This is a remarkable work by Lorenzo Sabine for any scholar or family historian who wishes to know more about their Loyalist ancestors, those who were on the losing side of the American Revolution. Mr. Sabine started the compilation in the 1840s, which makes his work all the more important given that it was assembled in close proximity to the time of the decisive event that formed two countries: the United States of America, and British North America, to become the country of Canada in 1867. His interviews and research clearly show that this was a civil war with more nuanced political positions than history would have us believe. This is a key foundational work for all who wish to understand the lives and choices of their Loyalist family members. I've read and reread sections of it to appreciate the context.
