Romeo. Boy Toy. Player. I’ve heard what they call me, and never gave it much thought.
Then Zoe walks in with her library smarts and innocent eyes and one helluva dirty idea.
I guess living in hospitals for two decades didn’t leave much time for dating.
Or any kind of fun, really.
Zoe’s a virgin with a bucket list, and guess who’s on it?
No way am I satisfying her desires.
She’s my boss’s little sister-in-law, and besides.
I’m maxed out with my sick dad and a secret I’m not ready to share.
I’ll help with the unsexy things on Zoe’s list.
Problem is, everything from a foul-mouthed pinball machine to my dopey dog keep conspiring to push us together.
Even cooking class and an oddly sexy oil change lead straight to temptation.
Girls like Zoe don’t end up with guys like me.
It’s basic math even this high school dropout can do.
So how come I can’t stay away?
Don't miss this laugh-out-loud steamy romance about a notorious ladies’ man lending a hand (and ahem…other parts!) to help his boss’s little sister ditch her v-card.
When Tawna Fenske finished her English lit degree at 22, she celebrated by filling a giant trash bag full of romance novels and dragging it everywhere until she’d read them all. Now she’s a RITA Award finalist, USA Today bestselling author who writes humorous fiction, risqué romance, and heartwarming love stories with a quirky twist. Publishers Weekly has praised Tawna’s offbeat romances with multiple starred reviews and noted, “There’s something wonderfully relaxing about being immersed in a story filled with over-the-top characters in undeniably relatable situations. Heartache and humor go hand in hand.”
Tawna lives in Bend, Oregon, with her husband, step-kids, and a menagerie of ill-behaved pets. She loves hiking, snowshoeing, standup paddleboarding, and inventing excuses to sip wine on her back porch. She can peel a banana with her toes and loses an average of twenty pairs of eyeglasses per year. To find out more about Tawna and her books, visit www.tawnafenske.com.
In Tawna Fenske’s third book in the Cherry Blossom Lake series, Zoe finally has her moment to shine. After a lifetime of illness, she’s in remission and giving the all clear from her doctor to start enjoying everything life has to offer.
She immediately puts together a list of must do activities, and decides to jump right in and join her sister and her fiancée on a seaside adventure learning how to dig for clams. And during her double entendre filled lesson with Cal- her sisters fiancé’s friend and employee, she decides there’s no one better than the ladies man to help cross the items off her list.
What neither of these two anticipate is all the feelings they manage to catch during what is supposed to be a fun filled fling.
Hold Me is filled with all of the things I enjoy about Fenske’s books. Steamy chemistry, lots of laugh out loud humor and a core of a supportive family. Throw in my favorite snarky tween and an aging chihuahua, and you can’t got wrong. I can’t wait to learn what’s in store for the rest of the Spencer-King siblings and friends.
I loved, loved Zoe and Carl’s opposites attract, virgin, learning new things tutor, just a fling romance with a side of all the really big feels. This story had the perfect balance of snort worthy laughs, heartwarming love, real life issues, and heat up the room spice. And the double entendres will have you sniggering through whole sections of the book. Zoe is a sweet, quirky and naive 24 year old. Her chronic and life threatening medical condition has forced her to live an insular life and now that she’s finally in remission without any restrictions, she’s ready to do all the things on her recently penned ”normal” life list. Carl is sweet, handsome and a good guy who is the first mate on Zoe’s sister’s fiancée’s boat. With Carl’s reputation as a lady’s man, Zoe thinks he’s the perfect person to learn all the things from. Of course, feelings quickly complicate their initial agreement for him to help her cross things off her list. There is baggage unpacking and messy mistakes and beautiful character growth. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit uncomfortable in their skin because they don’t feel like they fit in or are worthy, like Cal. So I love when they finally see their truth and their worth, and they get swoon worthy HEAs. I loved the twist that it was the MMC who thought he was only good for a night but not for forever, rather than the FMC. As always with this author, this deceptively deep romcom will give you all the swoony swoons while also pulling at your heartstrings with all the emotions. I am loving this series filled with relatable characters that are really just trying to do their best as messy humans who are learning to show up as the best versions of themselves. I can’t wait to read Kaleb’s book next.

