Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
This collection of stories of Max, Dooley, Harriet, and Brutus - along with their owners Odelia, Chase, Marge, Tex, and Vesta and the rest of the gang provide loads of humor mystery and touching moments.
The stories get pretty close to crossing the line of adult entertainment, but is certainly appropriate for older teens.
I enjoy the concept of the women in Odelia's family being able to talk to their cats. The human-like intelligence of the animals is humorously depicted. It's the supposed "romance" between Harriet and Brutus that I feel is taken too far. Spayed and neutered animals are not able to engage in "romantic" feelings. When they are neutered they just don't! Take it from this life-long cat (and dog) owner.
Other than that these books ate highly engaging and I love to put the pieces together before the end of the story.
At the beginning of this set of Max’s adventures, I was a bit concerned. The antics of Verna had gotten way out of hand- giving away the cats, blowing up a house, trying to hijack the rebuild, and purposely crashing a car- were not humorous to me. She was such a narcissist that it was close to unbearable.
I’m glad to see there was course correction and that we now have the parents, the cats and Odelia and Chase. I do feel that the latter couple has lost detail- they don’t have a whole lot of personality. It is nice that the stories alternate supporting characters.
I absolutely adore Max and his entourage. If only this were true, I'd be the happiest person on earth. These stories are just delightful. No foul language. No explicit sex. We get enough of that on TV, don't we? Nic Saint has created an excellent series with each book being unique in the storyline. I never want to put the book down once I start reading. The characters are perfect. You get to know each one, the more you read, until they become like family. I'm off to read th next 40 books. Hope you will too! P.S. I think I might be falling in love with Mr. Saint!! Please don't tell my husband! ❤️🐾🐾❤️
I can't believe Nic didn't get sued for this. Maybe he did, who knows.
It is not difficult to identify the celebrities he parodies. However, this particular book oversteps boundaries and exhibits poor taste, focusing on salacious content rather than wit. I must say that I was unable to complete reading it. Considering that this was the 40th novel out of approximately 80 in the series, it will be the last one I read.
With all the strife in the world these days it is great to be able to be so exceptionally entertained. The personalities of all of the characters, both human and feline, are so well written that I feel like I know them all. Give yourself a treat and meet Max, Dooley, Brutus, and Harriet!
Technology meets veterinary science as Max and his friends get new biometric monitoring collars. What could possibly go wrong? Especially when the collars are a spinoff of an online game universe.
These are fun, funny and good entertainment! I recommend them wholeheartedly! Just finished the 40th. Now on to 41! What crime will the cats solve next!
These book make me laugh. These cat are so funny and I can imagine my cats thinking the same things at times. The charecters are well developed and very likable. I cannot wait to read the next set
