This book was the most gentle but firm creative encouragement I have ever encountered. Full of unflagging support and tons of facts and examples to back it all up. It’s like a friend approaching you while you’re laying on the couch, taking you by both hands, and slowly, but determinedly encouraging you to start taking steps again. (I read this book while recovering from a torn calf muscle, so pardon the walking reference.)

After over two decades of defining myself first and foremost as a writer, I had lost my joy and stopped writing completely for several years. I honestly wasn’t sure if I had it in me to ever write again. But part way through this book I decided to just try it. 200 words. That’s it. Low stakes. No pressure. Each morning I would read one chapter and then write 200 words. I haven’t skipped a day since. It may not amount to much, but it’s more words than I’ve written in years. I wish this book could have gone on forever. I hope my renewed love for writing does.

While the book contains much of the writing and productivity advice you've probably already encountered, the combination of anecdote and case studies followed by practical exercises put it head and shoulders above a lot of other similar books and blogs. I get the sense already this is a book I will return to time and again!
The practical steps are helpfully on grey pages which will make it easy to flip back to in the future.
It's not a book on craft or technique, so if that's what you're looking for this isn't the right book for you.
If you're looking for a book that gives you practical steps you can take to create a writing routine that you can stick to, this would be a great book to start with!

Really informative and helpful book that gave me lots to think about, I can see myself dipping in again and again.

Wish the authors were still running in person courses.