I first heard about Tawna Fenske in August of 2015 when her book "About That Fling" was featured as a "Kindle First." I have fallen in love with the way that she tells a story. Her characters are fun, and even ones you may not like at first tend to grow on you. Since then, I have read anything that I have found by Tawna.
After being introduced to Zoe in “Try Me,” I was so excited to read a book that was focused on her new life, that she was finally able to experience. I was also anticipating getting to read more about Cal. I enjoyed this book a great deal.
I have to say that Tawna is my favorite romantic comedy writer. One of the best things about a Tawna Fenske book is that, while there can be serious moments and subject matter, there will always be moments that make you absolutely laugh out loud. This book was no exception. I’m even more excited to read the next book in the series and see what is next for the Spencer-King family!
**A received an advanced reader copy for my honest review**
I just got back from another trip to Cherry Blossom Lake, and Hold Me, the third installment of the Spencer-King family (and their significant others) series, and I’m already counting the days until the fourth book is released. While these books can stand-alone, it’s such a treat to get to know all the characters and continue on their journeys with them.
Hold Me is the story of Zoe, who is the sister of Cassidy (from the first book in the series, Try Me, and now engaged to Jake Spencer-King). Zoe has spent much of her 24 years in hospitals, fighting a life-threatening illness, which is now in remission. Zoe finally has the chance to live life to the fullest and on her own terms, and that includes fulfilling all the things on her ever-growing bucket list. While she’s still getting physically stronger, she is also one of Tawna Fenske’s trademark emotionally bold, quirky, and sometimes brutally honest female characters. She may be a bit naïve and unsure at times, but she’s smart as a whip.
High on Zoe’s list, which also includes nabbing her dream job at the local library, is to lose her virginity, and that’s where Cal comes in. Cal works for Jake and has quite the reputation as a delicious and exceptionally talented “swordsman,” and of course Zoe wants the best for her first time. Neither Zoe nor Cal are looking for a relationship. Zoe wants to make up for lost time, and Cal is battling his own demons, while thinking that he’s the guy women just want to sleep with, but not love.
What begins as a student/tutor relationship and friendship (Cal also teaches Zoe how to change the oil on her car, cook, and dig for razorback clams, among other things) soon blooms into so much more. However, all is not light, sex, and laughter—although there is plenty of that, thanks to Tawna’s razor-sharp wit, and laugh-out-loud dialogue and scenarios. What I also appreciate is that Tawna creates characters who are often carrying baggage, whether it’s grief, a learning disability, a history of verbal abuse, or alcoholism, and in her deft and very compassionate hand we get to know the “whole person” and be a part of their healing and growth. It’s a delight to watch Zoe and Cal navigate unfamiliar territory while coming to terms with their pasts, thanks in part to the support of friends and family. I can’t wait to return to Cherry Blossom Lake for Kaleb’s story! I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy and am happy to provide this honest review.
HOLD ME is the third instalment Tawna Fenske’s contemporary, adult CHERRY BLOSSOM LAKE erotic, romance series. This is twenty-four year olds, fisherman / crabber Cal Cornish, and library worker Zoe Brooks’ story line. HOLD ME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Zoe and Cal) HOLD ME follows the building romance and relationship between our story line couple. Zoe Brooks has struggled all of her life with severe medical issues but a clean bill of health finds our heroine working on a bucket list of things to do. Meeting fisherman and town manwh*re pushes Zoe to make an offer Cal can’t refuse, an offer to help fulfill her list of sexual needs. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Zoe and Cal, and the potential fall-out as Cal struggles with the demons from his past, pushing Zoe away when he needs her the most.
The world building focuses on the Zoe’s need for independence, and her ability to say what needs to be said. Cal is a man struggling with a severe case of low self-esteem, exacerbated by a father with his own demons. As Zoe continues to move forward and out, Cal’s reputation and his poor opinion of himself, threaten a future for our story line couple.
