosaur shifters so their clothes don’t disintegrate when they shift. He is also a lethal Troodon dinosaur and considered “the dinosaur whisperer” because he helps humans make their first shift after their dinosaurs have been hibernating and now want to come out. Tate Goodman is a big, sweet cinnamon roll of a man (and an interesting dinosaur) that Austyn is lusting after, but trying to keep his feelings under control and he has been visiting his store. When he seeks Austyn’s help he realizes he is not human but a dinosaur. Mr. Jacobs is the head of their group that has mafia overtones and when Austyn and Tate are sent to his compound he realizes he wants Tate’s dinosaur and expects Austyn to bring him out. This leads to a sweet love scene as they spend the night together, but things happen that stifle what Mr. Jacobs wants and in the end they get away with the help of “pirate” Walter. This story has some suspense to it and leaves on a happy for now cliffhanger that I hope Ms. Sutton will continue in another book as it kept me on the edge of my seat and I’d like to know what will happen next. 5 stars
Mikel’s Mage by Annie Taylor Mikel was a mage who was ridiculed for the way he used his magic. He was loud and proud, liking men, and he was a prankster. All of these things did nothing to endear him to his family or the elders. Then a final prank sent him to an island surrounded by magic as a terrifying dinosaur. He wandered for a week and was then found by Indy, another mage, who had been by his side as he grew up but then disappeared as Mikel was sent to a horrible school. Mikel never forgot him as he always encouraged him to be himself. Indy was able to help him shift back to his human form and once he found out about his real background and upbringing, they were able to bring those in charge to justice and find their love together and express it in a hot love scene. This book has some suspense as you don’t quite know what is going to happen next as clues about Mikel are slowly brought forth until you understand why he is the way he is. It also has some humor, especially when Mikel and Indy talk through their bond. 5 stars
His Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz Damian is an omega witch and the son of the Alpha of his pack. He can’t shift into a wolf so he makes up a spell to try to be one. Unfortunately it turns him into a triceratops and no one can figure out how to reverse the spell. They finally call in the Global Shifter Council who sends Hudson, a dragon, and another agent. When they meet they instantly know they are fated mates but still can’t figure out how to get Damian back in his human form. Finally his brother has discovered something they might try and it works. Then Hudson and Damian are able to really be together which leads to a hot love scene and a surprise. This is a fluffy story with a fun premise and a happy ending for all. 5 stars
As a whole, I am quite dissapointed, I am sorry to say. Ratings all over the place, everything, 1.5-4★. There are some good stories in here, some nice ones, but the majority was not up to par. Shockingly enough, some of the stories I rated the lowest and liked the least, were by established authors, not new or debut ones. I expected better, especially after reading the statements in the foreword and introduction to this anthology. Some stories felt downright like the authors were showing disregard toward their own work, just putting something down on paper, not even re-reading or correcting anything. With more than one story I felt let down by the quality in regards to grammar, wording and beta-reading. And I am not even a native speaker. It might come with my loose background in publishing, but some stories in here were kind of hurtful to get through, in that regard. I seem to be the odd one out here after looking at other reviews, even mentioning this, so maybe it is really a thing of perception or overlooking certain things for the sake of other more positive aspects. Same with favorite stories. Some reviews go in the complete opposite direction, while others liked the same ones as me. It is always funny how different people can look at something. Makes life interesting. Or frustrating...
Jurassic Spark - Pandora Pine ★★ I did not like the writing. Too crude and rough in some parts, too simple and superficial in others. Yes, it is a shortstory, which many authors are not the strongest at, but in comparison, this was a really weak one. This was a new to me author but an established one and I am going to try something novel lenght by her in the future, but if it is like this... We'll see.
Grow a Spinosaurus - RS. McKenzie ★★+ A bit better. Also a NTM author. But, also not too encouring. Maybe I' ll still try something longer. Not bad, but not good or really memorable either.
FOSSIL BEDS BED & BREAKFAST - Siobhan Muir ★★++ I did not realise - this Anthology is mixed, because it was only tagged as M/M & LGBT on GR, so I did not anticipate this. My fault. So an F/F story it is, which I normally don' t read. It was okay, actually quite a bit better than story 1 & 2, but at the same time still a bit too boring. Some nice scenes though, the narrative was good and no complaints about the writing. Overall nice, just not my prefered genre.
JURASSIC MEASURES - Davidson King ★★★★ Now this was entertaining and lively; fun to read. Even though it's as much insta as the previous stories, the mood here is so different. It was neither boring nor did it feel like it was just coughed up. Both characters are quirky and even in these few pages they ooze personality. Obviously one of the few authors who CAN do good shortstories.
Toeing the Line - MZ Arthur ★★★ This now was entertaining in regards of banter and an interesting premise, just a real connection was missing for me. Sexual tension and attraction maybe, bantering yes, chemistry and emotional connection, not so much. I did not see it. BUT, it was a fun read, colorful. A promising start. If she can do shortstories so well, I am looking forward to what something longer might look like.
