Nearing the end of the archery season, Luna Ellsworth leaves Fairvein for the final competition on the continent. After an overzealous night in one of the local taverns where a charming stranger from her ferry ride to the continent shows up, Luna suddenly finds herself in the palace, being blackmailed into a fake engagement with Prince Tobias Cranefield.
The Archer and The Prince is a cozy and romantic fantasy featuring an archer with the lifelong dream of entering the royal guard and the prince who may just thwart that plan.
I received an ARC of this novella and enjoyed each moment! The world was built quickly and with great detail. I enjoyed the storyline and the fact that the FMC was strong and independent. I highly recommend this quick read to anyone in a reading rut, who wants a pick me up, or in need of a great story.
I always love returning to Fairvein, and The Archer and the Prince was no exception! I liked the backstory of Luna’s father working for the royal family. The plot was a great idea, but some of the execution was lacking for me.
I don’t believe Luna wouldn’t know what the one and only Prince of this kingdom looked like-especially since she had a crush on him as a kid and her father worked for the royal family! Also-not enough archery for that being Luna’s literal job. I would’ve liked some more technical archery jargon and a few scenes at the archery competition that showcased Luna’s abilities. My final gripe with this volume is that it hardly took place in Fairvein at all! Sadness.
I really love the author’s metaphors and her imagery is lovely. The way Emma and Monroe continue to expand this world is so much fun! I’d loveeee a map so we can fully picture how Fairvein and the continent relate to one another.
I liked this volume, but I felt as if I got to know Luna and Tobias the least out of the four novellas so far. A solid 3 star read!
In "The Archer and The Prince," Emma Steinbrecher presents a delightful standalone novella within the Tales of Fairvein series. Despite not having read previous installments, I found this short and sweet story to be well-crafted and thoroughly enjoyable.
The novella exudes charm with its endearing characters and cozy atmosphere. Steinbrecher skillfully creates a welcoming world that captivates readers, allowing them to seamlessly step into the narrative without prior series knowledge.
Notably, the novella strikes a perfect balance in its storytelling, ensuring that despite its brevity, no element feels rushed or underdeveloped. The romance, a standout feature, is portrayed realistically, avoiding the usual over-the-top clichés often found in similar works.
"The Archer and The Prince" successfully stands alone without leaving readers feeling like they've missed essential details from preceding novellas. Its concise nature enhances the overall reading experience, providing a complete and satisfying story.

"I stared at him, my mind wanting to doubt him, but my heart trusting all the same. I knew that Fairvein had been filled with good people, and something about Tobias Cranefield made me believe that the continent could provide the same. And maybe that was the secret of not only the island, but of humanity. Kindness begot kindness. "I don't mind," I finally said. "Pretending to be engaged. I do not mind if it would help your situation." Tobias smiled wider than-an expression that seemed to light up the room. "Are you proposing to me, Luna Ellsworth?"
I never want to leave Fairvein. These novellas continue to bring the utmost warmth to my heart and cause my feet to kick in giddy joy. Another wonderful Fairvein adventure with characters we love and a male love interest that is quite possibly my favorite that Steinbrecher has ever written (and she has written a many wonderful love interests). Romance, mystery, archery, and a picnic that had me swooning---I am in love.
The Archer and the Prince is about a commoner girl who pursues her lifelong goal of becoming a part of the kings guard by competing in the royal archery competition. While there, she finds herself in a verrry peculiar situation with the prince.
I love coming back to visit the Fairvein world and reading about what goes on in this charming quirky town. I recommend every book in this series, but I loved how hilariously unapologetic the fmc was in this one and I also loved how patient and caring the mmc. There's also loss of family and a strong friendship that make the story more real. I love that the author could make such a short story feel really sincere and fun/cozy at the same time.
I read this in one quick sitting and I would definitely recommend for your fall tbr.
This fantasy romance novella was a fun read. I thought it had a lovely fairy tale quality, while at the same time being believable. I felt as though the characters in the story could just as easily have been people I knew. There wasn't really any steaminess in this one, but it didn't seem necessary, and I still felt the romance between the characters.
Thank you to Booksprout and the author for a free copy to review.

This book was rather short and was quite a quick read. But it doesn’t waste time to beat around the bush like some fantasy genre does, and the pace of storytelling was fairly quick but also does not take away the joy of reading it. However I found it ending on a somewhat cliffhanger….who exactly was the potions master and how did he convince Luna’s father into treason? So many questions and hoping there will be subsequent books to continue this tale.

