.I’m not a big reader of fiction. So when I decide to dive into the fictional world, I like to read books about relationships. After reading the synopsis for this book, I was instantly drawn in. ⠀ 𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨: Wealthy pastor Byran Ward has his sights set on becoming the pastor for Cornerstone Baptist Church. Byran meets all the requirements for getting his dream position in a mega church, except for one. He doesn’t have a wife. Doing whatever it takes to obtain this prestigious position, he makes gold digger Allyson Chase an offer she can not refuse. He asks her to become his wifey. Both Byran and Allyson agree their marriage nothing more than a business agreement, no love involved. And they agree to keep it that way. ⠀ However, when Allyson begins to develop feelings for her husband, she soon realizes money can’t buy happiness. ⠀ 𝙈𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬: I really enjoyed this story. It was very well written and the narrator Mishi LaChappelle put on an awesome performance! She really brought each character to life. ⠀ The audiobook is 7 hours and 56 minutes, which is a good length for me. The story moves at a good, steady pace. ⠀ I think this is a great book for #bookclubs because it raises so many great discussion questions. Such as: 1. Is it ever ok to marry for money even if both parties agree? ⠀ 2. Did Allyson really learn her lesson about marrying for money or did she simply level up? ⠀ 3. Would you stay married to a man if he got another woman pregnant? ⠀ 4. Would you ever remarry your husband after a divorce? ⠀ 5. Should adult children have a say so in their parents relationships? ⠀ 6. Is there a difference between a wife and a wifey? ⠀ 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦. ⠀ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐲 delivered everything I was looking for when I chose to listen to this audiobook. It did not disappoint at all! This is the first book I’ve by this author. I definitely plan to read more of her work.
I was holding out hope, but progress never materialized. Allyson was the leeching type from start to finish. She brought nothing to the table for either relationship-no career or entrepreneurial endeavors, no charity ambitions, no love for art or theatre…NOTHING. She is the type of woman to avoid in a religious setting because she brings nothing but drama. This book highlights the importance of having responsible females in the village who show young women their worth extends to self reliance and not the Christian religious teachings of subjugation.
Wow, this book was so emotionally inspirational. Truly phenomenal. This is the first time I'm reading DiShan Washington's book and I fully thought it was absolutely amazing! I'm looking forward to read more of her books in the near future.
The characters were well defined with lots of in-depth background history. I love our main character, Allyson Chase. She has dignity, strength and compassionate that got her closer to God. Also, Seth Carson is such a genuinely a kind heart man.
The book started off very interesting. I was intrigued and thought it would only get better from there but I feel just when the climax was supposed to hit, nothing happened and the storyline flatlined. I'm sure a lot of women can relate to both Allyson and Shatrice and how they both ended up loving Byran. What I would have loved to see is Allyson seeking to love herself first and by herself. She needed to stay single instead of jumping from one man to the next. To be frank, that whole situation with Seth was weird to me. From their first meeting and beyond. We never learned who Leah was and her parents getting back together was a definite wtf moment. Overall, it was an easy read that turned very churchy towards the end.
I have enjoyed the Preacher’s Wifey by DiShan Washington. It’s Christian Fiction but with some fire and lots of Scandal.
It was about a man who married a young woman who was the look he needed to become an Pastor at a Mega Church. They had a contract. He could do whatever he wanted but she had to live by the CONTRACT or else.
If we just believe and Gods power, just a little bit he will work his magic in any situation.
This was a great book! It's amazing how far people will go or sell themselves for money. But when a person learns their true worth, they will see that the dollar bill can't match the value. It's amazing how you view yourself when you are looking through the eyes of God. You can learn a lot about yourself and figure out why we do what we do. In the end, it helps us to be a better person to ourselves and others. I will look for other books by this author.
The Preacher's Wifey by DiShan Washington 282 pages 8 hours and 30 seconds narrated by Mishi LaChapelle
Genre: Romance, African-American, Christian (only in theme not true Christian Fiction and only on Goodreads)
Featuring: Atlanta, Agusta, Georgia; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Arranged Marriage, Pastor, Doctors, Abortion Clinic, Church, Trophy Wives, Profanity, Sex - detailed but not graphic, Incorrect Bible Verses, Infidelity
Rating as a movie: R for adult content
My rating: ⭐⭐½
My thoughts: 33% - The narrator's voice it semi irritating. Not sure how I feel about the story, it's so-so and has it's moments. 38% - 1. If somebody is a good spouse you shouldn't be able to take them from theirs. 2. Having a long shower hours ago at a spa, doesn't make you clean after sex now, you nasty.