Dino Love and Alpha Knots - Kota Quinn ★+ NTM author, but not a new author; there are a bunch of published books showing up on her GR page. So I don' t know if it is the shortstory bug or not, I' ll have to try at least one longer book to see, but ... I am sorry to say, already the start was weak. No tension, just 'boom', here we are, right in the middle. Call my mate, present him to me on a plate. Too little background, nearly no information, more telling than actually showing anything. Transitions between scenes and changing locales were very rough and thus disrupting. No clean structure and wrong word classes or words were used or words were missing. Jumping between referenced people and changing tenses. Unfortuately, the problems were consistent throughout the story. This one, story and author, solely based on this example, still need a lot of work; the story needed a second or third beta reader, badly, both in regards of narration and formal aspects. And this is an established author, so I am a bit wary to try something else. It was hard getting into it and I could not enjoy this. On the plus side I can see a quirky mind behind all this with a thousand ideas spinning around. It just did not translate well onto paper this time. Either this was a fluke ( hope so), an example for disregard and just putting something down (hope not) or a representation of their other work (oh dear). At this point I am not sure if I want to try again and find out.
THE ALBERTO EFFECT - Nikki Prince ★★★- A bit shaky but overall okay. Second chance with a late epiphany. This I would not mind reading in a longer, more fleshed out version. I think it was a bit much content for this lengh, because it felt a bit muted, but I liked it. But, even here, more than one missing word.
The Dinostore - Kiernan Kelly ★★- So anticlimatic. Why use an intiguing setting and idea at all if you go for this and use it in no way? The beginning, after the introdunction, kind of felt like PWP, with the meeting and the rushed sex. One scene, wrapped in an illogical background, camouflaging as story. It could have been so cute in so many different ways, funny, interesting, but isn't. And then it is followed up by what should finally have been the cute (second) meeting and getting to know each other, the PWP beginning could have been overlooked in that case. But no, it feels just like a scene of nonesense, like an afterthought, a lost oportunity. Awkward.
MIKEL’S MAGE - Annie Taylor ★★★++ So few pages for such a big story. In comparison, this was good! It was engaging, lively, witty. Mikel and Indy are a good fit. This story could easily be lenghened, maybe not into a full novel, I am not sure that would not feel too drawn out due to the timeline, but defintely a long novella. Well done, this author really took time and created a story with plot and background.
THE SAURIAN’S BARGAIN - April Andrews ★★★ A very different take on the theme than the other stories so far. I liked it but due to the shortness, the potential was a bit lost. It read more like a prologue than a finished story. That's not necessarily a bad thing, here is plenty of background in these few pages. If the author played around with this a bit, added the continuation of story and the formation of a relationship between them all, and maybe a bit social context with the tribes, I'd buy this in novel lengh, as long novella or a sequel to this.
A BOY CALLED BLU - JP Sayle / # Weird & Wacky Shifters ★★(+) Okay. Soo, this anthology came to life because someone said dino shifters had no place on MM romance, yes? So I won't say something like that, but... potatoes? Something with no brain, nervous system or sentience, that dies if not enrooted and watered? And...it wriggles? And there may be more books, according to the side characters that appear? I just can't compute. Blu and his Daddy Trike are sweet, but I just can't get onto the potato train. My brain always went to the scientific questions, plant vs animal instead of seeing the fun aspects. Maybe if it was something like "Audrey", but a little blue cut off potato with potato powers... I... am lost for words. JP Sayle is a NTM author, I'd have to thoroughly research any further books first, before trying anything more in regards to the themes. This was not for me, not my kind of humor. But, the writing was all right and the ideas are obviously not boring.
In regards to formal things, the preface says the author is JP Sayle, while the following "about the author" listed DK Sutton. And it was not a mix-up, because DK Sutton's later story lists Sutton as well. Nowhere an "about the author" portrait of JP Sayle to be found in here. It's as if nobody proofread this after sticking the stories together.
HIS TRICERATOPS OMEGA - Katy Manz / #GSC in Love ★★★ Those, who can do shortstories well, normally do good novels. I have hope! NTM author, so I have to look up some other books by this one. This was very nice, even though it is not as detailed and in depth as I'd have liked. The whole getting to know part is missing, talked about but not shown. Therefore, we have just the meet-cute and afterburn, which was a bit dissapointing. I'd have gladly cut the sex for a bit more of the story.
THE DINO WHISPERER - DK Sutton ★★ Nice, but despite this having action elements and suspense, it was a bit boring. Seems like a contradiction, but it is how it felt to me. Also I don't understand how or why they explicitly picked Tate for their experiment, desperately wanting especially him and only him. Why? If they did not even know his shifter classification? Every shifter would do in that case, right!? It makes no sense.
CRAVING THE CARNIVORE - Kelex ★★★+ Ah, a good one again. A nice balance between storyline, relationship and background, especially for a shortstory. It works in this form, but I imagine, it would easily work as a novel as well. I am just missing a real connection between the MC's and towards them. While I enjoyed the world building and narrative overall, the way they are shown together, I can't completely see it. I see attraction, but on page there was not enough for me to see them longterm, the spark was missing. But this is just my subjective emotional gut reaction, maybe if it was longer... The story was entertaining, that's what matters.
A DEBT REPAID - Maz Maddox ★★★- Sigh. This started out as cuteness personified, I could've read on and on. And then it stopped, and this author too fell into the darn "have to add sex" trap. And it crushed the whole story, overwhelming it.
