Wren My life is a mess. No job. No friends. An abusive ex-boyfriend. Solo hiking the Cypress Valley Trail was supposed to jump start my journey to personal growth and healing. Little did I know it would completely change my life. Lost and alone in the middle of the woods, I find myself cornered by a massive grizzly bear. But this isn’t a normal grizzly. It’s a shifter. Kiernan Holzman ; and he claims I’m his fated mate. He feels safe, like this was meant to be. But can I really make this my home?
Kiernan Lilacs. While blowing off steam and running through the woods, my bear catches the scent of her. My mate. I found her lost and alone. One look into her striking blue eyes, and I can see my future unfolding in front of me… with her in it. Wren Fields is mine, and I’ll do everything in my power to convince her to stay in Cypress Valley—with me. The attraction is instant, and she fits into my life and my pack like a missing puzzle piece. After losing my brother, I never thought I would have a family again, but Wren and my pack have filled that void. Everything is perfect until someone starts vandalizing our property. Will this unknown enemy scare Wren off? Or will she stay here with me forever?
***My Forever Bear is book one in the Cypress Valley Shifters series. Each book is a complete standalone, however, I do recommend reading them in order to build a better picture of each character. This book deals with sensitive subject matter. Check the trigger warnings before reading.
Awwww this book was such a sweet, spicy, cozy read 🥰 definitely a fast burn but that’s okay because I practically read it in one sitting! I love how everyone just accepted Wren into their little community! And I just love how Keirnan was obsessed from the start!
Honestly, my favorite character was Tyler, even though we didn’t get a whole lot about him. I can’t wait for his book!
I was craving a shifter romance with a found family vibe, and this book delivered! It has spice, a pinch of danger, and a hero who made me fan myself many, many times ;) The secondary characters were intriguing, so I can't wait to read their books!
This was better than a 3, but not quite a 4. Perfectly enjoyable. It delivered what was promised. I found there was too much telling and not enough showing in regards to their mate connection.
The repitition of a the word "mate" towards the end got on my nerves. I know that's a me thing though. I know it's supposed to be romantic when authors write thinks like "My love. My mate. My forever." in a row like that, but it always sounds to dumb to my ears. No one IRL says shit like that.
This was fast-paced and I do care enough to read future stories about the other bear shifters. Bonus points for it being set in my homestate of MN.
3.5 stars This book had its cute moments, like Wren and Kiernan admitting their feelings. But I also was frequently bored. I liked the whole abuse recovery plot line.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: emotional abuse, stalking (not by MC), attempted breaking and entering, brief physical altercation, discussion of death of family member
As far as bear shifter, fated mates books go, this one wasn’t too bad. Kind of a predictable storyline, but it was pretty succinct and was still a decent read. Nothing was unnecessarily drawn out and it was a pretty quick moving story. There was some low level drama thrown in to keep things interesting and evolve the story into more than just an insta-lust short story surrounding the couple hooking up. But don’t worry - they definitely do hook up. The spice isn’t anything too crazy, I would say it’s 1.5/5 on my made up scale. Since it’s a shifter romance, the MMC has a unique schlong, complete with a knot. Not a baculum like you might expect for a bear. The book ends with all loose ends tied up and a HEA for the characters. Plus a sneak peak into whose relationship will be in the next book during the epilogue. If you’re looking for a light and easy read with just a sprinkling of spice and bear shifters, give this one a try!
Well that was an interesting read…. Personally I didn’t like how much they say “baby” and “mate” it’s a little over done, also some stuff happens in the book that is not explained so you’re kinda sitting there wondering like “why are they doing that?” There is three in the series I will probably read them just to see if the writing gets better or not but also kinda want to see how the other characters story turns out.
What a read! I adored how this book went. Fast paced with strong characters.
I instantly fell in love with Kiernan the protective bear shifter. Totally smitten with Wren from the second he saw her in those woods. Wren, her mind all the over the place not knowing which direction to turn to as she not long left a horror relationship but she chose right eventually.
This was great for a short, quick, palette-cleansing read. I'm not usually a fan of insta-love but it works for this story and the book serves its purpose! I would've liked to see a little more of the shifter side/more of Kiernan's bear - I feel like once he meets Wren he kind of disappears and even she mentioned wanting to see him again. I really liked his nickname "Lilac" for her, and I like that it seems there's an association with mates and a specific floral scent!