I didn't like the characters or dialogue. It wasn't the worse thing I've read but it was trying to be deep while coming off silly. Everyone had the same speech pattern and the narrator didn't make it any better. I didn't have the book to go off of as only audio was available but no one says "One Corinthians" it's First Corinthians. She actually made up Bible Verses, that were actually just Christian phrases. The psychology of love the character was spitting was juvenile and the guy kinda came off as woman with some of things he was sharing. The story was just okay nothing special and the narrator had the most irritating laugh.
Recommend to others?: Not really, it's okay if you want an easy to read story without a lot of substance.
Allyson Chase was a beautiful young woman who Pastor Dale Persue married her as his wifey just to be pastor of the mega church in his community. He was not a man of God. But a man of business and money. He was also involved with his high school sweetheart and got her pregnant. When his trophy wife Allyson told him she was pregnant he got mad and ask her to do an abortion. Allyson went to another city to have the abortion hoping this would have her and Pastor drawn closer, instead when she arrive at the abortion clinic she found out she is having a miscarriage. Shatrice pastor side piece went into labor had a boy after a few days he died. Shatrice was in septic condition and he never leave her side. Allyson went to the spa and met Dr Seth who help her with the miscarriage one thing lead to another they became friends and when they were at the hotel his clinic was blown up which draw Dr Seth and Allyson closer. This book was a good read .I David every word Love it.
Truly enjoyed the story line. There was always a little something jumping off to hold your interest and make you want to come back for more. Also thought it was befitting that there were hidden Christian messages along the storyline as well.
Excellent Read. The author will pull you in and wreck havoc on your schedule. It will have you laughing, crying & swearing. She definitely knows how to captivate her audience.
Allyson Chase has spent the majority of her life chasing the big baller but hadn't gotten her any where. Then she met Bryan Ward. He was a up and coming Holy Ghost preacher that had vision of running a mega church. After accepting the agreement to be with 'wifey' (on paper only not in his heart) her life and lifestyle changed. She enjoyed the good life no she lived the golden life. Until he asked her to get an abortion...
God interceded in Allyson's life. First a simple conversation in a waiting room. Then a innocent interlude in the recovery room. Allyson begin to see and hear God everywhere. Her mom changed. Her dad was different. Allyson's heart was pierced and her yearning for God was honest. But can she get her life in order before someone wants to kill her?
Washington is an extraordinary storyteller. The development of the storyline and consistent drama made this a page turner. There was a short part that seemed out of line with the over all story but it did fit the theme of forgiveness. I recommend this book and will definitely read more by this author.
It is said you can never judge a book by its cover or title in my case. I was turned off by the title at first, but I kept coming back to the book and decided to check it out. God is so amazing and this book shows it in a practical way. It is now one of my favorite books. I loved it! This book was a full book that did not leave me hanging but hoping for more inspirational reading by Dishan Washington.
Overall this book is a good read. It started off well but towards the end I was bored. I think the ending was too long and many parts were unnecessary. Bryan was unbelievable and walked away unscathed which I did not like. At times Allyson's character really upset me with her actions. However the book held my attention until the last few chapters.
I give this book two thumbs up and it was awesome from start to finish. I hated how Byran treated Alyson like she was his whore. She should have left him when she found out their was another baby. I was thrilled to see Seth waited on her and did not try to pressure her. She went thru so much she deserved to be happy. I waa glad her parents remarried and worked things out.
Loved Allyson!!! Byran was a typical man, he didn't care about who he hurt as long as he looked perfect it didn't matter!!! I'm glad Seth came in the picture he is the epitome of what a real man should be!!!
DiShan Washington has done it again!!! You will not be disappointed. I found myself not able to put the book down. You will fall in love with some characters and others will make you want to rip them right from the pages of the book. I am anxiously awaiting her next book!!!
A woman marries for money, then finds love elsewhere and has to decide what is most important to her. The story has potential, although it gets preachy and could make its point without the long Bible quotations. The dialog tends to be stilted.
This was a page turner. I like the author style of writing. What kind of Pastor would have an arranged marriage just so he could become the pastor of a large congregation? Money does not buy happiness.
I truly enjoyed this book it showed how important God is in your life. And, that we should always allow God to guide us and to choose our partners in life. This book shows that marrying for money never works out. And, that true love always wins out and is an important part of a marriage.
I so loved this book is was a great read I'm glad Allyson found real love and let the money go I'm glad her mom found love again also......I love the writer style of this book kept you interested
I liked this book. There was plenty of drama but in the end it came down to her faith in the Lord. It showed that no matter what you do in life you can come back from it with faith.