This anthology is taken out of print already it seems, published in March, gone by now, in July. 5 months or less, as I am only now getting around to read my KU- borrowed copy, and am not sure when it was taken down. I suppose, we'll see some or most stories appear in the following months as re- published single editions. Some hopefully after some intense editing.
There are 15 short stories in the anthology. A few new-to-me authors, but a lot of the stories are by authors I love reading. Not every story was a 'I wish this was longer' or "I wish this was a series', but I enjoyed the majority of them.
Kelex's Craving the Carnivore. A fated mates story, it mixes dino shifters, aliens and paleontologists. Original storyline, it has excellent worldbuilding and a HFN ending. The MCs have a hot chemistry.
April Andrews' The Saurian's Bargain is set on a world that has humans living on one side of a valley and dinosaurs on the other. Between them are the Saurians, golden half human/half dinosaur hybrids. Original, well described world building. Two heroic, sexy MCs with nice chemistry.
Maz Maddox' A Debt Repaid was quite original. Zack, the human MC, rescues a cute, batlike creature who is really dinosaur shifter, Ru. Well written, quick witted, quirky characters. A Maddox staple. Fun to read.
Siobhan Muir is a new-to-me author. Their Fossil Beds, Bed & Breakfast is a well written, sensual, slow burning story about defeating big business expanding into archeological sites. Reading it, I thought it was another Maddox story, because I could see this fitting very well in the R.E.L.I.C world. I will definitely be reading more Muir in the future.
Kota Quinn's Dino Love and Alpha Knots is a sweet fated mates alpha/omega love story. A Coelophysis and his omega baker. Short, quick read. One that would make a great book 0.5 if Quinn was thinking series. I'd read it.
DK Sutton's The Dino Whisperer ends on a cliffhanger with a HEA for the main characters. Action packed with a villainous mobster-like dinosaur, nice bit of worldbuilding, and a sweet, innocent newbie dinosaur. Loved the secondary character of Walter. Once again, series?
Annie Taylor's Mikel's Mage would also be a good series starter. Another new-to-me author, I found this gem to be less a 'dinosaur' book and more a 'mage-who-is-a-dino-shifter' story. Maybe a little stretch to fit the anthology's parameter, but I really enjoyed this rescue/second chance story.
Katy Manz's His Triceratops Omega is another story more witchy than dino. A Global Shifter Council short, a witch tries to give himself a wolf half, but ends up as a triceratops. And gets stuck. GSC sends a dragon/witch alpha to aid the witch's coven/pack. A sweet alpha/omega, fated mate story. Extremely short.
Kiernan Kelly's The Dino Shop is an original and interesting premise. The aliens that seeded the Earth with dinosaurs, return millennia later, to find humans in charge of the Earth. They repopulate the Earth with dinos, in miniature. The MCs are a dino breeder/salesman and a shop owner. Great worldbuilding. A really entertaining story.
MZ Arthur's Toeing the Line is about an eighty year old toe bone of a herbivore found on the coast of Ireland. A paleontologist tries to convince a holiday camp owner to allow a dig, but the owner is a dino shifter and wants nothing to do with it. A quick, quirky read.
Davidson King's Jurassic Measures is a fated mates story. The MCs are funny with a pleasurable chemistry. Lots of good humor. Sweet and sexy.
RS McKenzie's Grow a Spinosaurus: Dante, a Spinosaurus shifter/bartender, goes out for a nighttime swim, gets seen and caught on a cell phone video. It causes a sensation, bringing a lot of 'spring break' people. August, a songwriter, wants to see if it's true. This is a fated mate, 'will-he-accept-my-shifter' story. Kind of sweet.
Pandora Pine's Jurassic Spark is a fated mates story between two paleontologists with dinosaur sides. They meet at a paleontology conference. A drunken loss of control reveals one paleontologist's beast. It's an extremely short story, the reveal leads to a HEA.
Nikki Prince's The Alberto Effect is a second chance/fated mates story between a dino shifter, Al, and the human who loves him, Jameson. A bit too angsty for me. 'I'm a jerk because I had a lousy childhood' doesn't work for me. I found the secondaries to be a better fit.
JP Sayles A Boy Called Blu is about dino and potato shifters. Sayles is an excellent author. Great worldbuilding. Interesting character. I'm very familiar with their Enchanted Ink stories. And I prefer to leave it that way. . I received an advance copy of this book and this is my review.
This anthology has lots of wonderful authors. Some that I knew and some new to me. I received a complementary ARC from an author and I am voluntarily leaving this review. The ARC version I received was the Blue version so I didn't received the entire book. Each time I read a story I thought, this is my favourite. Then I would read the next story and think, no this is my favourite. These are very well written novellas that you are sure to enjoy. The stories I read are as follows:
1. Grow a Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie - A fun well written story about August and Dante. August is a songwriter who is visiting a siting location because he wants to believe that there is something more to life than he has seen so far. He isn't like all the money hungry fools who want to exploit a siting. Dante is an accountant who made the career change to bartender. The two instantly connect when they meet. Vacations are the time for surprises. Learning that you new love is Spinosaurus is next level.
