JESUS SAID, “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. No one comes to the father except through me” (John 14:6). He added, “I am the door; if anyone enters through me he shall be saved.” But “he who does not enter into the fold of the sheep, but climbs in another way, he is a thief and a robber” (John 10:1, 9). The apostle Paul agreed, insisting, “There is one God and one mediator between God and man, the Man Christ Jesus” (1 Tim. 2:5). Peter declared, “Neither is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Many people have difficulty accepting these claims because they seem so narrow. After all, there are many claimants to truth in the current marketplace of ideas. Muhammad claimed to be the last of the prophets, giving the final word from God in the Qur’an. Millions hold that Buddha is the truly Enlightened One. Confucius believed he had discovered the way of wisdom. And Hindus affirm that Krishna is an incarnation of God for mankind. Add to this literally thousands of sects and cults who claim to have a direct pipeline to God and one can understand the reluctance of our generations to accept the unique claims of Christ. Moreover, a rising tide of atheists says there is no God at all. And untold numbers of agnostics don’t know if there is a God, and skeptics call on us to doubt the existence of any such being. Who is right? And how is one to know?
Norman L. Geisler (PhD, Loyola University of Chicago) taught at top evangelical colleges and seminaries for over fifty years and was a distinguished professor of apologetics and theology at Veritas Evangelical Seminary in Murrieta, California. He was the author of nearly eighty books, including the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics and Christian Ethics. He and his wife lived in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This is a must read if you want to study apologetics. Norm Geisler clearly outlines the steps to defending the Christian faith. It helps to listen to his accompanying lectures and share what you've learned with others to be able to defend it yourself.
To be very clear: this book is absolutely riddled with typos such that it is perilously close to being unreadable in places. Wrong words, typos, missing punctuation, extra punctuation, misspelling…YIKES! This has to be one of the worst edited books I’ve ever read!
That said: the content, once you wade through the nightmarish editing (or total lack thereof?), is STELLAR. The arguments are solid, comprehensive, backed by research and scripture, and they flow easily and logically. Dr. Norman Geisler was one of the greatest Christian apologists of the modern era, and this book is an example of his brilliance.
I like this to be honest. It was very informative and makes your faith really strong. I'm not far from the end so I don't know why I gave up 🤔 I need to dive deeper in that feeling I had but overall this is a great book
Muy buen libro del dr. Geisler construye un muy buen argumento sobre los doce puntos, es un libro que todo apologeta debe leer y compartir su contenido.
This is a great overview of Christian apologetics in twelve points-each building on the points before in logical succession. If the earlier points are false, the latter points are unsustainable; but if true, a solid foundation is laid to serve as a bastion for the Christian faith. It is to be commended to each reader that is looking for consistency in what they should be believing, and looking for grounds why the Bible can be trusted, and the Christian faith is true.
Dr. Norman Geisler has laid out a set of crucial steps to bring both believer and non-believer to an irrefutable point: the claims of Christianity contain the only eternal truths. This comprehensive effort is proof that Christianity is not a blind leap of faith, but THE faith tradition that is based on very solid evidence and comprehensive logical steps. Truth by it’s very nature is exclusive!
