In With Love from Bliss, Kerry Ferne, a precocious orphan taken in by her Aunt Charlotte, finds happiness for the first time and deep and abiding friendships with her maid, Gladdy, and her new "sister," the frail Franny. When a loved one's death seems spurred by an act of casual cruelty, Kerry is driven by revenge to an act far beneath her. She is stopped short, however, when love surprises her.
Two adopted children grow into loving adults who enjoy each others company. When one finds a suitor in far away in Canada's wilderness, and is subsequently rejected, the other vows to go there and get revenge for her friend. Delightful read. I am looking for the other book in the series.
Good read but disappointed it did not connect more with first book in series. Will probably read the third book to see if it connects with previous characters.
The writing style was very different from most writers... reminiscent of language Jane Austin would have used. I personally like this sort of style, but it is so old fashioned, I fear many of today's readers won't get it, or appreciate her creative writing. Lovely!
Kerry, orphaned and sent to live with an aunt she never knew, was a lonely child who had spent a lot of time alone with little but the Bible to read. Having read it so many times she memorized large chunks of it and spouted quotes, often with no rhyme or reason to it, she had people wondering about her.
In this home were two other girls; Gladdy, a servant, and Frances, another niece in very poor health most of her life. The friendship these girls developed was as close as sisters.
Frances' health had a couple of upturns when she thought she was in love, but on the second lost love (a romance through correspondence) her health took a nose dive.
Kerry and Gladdy end up traveling thousands of miles to seek out the man who jilted their friend, and make him pay.
Book 2 in the Saskatchewan series this book follows the life of an orphan taken in by her wealthy aunt. Because she was neglected even before her parents died Kerry would spend hours reading the bible to stay out of the way and as a result would quote scripture to make conversation. Franny was also taken in by aunt Charlotte and the two girls along with the maid Gladdy become great friends. When Franny dies after being slighted by a man in the Canadian bush Kerry and Fran set out for revenge but find so much more.
This book uses vivid descriptions of the Canadian landscape that makes you feel like you are there experiencing what the characters see and smell. I enjoy the scripture that was so much a part of the telling of this story.
#2 in the series. Set in the bush country of Canada during the expansion into the territories. Kerrie is orphaned when her ne'er do well father passes and is taken in by an aunt and her husband. Interesting look at the life of homesteaders in that period. Christian fiction.