The relationship between Zoe and Cal begins as friends, and quickly develops into something more. A friends with benefits arrangement in the hopes of ‘teaching’ Zoe about life and everything it has to offer but an arrangement in which Cal is hoping for something more.Cal’s reputation with the ladies precedes his introduction to our story line heroine but Zoe is willing to look beyond the ‘mistakes’ of his past. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive.
The secondary and supporting characters includes Zoe’s sister Cassidy Brooks (Try Me), their mother Ruby, and Cassidy’s other half Jake; Lucy and Peter (Charm Me), as well as Mason, Parker, and Cal’s long-suffering father Edgar Cornish.
HOLD ME is a story of struggle and acceptance, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is throught-provoking and honest; the romance is spicy and provocative; the characters are determined and sassy.
I’ve been waiting years for this book! Oh my gosh, I loved the setup for this character (Zoe) and her story as is portrayed in this book. Unlike the much more often used – the guy said I was no good in bed and then the positive affirmations/experiences from the new & improved, blah, blah, blah… this is a much more different take on a similar situation. In either case, both of these scenarios are great in books because there are certainly women out there who maybe haven’t actually had the full, robust sexual experiences that are often times reflected in romance & other reads. Let’s be honest, some of this is because there are guys out there who really aren’t that good at sex, and it isn’t always just lack of “experience”. Honestly, I might have even enjoyed a little more detail for Zoe exploring her journey in that way.
What made this story so refreshing was not only the setup for Zoe’s situation (which I absolutely LOVED) but the crossover between her enforced innocence and then her deciding to pair up with one of the most notorious lady slayers around. The best part about how this played out was the interactions between the two and discovering very quickly how Zoe’s lack of filter and enthusiasm for life & new experiences played out against Cal’s character. It was great that we found out pretty quickly that even though he’s a player, there is quite a different side to the private guy that Cal really is underneath it all.
Once again this is an amazing story and great read. While it isn’t all completely lighthearted, the banter and situations are truly engaging and hilarious. If you have a problem or are triggered by alcoholism/addiction you may want to keep that in mind before reading, but there are some great messages and lessons learned in here too.
Once again Tawna Fenske has written a fun read with wit, humor, zany situations, and truly enjoyable characters. The fact that she does this in such a great small town community setting and with such a full & diverse group of supporting characters only makes me more anxious for the next books in this series. Bring them on!!
Book three in this interconnected series gives us the story of Cal and Zoe and their HEA. Though their story stands alone, there are other plot points that run throughout the series. Reading this book first will give away spoilers from previous books. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. I fell in love with Zoe in Cassidy’s book. I am so excited that she finds her HEA with Cal. She is strong and resilient. She has been through so much with her health, and now she is ready to embrace life to its fullest. From previous books, I knew Cal was a bit of a player. He was never short of female company. This book allowed me to really get to know him though, and I adored him. Underneath the player is a solid, loyal, kind man with a heart of gold (and some baggage). His family has issues that he has been hiding. His motivation for playing the field is also revealing. His love for his little dog will melt any reader’s heart. I adore how he cherishes and worships Zoe. When she makes her proposal, neither expected the love they would find together. Their hot times are steamy and emotional. From the beginning they are so much more than the smoking physical attraction that simmers between them. Cal makes mistakes, but his grand gesture and the little things he does while he figures out how to be the man he needs to be, make it all worthwhile. Under the surface, this book addresses grief, addiction, learning to go after adult dreams, and how those dreams can change when you least expect it. I am loving this series, but this may be my favorite book so far. Cal and Zoe are special. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
What I’m Starry-Eyed Over: 🤩 I love the small-town Cherry Blossom Lake romcom series—standalones with interconnected characters. 🤩 Such a unique virgin FMC trope—read the blurb! Zoe Brooks is so full of life and living, and she’s got a bucket list! “But no matter what, I will be completely, unapologetically me. So what if it’s just a fling? I’ll make my tick on his tackle box count for something.” 🤩 Cal Cornish is known as the town playboy but, oh gosh, he’s so stinkin’ deeply good. 🤩 Amazing flirting and innuendos, while razor clamming and so many more fun situations. 🤩 These two MCs have so much chemistry! They are fun, hot, and intimate all at the same time. Their conversations are some of the best I’ve ever read. 🤩 It’s a romcom and fun, but it gets deep as well because of the childhood trauma Cal has been through and has to deal with. All the feels of love, laughs, lusty goodness, and longing. 🤩 Tawna Fenske is the queen of the grand gesture and this one is so perfectly fitting for Cal and Zoe. 🤩 Pet lovers—Tawna Fenske does it so right, you’ll be smitten with Guppy.