2. A Boy Called Blu by JP Sayle - This story is fun and takes your imagination for a ride. Trike is a dinosaur shifter who lives in his motorhome while trying to find where he belongs. In a bar he hears a story about Potatoville and how vegetable shifters are showing up. Trike's dinosaur wants to got to Potatoville. Blu is a potato shifter that has been just thrown out of his home by his dad because Blu wants a daddy/boy relationship. Just outside town Trike picks up a hitchhiker, Blu. Both of their lives are going to change because they are mates. Another fun story.
3. The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton. This one is a cute love story. Austin Burkes is known as the dino whisperer. When dino shifters have trouble shifting, he is the person to call. Tate is a Brachiosaurus but no one knows because he is afraid to shift. Tate is clumsy and is afraid that he will accidentally hurt people. When they end up in a fight for their lives, Austin turns into a 65 million year old Troodon. Life just got very interesting for the happy couple.
4. Mikel's Mage by Annie Taylor. I enjoyed this novella and finding a new to me author. This is the story of Mikel Tourney and Indiana Croxley. Mikel's coven has put a spell on him and transformed him into a T-Rex. Then they left him on an isolated island to try and survive. Indy is a mage who has come to help him as soon as he heard about the punishment. Indy and Mikel knew each other years earlier when Indy was Mikel's bodyguard. I like the twists and surprises that come up. This was well written and easy to read.
5. Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz. Another new to me author that I really enjoyed. This is the story of Damien and Hudson. Damien is a witch and an omega. He has accidentally turned himself into a Triceratops. When the coven can't reverse the spell, the Global Shifter Council is called. Hudson is an alpha dragon shifter and agent of the GSC. The surprise comes for both of them when they realize that they are mates immediately upon meeting. Getting Damien back to his normal form becomes that much more important. Another fun story to enjoy.
This is a great Anthology. The stories are well written and easy to read. A great way to experience new to you authors. I really enjoyed this book.
It's been a while since I finished this anthology, and I just realized I never reviewed it. Unfortunately, I also don't remember a ton about the individual stories, but I did note my star ratings and a few other minor notes while reading, so here they are for my own future reference re: my feelings about these authors' work (and ofc for anyone else to whom it might be helpful!):
🚫 JURASSIC SPARK by Pandora Pine --- Skipped (blurb doesn't interest me; this author hasn't worked for me in the past)
👍 GROW A SPINOSAURUS by RS McKenzie ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 STARS. Very sweet. 🥰
🚫 FOSSIL BEDS BED & BREAKFAST by Siobhan Muir --- Skipped (F/F; not interested)
🚫 JURASSIC MEASURES by Davidson King --- Skipped (blurb doesn't interest me; this author hasn't worked for me in the past)
👎 TOEING THE LINE by MZ Arthur ⭐⭐ 2 STARS. This is a new-to-me author and I was actually enjoying the story (at about a 4-star level) until it abruptly ended with not only no HFN/HEA, but literally in the middle of a scene, right before the characters had shifted sex. For that insult alone, it dropped to a 2-star read for me and left me just flat-out irritated.
👍 DINO LOVE AND ALPHA KNOTS by Kota Quinn ⭐⭐⭐ 3 STARS.
🚫 THE ALBERTO EFFECT by Nikki Prince --- Skipped (blurb doesn't interest me; not a fan of the second-chance trope in general and no history that I can remember with this author)
👎 THE DINOSTORE by Kiernan Kelly ⭐⭐⭐ 2.5 STARS, rounded up. This one started cute and had a fun, different premise, but then, from the moment the characters meet onward, the writing devolved into something so amateurish that it was almost painful to read. 😬
👎 MIKEL'S MAGE by Annie Taylor ⭐⭐ 2 STARS. Technically this was a DNF for me since I skipped the last chapter/sex chapter, but honestly, I can't see it adding anything to what I'd already made it through. This one was just a hot jumbled mess. Too much story attempted by the author for the length of it, IMHO. Plus the squig factor of Indy lusting after Mikel when he was still a teen...? 🤢 Hard pass.
🚫 THE SAURIAN'S BARGAIN by April Andrews --- Skipped. I actually think I just missed this one? I might actually go back and read it. If I do, I'll update this accordingly. Although the blurb makes it sound like it might be PWP, which I'm not really in the mood for. We'll see 🤷♀️
👍 A BOY CALLED BLU by JP Sayle ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 STARS. This was such a pleasant surprise! Totally adorable. I almost skipped it because this author hasn't really worked for me in the past, but I'm so glad I didn't. 🥰
🚫 HIS TRICERATOPS OMEGA by Katy Manz --- Skipped (blurb doesn't interest me; no history with this author)
👍 THE DINO WHISPERER by DK Sutton ⭐⭐⭐ 3 STARS.
🚫 CRAVING THE CARNIVORE by Kelex --- Skipped. (not an author I've enjoyed in the past)
👍 A DEBT REPAID by Maz Maddox ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 STARS. OMG... adorable! 🥰
5 Stars❤️This is only a small sample of what's installed in the anthology which I loved after receiving an advance reader copy. Beautifully written stories with an unique theme of dinosaurs in all shapes to find their mates. I can’t wait to read to full book once it releases.
Jurassic Measures by Davidson King
Jason, 33 years, and has taken over the family tailoring shop from his father in emotional scenes. Now a year later, Jason gets an unwanted customer to the shop.
