With help from CIA agent Ruth McIlwain, Jacob Bauman is trying to find the person responsible for a civilian bombing in Israel; who, as it turns out, happens to be Ruth. Most of the events in the novel take place during the Summer of 2004. The United States has troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and there is increasing tension between the US and Iran. Ruth McIlwain is part of a CIA covert ops team that’s tasked with keeping weapons out of the hands of terrorists, militants, and rogue states. Jacob Bauman is an analyst for the CIA, specializing in genetic technology, and has just joined the team.