What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About: 💫 I wish I owned or worked at Betsy’s Beach Reads. Take me to Cherry Blossom Lake! 💫 I would have loved a little steamy scene at Zoe’s new place. 💫 That sneak peak of Ask Me—hilarious and yes, please!
Trigger Warnings: loss of parent at a young age, on page verbal/emotional abuse by a parent, alcoholic parent.
I’ve always loved Zoe’s character and was so excited to read her story. I liked her to-do list especially with her sub-categories off her main categories and I also enjoyed and was laughing so much while reading this especially with all the innuendos. The scene with Cal looking for the razor clams was so perfect, especially when the comments weren’t intentional on either Zoe or Cal’s part it was just organic to the scene and so funny. I enjoyed this book and especially watching these two fall for each other even though that was never the plan. I felt for Cal and the situation with his father, and it was nice when things came together, and he made a huge grand gesture to Cal and decided to ultimately give him what he's been wanting for a long time. I was also thrilled that Zoe got more responsibility at the library which is all she ever wanted. However, it was after an argument with Cal, and she’d had it and went off on someone that more than deserved it. Unfortunately, with Zoe and Cal each getting what they wanted, their argument put a damper on that. However, in all good romance books, you know they will ultimately get back together and that is what happened with Zoe and Cal, and I can’t wait to see where these two end up with their lives. As always, it was great to see the rest of the characters who have become our friends and I have to say that Lucy Spencer-King has become one of my favorite characters in the series so far and whenever she shows up, I’m so excited. I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series so far but have to say that this book is top of my list right now. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book which will be Kaleb’s story.
Oh my gosh, the way I have fallen for Zoe and Cal. “Hold Me” is a steamy, flirty, and heartfelt friends to lovers small town romance that has easily moved to my favorite of the series.
After being sick for most of her life, Zoe has finally been given the all clear. And she’s ready to live her life. She’s making a list and checking it twice. One of those things is to finally experience all the things, including losing her V-card. Cal is known as the town romeo but the moment he lays on Zoe, he’s all in with her. He agrees to be her fling but secretly wants more. But there are a lot of things no one knows about Cal and as they spend time together, Cal opens up to Zoe and more forms between the two.
Zoe is amazing and such a breath of fresh air. I love her outlook on life and her no nonsense attitude. After battling cancer and coming out the winner, she was finally able to live her life. I loved her list and everything it stood for. She’s a fellow booknerd and so genuine. I loved Cal from the beginning and he’s just the sweetest guy ever. You can tell that there’s so much behind him from the beginning and that past with his mom squeezed my heart. The struggles he goes through with his dad are so relatable. I loved the banter between Zoe and Cal. They bonded quickly as friends and naturally moved into more. They shared secrets and truly believed in each other. The steamy times were steamy and the perfect way for Zoe to learn new things. I laughed out several times and also swooned so much. This was a great read and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Cal Cornish has tick marks on his tackle box for every girl he’s slept with. My library co-worker, Shanice, shared that one. She also said she knows a woman who went home with him one night and had six orgasms before she floated home at midnight, forever ruined for other men.
I wait while she shoves everything into her mom-mobile, then slams the door like she’s trapped a Sasquatch inside.
I want to be prepared just in case. And I want something that says, ‘I’m a sexy, confident woman’ and not, ‘my sister still puts Hello Kitty underpants in my Christmas stocking.’
I move to the next rack and finger a flimsy set in neon pink. It’s mostly strings, and I could achieve the same effect with a hot pink highlighter pen. “I guess I’d have to get a Brazilian wax job.” Maybe I should add that to my list. “Either that or I’ll look like a hamster wedged in a drawer.”
