Rate this book
This novella is intended for Mature audiences only. There are scenes not suitable for readers under the age of 18.

Thread One, Adina Falling, is the first novella in the Threads of Fate Series.

Best-selling erotica author, Adina LaCroix lives a fairly charmed, normal life. Born a Vampire , Adina is forever 21. She is successful, beautiful and wealthy, the envy of women and the object of desire for men. Her days are occupied with more human pursuits such as writing and avoiding unwanted phone calls from her publisher and her mother. With nightfall, however, her Vampire nature takes over and her hunt for blood and sex consume her.

Wanting to keep her conscience clean, she refuses to kill her prey, usually men with dark secrets. Instead, she uses the gift of mind control to implant permanent fears into her victim’s minds, ones so horrific that they will live in fear of death if they continue their evil ways. It was her way of doing the world a favor.

After her divorce from Michael Diamante, one of the most power-hungry and evil vampires in the world, Adina has remained single. Threats of permanent death from Michael have made her hesitant to find a mate. However, rumors have begun circulating around plans the Elders, the governing body of Vampires, have in store for her.

Plagued by a recurring nightmare, Adina begins a quest for answers. The only problem, instead of finding what she has been looking for; Adina is faced with more questions. Questions in the form of two men, Caleb Locke and Xander Stark.

One man holds promises of undying love and passion while the other holds the key to unlocking her secrets, and maybe even her heart.

My Rating: ★★★½
GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 star book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book is a solid read. I would recommend it to a friend.
My Thoughts:
Adina Falling is a very unique world of vampires created by Melissa Brodsky. Here most vampires are day walkers who have normal jobs and live normal lives. Cleverly, they are not at all like the the vampires that we are used to reading about...in the day. However, at night, their vampiric hungers and desires take over causing them to feel like the vampires that we are used to in our paranormal romances.

Adina LaCroix is a Jewish, vampire, erotic romance author. Very unique. Adina has a lot going on for herself. She is rich, talented, and beautiful. But there are a few things about her, or her life rather, that are not perfect -- like her stalker ex-husband, a relationship-meddling mother, and a group of Elders who wants to mate her off so she can procreate the next generation of baby vamps. What's a vampire to do? Well, what Adina does best drink, party, shop, and have sex...lots of sex. Adina's desires are insatiable and she feeds those desires when they strike. The interlude between her and the Vamp Tramp at Morgan's house was quite an unexpected spicy interlude at that point in the story.

Adina's dreams give an ominous slant to the story. You just know something bad has happened and her dreams are a precursor to worse things to come. The problem is, Adina doesn't know what to do about her dreams. She is shallow and not particularly concerned about the greater good of the vampire race. But, when her dreams reach a crescendo, she realizes that it's time to get help which will lead her directly to the Elders.

The end of the story is quite foreboding. Adina meets HIM. The reader is left to wonder who Xander is but we know...yeah...we know *shiver*.

Adina Falling was a very sexy and interesting story. I liked the premise of the story and hope to see more growth from Adina in the next one. She self-professed herself as shallow many times and I actually didn't care for her at those times because she was wearing her shallow nature like a badge of honor. I'm sure that this is Brodsky's intention because in order to show growth, a character needs a place to grow from. I look forward to reading more in Adina Rising.

… growing up with constant, in-your -face sex can produce two different types of people... a slut or a nun.

Adina Falling is part of a series, ending in a cliff hanger that I didn’t feel the urge to continue. It started off strong, independent-erotic-writer by day and vampire-goddess by night, it was when we started adding in the plot that it lost me, I felt like it was too much too fast, before we got one story built up and solidified, something new was introduced, never really coming to terms with the first one.. Maybe I’ll check out the rest at a later time, but not right now.

4 Steamy Vamp Stars

I did beta read Adina Falling and never did I think it'd be so steamy... Geez, it was pretty hot ladies.

Adina is a vampire and an author for erotica -if she writes about her sex life in her novels no wonder she's a bestseller ;)
She's single and enjoys her life after her marriage, which was more than a mistake, ended . Her ex is literally a psycho that gives you the creeps!! He's still somehwat present in Adina's life... he threatens her because he has his eyes everywhere- seriously creepy!

Her mother is like every mother and tries to play match-maker with her daughter, because if Adina doesn't settle down the vampire elders will match her -and that wouldn't end well. So, Adina has no other choice then to agree to meet Xander for a blind date. A date her mom, of course, organized...

