Spooky!

Amy Cross has regained her mojo!!! This penultimate episode of the Hadlow House series was a particularly dark and ghostly tale. A naive, but highly enthusiastic, couple purchase the ruins of Hadlow House with the intention of turning it into a boutique hotel and spa. What could possibly go wrong? Just about everything as it happens. We also discover the true and sad tale of Fanny Baxter and something of the dark entity that controls her. The one redeeming feature of this tale is that someone finally escapes Fanny's clutches and, perhaps, they return in the final episode to exact revenge! Well done Amy Cross.

This felt weird.

It's like reading the same story for the 4th (?) time.

We have different characters, but they present simmilar roles as the ones in previous entries. Even the haunting aspects seem to follow the exact same pattern.

I didn't dislike it, but I'm glad that there's only one book left.

Is she seriously going to go back to the most haunted house in history? Beth escapes at her sisters urging, but is she going to be Hadlow houses latest victim or will she succeed in ending its reign of terror? Can't wait for the next book to finally find out!

This book was ok. It had it's problems. The plot was interesting but seemed to be lacking. I think it could be better.
The characters never expressed concerns about some things I think they should have.

As much as I've had a good time with this series, its very much started to feel samey and repetitive. I'm glad to have left the Demeters behind but the Cooper family moving in, being so determinately unreceptive to the townspeople's warnings and then in record time being obliterated was somewhat frustrating to read.

I wish the haunting was a slower burn and that we could get time with the family to care, for them to start to slowly realise and for technology to play a part. In 300 years of story we haven't seen any sceances, ghost hunting or much of the traditional hauntings (save for maybe in 1926). I love the concept of this series much more than the execution because there's so much more it could be.

Also, what happened to the puppy??

I'm curious to see how this all ties up in 2024, but my expectations aren't super high.

This book introduces a new family to Hadlow house and we see a little more of what consists of the evil one/Fanny. More is coming to light and I hope that the next and also the last book of the series gives the answers we need for closure rather than a good ending or sad ending. Again the characters are great but I do wish we knew a little more about what happened with Baily.

The Cooper family buys Hadlow House, and they plan to turn it into a retreat and spa. They researched the houses history and still was foolish enough to go ahead and buy it any way. The youngest, Beth, is the only one to survive because she wasn't at the house she was in the hospital. Her sister Annie saved her, but she wound up killing herself to do it. Will the ghosts be able to help when the time comes to take down the other entity who has been confirmed and is older then any one knows?

Well, Mary/Fanny sure didn't waste any time tearing this family apart. I don't think they were in Hadlow House for more than a week before she exerted her influence. Will Beth do as Annie told her and never return there, or will Mary/Fanny prove to be right in her assumption that Beth will return? After all, they always have.

Almost done with this series! I was so creeped out when Annie saw the eye staring at her through the crack in the basement floor. Goosebumps!! On to 2024! Will Beth figure out what has really been haunting Hadlow House for the last 300 years? We shall see.

This poor family made a big mistake buying this place. Fanny is now after them. The chase is on, and will there be any survivors?

Thanks to this book I can't hate Fanny as much as I have hated it. It was a sad book especially since I was rooting for Annie 😔 I am really looking forward to the final one!

how many times are we going to do the exact. same. thing.

oh, is that another dad over there, staring at a wall aimlessly with a ghostly hand on his shoulder, while being convinced to kill his wife?

whaaaat?! that definitely has not been done in this series… absolutely not four times.