“I can tell by looking at you.” “Tell what?” I feel itchy and self- conscious. “You’re good at it.” Zoe licks her lips. “You kinda just scream sex.” “I try not to,” I say. “They kicked me out of Walmart last time.”
Shanice appears then, books in her arms, her dark eyes sweeping from my feet to my face. “Girl! You look like you just had a quickie in the bathroom.”
My Review:
I wiggled, smirked, and giggle-snorted with glee as I zipped through this delightfully amusing missive. While I have loved every installment in this refreshingly clever series, I deeply treasured these authentic main characters, they were knowable, adorable, and highly endearing. Ms. Fenske’s writing just keeps getting better and better.
Zoe and Cal have been side characters for two books now, and I've been dying for them to get their own, especially once I found out the general plot. A feisty no-longer-an-invalid younger sister turning to the town's Lothario (who has his own tragic backstory) for her sex education needs? Yes, please!
Zoe and Cal did not disappoint. I loved how she so quickly came to see Cal as more than just a boy toy--every time they met up, he either taught her a non-bedroom-related skill she wanted to know (cooking, changing her car's oil) or they knocked another experience off her list first (playing pinball, horseback riding). And I adored how Zoe never hesitated to speak up for what she wanted with him, or eventually, with others.
Their breakup was heartbreaking but was hard to argue with--and really helped to make Cal's (100% private, and 110% PERFECT) grand gesture and their epilogue all the sweeter.
Hold Me would probably work fine as a standalone read, but honestly? Read them all in order. There is some underlying drama with the Spencer-King family that started in the first book and has been ongoing throughout, and IMO it's always so satisfying to see characters you already know and love from earlier books *finally* find their HEAs in *their* book.
Speaking of which, hey, Kaleb? Can't wait for yours... <3
Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
While the logical side of me completely understands that an author can't churn out books weekly purely for my entertainment, the Cherry Blossom Lake series always leaves me lamenting both the end of the book, and the fact that I'll have to wait a while for the next one. I love visiting this little town with its deep characters and massive amounts of heart.
Zoe and Cal are the unlikely pair in Hold Me. Zoe, after a lifetime of doctors and extreme protections to keep her from getting ill, has finally been given the all clear to live her life as a normal 24 year old. She's got a long list of new adventures to try, and sex is at the top of it. Cal, the town heartthrob known for his prowess in bed, and the long trail of satisfied ladies he's left in his wake, is Zoe's perfect sex tutor.
While the chemistry between Zoe and Cal is all kinds of hot and steamy, what I appreciated most was their model of open and honest communication. The arc of growth their characters take is impressive and inspiring. Cal especially. He's a model of how a man should take the pain that life has put him through, and work through it in an emotionally mature way; and Zoe's zest for a life well lived and adventurous spirit is equally inspiring.
With all of Fenske's trademark quips, hilarious situations, steam and heart, this book is a fabulous addition to the Cherry Blossom Lake universe. I can't wait to read the next one!
Whether this book fits in a reader’s favorite tropes or not, these characters are extremely engaging. Zoe grew up with a life-threatening illness. She’s finally in remission and excited about starting a bucket list of experiences, including having sex, getting a full-time job in the town’s library and maybe getting an apartment. Her positivity is inspiring. Cal is the town’s Boy Toy and is carrying a lot of baggage. He had quit high school to help care for his mother when she was dying. Cal now works for Zoe’s brother on his fishing boat, although he also has some personal goals. Zoe cheerfully propositions Cal to help her out with her new bucket list. I found myself loving these characters’ dual points of view, as they complement and inspire each other. The story has a cute dog, supportive secondary characters, flashes of humor, adult steam and a HEA. This book also has a few triggers such as Cal’s learning disability, his father’s alcoholism, grief, and verbal abuse. Those difficult topics are handled very well. The story can be read as a stand-alone, although characters from the other books in the series do appear. I loved Zoe and Cal, both separately and together. Recommended romance story! I received an advance copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Another wonderful visit to Cherry Blossom Lake, this time we get Zoe’s happily ever after. After a lifetime dealing with illness and being in and out of hospitals Zoe finally gets the all clear to live her life without restrictions. Her first order of business is to make a life to-do list, anything and everything that was off limits before is on that list. And when Cal knocks on her door Zoe knows exactly what item is at the top of that list. Cal has a reputation with the ladies so Zoe thinks he will be perfect to be her sex tutor and Cal knows he is up for the job after all he believes that is the only thing he is good for with women. Little do Zoe and Cal know but they are exactly what the other needs. Zoe growing up like she did just says what she wants but in a good way, she isn’t afraid to ask questions even if it might be embarrassing or uncomfortable. Cal always questioned if he wasn’t smart enough and if he was only good for what he could do for women in the bedroom and not much else. Zoe fell for Cal because of the conversations they had and not just because he was hot. I loved watching these two overcome their childhood/teen issues and realized that they are both worthy of love and each other. I am really enjoying this series and can not wait for Kaleb’s story next. Then Hazel’s or Mason’s…. So many to look forward too.
