The writing style in "Echoes of the Fallen" is engaging and descriptive, drawing readers in from the very first page. The author has a knack for creating tension and suspense, making it difficult to put the book down. The dialogue is well-crafted and realistic, adding authenticity to the interactions between the characters.

The opening chapters are gritty and emotionally heavy. Matt Groover, a soldier from the 101st Airborne Division, carries deep scars from the Iraq War. The author doesn’t shy away from the realities of PTSD, abuse, and loss, and at first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep reading. In today’s world, stories that begin in such darkness can feel overwhelming.
But the story hooked me.
I found myself caring deeply about Matt and the fragile life he begins rebuilding through the love of Lauren and her daughter AJ. Their presence introduces warmth, faith, and hope into a story that initially feels defined by pain and survival.
The pacing is excellent, gradually shifting from personal healing to larger stakes when an EMP event throws the world into chaos. Matt’s strength, leadership, and resilience come into focus as he helps guide a small community through uncertainty and danger.

The combo of story elements here makes for an engaging, intense, raw read. The emotional dynamics of the main character’s PTSD, then spilling into a crazy apocalyptic situation that calls for him to draw on his military skills in a home town environment, all come together to create a really cool story. This will make you want to read the other books in the series!
