Widower Seamus is stuck in his house following a storm. He knows his family will come looking for him, but will they reach him in time?
Unfortunately, the plot is over focused and one dimensional for my tastes. It would have been nice to introduce some other plotlines that lasted throughout the book.
The characters are interesting but lack depth. I would have preferred that the author show us more of the characters' emotions.
If you are looking for a sweet family, this book is for you. It is the story of a recently widowed man who is trapped in his home after a tornado. The setting is on isolated land in Northern Michigan. Most of the story revolves around his complicated rescue. It also features the bond between a 7 year old boy and his dog who becomes a "hero". I think it would be a great family "read aloud" book for children in upper elementary.
The story line seemed interesting, but the book was boring. While reading seemed to know what was going to happen before turning the page. The only character in the book who had any personality was the dog, Charley,
A riveting, quick read. A tornado sweeps through the forest and topples Seamus ' house. Across town, his daughter, two children and their beagle ride out the storm in the basement, while the son-in-law is out working as a lineman. After the storm, when they can't reach Seamus, the drive to the woods and realize a tornado has come through. Although predictable, the story of the rescue is fast paced and told from different perspectives. Family, friend, animal, and community relationships are explored. A light read for such a disastrous story. I enjoy reading the book. #GoodreadsGiveaways

This is a quick simple read. I think it's more for youths than adults. The author talks a lot about family, values and responsibilities. I felt that the characters lacked substance. The dog Charlie definitely was the main star of the book. It's just a feel good read not a page turner.
I enjoyed the characters. I could really see the story through the eyes of each person. It was like life - we don’t always share the tender love feelings we hold deep inside.
