The story kind of went downhill, in my opinion. It had lost its edge, I think. I wanted (and expected) it to be darker. As it is, I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped for. Although that's also kind of my fault, I should have learned by now not to put a lot of expectations on books.
There were a lot of times when I felt frustrated while reading. For example, when the guys dismissed Darcy when they no longer had any real use of her. It just happened and I did not have enough time to get over being angry with them, when BAM - sex scene. That made me feel even angrier, because the time so wasn't right for that to happen.
Also, I think everyone expected Aunt Sarah to act as she did, so the least those guys could (and should) have done, was check her things. They didn't, so again - frustrated at their stupidity.
However, the ending made me feel hopeful that the next book will be better. I really hope it'll be.

After reading the first book I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next bad boy, and whilst it was great I didn’t love it as much as the first one. Unfortunately, I think that’s because of young Darcy who I adored in the first book, but now she seems a bit too immature and stubborn for my liking. There’s nothing wrong with a headstrong MC, however, a downright dumb and emotional one is another story!
Darcy can’t let the thought go that they need to go get her aunt and protect her, and no amount of valid points from her group of men can convince her that it’s best to leave her aunt alone (hello, the aunt was just fine in the first book, and bringing more attention to her while an insane FBI agent is keeping tabs on her can’t seem like a good, or even reasonable idea to anyone). However, Darcy marches to the beat of her own drums and it’s a futile attempt from anyone to not just give in straight away. So off they go, and they get a hold of the aunt. However, again I feel there’s a problem with the plot because as cautious as these guys are it never occurs to anyone to check if the aunt is bringing any trackable device into their hiding place. Darcy who claims she’s so concerned for her aunt also shows serious flaws in her judgement when she chooses to have some sexy times with one of the guys, instead of taking care and looking after the same aunt she was so desperate to go get.
I love Marissa Farrar's writing, her style is amazing and really unique, but in this book I developed a strong dislike for our darling MC, which I hope will improve in the next book.

REVIEWED AS A SERIES - MILD SPOILERS.
I read this series as the kindle version of the box set, so I read continuously through the four books. Normally this is something I like to do, but with this series I would recommend having a short break half way through. I suggest this, just to let some anticipation and interest build back up before diving back in.
My 4 star rating is for the series as a whole. The first book is definitely one of the better books in the series - for me anyway. There were times when I cringed a bit at the beginning with things Darcy did/felt towards her kidnappers, but it all changes as you learn more about them and her synesthesia is really interesting, not something I've heard of before.
I think my favourite of the series is when Darcy is a bit self-sacrificial and we truely get to see how strong willed, determined and resourceful this girl is. This is probably the main reason I would consider reading this series again, purely for this instalment which I loved.
As the books all span over a short time frame, I did find them dragged out in some places and rushed in others. The times where the team interacts with Hollan at various stages felt repetitive (until the last one of course), there were a few twists and turns I didn't see coming, but the ending of the Hollan saga I felt to be quite predictable and the events shortly after this which closed the series, while surprising, felt rushed.
All in all a 4 star series, and I would recommend to RH lovers.

Unraveling Darkness: A Reverse Harem Romance (Dark Codes #2)

Again another brilliant read by Marissa Farrer. Full of action and lots of sexual encounters. Nobody does sex like Marissa. You are always guaranteed a good steamy session.
But Marissa's books always have volume to them as well, there is always a good solid plot written very well with great imagination.
For me who loved book #1 Hacking Darkness... This was even better. I went through this book in 24 hours and have been left reeling for more. Book #3 is very much awaited here.
We pick up where Hacking darkness finished. Darcy is back with the Five guys who are just completely swoon-worthy. I actually love the idea of Darcy being with them all. Usually, with books, I'm like for goodness sake... Just pick one. But this is written in such a way that for me it's completely acceptable to have Five men instead of one. I thoroughly enjoyed the story-line. and I am in love with the relationship side of this book. I'm struggling for words to write a coherent review and fully express how it made me feel, without also giving anything away. So I am going to leave it here. And just say I LOVED it... I very highly recommend it... And I can't wait to read on with Book #3 which I think releases just after Christmas 2017.