Short and sweet, a nice light read if you enjoy shifters, insta-love, and growly, protective men :)
I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review
While hiking (ill prepared) through the Cyprus Valley mountains Wren runs into a bear. But not just any bear- a hot one. I mean- a bear shifter who is hot. Kiernan finds Wren and promptly brings her home after she faints seeing him in his nature suit... in human form right after seeing him in bear form. A proper reaction. Kier takes good care of Wren as they navigate some scary incidents and immediately begin to fall for each other. Is Wren the mate Kiernan has been waiting for?
I thought this was a super cute quick shifter read. The plot moves at a steady pace, the dialogue is a little cheesy but this is a cozy shifter book after all! Still very enjoyable. Good spice, knotting, insta love, touch her and d!e. It also looks like we can expect more books with the rest of the shifter pack!
I received an ARC copy. This review is entirely my own opinions and thoughts. Thank you for the ARC copy!
“‘It was torture sleeping with you in my arms all night, sweetheart. I need to touch you, taste you. Need to make you mine, Lilac. My mate.’”
This was one of those reads you pick up when you want something fast-paced, cozy, sweet and spicy. I was not let down. We see so many wolf shifters in romance so reading a bear shifter romance was so fun. I was very excited to read this after seeing all of E.M. Sauber’s posts leading up to my ARC read.
We have Wren, our FMC who goes on a solo hike doing some healing and soul searching. Wren ends up lost and enters Kiernan, our sexy bear shifter love interest to rescue her. I loved Wren and Keirnan’s first interaction. He was in bear form and was immediately interested in his beautiful mate. I loved how Wren questions whether she should go to this hot shifter’s home after just meeting him and calls her sister. And let me tell you, her sister’s advice did NOT disappoint. I was cracking up.
This story has insta-love so if you’re looking for a fast burn, look no further. There’s also a shower scene 👀 We have forced proximity and side characters you’ll love and be rooting for them to have their own book which I do believe they are coming, hehe. I had a great time reading this cute but smutty book. There isn’t a 3rd act breakup and the angst is low so it’s a very cozy read. It made me want to curl up around the fire with my fuzzy socks on and read it while snow falls outside around me. I can’t wait for the next book!
This was such a cute little romance. Fated mates always make me so happy and giddy! I adored this book and I’m excited for Reese and Sydney’s (I think it’s Sydney) book
Thank you, thank you for giving me the opportunity to get my hands on the ARC of this romantic story! 🤍 I'm so excited for everyone to read the debut and fall in love with this novel just like I did!
I will never EVER get tired of reading about mountain men shape-shifters who are obsessed with their mate. ❤️🔥🫡 I loved the passion they both have, how Kiernan makes Wren feel loved and helps her regain her confidence! ❤️🩹
I share so many feelings with Wren, wanting to find her person who loves and cares for her, being able to find her place🤍 Kiernan, we share the same addiction to coffee 🫡
I loved all the characters, they're a great big family! ♥️ I need to read the story of each one 🙌🏻 I'm so, so excited to read Reese's story, I hope her mate is who I think it is!!! ✨🧎🏻♀️
Here are some quotes that I loved and made me smile like a crazy in love person 🩷
I went into this book knowing only one thing: instead of wolf shifters, this series has bear shifters, and that's all it took for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this lighthearted, less intense version.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review
This book starts with Wren attempting to find a way back to her car. With her phone dying and going in circles, she clearly has very little hope left of making it back. She was out on a trek, trying to clear her mind of all that was going on in her life.
Kiernan was having a normal day when he scented her. Forgetting everything, he rushes towards her in bear form, resulting in Wren getting terrified and then fainting when he switches back to his human form.
Now that the story has begun, will Kiernan be able to convince Wren to give up her city life and stay with him forever?
Beautifully written in first person with dual POV, this is the first book in the Cypress Valley Shifters series. The plot of the book is simple, fast-paced, and engrossing. I was hooked on it from the very start.
"I want you because of your flaws, not in spite of them. You're my one shot at happiness. My one shot at family. My one shot at everything. You're my forever, Lilac."
The chemistry between Wren and Kiernan was beautiful. The balance that Kiernan had was admirable. He found his mate and is very possessive of the fact, but at the same time, he tries his best to not be too overbearing and gives her an opportunity to choose between the life he is offering and her previous life.
While the plot was good, the thing that didn't sit well with me was that it felt too tropy sometimes, as one shifter trope followed another, and so on.
I think anyone who is on the lookout for a light, breezy read will enjoy this series a lot.
