So good!
Broken Hearts is the second installment in the Silverbrook U Series and can be read as a standalone.
This is Cole Westbrook and Evangeline (Eva, Angel) Sinclair' story.
If you've read Broken Rivalry (SU #1), you are already aware that Cole and Eva share a past, a very difficult and tragic one that brought pain, suffering and a lot of hurt, in different ways for each one, but with the same intensity, a time that could have been beautiful (and it was for a short period) but turned out destructive and soul wrecking.
I absolutely loved their tale!
Angsty, emotionally impactant and with very small chances of a HEA, Cole is decided to get in the present what he had in the past and Eva to forget the most calamitous time of her existence and follow through with her life and healing.
This is a story about envy, jealousy and covetousness, its terrifying consequences, a misguided act of revenge, the almost hecathomb of a life, the loss of dreams, innocence and one' self.
Cole is a good guy at heart but wiling to touch the grey line of morality to get what he wants, explosive, cunning and completely obsessed with the only girl that got in his head and as deeply in his heart, he'll do anything to have her back in his arms, his bed, his life, forever.
He knows for a fact that he hurt Eva, he just doesn't know how profoundly, not understanding why she disappeared completly of their town and his life.
One year later, ready the claim her once and for all, he's not even shy or deterred about it.
Eva knows what cost her having trusted too much, loved too much and dreaming high. She lost it all, in a blink of an unfortunate moment that changed her life irreparably, almost, barely survived, but fights everyday for the best future she can achieve and the certainity of never again. She's happy being at College and with the best girls as roomates she could’ve ever wished for, but still reserved and secretive of her past.
Dramatically complex, active, reactive, behaviorally explosive at times, almost detached at others, the narrative unfolds step by step in a symbiotic dance between Cole's relenteless pursuit, dubious means of attainment, with all his might and heart against Eva's resolve to keep her barriers strong and unyelding, stay clear of his vicinity, his mind and the feelings that still linger, deep inside.
Internally conflicted, but wanting to experience again the bond of pure, undiluted and decadent abandon, through tests and trials, backs and forths, defiance, provocation, incandescent trysts and final yeldings, will our protagonists be capable of restoring what was once irrevocably only theirs?
With a great slew of secondary characters that are adjuvants but, most of all, advisors, protectors and fierce defenders, this is also a great story of family, friendships, present, future, learning and healing, love in all its expressions, fronts and dimensions, love that conquers all!
And who would've guessed Vegas could be something fun, definitively real and with forever in the horizon?
Brilliant!
