A suspicious wife. A secretive love. A silent murder.
Vonnie’s least-favorite mentor just kicked the bucket. In her office. The suspect list is short, and she’s on it. The killer didn’t leave any clues, but that won’t stop the town from demanding answers. If Vonnie doesn’t prove her innocence, she’ll find herself behind bars.
The dead body isn’t her only problem. There are two top cases on Vonnie’s lap and the second one will tear open her heart. Uncovering the truth about a family member’s secret behavior will test her resolve as a private investigator. When their freedom is on the line, will she keep the secret or put her trust in the law?
Nothing ever goes as planned. And it’s never easy. An injury mars Broadrick’s return, and now there’s bunny poop by her front door. If she doesn’t put all the pieces together and get her life under control, she’ll leave town forever. In handcuffs.
Join your favorite small town female private eye in solving her latest hilarious mystery.
Megan Matthews loves writing humorous romantic suspense featuring heroes with unbelievable abs, billionaire bosses, and heroines with attitude for days. She lives in Michigan with her techie husband, homeschooled son, their cat, and two guinea pigs.
When she’s not writing, you can find her on Instagram posting about reading, home life, half-dead plants, her ridiculous notebook and fancy pen collections, plus the occasional crochet project.
This is book four of the Vonnie Vines Mystery series and this one finds Vonnie’s often absent and not exactly great mentor Mick, dead in her office and her being seen as a suspect in his murder, even though she had a clear alibi for the time of his death. Broadrick is still overseas on his last mission and incommunicado, which has Vonnie worrying about him every day. She sends him messages, but none are ever read, adding to her distress about whether he will even return. Her younger sister Vivi is due to graduate soon and is busy making up tie with her boyfriend Allen, after Vonnie proved him innocent of murder in her last case. Her mother drops off a bunny she is supposed to be looking after herself, into Vonnie’s supposedly more capable hands. Her Aunt Claire comes in to hire her to find out if her husband, Richard, Vonnie’s uncle is having an affair! Detective Anderson won’t even let her back into her office as it is a crime scene and reminds her not to start looking into it herself! Now she needs somewhere else to work from and her bestie Katy comes up with a small room she can use at one of her boyfriend’s offices. Vonnie has bounty hunter Tony back on her case and asking for her help, whilst he keeps an eye on her for Broadrick, to make sure she stays safe.
Her Uncle Richard has been eating at a Clearwater diner a couple of times a week, which could be understandable due to his wife’s cooking skills, as Vonnie doesn’t believe he could possibly be cheating on her aunt. But what she will discover is even more shocking than she could have ever imagined, and she will even need to bring in Detective Anderson to do the deed with the evidence she provides him. A link to the Snowbird and the threats she has received in the past becomes clearer. Mick’s business partner Frasier tries to pinpoint his murder onto Mick’s stepson Eric and wants Vonnie to prove he did it. With all this going on, she is excited to get a message finally from Broadrick saying he is back in the States, at Walter Reed. He was alive and coming home she thought, until she realised he was in a hospital and must have been injured, not that he will give her any details! Another call comes in for her assistance to track a resident of Pelican Bay, Pearl, and it turns out they know more about her than the townsfolk or even Vonnie does. Vonnie now has multiple cases to manage, her returning injured SEAL, and a disturbing family matter that will test her resolve. Some end up not as expected, others with a few more twists, but her main worry is Broadrick and his injury which she really doesn’t have to think about as he is the one to look after her and not the other way round. Vonnie certainly earns her title as a P.I. in this book with such a multitude of cases, some easy, some personal and some much harder to deal with.

This was an awesome read of Vonnie Vines solving the murder of her mentor Mick Darcy. Broderick comes home from his deployment and their relationship strengthens. Her aunt has also hired her to investigate if her uncle is seeing another woman. And her mother once again has her babysitting a rabbit Mr Jasper this time. This was an enjoyable read of mystery, suspense, romance and lots of humor. Vonnie sure can get in some real messes and Broderick is there to cover for her. Looking forward to the next two books.

With her own freedom on the line she is determined to solve this case
4th Suspect is the fourth book in the A Vonnie Vines Mystery series. Once again Vonnie is up against it with this murder mystery that could see her own freedom on the line. She will have to up her game and lay all on the field as she works to uncover who is to blame and why. But she has a second case to deal with also, and it is much closer to home than she would have liked. This is another great story to add to this series of interconnected stories, as they build on each other.

Vonnie is back and this time she becomes a murder suspect and wants to clear her name. This is a really nice addition to this series. I think this is the best one so far. This is book 4 of a Vonnie Vines Mystery series. This is a great book. It keeps the story going from the others first 3 books. Vonnie has so much going on with the murder, her boyfriend back and injured, new friends, and trying to still be a PI. It keeps the reading not wanting to put the book around.

I adore Vonnie! Being a PI is hard especially when your mentor is found dead, in your office! And her relationship with Broadrick is just hilarious - love how they are together! Another good read.

The author has, once again, pulled us into the lives of Vonnie and her "crew". The heart pounding story keeps us turning the pages with humor, mystery, secrets and Vonnie in the middle of the chaos.

Once again Vonnie is in the thick of trouble with a murder case, maybe a cheating relative, new friends, pet sitting and a homecoming. This series is a lot of fun to read.