Landry needed some suits for a gala which he was desperate for. A great first meeting between them as there's a fire simmering happening for them, I had to laugh at Landry’s attempt at a dinner date with Jason’s reply. I think Jason’s world is about to get upended in a big way, Landry is persistent for sure. Lots of emotion I had while reading this one from sad, laughter, intrigued, acceptance and love for a HEA.
2. Craving The Carnivore by Kelex
Dr Avi was a research scientist for fossils who was crushing on Dr Erik, who didn’t notice him one bit while at work. Avi was a loner who had a tendency to cause accidents and worked too much. But the latest accidents lead to something extraordinary for Avi and maybe find love while he was at it. Avi discovers a hidden world…I reckon he'd make a excellent detective. Erik was standoffish at the start but as I'd read he has a very good reason too. I loved the ending of this.
3. The DinoStore by Kiernan Kelly
Vic owned a dino store and was a single shifter. Aww how cute would a baby dino be if they were real. Bron was a seller of the mini’s wanting to get his business off the ground. A great kismet meeting as the attractions heat up. A hot fast romance for them both with an HEA.
4. Dino Love and Alpha Knots by Kota Quinn
Seela was a special agent who'd just rescued a mated couple, leaving him wishing for his own mate.
Reese was a baker and was about to meet someone special, although he didn't know about yet. I loved the name of his bakery as the two officially meet. A fantastic ending with a little surprise. I loved the dual povs.
5. Toeing The Line by MZ Arthur
A new author read with this book for me which I enjoyed. Dr Matthew couldn’t believe they’d found a potential dino bone but a trip to Ireland would show proof of it, and more. But there's a catch with getting authorization of the land. Rhys was protective of his family's holiday park and he’d do everything to stop a dig. The two don't get along at first but things change when the secret is exposed. There’s lot of fire in this story between the characters. It ends in a cliffhanger and beautifully written.
This Anthology is a brilliant selection with authors imaginations weaving their stories into the land of Jurassic times and before. I’d definitely recommended this for the reading lists.
I received an ARC copy with 5 stories within the anthology. I will be honest, if it wasn't for the fact that a few of my favorite authors wrote stories in this anthology, I may have overlooked this. I am so glad I didn't. This is actually some of the best anthology stories I have read, and that's saying a lot considering this is not my usually genre of choice. Lets start off with the stories:
- Grow a Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie: What a great way to start this anthology! August and Dante were hot! August came to this small town to check out the mystery "dino" that appeared in the water. While sitting at his hotel bar, he meets Dante (his bartender for the night). Through conversation and getting to know each other closer, August and Dante realize that what they have is not like anything else they have had before. Is it enough to make August stay? Will Dante trust August enough not to break his heart and keep his secret? Short but sweet. This was the story that made me want to continue to the next, and I don't regret it.
- A Boy Called Blu by JP Sayle: A lone shifter is just passing through a town when he hears about a type of shifter that he had never heard of. He was intrigued and decided to head that way. What he comes across is Blu, and he is exactly what he heard about and more. This is probably the most surprising of the story, but definitely not one to miss.
- The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton: A shifter clothes maker helps dino shifters learn what they are and how to adjust while he makes them clothes that fit. When his next assignment ends up being someone he cares about, he doesn't know if he can go through training the normal way. When that choice is taken away, it is pretty obvious that something else is up and he may need to protect the one he cares about. Suspense, sweetness and a conclusion that makes you wanting more. I really hope this becomes a series, or at least gets a follow up story.
- Mikel's Mage by Annie Taylor: This story was probably the most emotional of the stories. When Mikel is punished for using his magic inappropriately, the council punishes him by turning him into a Tyrannosaurus Rex. With his arms so short, he can't use any magic. When Indy comes to find him and help Mikel break the spell, a lot of information is revealed to Mikel that changes everything. I loved this story. Just like above, I would love to see this continue as a series, or at least a follow up. I have so many questions, and I really want an update on Mikel and Indy.
- His Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz: When something went wrong, the person who came to help may be something more... but can't see you for you because you are stuck in a spell! It was so good! What a great way to conclude this small group of stories.
Overall, I can't rave enough, and that was just a small portion. I can't wait to read the rest!
Jurassic Measures A sweet mates story. I loved how Landry just kind of barrels in and then has to deal with Jason claiming he's a stalker and a jerk. Even if he still wants him.
Craving the Carnivore Avi is a wonderful hot mess. He is so cute thinking that Erik has no idea he exists or any reason to be interested in him. The Scifi aspect to this one was fun and I would love more from this world.
The Dinostore Sweet with a bit of instalove feel. The idea of mini pet dinos and breeding was clever and fun.
Dino Love and Alpha Knots Reese is adorable and oblivious but so accepting of Garrett's dino side, once he realizes Garrett is his mate.
Toeing the line I loved the mystery aspect of this one and the baffled paleontologists. Rhys and Matt's arguments just makes their smexy times hotter although I did wish for a bit more for the ending. And I loved all the bits on the differences of the language from American and Irish.
The Alberto Effect This is a 2nd chance story. Jay absolutely refuses to give up on his mate. I don't know if it was the world building or the 2nd chance but even though the romance was good I felt there was something of the world I was missing.