Darcy is in deep now. She has given the code to her guys and wants to be a full member of the team. In every way. If only they knew where the memory stick was. They have to lure Hollan to them in order to find it but first Darcy wants to make sure her aunt is safe. She can't lose anyone else. Hopefully, her aunt feels the same way.
So many plotholes. ****Spoilers ahead. Darcy insists on abducting her aunt for her own safety. The exact same act she resented the boys doing to her. Then they allow an obviously suspicious Aunt Sarah to be alone and pack her own bag. They never check her for a phone, then take her and Darcy, two people without security clearances to their super-secret base. There she's able to trick the highly trained agents and walk out while Darcy is having random sex with one of the guys she was so hurt and angry that she cried. These may be the good guys but they do not instill any faith. Highly trained they are not. And then there's Darcy. Too much angsty inner dialogue. Insight should not be irritating. Again, I don't feel any connection between Darcy and her guys and her inner musings don't help. I have the series, so I will keep going. Hopefully, Darcy will have some character growth and there will be some true relationship development, not only random sex.

For everyone who tuned in for a reverse harem, move along. If instead you were looking for a book with even the mildest amount of substance you should quit now.
The first book had me engaged. The characters acted within a realm of reasonable behaviors outside of the constant reverse harem criteria.
It's like the author forgot that they were writing about a group of special ops trained individuals. The crap with Aunt Sarah just had me so irritated. She clearly stalled at the house, nobody checked her bags before they left and she was obviously trying to interfere with their escape. Because you know, the helicopter taking off immediately after she was left alone wasn't an indicator. I have no confidence that I'm going to continue reading a story that's going to have any level of substance.
I finished the first book but only made it about 65% through the second book before I called it quits. I don't like stupid.

This is the second book in the series. We pick up after an exciting scene ending with Darcy confessing something she's been hiding. If you haven't read the first one, I highly recommend you start there as it would take away a bit from the story line not to be aware of how Darcy and the guys have gotten to where they are.
Much like the first book in the series, this is a fast paced read. I also recommend you allow your self plenty of time, because you are not going to want to put it down. I am very much enjoying delving into this crazy world where the good guys are the bad guys and the bad guys turn out to be the good guys. To be completely honest, I've already read the next book in the series and plan to leave my review for it next... I just couldn't wait to read it long enough to write my review!

Not usually my genre but was offered books 1 and 2 on a freebie site. Book 2 continued with action but was conflicting as it progressed. Darcy seemed to embed herself into the group of her kidnappers believing in their cause. Despite promises of no harm, Isaac breached this through his public sexual contact. More poor decisions and trust on Darcy's part, especially involving her aunt, put the group into danger which appeared somewhat gullible and naive on their part as the story progressed. Since it is a four-book series, the endings were always inconclusive, luring the reader to purchase the next book. Though, for someone who doesn't mind casual sexual contact, much action and/or an anti-government narrative, the books lures one to tantalizing scenarios for those who preferred this genre.

Outstanding Story!!!!!!!
The second book basically starts where the first book ends. The story continues with Darcy and the guys trying to find the memory stick and how they are going to do that. This book is packed with action drama and suspense. It kept me glued to it. I love that we get tiny glimpses of the guys and what has occurred during their lives. At times Darcy doesn’t really think but reacts first and those moments really turn the story in one way or another. The story is extremely well written and developed. The flow of the story is smooth and definitely pulls you in. We then get to the end of this book with an extremely major cliffhanger. I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next.

No real substance
While I felt the first book was rushed but ok, this book just fell flat. The sexual encounters just seemed random, as did many of the conversations, to the point where I was so taken out of the world, I was left thinking who says that, who does that, how is this happening?
The relationships with the guys do not feel organic or believable. It reads like this author had a decent idea for a story line, an outline of the group, decided on a reverse harem theme and then just couldn't manage to connect everything together. There's no real connection, nothing believable enough that you're invested in the characters and immersed in the world.

Such a fantastic and exciting series!
These books just get better and better! I love this series and the storyline is sooo great! It’s nice to find a true RH series with an actual story and relationships, not just a bunch of sex with s bunch of guys! Darcy keeps making stupid decisions, but the guys keep letting them slide.
But now the big-wigs are involved, not just Issac, Clay, Kingsley, Lorcan and Alex. Devlin, their boss, is now directly in on the planning and has explained what’s on the memory stick. So Farcy knows she has to fix her latest mistake and get her hat info.
Can’t wait to see what’s next!