Back to Cherry Blossom Lake we go. This time it's Zoe, who is finally in remission, and Cal, the uber-playboy, who are taking centre stage. But don't worry lots of your favourite characters from the other books in the series turn up too.
Zoe has started to make a list of all the things she has missed out on. Before she knows it her list is sub-indexed with a list of all the "intimate" things she has missed out on. In typical Zoe fashion she makes a plan of action and top of the list is getting Cal, hot deck hand and very experienced male to be her tutor.
Cal is so much more than he has been portrayed so far. He's a deep feeler, he loves his tiny dog and he can cook up a storm! Zoe may be naïve in real life experiences but all those book smarts are being out to good use. She doesn't play games and explains exactly what she wants and how she wants it.
There are plenty of laughs and unintentional dirty talking. But there are also intense, heartfelt situations being dealt with including loss, grief, addiction issues and unhealthy coping mechanisms. The chemistry is intense between Zoe and Cal and I loved all their sweet but smexy intimate moments. They both have some growing up to do, especially Zoe needing to grab her independence.
One of my fave snippets involved Cal and Parker at Prom. My wee heart was happy at that little scene.
This was such a cute book! I loved getting to know Cal and Zoë a bit more, as we've only seen glimpes of them in the other books so far.
Zoë is Cassidy's younger sister and has been sick most of her life. As such, she hasn't had as much life experience as other girls her age. Now that she's received the all-clear from her doctors, she is ready to live. Encouraged by Cassidy and other women in her life, she makes a bucket lists of things she wants to do, learn, experience... One of those things is losing her virginity and having lots of sex.
I loved how she organized her bucket list, with sub-items under certain categories. I also welcomed the warm and open relationship she has with her sister and mother - trust me when I say that not all women can talk so freely with their direct relatives about some topics.
Cal is Jake's (Cassidy's fiancé) employee and lives near Lucy. He's a bit gruff and quite the ladies man, but both are hiding a lot of hurt and a maturity beyond his years.
Because of his womanizing reputation, Zoë propositions Cal to help her with some of the items on her list - no strings attached. But of course, those strings develop. And they are a joy to witness.
This book is a lovely combination of heartfelt confessions and laugh-out-loud antics. And any guy who genuinely loves and cares for a small dog, is welcome in my book!
Hold Me is contemporary romance at its finest! The third installment in the Cherry Blossom Lake series had me laughing, crying and getting all steamed up! I have read all the books in the series and now it's Cal and Zoe's turn at finding love. Zoe is finally coming into her new found freedom at 24 after living a lifetime under the care of doctors over a serious health condition. She wants to experience EVERYTHING and starts making a list. When it comes to matters of a personal nature, she seeks out her soon to be brother-in-law's first mate, Cal. He's young, hot and a player. Zoe assumes that Cal will be a great instructor and she won't be putting her heart at risk because she has a life to get started on and has no plans of being tied down. Behind Cal's quiet demeanor, there is a thoughtful young man with a lot of baggage. No one has ever had the interest in getting to know the man behind the attractive exterior. As Cal and Zoe get to know each other, they soon realize that they both want more and will need to work on how to make that happen. There are a lot of layers to Hold Me and that is what made it so good. The supporting characters are top notch and kept me hooked to the story well into the night. Hold Me was told from dual POV and it was sweet, spicy, thought provoking and just plain wonderful! I am looking forward to what comes next in Cherry Blossom Lake.
