Eden's beauty was testament to a centuries-old dream to turn a barren, rocky world into a paradise where mankind could live in peace. But Eden wasn't paradise. Torn apart by decades of colonial rivalry, the provinces were deeply divided, and as two rogue provinces begin yet another bitter fight, the Union is forced to step in before they go too far, causing the entire planet to descend into war.Andy Moralee finds himself quickly sucked into the conflict, and nothing could have prepared him for the depths that humanity had sunk to out in the forest - where loyalty was achieved at the end of a gun. Ordered to ally with one side of Eden’s warring factions, he fears he now has two enemies to watch. In a desperate moment, Andy must choose between his mission and the only thing that separates him from the evil that lives in the forest … his soul.Published by The Electronic Book Companywww.theelectronicbookcompany.comA New York Times Best-seller Listed Publisher

OK. After four books, I have to say that I am a convert to Mr. Richards. I had almost given up reading male authors because they just don't seem to get relationships, but Richards gets relationships of all kinds, especially those between "mates" in a fighting group. I literally can no longer put down his books. Eden captured me from the beginning and I read in trepidation to see if Andy would live or die. He certainly seems to know what he's doing on the fighting front and is hopelessly out of his element on all others. I don't know why I find this so attractive, but this story had me almost not breathing as I raced to find out what happens next. And for the third time, I have ordered the next book in the series and will start it right away. Part of me wants Andy's torture to end and part of me will be sad if there are no more books about this amazing character.

Fantastic - Must Read

The situations described in this book are taken from fact and turn ed into fiction on these pages. The parallels to current situations world wide are on full display in a truth that everyone should be aware of.

This is a book that should make you think long and hard about the realities of the world we live in and how and where we as individuals fit in this reality. It made me think long and hard. It made me eventually come here and write this review and so much more after much introspection.

Too many people today fail to see what is in front of them, choose to accept evil as it is or just deny the reality to preserve their own sanity.

Let's not mince words here. I myself cannot cast stones, but I try my hardest to be a better person each day. And it is in that attempt that I have become to believe that which I have written below.

If you lie, cheat, steal and/or harm others, with malice in your heart and without remorse than you are on the wrong side of good. If you do not try or attempt action to help others when you are capable of doing so then you are part of the problem. If you continue to turn a blind eye to any form of evil or wrong doings to others, as though it is not your problem, than you may as well be doing it yourself. Think hard folks, if you look into your heart and have found yourself on the wrong side, maybe it is time for you to admit it to yourself and try to make a change to be a better person.

However, if you take part of making, defining, taking action or creating new ways to label a group of others or make them a target for others or make yourself or others a "victim" for your own or another's gain in anyway, than your are denigrating the true victims of evil while perpetuating evil upon others. Even if you believe you are doing it for someone else's benefit. Think real hard about what you are doing. Perhaps you believe you are smarter and know better how to help others than they can help themselves. Maybe in the short term it may help, as it has for community organizers, but in the long term it will always fail those you wish to help in the worst of ways. Thousands and thousands of years of human history haven proven it to be so.

For make no mistake, it is through the labeling of others, by any name other than your fellow human, creating targets for others to lash out against and creating false victims and targets that has always allowed the darkest of humanity to divide and conquer us.

And, all of that, gets me back to the morality of this book and what is described within. These atrocities do occur regularly today because their are evil people that use their power over others and/or wealth to further their own sick and twisted agendas, goals, desires and the accumulation of more power and wealth. These people are surrounded and attract others with evil intentions and desires. These sycophants and followers are just as evil as those they follow. They are the ones who provide support, logistics, training and they teach and indoctrinate others, willingly or forcefully, to help them perpetuate their atrocities, genocides and other evils upon this world. Some are willing to believe their propaganda, some follow them due to false charisma and claims, some believe they have no choice but to follow or risk their own lives. But, at the end of the day, all of there evil is based upon the use of labels, false targets and victimization that causes a person, who would not do otherwise, to rise up and kill another over PERCEIVED injustices, differences or beliefs.