But in between Adina is doing what she does best...satisfying her hunger, but she doesn't just feed off of anybody, no, she has a specific type of men she feeds from. The ones that sin and are the scumbags of society -cheaters, liars, and betrayers.

But this is just a small part of the story...

Adina has nightmares; terrible nightmares that leave her clueless what they could or do mean.... all she remembers from her dreams is this sickening feeling that something is going to happen...something bad. She doesn't see faces in her dreams, besides of one... the face of the most handsome vampire she has ever seen. His body is to-die-for!!

To forget her nightmare Adina goes out clubbing wih her friends where she meets Caleb -LADIES, he's extremely handsome and just wait till you read their hot meet 'n' greet ;) He basically swoops Adina off her feet... But she promised to go on this blind date with Xander...

....little did she know that Xander would play a bigger role in her life than that of just a blind date.

Melissa did a great job writing a steamy novella with modern vampires. Adina is a interesting character and her nightmares leaves you wanting to find out, especially now that those two drop-dead hot men entered her life. I'm really looking forward to read the second book of this series, finding out what Xanders knows and if Adina will end up in a triangle relationship.

I feel like I just started this book five minutes ago! It went so fast, and I couldn’t get enough. When reading an eBook sometimes you don’t realize how far you are compared to a paperback. When I got to the end I was actually sad. Adina Falling is about a vampire, and so much more. She works as an erotica author, and a best- selling one at that. Adina LaCroix is a beautiful young vampire. She was born a vampire, and has the looks of being forever 21. Adina has a lot of pressure on her from all different sources. Her mother is a very over protective obsessive type who calls her constantly; her publisher is also constantly calling her because she never makes her deadlines, and the Elders who eventually will want to set her up in an arranged marriage. The Elders are the oldest form of vampire and they are the law. Adina has a lot happening and fast. She gets a visit from her ex-husband Michael who is crazy, a blind date her mother has set her up on, and a night out with her friends. Adina hasn’t thought much about love after her first marriage went bad, and she has trouble opening up to people so she is just like a character in her books, it’s all about sex and lots of it. When she is least expecting Adina on a night out to the Blue Club with her friends meets a very sexy male vampire named Caleb that might just have the power to steal her heart. What bad timing. Adina still has her blind date the following night, and even tells Caleb about it because she doesn’t want to start their relationship off on a lie. Adina will go from not wanting to fall in love with anyone and being ok with being single to having too men that she is smitten with when she meets Xander her blind date. Who will she choose? Stay tuned for the next book in the Threads of Fate series.

Adina is a Jewish vampire, and a writer of erotica. She’s got a psycho-ex, a determined matchmaking mama, & a sex drive that would probably wear out a vibrator. & whew, will you enjoy the ride, & become a little (lot) jealous!

She picks up only the scourge on society. She doesn’t kill, though. She sucks & f*cks, & then let’s a clean-up crew do whatever to send them on their merry way, but not before she plants a thought in their heads to make them better people. She deserves a medal, or a bottle of wine, or something.

Seeing as this is a first in a series, you know it pissed me off, even though I knew this was a series going into it. I did this to myself, knowing how much I hate cliffhangers. I really enjoyed ¾ of this book. It was the end that turned me off a little. It was fabulous until it turned a little cheese-tastic. Again, that’s on me.

I have no doubt that it will get better with the next book (& you better f*cking believe that I’m going to read the next one.), but if she takes too long to put it out there I’m going to be pissed. ;)

OK, so like I gushed before, I absolutely LOVE Melissa's writing. Her style is so unique because of the way she makes the story come to life right off the pages. She has a very distinct way to make you forget about what is going on around you and only care about what you are reading. Even if it is your kids screaming because they are STARVING!

When the book first opens up, I wasn't sure what I was expecting. I knew I was going to LOVE this book, but I had not even read the blurb to see what the book was about. So, when this bad-ass, sexy vampire chick shows up, I was like....What?!?!

I absolutely, without any reasonable doubt, above and beyond anything I had ever loved, LOVE Adina!! If I was a vampire, I'm telling you, I would be her. She is sexy, smart, erotic, mouthy, and bad-ass all wrapped into one tiny little package. She is the epitome of female vampire. She doesn't want to have a mate at this time. She is so happy and content being on her own to ravish whomever she chooses. Who wouldn't?! Not to mention her ex-husband is a powerful, lunatic vampire!! Ya, I would so be running for the hills and crawling in the first deep dark hole I could find! But not her. No way! She knows he is watching her. She knows he is everywhere she is. So she makes sure he enjoys the show!!

