Brian Billick, who guided the Baltimore Ravens to victory in Super Bowl XXXV in only his second year as head coach, quickly earned a reputation as one of the best leaders and motivators in the ranks of the NFL. Creating what many football observers consider the all-time best defense, he led his team to football’s Holy Grail against long odds and a tough series of adversaries. Calling upon the skills that helped lead a professional football team, Billick has created an invaluable resource for business executives who want to focus and energize their employees, team members who want to be more effective contributors to their organizations, and anyone who wants to improve their leadership skills.
The Untamed Duke is the third in this series and probably my least favorite. Kenneth, the Duke of Foxworth, believes the Duke of Bradenton (from book 1) murdered his father and decides to kidnap Bradenton's sister Sophie as revenge. Sophie doesn't go easily and turns the tables on him a couple of times.
I had a really hard time getting into this book. It felt like it took forever to reveal Ken's motivations behind kidnapping Sophie. I also found their back and forth to be too repetitive. I loved probably the last 40% because it felt like things flowed better and there was less of the meandering back and forth. I didn't particularly find Ken's revenge plot or motivations to be very compelling. I love revenge novels and read pretty much every revenge story I can get my hands on. This did not feel like a true revenge story.
Clarke's first two books are delightful, but this one just didn't hit right for me.
* I received a copy for review*. Up front, I enjoyed this book. It had elements of being a farce without being completely farcical. Revenge for the death of his father has The Duke of Foxworth planning to kidnap a man’s sister, Sophie. However, Sophie is aware that Foxworth is after her brother and is determined to thwart him. So a light kidnap by him results in her helping him against enemies & then kidnapping him. I enjoyed that the “kidnap” becomes a joke between the mains. It was an easy read with lots of other elements.
Kenneth Macleod, the new Duke of Foxworth, didn't know he was a duke until his cousin showed up telling him that he was. He moved his family to England from Scotland where he finds his father's diary accusing Edmund Duke of Bradenton who's story is the first book in this series. He decides to make Edmund pay by kidnapping Sophia'. Sophia is the duke's sister. just reviewed The Untamed Duke by Melanie Rose Clarke. #TheUntamedDuke #NetGalley [NetGalley URL]
Duke William is feuding with the brother, also a Duke, of the woman who has caught his interest. She, however, does not feel the same as she is trying to protect her brother from William. Chemistry flares between the two but it's a long, hard road to a HEA. Definitely recommended. Thank you Melanie Rose Clarke, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