Jurassic Spark This was a total head smack meet cute. I sl3pt with my boss before I met him. But even with that, or because of it, Gibson and Cooper are perfect for each other.
The Saurian's Bargain This was a wonderfully imaginative fantasy world that felt almost primeval. Chosen for this adventure, Jora has to leave behind his family and Alis, his vest friend and more, to collect the golden egg for the village. But while the quest has challenges, they are not what he was led to believe. I was fascinated by this story but I really wanted an epilogue.
A Dept Repaid A touch of Florence Nightingale with a twist? While saving a bird/bat thing, Zack gets far more than he bargained for. I love Maz Maddox's Relic books and this was a great story from that world. Yes a short story, it was a great start for Ru and Zack. I can only hope we see more of them in future stories.
Fossil Beds Bed & Breakfast This was a great coming together story for 2 people that need and deserve someone special. While fighting off an entitled land developer, Maya and Persia find they have more in common than a love of fossils and a drive to protect their home.
Grow a Spinosaurus August and Dante have a really sweet insta-love as they work to protect Dante's secret from all the instagramer wanna bees.
A Boy Called Blu Dino-shifters and potato-shifters. This story that connects to a whole "field" of potato shifters had me snorting almost the whole read.
The Dino Whisperer This story comes off as the set up for a complex saga. Austyn helps dino shifters who are struggling to shift and Tate is certainly in need of help. Add in a mob boss and a crazy mini pirate and I can only hope the author chooses to share more of their adventures.
Mikel's Mage I really enjoyed the combination of dinos and magic. Mikel and Indy (and yes I loved that he is named Indiana) have a sweet yet action packed 2nd chance love story.
His Triceratops Omega Light and sweet, Hudson and Damien show that 1 mistake really can change your whole life, sometimes even for tge best.
Cretaceous Crushes is a collection of MM fantasy/paranormal romances, it features a number of MM authors that I love and is a charity collection. If you love shape shifters and witches (who are accidentally cursed or cursed on purpose), than this is a fun collection to get into, particularly if you love dinosaurs as well. All of these short stories are easy and fun - there are varying levels of action, spice/romance and danger. This was just a joy to read.
The collection includes the following stories: Grow A Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie - this is a sweet story, that follows the romance between a shifter who works as a song writer and is just out for a but of adventure, all because an unknown creature has been sighted in the waters off the coast. Meeting bartender tips the song writer's world upside down.
A Boy Called Blu by JP Sayle - this story is quirky fun and very unique, it features an ancient dinosaur alien that has been keeping to himself for a long, long, time. It also features vegetable shifters, specifically potato shifters and the concept to me is just wild.
The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton - this is a story with a bit of danger and mystery. It's a wild ride that kept me guessing, trying to figure out the ultimate intention of the bad guy, plus enjoying the romance that was happening despite misunderstandings and some lies.
Mikel's Mage by Annie Taylor - this story features a mage who is being punished by his coven for being "weak", placing him into the form of a dinosaur. But the mage isn't weak, and he also has a strong mate. This was a fun story that brought together two beings who otherwise would not be meeting.
His Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz - this story exists in the realm of Manz's GSC In Love series, although it can be read as a standalone without knowing the rest of the series. I've been loving the series, so this was the story in this collection I had most looked forward to. This is from an M-preg universe, so there are babies to be had as well. An accident prone mage meets a dragon shifter - however, before they can indulge in their mating there are a couple things that they need to deal with, one being that the mage is a triceratops.
This anthology gives reader a collection of stories from various authors. All the stories center around dinosaur shifters. These are the first dinosaur shifter stories that I have read. I enjoyed getting a chance to check some of the stories out and find some new authors. I was lucky enough to get to read an arc containing a few of the stories and was not disappointed.
Grow a Spinosaurus is a sweet story about two men who find an instant connection. I loved the way August and Dante find their way. The men make a good couple and it was nice to watch their relationship build. A Boy called Blu not only has a dinosaur shifter but a potato one as well. This was an interesting read and a bit strange when it comes to potato shifters. Trike and Blu are different as different can be but there is no denying the attraction that they have. Not only do the main characters stand out but the supporting characters also has a lot to say. The dino whisperer gives readers a good mix of romance and action. Austyn is hired to do what he thinks is just another job but soon things begin to become suspicious. As he tries to help Tate, they find that they must decide just who to trust. Tate is so sweet and I am glad he found his way to Austyn. Mikel’s mage adds a bit of magic to the story. Mikel is a mischievous young man and his latest prank lands him in more hot water than usual. Soon he gets help from an unexpected friend. Indy is back and ready to help Mikel in any way that he can if only Mikel will let him. I enjoyed watching these two reconnect and work together. His triceratops Omega brings the magic into this story. When Hudson is brought in to help with Damien’s predicament their lives are forever changed. It was nice to see their relationship build as they try to fix the problem. The two make a good couple and I enjoyed watching the two begin to build a relationship. These are fast paced and engaging reads that pulled me in right from the start. The authors have created fun and interesting worlds full of strong characters. Each of these stories is well written and I hope that we get to come back to these worlds in the future.
This is a fun anthology featuring our favorite dinosaurs getting their romance on.
