Sweet Jesus. This was some good tentacle smut.

"I was having a dream about you breeding me and woke up with your tentacle cocks in my ass. Yes, I’m more than okay. I’m splendid.”

"I exposed xyr tentacled cocks and hole. I spread the tentacles apart, seeing that xe was already wet. “Fuck me,” Moss said."

Clio Evans gets me out of every book slump!

I could read Clio Evans every day and still not get tired of her books.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Cosmic Heat by Clio Evans

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Galactic Gems character series. Book 3.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Sci-fin erotica

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Insta-list, fated mates, nonbinary representation, fun appendages.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Max is finally getting his chance to be a Galactic Gem when he meets Moss, an alien who finds him instantly attractive.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This new series is such a vibe, I’m eating it up!

Galactic Gems is space burlesque, which makes it unique onto itself. But then you get all of the things Clio Evans is incredible at - short and sweet books with instalove and great characters and fun spice. This was exactly what I needed.

Clio is monster kink royalty and it’s always interesting to learn about new (to me) kinks. Max was a sweetie pie and I’ve been excited for his book since book one. He and Moss was adorable together and went through some hiccups in communication. I mean, Max was better at communicating than Moss was, but he still had a lot of fear surrounding being completely open. Moss was the perfect grouchy enby alien and I was here for it. Xe was protective and slightly enigmatic, but xe still was able to open xyr heart to Max. Looking forward to the next book!

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: stabbing, near death, drowning, kidnapping, home invasion, mention of sexual harassment (brief, not involving MCs)

I liked this one A LOT.

I really enjoyed the writing of not just an enby character but also a neopronoun using enby character. At first, because Moss is an alien I thought that perhaps gender may have been different on xyr planet and perhaps they're wasn't masculine or feminine gender which would have been interesting but it does tire as both an autistic and non-binary individual to only see yourself shown as non-humans but I was pleasantly surprised that Moss was in fact non-binary and there were masculine and feminine genders on xyr planet! Ten out of ten for that.

I really felt the emotional bonding here that I felt was lacking in the second book, which was great bc smut is great but I really do like to feel that the characters love each other. It felt like I was reading some of my favourite omegaverse fanfiction. Though, I did find Moss' decision at the end a little off but other than that, loved this.

This is the third and spiciest book in the series so far. Max and Moss are taken by surprise by Moss' heat when they met, and all of a sudden, they need to spend the next three days effing like kinky rabbits. Oh, what a terrible time for them, haha.

But of course, they fall in love in a very sweet way and decide to spend the rest of their lives together.

Both characters are a delight. Max is small but fierce, Moss is the prettiest thing to ever live and a giant sweetheart, I love xem.

Clio has a way of mixing the most dirty depraved shit you'll ever read with cuteness that really works, and this time it wasn't different. <3

Easily the best of this series, but plagued by the same proofreading errors and awkward syntax that is somewhat common in Evans’ self published work. (No copy editing slips though, so that’s a win!)

If Evans is paying an editor or proofreader then uhhhh they deserve a refund.

If not, this is a totally acceptable number of proofreading errors and syntax slips for self-edited and self-pubbed work, although the mistakes definitely broke immersion in the novel for me, especially when they fell in the middle of spicier or more dramatic scenes.

Editing aside: I really enjoyed this book. Clio Evans is, as always, a master of the kinky and consensual sex scene. The kinked and vanilla scenes in this book feel equally credible, immersive, and sexy.

It’s clear Evans knows her kink and knows what good sex is—and in SFF romance it turns out that’s something that really makes some authors stand out head and shoulders above the rest.

There isn’t a single cervical orgasm to be found in this book! (Not least of all because neither character has a cervix). And plenty of lube is used wherever it might be necessary to keep the sex scenes in this book believably fantastic for all parties involved.

What I will say for Evans, and for Cosmic Heat specifically is that I am constantly delighted by Evans’ worldbuilding and the way they turn common tropes in the genres they write in on their head, coming up with new and exciting takes on well-worn (but still beloved!) concepts, character archetypes, and plot points.

This was one of the most fresh, original, and well-executed takes on aliens going into “heat” and the “fuck or die” trope (or in this specific case “fuck or suffer.”)

I often both love and loathe “fated mates” romances in equal measure but there is nothing to loathe in Evans’ deployment of the trope.