Everything is going so good for her until the day her ex shows up on her doorstep. Not only was she not expecting him, she certainly didn't expect what he had to tell her. He knows all about the blind date she is going on. And he wants to make sure she doesn't go on it. His threats are lost to her once she realizes whatever it is that makes him so upset about her going also scares him! She has never seen him scared of anything. All the more reason for her to go!!

I hate her ex-husband. Right down to the very pit of my soul. He makes me want to rip out my intestines, eat them, digest them, poop them out, and swallow them again; only to go through this process until there is nothing left of them. He makes me that sick!! I LOVE you Melissa for making by far the best bad guy in a book....EVER! He is so arrogant, powerful, and sexy which makes me hate him all the more! Only because I would jump him the minute he walked through my door! HA

During all of this, there is something happening. The Fae are disappearing at an alarming rate; a problem her best friend tells her about. Adina has reason to believe her ex-husband is behind it as he makes a drug using Fae blood that is getting everyone addicted. Even she was when they were married; this being how he kept control of her. She keeps having this recurring dream about being in a vampire execution camp. Her only saviour, a very handsome vampire with long dark hair and piercing blue eyes reaching his hand to her. A hand she can never reach. She doesn't know what it means or whether it might be connected to the disappearing Fae so she reaches out to the Elders for help. Only to find out they are holed up in an unknown location. There is definitely something going on!

Before her date, Adina meets another man, Caleb; a vampire which whom wants the same fun she does the night she meets him. What she doesn't expect is this Adonis of a man gets down into the pit of her soul; a place no one has ever been. She doesn't know what to expect with him. She only knows she wants nobody but him for the rest of eternity. How could life get any better?

Caleb is what I consider to be the male vampire package that I would envision when I become one some day. I would let him capture me, torture me, and then lovingly lick up every last drop! Holy mother of God!! Melissa sure knows how to make them so yummy. No matter if they are good or bad!! LUM LUM LUM

So, Adina decides to go on her blind date anyway. With the blessing of Caleb of course. After her arrival, she feels strange. She is scanning the crowd for a man all his lonesome. She doesn't even hear him approach. As she turns around to face him, her whole life falls apart.

What an excellent cliffhanger!!! I simply cannot wait for the next book in December. It can't come fast enough!! Melissa has done an excellent job yet again. Yes, the story starts a little slow but it is necessary. There are so many things that are need-to-know because of how the story plays out. Do not get discouraged!! You will not be sorry!!

This book is the must read of the Fall season!! Do not waste your time or money on anything else! Get your copy of this book! This is a very well deserved 5 stars!!

I was asked to give my honest opinion on this book so here goes...!

I really liked this book! It was a tad short for my liking. But that's a novella I suppose. Also I was enjoying it that much I didn't want it to end. And I'm now dying for book two, which I'm hoping will be longer :) Be warned though, this book is not for the faint hearted. It is erotic from the get go,so just be warned if that's not what you like in a book avoid it.

The book is based around a 34 year old vampire Adina. She is 34 but looks 21 as thats when her vampire body stopped ageing. She is a birthed vampire, she wasn't just turned into one. Adina's life was good growing up but it was no fairy tale. Her dad ran out on her and her mam when she was just a kid. So her mam filled the void by acting out. Orgies where a normal thing for Adina to be around growing up. And at a certain age she started joining in on them behind her mam's back. With all that said she still had a good childhood. Just not the everyday run of the mill kind. The book start's off with her out on the prowl. Looking for a midnight snack if you will. Now Adina is no monster. She never kills her victim's,just takes what she needs and erases there memory.

Adina is an erotic writer in the book. Can you blame her after all the things she seen growing up? But she loves what she does and she always did have a way with words. She's loving her life now that she's away from her asshole husband Micheal. The less said about him the better. But there are laws with her kind. When you reach a certain age and your not with someone creating kids you get paired up to start. So her mother ends up setting her up on a blind date with a bloke called Stark. Now there is nothing more she hates then her mother trying to set her up,okay that's a lie she hates her Micheal her ex more. But she agreed to go just to shut her up.

Now don't ask me how but the ass ex finds out and comes to see her all guns blazing and warns her to stay away from him. BUT what she notices for what maybe the first time ever is fear in Micheal's eyes. Who is this Stark bloke and why is Micheal afraid of him? No matter what Micheal says she has to go and see.