Grow a Spinosaurus - RS McKenzie This one was cute, instant attraction. August travels the world writing songs, hoping to find proof that there's more to life. When he ends up in a small town where there's been a "monster" sighting, he falls fast for the playboy bartender with a big secret to hide.
A Boy Called Blue - JP Sayle Ok, this story has so much silliness regarding potato shifters, I super approved. It does start with some super heavy family angst though, so be warned. Trike's a lonely, ancient dino shifter who finally gets a whiff of where he can find his mate. Blue is on the run, hoping for some safety and a daddy.
The Dino Whisperer - DK Sutton Tate's a huge cinnamon roll worried about hurting people, Austyn is super strong but in over his head when he's taken into the enemy's custody. Plus there's a pirate. Tate's found himself struggling more and more to keep the monster inside of him hidden away. When he finally works up the courage to ask the hot clothing designer Austyn for help, it lands them both in a bunch of hot water.
Mikel's Mage - Annie Taylor Medium angst, super funny comments about T-rex arms, bad*ss magic users. Mikel has tried to be true to himself while living inside his coven's restrictive rules. His last mess up finds him stuck with no magic in his T-rex form, trying to survive in the jungle. His long-lost crush/bodyguard Indiana will have to come to his rescue.
His Triceratops Omega - Katy Manz Low angst romance, tiny bit of mpreg. Damien makes a mega mistake when casting a spell to become a wolf shifter, instead of becoming a wolf shifter he's stuck in triceratops form. But when the Global Shifter Council sends some agents to unravel the mess, he finds his fated mate at his doorstep.
A Debt Repaid - Maz Maddox I enjoy this author's dinosaur books already and this one didn't disappoint. I especially liked that it was a small bird-like dino. Zack is off on a vacation in the woods when he hears an animal in distress. When he saves the bat-like, bird-like, whatever sort of animal, he saves a handsome man.
Dinosaur shifters was a cool concept. I liked having such a variety of different short stories with this subject. I only read 5 of the stories, and I am providing my honest and voluntary review of the ones I received as a ARC. I would definitely be looking forward to reading the rest of the stories in this book, and plan to do so.
Grow a Spinosaurus - RS McKenzie I enjoyed this story. August is curious about a sea creature sighting, but not for fame or money; just curiosity of knowing what is in the big world. Dante, the bartender and said sea creature, is drawn to August because of his honesty and sweetness. This was a sweet short story, and I liked the personality of the main characters.
A Boy Called Blu - JP Sayle Honestly, I don't know what I just read. It definitely fit the sub heading of weird and wacky shifters. I'm all for fated mates and for shifters that might be outside of the typical type, but a potato was right at the edge of my limits. The writing wasn't awful, but I just shook my head at the mating scenes.
The Dino Whisperer - DK Sutton I loved this story. Tate is afraid of his dinosaur side, and Austyn is good at helping people transition and learn about dinosaur side. There was an awesome ending that was satisfying but wouldn't have me sad if there was more to come in the future. I liked these characters. This was my favorite of the 5 stories I read.
Mikel's Mage - Annie Taylor I really enjoyed this short story. Mikel and Indy are reunited after being separated for years by Mikel's horrible family. I loved watching Mikel become free and find happiness with Indy. I would love to read some more cool stories about their adventures together.
His Triceratops Omega - Katy Manz It was sweet, but despite being a short story, it felt a bit rushed. It wasn't my favorite of the ones I read, but it was still enjoyable.
My review is for ARCs of the stories by the following authors. Grow A Spinosaurus - RS McKenzie 5 stars This story was by an unknown author to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The instant attraction story of Dino shifter Dante and human August was sweet, lovely, low-angst with heat and a great ending. A Boy Called Blu - JP Sayle 4 stars I have read inter-species stories in the past, but nothing like this one. The story of Trike, a dinosaur shifter, and Blu a potato shifter, was well-written and intriguing, but parts of it were just a little too weird and wacky for me. The Dino Whisperer - DK Sutton 5 stars This was an intriguing story that kept me hooked from the beginning. Tate and Austyn are attracted to each other but neither realises that the other is a shifter until they are taken to meet with the local crime boss and are suddenly caught in a bad situation. Following their story was great, it had suspense, intrigue, heat and a lovely ending Mikel’s Mage - Annie Taylor 5 stars This was another enjoyable story from another new author to me. This second chance romance had fun and intrigue as Mikel reunited with his past crush Indy, and together they solved why his coven was treating Mikel the way they were. A great short story. His Triceratops Omega - Katy Manz 4.5 stars A sweet and fun story about Omega Damien when he doesn’t pay attention to the spell he cast, and its aftermath. Happily for him, Alpha Hudson comes to his rescue and saves the day. This was a fun, sweet story with a happy ending. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary section of this book.
A massive thank you to April Andrews for a (partial) ARC copy of Cretaceous Crushes! 💕
This is a charity anthology full of dinosaur romance… yes, you did read that correctly! My ARC copy covered the stories from April Andrews, Maz Maddox, Nikki Prince, Pandora Pine and Siobhan Muir and there were some truly fab stories!