Fated mates never feel too cliched or improbable in any of Evans’ work, but in Cosmic Heat this trope truly shines—not for a moment did I think that the instant-lust of the pairing felt forced or like it created an immediate bond between Max and Moss that was unrealistic. Getting both the cosmic fun of fated mates AND a chance to watch two lovers clumsily miscommunicate and stumble towards falling in love made this truly a masterclass in the trope.

Another element of Evans’ writing that is masterful? Their worldbuilding. And nowhere more so than here.

I’ve already been enthused by the detailed, thoughtful, and original worldbuilding in this series, but oh boy does this book top them all. You open Cosmic Heat and are immediately swept away on a journey across a lush, glimmering, mysterious planet with a complex bureaucracy and vividly described flora, fauna, architecture and sentient aliens.

Evans’ does such a wonderful job here balancing a world that feels deliciously alien with small details here and there that feel very relatable to human life. This shines through most of all in the chapters featuring Moss’ point of view, where the voice of the alien romantic hero feels both deeply relatable and still unique and non-human.

The love story here truly is exceptional and I will likely revisit this book because the narrative of two somewhat insecure, occasionally self-doubting queer people falling in love really resonated with me. I loved watching Max and Moss learn, grow, comfort each other through a dramatic and potentially traumatizing event, and ultimately reach their HEA.

I’ll come back to read Evans again and again—they always deliver, and this book is no exception.

Content/Trigger Warnings: Blood, blood consumption, stalking, BDSM dynamics, explicit sex scenes, flogging, talk of breeding kink, drug use, alcohol, brief mentions of sexual harassment (in the past), kidnapping/abduction, attempted murder, grief

Author cw/tw: Drugs for sex, flogging, restraints, heats, tentacles, light BDSM dynamics, switch scenes, attempted murder, stabbing, kidnapping, and more.

I really enjoyed my time reading this book and let me tell you when I say I need more in this series... I HAVE A MIGHTY NEED for more books in this series. Even more so due to so many hints about Madam, but I digress! Max and Moss had such great chemistry and I really loved the way their relationship unfolded. It was also really lovely to see characters from the first two books in this series. My only issue with this book was a scene with Max. I thought it was absolutely wild that Max threw a big tantrum over prioritizing their safety. Everyone was telling them they needed to take precautions and be safe and Max just threw the biggest adult tantrum. It honestly made me dislike their character quite a bit. Overall, this was a really fun time and I enjoyed the way the story unfolded. Moss was absolutely everything and I really hope the author gives us more books in this series soon. I'm not ready to leave this world or these characters yet!

TW - use of drugs for sex, attempted murder, stabbing, kidnapping, breaking and entering incl the destruction of property, (attempted) sexual harassment (past, scs, mentioned)

CW - flogging, restraints, light BDSM, switches, DAP, light breeding, somnophilia, light degradation, edging, hand necklaces, electrical play, biting, pain play

Tropes - paranormal, novella, fated mates

Representation - NBiMC, intersex

We're back with the galactic gems and this time we're following Max's (MMC) story who we met in the previous books and Moss (NBiMC), an alien who is immediately charmed by Max.

This was a quick read and as hot as the rest of Clio's paranormal backlog. The characters quickly come (😏) together and it was nice seeing the progression of their relationship; I also liked the cameos from the characters we've met before. Eager to see what (or who) comes next 👀

Max, sweet baby angel Max. Our little ginger spark of sunshine and kindness. The aerialist, the adorable little fireball.

I really love Max as a character, he is such a genuinely loving person and getting to see him get his shot as a performer in the troupe and not just a stage hand/ assistant to the Madam is amazing. Madam Moonie believing in him and giving him his opportunity to shine really makes me love her more as the matron that she is to the performers.
Max is given the first performance of opening night for his debut as one of the Galatic Gems performers. The Prime spot for catching the eye of one particular Arborian Official.
Moss is smitten from the very first touch, when xe catches sweet Max from falling back stage after a rather awkward introduction. This practically benign touch launched them both into heat. Fate thrusting them together the fastest way she knows how.

I really love the representation in this story. Getting to learn and understand, even a fictional character, who identifies with and uses alternative pronouns, as someone who is nonbinary myself, was really a wonderful experience that I find myself wanting more of in the future. There was a really wonderful dynamic between Max and Moss, that combined with what I think is just the right amount of plot tension for them, culminated in a truly beautiful love story that i wish i could read for the first time all over again.

I felt obligated to read this because I read the first 2 books in this series. It was very good, although it felt shorter than the first 2?