This is the second book in this series and I advice you to read the first book before this one. So this book picks up from the cliffhanger of the first book Hacking Darkness.Darcy is a good character and see her work her way through all the obstacles that are in her way. We learn more about her kidnappers! and their organization. There are a few big twists in this book and of course it ends with another cliffhanger but not long to wait fr book three. I voluntarily read an ARC copy fo this book for my honest review.

Darcy is really starting to bond with the men and get with the program so to speak. The only thing that worries her is her aunt being unprotected.
While each book has plenty of action, the author is really taking time to create the characters and develop the relationships. It is a real buildup to each connection.
As with the end of the first book, you really look forward to seeing what is next for them all. It is not predictable and offers you plenty of surprises.

Loving it!*
Better than the first one!! Darcy and her men Alex, clay, lorcan, Kingsley and issac♡ back for round two!! More twist and turns more drama and heat. I love where this story is heading and I'm getting closer to hopefully seeing Darcy get her justice. I have read the first two books in the series and I won't stop till I am finished. I love the authors writing style and love she has put into rhe characters and the details that keep me coming back. This is another 4.8 read for me. Issac is definitely growing on me.♡♡♡

Thrilling!
The story progressed nicely in the second book of this thrilling Dark Codes series by Marissa Farrar. However I feel there was too much explanation going on in places that wasn't needed, and quite a bit repetition throughout. But I like the storyline and the characters so I'll gladly carry on until the end. And of course this is only my opinion, others may not even notice or mind my bugbears.

I was digging the plot line and how things were going. The five guys were all different in their own ways (though equally hot) and interesting....but Darcy—and her aunt—really started acting dumb, bringing things down and just annoying the crap out of me. I’m not even totally sure why—their skepticism is understandable—but I just kept wanting to reach into the book and slap them both upside the head while shouting “fine! Go, get yourselves killed! I hope you die and no one helps!!”

This is book 2 of the Dark Codes series and I’m glad to see that the pace picks up a little bit. This still follows the story of Darcy and her “kidn@ppers” and the memory stick. We get quite a few questions answered from the previous book. I kind of wish Aunt Sarah wasn’t even apart of this book because I just really dislike her character. Hopefully she will be redeemed. There is a pretty big cliffhanger so I’m ready to jump into the next book!

Interesting
Darcy’s story continues. I like that Darcy is a strong character, and we get to see her relationship with the guys grow. I did think that considering the guys paranoia with Darcy up until now, that I was strange that they don’t take any precautions with her aunt. I am interested in seeing where this story goes and will be picking up book 3.

This exciting series continues and Darcy does not know who to trust, just as she is starting to trust the guys someone tries to change her mind
The excitement and drama grows, with twists you just do not see coming and her relationship with some of the guys changes and the chemistry is electric

Character flaws
This is the second book where we get to know the characters. I liked the guys they were so diverse. Which worked for their dynamic. We get in deeper to the plot of how she fits in the situation with her father and Hollan. I wonder what happens with her Aunt in the next book

September 25, 2020This second installment of the Dark Codes series did not disappoint. I enjoyed the continuation of the storyline started in the first book. I think the relationship between our heroine (Darcy) and her men is developing in an expected way. We are left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of this book though, so, don't think you can just stop reading after book 2.

I was glad that she was finally like “oh i can remember numbers what good is that” but there are some odd plot points for sure. I am still reading through the series so that’s gotta count for something. Can someone please explain what the point of the sleepy encounter with Alex is… like are we just ignoring whatever that was… why include it.

This book picks up right from the cliffhanger of book one. Darcy is an amazing character and we get to see her determination to get through all the obstacles in her way. We learn more about the guys and their organization. This book is less dark but that's expected since she is not being held hostage by the guys anymore. These books get better and better. I love the connections between them and the mystery of what is going on... Aunt Sarah had me unhappy from the beginning and I was pretty sure I knew what would happen but it didn’t take away from the story.

Was interested in the first book but just really couldn’t get into this one. Darcy just went from being someone you could get behind as a main character to someone who was more of a spoiled brat.

It’s official I am addicted to this series. Not much to say, except for the book is awesome and I now have to read book 3. But she was just as good if not better than book one, so keep going like me.

not sure what to say first.
I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I did the first one. I don’t agree with the MFC a lot so that’s frustrating, I’d really like to read more character & relationship development, not just keep barging on and making dumb mistakes.
