When Alex and Emma take refuge at Ocean Isle, an idyllic and picturesque island along the North Carolina coastline, it all seems too good to be It is a place where Alex, a writer, can settle down and finish his novel. It is a place where he and Emma, the gothic beauty he is protecting, can hide and blend in. They can become faceless . . . safe. Their one and only worry is whether or not the tiny island can contain Emma's insatiable and forbidden hunger. And now the deadly forces they so desperately tried to elude have at last tracked them down. Alex and Emma won't be happy to see them coming . . . but they're coming just the same.
Ocean Isle author, Kevin Pickell's debut novel is a dark and twisted tale of vampires and revenge. If you're a lover of book-induced adrenaline rush and things that go bump in the night this is the book for you.
Mr. Pickell does an exceptional job of pulling the reader into the story. His attention to detail, descriptions and imagery make the surroundings of his characters come to life. His characters are well developed and their objectives are very clear.
If you are a fan of multiple points of view, you'll want to pick up this book. The story is told from three perspectives; Alex, a novelist in love with a vampire, Archie, a bad cop prone to violent tendencies and Wayne, an ex-con intent on revenge (bad medicine). I loved the way the book flipped back and forth between the three men, each with distinct personalities.
The story was plotted with care and well-written with many unexpected twists and turns. It moves at a fast pace and is action packed. The ending is mind blowing - never saw it coming!
If you're looking for something dark and twisted and enjoy being scared out of your wits, give Kevin Pickell's Ocean Isle a try, it's a 5-star read!
This is a vampire story going back to its roots. No sunny vampires here.
Emma is a vampire and Alex is her boyfriend/caretaker. They were lovers before she was turned and he chose to stay with her and protect her during the day. They are on the run from the coven and Alex finds out about Ocean Isle, where murderers could go to hide and never be found, from a bartender and decides that will be the best place to stay hidden and to finish his book.
The story bounces the POV from Alex, Archie (a cop who also likes to beat women), and Wayne (an ex-con just released out to get revenge). As these three come together, the dark, gory, twisted tale unfolds.