Even though he is a ginger, the author decided to spare us the gingerfication that happens in smuts. Only a touch of I saw his orange hair or bright whatever so it passes in that regard.

I did like the nonbinary alien, but it felt like they did a complete 180 in attitude after the initial meeting (which the book character does address but still). I just gotta say they do have both parts so when they said something along the lines of their clit I was like 🧐 but then I mentally thanked the author that they didn't make up a space word for clitoris lol.

I'm giving this a 3 because I just personally was not very into the xe/xyr/xem stuff, and that's a me problem for sure, but also, it felt like the plot was predictable but the steamy bits were steaming.

I'm curious to see if the author will continue with this series, but I hope she doesn't do the thing where this is an Ice Planet Barbarians situation, lol

Max is finally getting his debut as one of the Gems! After some issues arriving on the planet with their gear getting damaged, one of the Arbor Officials is at the show - Moss - and when Max runs into Moss it sets off a heat between them. Moss takes Max home and they spend 2 days going crazy for each other, while also trying to get to know the other the best they can between the fevered time!

When things settle down, Moss takes Max on a date and they try to discuss their relationship but keep getting interrupted - both feeling so much for the other but not wanting to push things after such a short time, or having to make decisions.

However behind the scenes there is a disgruntled employee that is making threats and causing trouble and tension!

This was my favourite of the series so far! Both characters were so interesting, really loved the description of the planet featured in this one and also the heat was heating!

We return to the sparkling sassy fun world of Galactic Gems by the always awesome Clio Evans. Cosmic Heat is Moss & Max's story. A new galaxy to visit, a new burlesque show to be entertained with, new aliens to learn about & enjoy all of their *special* attributes (dual pėėn§ are only a part of it) & mating rituals. 😏 Max is the newest burlesque performer (previous assistant to Madam Moonie) premiering at the Hörne Forest on the planet Arbor. Moss is the Arborian Transportation Official overseeing a property damage claim filed by Madam Moonie. When Max & Moss first meet - they have instant attraction & mating heat. When Max & Moss have §ëx - H.O.L.Y. S.M.O.K.E.S. 🥵🔥💋 From their meet-cute to all the §ëx to their HEA... L🧡VE IT!! L💜VE IT!! Of course Clio throws in some mystery, danger & more hints about Madam Moonie... 🧐 - which all makes Cosmic Heat another great §ėxƴ read!

This was alright. Compared to other Clio Evans books I’ve read, it wasn’t amazing, but I never hate any of her stories.

For me, the instant horniness just didn’t quite work for me in this particular book. I’m not always opposed to it, but I didn’t quite see the appeal. I wanted a bit more of Max and Moss before they were fucking like bunnies. Sue me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ngl tho, Moss is my second favorite alien design. Xe is a hottie 😮‍💨 Just look at xem on that cover! Xem is only second in aesthetics to my beloved Zin 💖 And I loved Moss’ anatomy too 👀 no complaints there from me, your honor!

What else can I say? 🤔 I think the tension Clio brought near the end of the story was engaging enough. She always manages to squeeze in some plot to keep things interesting and not exclusively horny.

All I can say is…I need more books in this series! 😩 Give me some more aliens, Clio! Especially need me a Madam Moonie book. I adore her!

This series is very consistent. I always like the couple, I always like the sex, and the conflict isn't too distracting from the love story. This troupe is so fun to follow, and I will read as many of these books as the author wants to write. Obviously, Madam Moonie needs her HEA and I'm gonna be so excited to read it.

As for this couple, Max and Moss are super cute. Moss has a unique situation happening in xyr pants. It reminded me of Soul Eater and made the sex versatile. The sex scenes were steamy and sweet at the same time. Instalove usually leads to the lovey dovey dialogue, but it wasn't cringy here. I can definitely see why Max liked Moss from the beginning. Also, Moss is hot on that gorgeous book cover.

Thoughts
As this is a Clio Evans book the spice is amazing but this one lacked even the pretense of a plot or romantic development. The last installment at least had this whole plot-line going on that was interesting this one had me kind of bored at the 50% mark. The characters were barely built so I didn't care about their love story. That didn't really start until the rushed plot line at 60% into the book.

Tropes:
— Fated Mates
— Nonbinary MC
— Alien Romance

Horn Level: 5/5🌶️
Format: Ebook

The Rating
I give this book a 2/5🌟 rating. This book was spicer than the previous two but lacked the spark that made those fun and quirky as well.

