I was skeptical at first, another 30-day self-help book promising the world. But "The 30-Day Burnout Fix" by Janessa Rhoades surprised me. It wasn't just fluffy platitudes.
Here's what I loved:
Real Talk About Burnout: The book starts by acknowledging that burnout is a real problem, not personal weakness. It goes into the different stages and what they feel like, which helped me identify where I was at. Understanding the Why: It dives into the root causes of burnout, from societal pressures to our own belief systems. This helped me see how my own thinking patterns were fueling the fire. Different Types of Burnout: The book acknowledges that there's not a one-size-fits-all solution. It categorizes different burnout types and offers targeted strategies for each. Actionable Steps: It provides practical exercises and tools to manage stress, set boundaries, and re-evaluate your values. The daily plan in Part 8 was a game-changer, with manageable steps that added up to real progress. What could be improved:
Workbook Needed: While the book offers exercises, a separate workbook would make it even easier to put theory into practice. Scientific Backing: While the book references research, including more sources would strengthen its credibility.
Overall, If you're feeling burned out, this book is a great place to start. It's a well-written, encouraging guide with a clear path to follow. It helped me identify the root causes of my burnout and gave me the tools to fight back. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to reclaim control and move from burnout to breakthrough.
time to get fitter, leaner and work all round smarter
time to get fitter, leaner and work all round smarter? Then this is the book for you With a main emphasis on breaking patterns being cogniscent of your own downfalls.
This book is well-researched (with 52 references under “Bibliography”) and written with compassion. It offers a day-to-day guide to taking charge of your life and fixing the potential issues that may cause you to burn out. The book not only provides practical advice but also presents ideas on how to increase your happiness and self-compassion. It will empower you to find the best in yourself and to implement strategies that can keep you motivated.
The content was very helpful. I try to perform at a high level, and push myself hard, and have experienced clinical burnout in the past. Since working through that, I try to be aware more aware and practice self-care that will keep me from repeating that series of events. This book will help with that. I especially appreciate all the diagnostic quizzes and material to help you self-evaluate along the way.
This is a solid book exploring burnout. It does present a 30 day plan - one day at a time - that is the bulk of the book. So it is a guided strategy. The first third of the book is a strong diagnostic for burnout.
Therefore, if you need a diagnostic and a straight forward plan to step away from the crisis, this is an interventionist text.
The weakness is that the book presents 'work' and 'problems at work' as an individual issue, rather than a profound and complex context.
It includes a 30 days plan on how to manage your time, stress, mind, behaviors, and emotions. It helps you find balance and gives you a checklist to test yourself. You can find out your results. You will be empowered to have a better future by applying the practical steps.
Although some techniques, such as box breathing, were already familiar to me, there were many others I had never heard of and can't wait to try. There are self assessments within to help you identify what keeps you up at night, and this seems like a good long term aid to decompress.