I loved Wren and Kiernan's story! First of all, can we please get more bear shifters?!! There aren't enough out there IMO.
Wren is so relatable, and her little sister reminds me of mine, their dynamic as well lol. As I was reading this I thought to myself, yep, I'd be the Wren in this scenario, and my little sister would totally tell me to yolo it up in the woods with a dude who turns into a bear!
This is instalove, so if that isn't your thing..this is not the book for you. Wren and Kiernan are fated mates, so the pull between them is instant and unexplainable (for Wren at first). Kiernan knows she is his mate and finds her lost in the forrest--in his bear form. She passes out from the shock of him shifting, and wakes up in his cabin, where she proceeds to freak out as he calms her down and explains everything. He eventually tells her she is his fated mate and wants her to stay with him! She obviously thinks this is absolutely insane but asks her younger sister/best friend for her input, and she says do it!! Then someone vandalizes her car, and their pack is on edge, ready to pounce on whoever is out to hurt her.
Did I mention the spice was hawwwwtt??!! I will admit that I went into this expecting a cute and steamy little novella and was slapped in the face with some pearl-clutching spice!! and I'm definitely not mad about it!
Read this if you like: knots, obsessive and protective alphas, big burly bear shifters, lumberjacks, curvy fmc's, found family/pack, grumpy alpha side characters, and toe-curling spice! What a debut! Makes me wanna take my chances and go get lost on a hike in the woods lol. Can't wait to read the next one!!
Wren’s life is a mess so she decides to solo hike the Cypress Valley Trail. She’s unemployed with no friends and an abusive ex and hopes this hike will jump start her journey to personal growth and healing. She finds herself lost when a grizzly bear corners her…she wakes up in a cabin with man named Kiernan…who just so happens to be a bear shifter. Wait…What??
Kiernan immediately knew Wren was his mate. She will want to become a member of the pack right or will a series of mysterious attacks on the pack scare her off?
“But I don't know anything about him. Somehow, he still feels like home.”
I had never read a bear shifter book before and I have to say I really enjoyed it! This is a quick read and will definitely leave you smiling at the end. Wren and Kiernan had great chemistry and while this is an insta love connection she did take a step back and work through what she really wanted.
Wren is so much stronger than she gave herself credit for - leaving a bad situation was brave and I liked her personal growth. Kiernan was so sweet and protective and all in with Wren. Even though it was full blown insta love for him, he did give her space to figure out her feelings and to decide whether to stay or not. He was very supportive of her and made her feel safe and loved.
I loved the friendship that Wren created with the other shifters, especially with Tyler. I love it when a character is a secret bookworm and I really enjoyed their shared love of romance books and the work they did in the greenhouse. I will definitely be reading the next book!!
Would you rather run into a man or a bear in the woods? In this case both if they are a bear shifter!
“You’re always safe with me, Wren.”
This book was a short and sweet cozy read. (It took me ~2 hours) It is an insta love which makes perfect sense with the shifter dynamics. Our FMC Wren is instantly likable and relatable. And the MMC Kierran is drool worthy.
“He totally caught me checking him out. I’d stepped into the kitchen after getting ready, and there he was, looking delicious in a black and white flannel. Fitted dark wash jeans hugging his powerful thighs and firm ass. And then, like he knew my kryptonite, he rolled up his fucking shirt sleeves. Putting those veiny, muscular forearms on display.”
Whenever I think of this book (or this series) the “I need a big boy, cuffing season” song plays in the back of my mind. And a story with a strong, but cuddly, protective bear man that shows a woman that she is worthy of everything- who doesn't like that? Even though it is a short story I enjoyed the easy immersion into the close knit community that is Cypress Valley. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
Other reasons I enjoyed this book and you should read it: -Duel POV -“Good girl” -Purring bears (google it) -The cricket - I was wheezing- I laughed so much! -Healing relationships
“You being here, in my arms, is exactly what I need, Lilac.”
First, I have to mention the title. It’s the cutest title ever and very fitting as well.
My Forever Bear is a paranormal/shifter romance. It is the first book in the Cypress Valley Shifters series and the authors debut novel. This is the type of book that I find incredibly difficult to review. The first few chapters were a bit awkward. Especially the scene in which Wren meets Kieran for the first time. But I really enjoyed reading about everything that happened after that. Overall, I’m positively surprised by the writing style, considering this is a self-published debut novel. It’s only two hundred pages which means there isn’t room for an in-depth plot, but I don’t think I was expecting one either. I do wish the author had give the story a bit more depth. Especially since it’s very short. It felt a bit rushed at parts.