I think this would make more sense after reading the previous books, but my library didn't have book 2 and I wasn't TOO lost.

I'm tagging this as mlm for sorting purposes but it's actually m/nb and includes alien genitalia, which I was extremely happy with. Too often a lot of other alien romances are like "he had a dick, and a tail! how weird!" I mean yes that often leads to tail-fucking but c'mon, the aliens should have something a little different downstairs? right????

Anyway this was as hot and heavy as book 1 and just as good. I will be keeping an eye on this author.

Unfortunately the narrator for the twinky lead made him sound like a grating and dramatic gay fop, which was ... not my favorite. But I powered through for the hot sex and the cute story.

YES YES YES YES! These two were adorable and sexy!

It's finally Max's time to shine. He's worked his way to finally becoming a Galactic Gem, finally getting to grace the stage. He's ready. What he's not ready for is bumping into a hot alien official and immediately going into heat with xem. He isn't ready for how perfect they fit together. He isn't ready to say goodbye when the show moves on to the next planet.

Listen, idc what anyone says, Clio Evans is TOP TIER alien/monster romance. She creates fanciful worlds, gives us hot asf monster/aliens WITH amazing special edition "equipment", interesting and action-packed plots, heart-melting romance, and relatable characters.

As for erotic novellas, I think this is one of the nicest I've read.
It's sort of comforting to read about two people who really, really like each other, even if it's insta-lust and semi insta-love.
This novella is queer, explores kinks and consent in a very nice way and has an alien traveling circus, it has it all.

I however wished the performances of the artists, especially Max, were written better because the scenes we see are a bit too bland and they would make a more impactful mark on Max's character. The story was also incredibly generic, but I'm not really here for a complex plot line so I'm not complaining.

This book was everything! I love Max and Moss together so much! Even with how everything began between the two of them, you could just feel from the beginning they were ment to be. The little moments they had together throughout the book were chef’s kiss! The scene where Max brushes Moss’ hair was to me the sweetest thing ever! Moss will do anything in xyr power to protect Max and keep him safe, its so sweet! Moss reminds me of an oversized gentle cuddly teddy bear; starts off grumpy but is really just so loveable and kind!

This was by far my favorite book in this series! This one is a M/NB romance I loved that the author made an alien version of they/them pronouns and that everyone respected the characters pronouns!
I also have so many questions about the elusive madame moonie and I was a madame moonie book. I don’t know if there are any other books planned for this series but I sure hope so because these three books were so dang good!

I LOVED Max and Moss’s story!! They’re just too cute for words. Their story was full of all the feels and I couldn’t help completely falling for them. From their meet cute to their HEA I was swooning for these two. And the chemistry between them…hot dang Clio Evans had me fanning myself one too many times. While the schmexy times was HOT, their emotional chemistry was just a lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

So sweet

I loved Moss and Max’s story so much.

So many sweet moments with angst mixed in because of not communicating what they are feeling. Tons of spice with some plot mixed in with a villain (and not the good kind).

Moss was so sweet and xe (not a misspelling but one of the pronouns used for Moss) was such a good mix of dominant yet soft. Max was vibrant and sassy, but still really sweet as well.

The spice was absolutely delicious, and so well done.

Clio Evans is one of my must-read authors when it comes to monster/alien romance. She always does such a fabulous job of kink representation as well as showcasing different relationships.

Cosmic Heat is a MNBi tale of two lovers coming together under odd circumstances but realizing it’s more than obligation that keeps them together. Max and Moss just click and the heat between them…whoo 🥵.

Can’t wait for more in this series. 💜

This was an entertaining read. The writing in this was very well done and I enjoyed the plot, despite having not read the other books in this series (this works as a standalone). As abrupt as their initial meet-lust was, I liked the way the two MCs dealt with their courtship overall. The main conflict felt a bit forced to me, but I guess they have to have something. Beautiful cover art btw.

Another fun addition to Clio Evan’s’ sexy alien burlesque series! I loved the queerness in this one, and it was short and sweet with just enough plot to make it interesting. Exploring a new planet and culture was also super cool! 4.5 rounded up.

Omg. I like but I didn't love the couple. This follows Max and Moss, Max is about to debut as a new burlesque dancer for the galactic gems. Moss is an government official of the planet they are on. Most of this was enjoyable. The last 40 ish pages just felt rushed.