Thank you to Book Scroll & Emma Steinbrecher for the ARC!
I loved her first Fairvein novella and was so excited for this one! For me, it falls a bit flat though I did still enjoy it. Most of the story didn't even take place in the town but in the palace. Adding in Luna's father to the storyline didn't do much for me either
I still really enjoyed it & would like to have full-length novels about the town!
I never have a bad thing to say about Emma’s works. I love the characters and the world. Luna is on my list of favorite archer type characters. I love a fake dating trope, and I love characters that have aspirations. I liked seeing a new part of Fairvein, as we spend a lot of time at the palace in this book. I loved the epilogue so much. I’m hoping that it hints at a follow up novella about the news announced about a certain couple.
I love how fast paced the novella was! It was to the point, a few meetings they were engaged and happy, and it has the appeal of no unnecessary arcs! The mystery just deepened my resolve to try and read the other novellas in the series and just brought intrigued to an otherwise sweet and homey love story! It was so easy to breeze through, I’ll be able to read it again and again. I received an arc from Booksprout for an honest review.
Another sweet and cozy read. The story line was very intriguing, so much so I didn’t want the story to end. There is a bit of romance and mystery.
The characters are adorable and lovable. I related quite easily with Luna. Prince Tobias is the ultimate golden retriever. Even when he tried to do something bad…it just wasn’t in him. If you’re looking for a quick sweet read, check out this book!
I received an ARC of this lovely novella and was absolutely enchanted by it. Reading 'The Archer and The Prince' felt like enjoying a hot cup of chamomile tea - warm, sweet and cosy. The characters were masterfully brought to life and my sole conplaint was that the story ended far too soon. This book is the perfect little treasure for a cosy evening of reading.
The more I read in the Tales of Fairvein series, the more I fall in love with this world. I started this series backwards, but I don't feel like starting at the end took anything away from this story. I loved the characters and would love to know more of their story. Very much enjoyed this!
There was something cool about Luna being the archer and a strong independent woman. I liked both Luna and Tobias and thought their story though not long was engaging.

I enjoyed the story and the writing. Very well done. Did not like that she is a redhead. Hate redheads. All and all great story. The only things that would have made it better is spice like even just one super heated scene and getting to see them married off
I absolutely loved this story! It is a cozy and romantic fantasy. Nearing the end of the archery season, Luna leaves Fairvein for the final competition on the continent. After a night in one of the local taverns where a charming stranger shows up, Luna suddenly finds herself in the palace, being blackmailed into a fake engagement with the Prince. If you haven’t read the Fairvein novellas what are you doing? They are all on kindle unlimited and they are so good! I wish I could live there!
In terms of plot, this one doesn't have much to offer. But it more than makes up for it with the host of well-written characters and the vivid mental imagery the prose elicits.
I particularly enjoyed the excellent utilisation of the engaged-for-convenience-fell-in-love-anyway trope.
I liked this so much, and with its length, i read it twice! The story was delightful, beautiful, heartfelt, and haunting. Delightful - the witty banter and chemistry between the two MCs was so fun, I read it twice to catch all the little things again and again! The MC, Luna, is so smart and fun, i really enjoyed getting to know her. This book does what it sets out to do. Beautiful - the description of the world, the culture of the different cities, and the environment of the places, especially the castle.... and that's all i'll say, because i'm not going to spoil why Luna is at the castle Heartfelt - the dynamic between really all of the characters are great and i connect with each of them, so to me that means they're written well. Haunting - the back story and driving force for the MC is so haunting...again can't say why because i don't want to spoil it.
Just read it!! ok thank you
Only (not terrible) thing is i wish it was longer, but that happens when i enjoy the story.
❝My jest dragged a laugh from his chest, deep and rumbling, tugging at the memory of every laugh he’d shared with me before. I knew without a doubt that I’d never be rid of the memory. It had been engraved in my bones — the most pleasant sound.❞
I got the arc of this book, for which I would like to thank Booksprout, in exchange for an honest review. It’s my first arc ever so I was even more excited to read it.
I defined enjoyed reading every single chapter of this book.
It follows the story of Luna, a 26 year old red haired elf who does archery, and the prince Tobias, a dark eyed handsome man, whom she will need to fake date in order to get the position of royal guard she has always dreamed of.
I got to be honest: I’m not an huge fan of fake dating tropes nor am I of first person narrators.
However, this book caught my eye, I read what it was about and decided to give it a try. Trust me, it was an amazing decision.
I find that this book’s writing style is splendid and “The Archer and the Prince” surely is a cozy read. Prince Thobias is a golden retriever, a whole green flag. Luna, too, has a lovely personality and I couldn’t dislike her, ever in the story. The two whetted each other in one of the last chapters and it was hilarious to read of.
I’ve grown attached to Isla, she truly is a great character and I just wish she got mentioned more throughout the book.
If you’re a fan of elves, low key fantasy, fake-dating trope and short novellas, this probably is the right book for you.
These Fairvein novellas always make me smile, kick my feet like a little girl, and then beg the authors for more! Perfect fun adventure. My only complaint is I wish it was longer! *I was gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Fairvein is a city I would live and love all the residents. In this book we get to meet Luna and watch her try and succeed at the archery competition. Only she has no idea a night out would end her waking up in the palace and being blackmailed by the prince.
What did Luna talk about during her drunk night out?
This is yet another cute cozy novella. I love how this book had a very slow burn romance. It was perfect in this setting. and that epilogue was perf.
