I don’t think I’ve ever disliked the main characters in a book this much. I’m starting to wonder if the author has actually ever met a woman in her mid-30s. There has been no character growth or development in this series. Paige still reacts to everything like a two year old and Dewey is still doing his best Regina George impression. The side characters are also all emotionally stunted and obnoxious.
If it wasn’t for the characters this series would be great.
So much bouncing around in time that I just started skimming it. I'm sure I missed some points that will be important later but I just got tired of reading the same theme. Get sent somewhere in time, solve crisis, interact with some relative, move on; over, over, again and again. Endless. . . .
📚 Book Review 📚 Shadow Omens By Nellie H. Steele ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is Book 5 in the Shelving Magic Series by Nellie H. Steele. In this book, we find Paige and her teacup dragon companion, Dewey, on a quest to find her mother. With the help of a diverse group of companions, the group ventures to find clues to her mother's whereabouts in Ireland. A cursed magical artifact leads the group, warping them through time and space. The group finds themselves fighting for their lives against a deadly assortment of enemies, from German Nazi soldiers to vampires. In their quest, Paige and Dewey find themselves assisting other librarians in securing artifacts and soon learn that this adventure is not random but holds a secret that has something to do with Paige's history. This story was truly a whirlwind of action, thrills, mystery, and excitement. Just when you were getting comfortable in one setting and time, the author would transport the reader into an entirely different scenario, from medieval times to France during World War I, the artifact would respond spontaneously. I enjoyed the interactions among the characters and the growing connection they are developing. The reader could also feel the emotions within the characters, from tension to loss, love to friendship, the sentimentality was always strong. The world-building of the story was fabulous and was enough to make your head spin. The plotline was at times complicated, but that did not distract from the satisfaction of enjoying reading the story. With a clever plot, witty dialogue, exciting action, and time-traveling suspense, who could not enjoy this exceptional journey? I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced, exciting, and unusual scenario to get lost in. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy
Another fun read in this series! In this one, Drucinda believes she has found some clues to Paige's mother's whereabouts, so the gang head off to Ireland to see if they can find out anymore about Paige's heritage or where her mother might actually be. Once there, they encounter a portrait of someone who looks very much like Paige, but from a past period in time.
Using a Time Turner, they all head back to when this portrait was painted, but with devastating results, for Paige and Dewey at least. They end up constantly jumping through time with no control over when or where they land, but each time they encounter people who could give them help or give them more clues to Paige's past. They also have to help various librarians recover even more artifacts, sometimes with hilarious or dangerous adventures!
I love the jumping through time and how Paige and sometimes Dewey dealt with where they were and what they had to do. Just as soon as you thought they were on the path home again, something would happen and everything changed once more! It was definitely a rollercoaster of a ride through time and the culprit who caused it all, wasn't completely unexpected, although we still don't know yet why! Hopefully more will be revealed in the next book!
Looking forward to reading the next book in this series soon!

Shadow Omens is book 5 Magical Library Contemporary Fantasy Novel by Nellie H Steele. Wow! This book is fabulous. Page, Dewy, Drucinda and friends go on a wild ride to find Page's mother. The author kept me on the edge of my seat. I think this is my favorite book in the series. Great characters with a good mystery equals a fantastic book. I believe that this is a not to be missed story. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
All the traveling reminded me of Sherman and Mr Wizard traveling through time! Loved that show as a kid! The adventures in this book are off the chain!
Story line is interesting and inventive, but there are way too many holes that are finally being questioned, but should have been questioned in book 1, not book 5
