Fragments Of Me

Rate this book
I have been waiting for my expiration date to come for a long time now. I have been used by people who should have protected me. Everyone always took little fragments of me every time they abused me. No one ever gave me any of my pieces back, so I’ve been left with these gaping holes in my soul. Thomas and Derrick created this web of trauma for me to lose myself in. Ryder saved my life by simply answering the phone when I called. I never expected my boss to become my savior. He has helped me heal from the trauma of my past in ways no one else could.

This is a DARK romance with sensitive topics, reader's discretion is advised

I will start by saying that the content warnings for this book are there for a reason, if you are sensitive to those topics I really wouldn't read this book, or the rest of this review. With all seriousness I will be discussing some of the topics in this book.

This book was the exact opposite of a slow burn, but it was more believable because the two main characters had known each other for years. But at the same time the way this story took off almost gave me whiplash. I think the author could have easily written 10 more chapters between how things wrapped up, and how she pursued the kinds of relationships she did. But I was in a bit of a reading slump, and boy did this get me through it! It was a quick, and easy-ish read.

As far as how the character responded to the SA she went through I think it was kind of refreshing to read a character responding to that the way she did. As a victim of SA, I finally read from a main character who processed their trauma in a similar way that I did. Is it the healthiest way? No. I'm glad that she did end up going to the authorities against Derrek. He deserved worse, but knowing justice of some kind was going to happen to him was enough for me.

This book isn't breaking any barriers, but I'm not mad that I read it. It got me through a major reading slump, and mentally prepared me for the book I read after this one. It wont be one I read again, but for a book I got from Stuff Your Kindle Day I'm happy with it.

Dare I say it yet again…read the trigger warnings! They’re there for a reason.

We follow our FMC, her life at the office, her life beyond which is basically the office, home and dinner visits. Two of those leave a nasty taste in your mouth, the office she enjoys with her boss not so much his business associate, her dinner visits means her step-father and wait for it….the business associate. This story is far more in-depth than this, there are highs and so lows, it may leave a sour taste. On the lighter side, our FMC finds her voice, her fight and her armour!

Not giving anymore than this, the story was good, it had a few errors which Emily did say, these did not distract me from the read at all. As a whole it came together really well, it was great to read her relationship with Ryder was one of healing, set out to target her triggers and work through them together. Loved the relationship with Shane and Zoey. The statistics at the end added to the feels of this read, I do believe they are higher but it’s still good to see.

Very dark, but oddly healing. If there was a word to sum up this book it would be vindication. I would definitely take the trigger warnings seriously, but if you can, it’s a must read for your healing era.

When Ella must face her abuser in the meeting room, day after day, she is living on the edge and basically waiting to die. Secretly in love with her boss Ryder, one evening when Ella is told she will have to marry her abuser’s son, and after a particularly brutal attack she flees and calls him by accident.

All of a sudden in a situation where she feels safe and protected, she goes to the hospital and gets checked out. Still unsure as to whether she should reveal the identity of her attacker, Ryder tries to make her comfortable enough to reveal the information whilst also reassuring her that if she chooses not to, that’s her right too.

I really enjoyed the darker elements of this story, the way Emily focused on Ella’s healing through the aspects of kink to regain her control. And because the characters had known each other for years, the instalove between them was realistic.

Whilst a shorter, spicier read, it packs a punch and if you aren’t like me, you should definitely check your content/trigger warnings. They are there for a reason.

Finding happiness through all the darkness

This book has really touched me. I feel like I was living vicariously through Ella. All the hell she went through to find her happiness is amazing. She could’ve went down in that dark tunnel and never came back up but she found what she really wanted and helped others, but I am surprised about that little scene with Shane and Ryder. I’m surprised that little kink happened, but it was hot as hell. I can’t wait for more of their stories especially Shane & Zoey.

"People say the truth will set you free, but it doesn't, the truth hurts."

This book is classified as Dark Romance, and is book one of a series. It does have a trigger warning list: SA, DV, mention of child loving, unaliving, drooged.

The book is written in first person. This book has multiple point of views: Ella and Ryder. Ella works at Bennett Brand Marketing and is close with Zoey who works in the same building. Her step dad and his friend are blackmailing her into submission. Ryder is Ella's boss and loves her.

A dark read story full of trigger warnings for a good reason.. it’s full of highs and lows, tears(from the readers) it’s short and spicy but also sad and brutal all in one.

Ella must face her abuser in the meeting room every work day. It’s sad how she seems to be just waiting for the end of life. She is told she will have to marry her abuser’s son. After brutal attack she flees and calls Ryder her boss who she’s secretly in love with by accident.

This was real..dark and oh the ending!!

The things ella suffered through her life from those men made me want to jump into the book and be her savior! But she was able to hold her own and heal, and I'm happy as a reader she found happiness in the end!

I didn’t like this one. Too dark and not in a good way. There were triggering warnings to be fair. It was just such a turn off when Ryder was supposed to be the good guy and then turned her trauma into kinks.

I have to give credit to this author for making this an actual DARK read. So many hyped up “dark” reads end up not being THAT dark but this one definitely was. I got a little bored about halfway through though.