What a great story of finally getting to live your life, grabbing it by the horns, and holding on. Zoe has lived her life having to be careful of everything. Her childhood was mainly spent in hospitals and living inside a protected bubble. Now she is cleared to start living and living life is what she plans to do. First on her agenda is to lose her V-card and who better to do that with than the hot town playboy, Cal?
Cal has a reputation in town as the hot guy to have fun with but there is so much more to Cal than people know, including himself. When Zoe asks him for help, he has no idea how much she will help him in the long run, but she does.
The chemistry, fun, and quick wit of our sweet little Zoe make this book my favorite of this series so far. The entire series is great, and the other characters are all fantastic in their own ways, but Zoe and Cal are off the charts. Many things are going on in this story besides Zoe and Cal and it all comes together in a book that kept me turning those pages finding myself eager to see what happened next.
"I'm not expecting some big seduction scene," she says. "This doesn't have to be romantic. And maybe we shouldn't build it up too much or--"
My mouth collides with hers because I swear to God, I need to taste her. The second I do, a groand slips out of me. Threading my fingers through her hair, I draw her close. My tongue brushers hers and it's Zoe's turn to moan.
Zoe Brooks has waited her whole life for this. To finally live her life to the fullest. Spending so much time in and out of hospitals, having to stay away from germs, hasn't left much room for meeting people or a romantic life. But that is about to change. She has set her sights on Cal Cornish. Who has been known to be an expert on all things to do with pleasing a woman.
Cal knows what women see when they look at him. A pretty face, nice body and a good time. He's been fine with that, for the most part. But with Zoe? With Zoe, he wants more. And he has never felt like less. He feels so inadequate to her, that it risks everything they have.
These two take some time to make it back together, but it is perfect when they do.
Zoe and Cal are charmingly adorable and oh my lanta, funny! Their awkward conversation as she is asking him be her “pleasure tutor”…quotes are my own, need to appease the sensors…was rib-tickling hilarious. Their chemistry just goes to show that opposites have more in common than they think. Cal is the more unsure character, haunted by the loss of his mother, the emotional abandonment of his dad and his own doubts of his worth. Zoe, for all her health issues and missed opportunities growing up, is actually more worldly, in a way. They balance each other perfectly. I know I mention the humor in Tawna Fenske’s books a lot, but it’s because I appreciate and enjoy the genuine way she weaves humor into each story. It’s not overblown or forced, like some authors, unfortunately, seem to do. There’s no “shock value” or camp schtick to get a chuckle. It’s a big reason I’m still a reader after all these years, long after I’ve weeded others out of my must-read list. I just love her books. I think you will, too.
“Sometimes you want vanilla ice cream and sometimes chocolate. Neither’s better, exactly—they’re just different forms of delicious.”
After a string of dark romance books and audiobooks, Hold Me by Tawna Fenske was the swoony small-town romance my heart needed. Zoe Brooks had been sheltered for most of her life due to a medical condition. With her syndrome finally in remission at 24, Zoe is ready to dive into her bucket list and explore life’s offerings…starting with ditching her V card. Cal Cornish is first mate to Jake Spencer-King, but has dreams beyond fishing and the sea. Seeing the town playboy tongue-tied by sweetheart Zoe made me chuckle and melt. Their introduction was a charming meet-cute full of unintentional dirty talk. Zoe & Cal had sizzling chemistry and an instant easy rapport. I love this small-town, big heart, cozy seaside series and Hold Me is Tawna’s best yet! From the seduction tutor premise to the mutual respect & support of the MCs, Hold Me is a wonderful love story. Tawna once again creates a lovely blend of spice and swoon!
