A short story set in the Afghan war of 1879. William Dexter is a young cavalry officer about to experience the brutality of war up very close and very personal.

The cantonment at Sherpur is about to be besieged by thousands of savage tribesmen and defeat is unthinkable.The carnage that will be unleashed as men on horseback face artillery and the revolutionary new gatling guns will scar the survivors for life. However it is out on the mountains that the true horrors of this conflict will change Dexter for ever.