It’s fated mates and described as instalove/lust by the author. I do feel that mates is one of the few valid excuses there is for instalove, but also that the author set the expectations beforehand and was upfront about what could be expected of the book really helped.
Still, this isn’t the kind of book you read for its literary quality, but rather for the feelings you’re left with afterwards. It’s the perfect feelgood/pick me up read. It’s got found family, finding forever, a cinnamonroll hero who’s a lumberjack and lots of spicy scenes. And all this in a short read that could be completed in one evening/sitting.
I’m really excited to read the next book from E.M. Sauber!
Bear-shifters set in (fictional) MN? Count. Me. In. This was such a fun read, full of insta-love and knotty goodness.
Wren gets lost while hiking and is found by a bear-shifter, Kiernan, that immediately recognizes her as his mate. He takes her to his humble cabin, where he lives within a small community of other bear-shifters, and proceeds to take care of her. With no job and recently broken-up, why shouldn’t Wren take the time to figure out this magnetic pull to Kiernan?
The story was fast-paced, Wren and Kier fall for each other quickly, but they are so freaking cute together. I loved that while Kier quickly expressed his affection to Wren, he also guided her through the shifter community, meeting Reese and Tyler, and made sure she was comfortable. Also, the way they comforted each other from their own traumatic pasts? MY HEART.
And the spicy time! Rolling up shirtsleeves? Check. Chopping wood shirtless? Check. Good girl? Check? Possessiveness, knotting, and mating bite? Check to the nth degree. Yes. Please.
Now I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! Reese is the alpha of the group and I am SO READY to meet him. This was a fun, quick read and perfect for those thinking of jumping into monster/shifter romance!
🐻 Right from the beginning there seems to be a lot of telling. Telling us what she's wearing. What she's doing. And it's very stilted and doesn't flow.
🐻 Kiernan shows up, and I understand instant love, but her screaming and being afraid one second, to staying and having "lusty" thoughts about him is very quick. It also comes right out of nowhere.
🐻 She just drops an "oh, he was the bear, that's cool. I've always wanted to meet a shifter" which seemed really weird. This is the first time she's said anything about shifters. And she was absolutely TERRIFIED, which is valid in her situation, about being chased in the woods by a bear... Then all of a sudden she's just like "*Shrug* this is pretty cool."
🐻 This book is obviously very short at 188 pages, but both characters seem very uninteresting. They have 2 modes - completely lusty, and then just not... And when they aren't, the author just throws out a bunch of info I don't care about and tells us things instead of showing us.
🐻 The entire plot is very predictable. The ex keeps stalking... It all leads to the exact same place.
Wren is hiking and finds herself unprepared and tries to limp back to her car, but before she can get there, she runs into a giant grizzly bear, Kiernan, who is a shifter. Wren doesn't know he's a shifter, so she passes out from shock.
Kiernan decides to take her to his cabin, where she will be safe. But his inner bear is calling to her right from the first sniff of her lilac scent.
This was a short, sweet, and spicy book about finding where you belong. One handed read. 😉😉
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
I can't wait for the other books in this series.
Thank you to E.M. Sauber and flying pig pr for this arc!
All opinions and reviews are my own.💋

I wonder if I go hiking if I can find my own Kiernan?!? This was a shorter book but it was cute and had all the feels. It's an insta-love with a love of possessiveness/protective vibes. If you love bear shifter romances than this one for you cause it is so well written that once you start it it's very hard to put back down. I got lost in the world of Cypress Valley and found myself wanting to stay there! That epilogue though....
Poor Wren, that poor girl should have never had to endure what she did from that slimy ex of hers. I love that Kier helps her to start loving herself for exactly who she is. Keir is the prime example of a perfect book bf!!! Consider him claimed.... The way they meld together is amazing! I really just wanna hear his bear purr one time!!! I can't wait to read the next book!
If you go down to woods today... I get that it's a novella but this moved way too quickly. They've known each other for less than a day and they're already trauma dumping and are "in love", erm okay?! Wren is lost in the woods and sees a bear sifter, passes out and wakes up in his cabin. I'm not a fan of the nickname in this, he calls her Lilac because she smells of lilacs to him. If it was used more sparingly I wouldn't have minded it but it was overdone. This one of those easy "no thoughts in my brain" books. It's not bad but I have no feelings on it. It was just a book that I read.