Of course, their are also just as many who see this reality, wish for and do try in their own way to stop these evil injustices and yet nothing seems to change. To these people I would say, "Pray that your deeds today may be the butterfly effect that will change the future." Their are also many, many more people with more good in their hearts than evil and eventually they will see the world change for the better. It may take a long time, it will be brutal and it will cost a lot of good lives but eventually, I truly believe, the silent majority of good men and women will prevail over their oppressors.

All of the books in this series are great quick reads and real page turners and so far and for me this was the best yet. I came into this series expecting the classic militray-scifi romp but with this book more so than the others in the series you end up feeling the writing is unconfortably close to reality of modern warfare and all the horrors and human damage that go along with it.

Worth checking out.

This review was originally published on Kurt's Frontier.

Synopsis:
This is the third book of the Union Series. It follows the tale of Lance Corporal Andy Moralee in the Union Army’s Dropship Infantry. He has survived basic training and two deployments on the hostile world of New Earth. He has emerged as a leader in the army’s eyes. However, the horrors of war have left him scared. He is now trained for reconnaissance and has been deployed to the planet Eden.

Eden was a beautiful planet that where humanity had hoped to create a paradise where they could live in peace. Paradise never came. The air of the planet could be deadly if breathed too long. Colonial rivalries left people loyal to no faction, doing what the needed to survive. One rogue province has invaded the other, and the Union has to step in before the conflict draw’s in its rivals and the situation spirals out of control.

Andy Moralee takes his section in and is soon sucked into the conflict, where humanity has sunk to a new low. Loyalist forces are exterminating civilians in the forest. The Presidential Guard of Edo is prepared to kill the survivors, accusing them of treason for not resisting. Lancejack Moralee now has two enemies to keep an eye on, and he doesn’t know which side is worse. The Union has sided with Edo and neither trusts the other.

Andy Moralee finds himself walking a tightrope between following orders that could keep the war from spreading and separating himself from the evil he witnesses.

Review:
Phillip Richard draws from his experience as a soldier in the British Army to weave a tale relevant to the world of today. There are no strange, alien creatures to battle humanity. The enemy is very familiar. Earth is still split into warring factions that act out their rivalries on colony worlds. The soldiers have a large number of weapons to draw on, both high tech and brutally basic.

Even though this book took me much longer to read than the other two (3 days instead of 1 day), I still really enjoyed it. Andy, of course, is still the main character as it's told in first person. This time, he's on the planet Eden which is also in a state of war. Poor guy just doesn't catch a break as soon he's thrown into another tense situation between several different factions. As part of the Union, he needs to tow the invisible line even as he witnesses horrible things. On Eden, it's hard to tell who the good guys are and as Andy says "There are no good guys."
Again, while military sci-fi is not my preferred genre, I will most definitely be purchasing the next book with Andy in it.

Very good. When you get into the third or fourth book in a series you begin to expect a certain amount of overlap and repetition. However this is not your typical series. Yes there was plenty of the familiar but this book opens up new territories and even surprised me in areas. Solid third in the series. Love It.

Just as gripping as the first 2 books.

Eden is a real continuation of the series. Watching Andy's progression through the series has been really good reading, he is a very human character that's really grown on me. if you have enjoyed the other books in the series you will be sure to love this one.

Once again, well written

Another very enjoyable episode in the adventures of Andy Moralee In his epic battles around the galaxies.
Not as good as the first two episodes of our heroes adventures, but still very very readable. This episode ended with a kiss, shame it never ended with a shag!

The finest kind of military sci-fi......

Eden is third in a very entertaining ride (in a sometimes macabre way) that at times SEEMS slow but actually builds suspense . Well worth reading......looking forward already to e-learning all three.

Compared to the first 2 books of this series, this one was slow and at times dry. But over all a good read. I think that with some more editing and time they could have cut a good chunk and kept the same results.
The story of Andy does take a turn for the dark here.

This book really needs a good going over by an editor. Small but very noticeable errors. Raised instead of razed. The constant use of the "tens" of things. The story was good though