But the night before she goes on this blind date she decides to paint the town red(no pun intended) and go dancing with friends. NOW this is where she meets Caleb. Caleb is just amazing and the connection is instant. Do you believe in love at first sight? That's exactly what Adina thinks. There night together is amazing. So she just wants to get this blind date over with so she can get with Caleb. Well that is until she meets Stark....... ;)

This was the first book by Melissa Brodskey that I have read. The novella started out really good. I enjoyed learning about her vampire world and how Adina has a part that is obvious in the forward movement of it but hasn't yet been revealed.

Ms. Brodskey's writing style was an easy read and flowed well. It was a breeze to get through and presented in a way that made me want to see what happened throughout the story.

I was a little lost with the scene of Adina and Caleb. I felt this whole part of the story-line was rushed through and then when the Xander factor thrown in I just got a bit lost. The first half of the book was drawn out perfectly then to have this rushed was disappointing.

The way the story ended made me want to go out in search of the next book. I want to know how Michael is involved with the Elders and why he is trying to control Adina so much. I'd like to see more of the mother too. I think I would like that character a lot.
I also wanted to note that while this is a novella inside the erotic genre - I didn't think the sexual scenes were too consuming. They had a purpose and it moved something along in the story. I liked how it was presented and really enjoyed the way Adina sampled from both genders. It was presented very well.

All in all this is a 3.5 star read for me. Had the ending not been rushed and more drawn out like the first half it would have been an easy 4 star. I just wanted more.

This is a great erotica with paranormals. However, it reads more like a prequel to the whole series and it cannot stand on its own as one story. It mainly serves as an introduction to all the key players and the mystery of disappearing paranormals, which may lead to the enslavement and eradication of supernatural beings by humans.

The story introduces Adina, a brewing conflict against vampires, and her crazy ex-husband. Her two love interests comes at the last few pages. I love the intrigue and mystery surrounding one of her love interests. Adina never actually meets him until the last page, but we get snippets of the amount of influence and relations that this unknown character has. This is really well done. The other love interest is a total surprise for me.

Even though it has a cliffhanger ending, the story is fast paced and the build up of mystery and suspense is wonderfully done in the breaks from the erotica. I look forward the sequel.

Adina is a vampire, forever stuck at twenty-one, who writes erotica for a living and has a more than healthy sex drive. Everything is going smoothly in her life of independence until her mother decides Adina needs a blind date, and Adina’s abusive ex-husband threatens her.

The cover is absolutely stunning.

Unfortunately, it left me with a higher expectation for this novella. It took me a while to warm up to Adina. I’m not sure why. She seemed a bit... too confident, too shallow perhaps? It pushed me away, and she didn't have a lot of time to grow into someone more mature, so she remained static throughout the story. Although I didn’t dislike Adina Falling , I wasn’t overly drawn in by the writing. That being said, there were certainly elements that kept me reading. As a story on its own, I didn’t feel that there was a complete arc; rather, it felt like the introduction to something longer, like Part One of a serial. It wasn't just the cliffhanger, but I felt like nothing was really accomplished. Consequently, I was left unsatisfied. I might read more by this author in the future, but I don’t feel pressed to.

Pleasantly Surprised

I was hooked from the get go. Adina, a erotica writer had her defenses up due to a highly abusive marriage. Adina, is successful and only out to have fun. She is shallow and materialistic but she knows herself and doesn't hide these things about her. I believe that is part of the reason I find her likeable. We get a brief moment to meet Michael, her ex husband, who is powerful and evil to the core. Although her mom is a vampire, she is like a normal mom calling multiple times a day and only wanting the best for her daughter. There were some grammar issues toward the end of the book. I liked how the vampires were evolving. This was a new take that I haven't read before. I will definitely be reading the next book to see how Adina's blind date turns out, especially since her ex husband forbids her to stay away from this guy. This book is full of erotic sexual scenes, so beware for excitement or someone looking over your shoulder.

Melissa did a great job with bringing Paranormal into an erotica romance. Adina is a fascinating character that is not really looking for true love-she is enjoying life and all it has to offer.

Beware Melissa has some very steamy scenes in her New "Threads of Fate" series. I am really looking forward to her Part 2 to find out what truly is going on with Adina's x-husband Michael and her very sexy date Xander.

It is really nice to have a "fresh" Vamp series and looking forward to more from Melissa!!!

Thank you Melissa !