April Andrews (MM)- A man is sent to retrieve a golden egg from a tribe of half human half dinosaurs; the price for the egg is not what he expected… Maz Maddox (MM)- Zach is hiding from the world in a rural cabin after splitting with his ex-boyfriend, when he finds a strange little dinosaur-like creature trapped in a fence. Imagine his surprise when the little creature turns into a beautiful man… Pandora Pine (MM)- a palaeontologist and a billionaire meet at a convention. Turns out a love of bones (ha ha) isn’t the only thing they have in common… Siobhan Muir (FF) - two dinosaur shifters team up to save their hometown from a billionaire developer who is trying to destroy a geological dig and turn the land into a luxury resort… Nikki Prince (MM) - Al and Jay get a second chance romance when Al, a dinosaur shifter and Jay, his human fated mate are being set up on a blind date…
If like me, you are obsessed with all things dino and you love a good shifter romance, I absolutely recommend you pick up this charity anthology - remember, it’s for an excellent cause!
🦖 Story: "Dino Love and Alpha Knots" by Kota Quinn 🦖 Book: Cretaceous Crushes Charity Anthology
🦖 Basically, whenever Kota says "Hey is anyone interested?" I shout "YES" and then proceed to read the whole thing in a day. I was asked to review her story, so that's what this is, but they were all SO good. They also made my husband ask why I had so many dinosaurs in my search history ☺️
🦖 Garrett Seela knows his fated mate is near, and that they go into a bakery that has become his favorite. Reese is a bakery owner and human Omega, and thinks the Alpha who comes into his store is there for business. He agrees to let Seela take him on a date, but an unexpected heat throws everything into high gear. No babies are made during this heat!
🦖 I would love to get a full length book with these guys. They're so sweet with one another, and the banter is top notch. I'd love to know more about their relationship and all the sweet treats they get into.
🦖 Other stories in the section I received include: 🦖 "Jurassic Measures" by Davidson King 🦖 "Craving the Carnivore" by Kelex 🦖 "The DinoStore" by Kiernan Kelly 🦖 "Toeing the Line" by MZ Author
Lil Blurb:

This anthology was so much fun to read with all the different characters and worlds! Growing a Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie was a sweet story about finding where you belong and trusting who you are with the one you love. A Boy called Blu by JP Sayle was quite unique with a potato shifter and a very old dinosaur. I loved how Blu stood up for himself and stayed true to who he was! He and Trike were quite cute and funny! Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton had some mystery, secrets, and lies that made it very interesting. Tate was such a sweetheart and I’m glad he had someone like Austyn looking out for him! Mikel’s Mage by Annie Taylor was a very sweet second chance romance. Poor Mikel had a terrible family trying to use him but at least he had Indy on his side to help him. His Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz was pretty cute with poor Damien making a colossal mistake turning him permanently while all the others are trying to find out what went wrong! Hudson comes in to help and discovers Damien is his mate. Very instant and cute! I loved how Damien’s brother was so sweet and helped them along! I appreciate getting a glimpse into these worlds and a couple new authors for me! The stories are quick but so enjoyable and I can’t wait to read the rest! This is my honest opinion of this complimentary copy of this book
I received a copy of the authors in the "Blue" ARC and I loved them all...see reviews for each below:
Grow a Spinosaurus by RS McKenzie...5 STARS
Dante and August...instant chemistry...loved it...sweet romance with spicy bits...sweeter HEA.
A Boy Called Blu by JP Sayle 5 STARS!!!
OMG...this was so out there but it was so FUN to read...potato shifter...really...YUP...I could have kept reading on...it was that interesting and entertaining...
The Dino Whisperer by DK Sutton 4 Stars
This was a delight...and filled with mystery and mayhem...a little mafia violence thrown in...some spicy parts but all in all sweet dino romance.
Mikal's Mage by Anne Taylor 4 Stars
Second chance romance with a little bit of age difference... Mikal's T-Rex had me LOL sometimes...with his complaining about his lil arms and off balance...he comes into his own, once his first love comes and rescues him...very nice romance with an even better HEA.
His Triceratops Omega by Katy Manz 4Stars
Fun romance with a little mating thrown in. Damien an omega witch accidentally turned himself in to a triceratops and Hudson an alpha witch comes to help reverse the spell ..both felt the pull and all hands on deck to help these two get to the mating...LOL...nice omega/alpha romance.
Grow a spinosaurus by R S McKenzie Little did August know a random stop at a bar would change his life forever. August with the dad bod said everything the hot bartender wanted to hear but feared it would never come to be. Will Dante have the courage to show his true self??
A boy called Blue by J P Sayle I found it inspirational that Blue wouldn't sacrifice his authentic self for his father's beliefs. Blue is a potato shifter and Trike is a Dino. The mating ritual was intense and not to be missed. Potato love ❤️
The Dino Whisperer by D K Sutton True love never runs smoothly. When these two creatures get together it's sizzling and the smoke came out of my kindle! Then a trap is sprung! Will they make it out alive to share a life together? Sweet heat and danger!!!
Mikel's Mage by Annie Taylor This was an emotional one for me. The reunion with an old friend and finding out the truth about Mikel's powers and his coven. A rollercoaster to the very end. I'm still swooning.
His Triceratops omega by Katy Manz Imagine getting stuck midshift. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry for Damien. Hudson found his mate midshift and still fell in love with him. See how it all works out. This was a very entertaining set of reads. Check it was.