This is the 3rd book in the series and it might be my favourite so far. The couple in the book are Cal and Zoe. He is Jake's second in command on the boat and Zoe is Cassidy's kid sister. After going into remission from Nauthrelle Syndrome and wanted to live a full like she meets Cal and have a instant connection with him. She is a made a bucket list and he is on it. Starts innocently by how to collect and cook clams but after that thing turns hot and heavy. She wants to learn everything about life including sex. One of the big issues is Cal's dad and they way he puts down Cal and he believes it and it becomes a problem for them. He want to reopen his family's pub. His father isn't having any of it and says horrible thing about Cal. They end up breaking up because Cal is embarrassed about his lack of schooling and culture. Zoe doesn't care but he break up with her anyways. Cal's dad finally smartens up and signs over his part of the pub and informs Cal that his mom left a good size of a insurance policy. Let's just say that everyone gets what they want and deserve.
This bucket list includes all the laughter and feels…
This author knows how to write characters with heart and Zoe and Cal bring it! Zoe has lived with a crushing medical diagnosis (and all that comes with it) for most of her life. Given the green light to actually do all the things she’s waited for, she’s embraced her bucket list with an enthusiasm that couldn’t be faked. With Cal by her side, she was going to do it all…
Cal couldn’t help be caught up in Zoe’s plans. She was beautiful, smart and way too tempting. Dealing with his own issues, he wasn’t sure he was the right person for the job. Even as he couldn’t resist her…
This is the third book in the Spencer-King families story and, once again, I laughed and smiled through it all. The drama was there – oh was it – which made this laugh out loud rom-com even better! Be prepared for smiles, laughter – and all the smutty heat – in an uplifting read firmly on my re-read shelf…
This was a sweet romance that was so funny at times. I can’t imagine what Zoe went through for the first 24 years of her life being in hospitals, not being able to be outside, or not knowing what normal things people did. She had learned that life was short and she wanted to do everything she could. It was so funny as she did not mess around with niceties but said what she wanted up front. I loved how she came on to Cal who had always been a womanizer so she could find out the best way to lose her virginity. I hated seeing how Cal was so unsure of himself and didn’t feel worthy of much. Zoe was so good with his self confidence, but his dad kept putting him down. Cal and his father hardly stood the pain of when Cal’s mother died. I found myself laughing many times. It is a touching book that I encourage you to read.
HOLD ME is the perfect combination: tender, sexy, and freaking funny!
Zoe, a young woman emerging from a decades-long cocoon of illness, decides she has an awful lot of living to make up for, and she doesn't want to waste any time diving in to all the areas of life she's been forced to forgo, including (or maybe especially) the romance parts. She sets her sights on Cal, whose well-deserved reputation as a ladies' man makes him the perfect tutor in the sex department. He agrees to help Zoe out, but things get complicated when his own insecurities set up roadblocks to their Happily Ever After. Who better than Zoe to help him overcome his issues?
Can't wait for the next book in this charming series!
this was left in her posse group once I finished the arc. I read fast so I didn't want to spoil anything for the other readers. OH MY GOSH!!! I love it! I love it! I love it! I will leave this post at that so I don't blow anything for anyone. Ok, I need to say more. 😂 Tawna you blew it outta the park!! I laughed so much! My dog thinks I am crazy and since she couldn't figure out why I was laughing, I read her the parts! I even stayed up way past my bed time to finish it because there was no way I was going to stop! I need your books like flowers need sun! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 *is it fall yet? Bring on the next one! Now that the book is out... The characters are wonderful! It is wonderful to go on their journey as the characters grow. Tawna is top 3 of my favorite authors!
4.5 stars - The most character growth I've seen in a book!
This one ripped my heart out and I wasn't sure it'd be back in one piece by the end. The trials that Cal and Zoe have been through were so heartbreaking, but I loved watching them overcome each one, even if it took some time.
After Cal's mom dies, his dad turns to alcohol, and he turns to women. Watching how his dad emotionally abused him made me so angry, but I'm glad he still had her dog to take care of. The part about the dog collar made me ugly cry.
Zoe is finally in remission and makes a bucket list she's determined to accomplish. I loved her zest and outlook on life, along with her close friends that want nothing but the best for her.
I love each book in this series more and more. I can't wait for the next one!!!
oh my I loved this story. it had me giggling and everything.
Zoey has finally been cleared to live her life from the drs and well she starts making a list on things she wants to do. well one happens to be losing her v card to someone experience. well that she did but in doing so she didn't think she would find her happy ever after
