Hoorah! We have returned to Mayfield, a village with characters and shops that I really loved the first time around, and pictured myself visiting it.
Lorraine Buxton cleverly picks up village life with some 'new' people, but blending them in with the old so we feel we are truly continuing life in a very real way. There is drama, of course; there is family life; there are new businesses and customers; and there is excitement, all of which you might expect a novel to contain.
I did find this one a bit harder to read, because it addresses two very real, and very tough, situations. Hats off to Buxton for handling them, though.
