Worlds Collide was another action packed, emotional ride. As the story progressed, I loved that a lot of the pieces to the puzzle finally fell into place. Secrets came out, truths were exposed and the stakes became even higher. And while I had some guesses about the outside, what was really out there blew my mind. The new elements that were introduced kept me on my toes and was fabulous! This book definitely didn't suffer from middle book syndrome and I loved every minute of it! So here were some of my favorite things.....
Somewhere between saying “I do” and uniting the Pit for a rebellion, I learned to trust Jack.

✮ A power couple:
“I really do love you.” His voice cracked with emotion. Tears burned my eyes but I refused to let them fall.
“And I love you more than I could ever say.”

Jack and Sunny's relationship was put to the test in Worlds Collide. Not only was their relationship forbidden, but they were still getting to know each other. And when Sunny had to pretend to be Jack's plaything, that just added to the stress of it all. But there is a reason why they easily became one of my favorite couples, and it had to do with how they were around each other. While they were strong and determined by themselves, together they were a force to be reckoned with. What they were each willing to do and sacrifice to help one other captured my heart. And I loved that some of their actions caused me laugh at a few of the more intense moments. They were a true team and one of my favorite couples! My heart couldn't be happier with where this story took them.

✮ An action packed story:

I wasn’t ready to admit defeat. I couldn’t sit here and watch him risk his life alone. I didn’t want to be in this world without him.

The twists and turns kept coming and it made me fly through the pages. And while I thought I had a clear picture of where the story was going, then something would shift. Oh my gosh, it was all so brilliant. What unfolded would leave my mouth hanging open or I'd want to jump up and down because I was so excited. Allies, enemies, friendship, and even the unknown constantly played a part in this story and it made for a very exciting, action packed ride!

✮ My emotions were everywhere:
Never, in my entire worthless life, had anyone ever looked at me with that much love.
I tried to breathe around the lump lodged in my throat, but it was getting increasingly difficult. Taking his face in my hands, I nodded. Pressing closer, I kissed him, tasting the salt of our tears. I didn’t want to think about what was facing us, or why I might need a gun.

Worlds Collide had me run the gamut emotions! One moment I'd have sweaty palms, the next I'd be scared to even breathe and another my claustrophobic self had me screaming out loud. And while there were times that it felt like Sunny and Jack didn't even have two seconds to breathe, I loved when they'd finally catch a little reprieve. Those moments were absolutely beautiful and it was impossible not to smile and swoon. I was grateful for those moments, Jack's smart mouth and Sunny's tenaciousness because they were each smile inducing. And since their future had a ton of bumps in the road, I more than appreciated having some lightness mixed into their story.
I didn’t marry the enemy. I married the hero.

The Sunset Rising Series is absolutely incredible and a must read for dystopian lovers! To say I was glued to the pages would be a huge understatement. I cheered, screamed, laughed, smiled and even cried my eyes out with Worlds Collide. And we were introduced to a few new characters that I became obsessed with. So once I flipped that last page, I was already grabbing the final book, New World Order. I can't wait to see how this series will wrap up!

Wow. I'm hitting myself in the head, right now. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS?!?!

This sequel was amazing, it was full of action, conspiracy, and yes, Jack and Sunny time. *winks*

It picks up right where the first left off, and this time it's a sort of reversal of book one where Jack had to live in Sunny's world. Now that Jack and Sunny are out of the pit, they run into a bunch of military Domers who are building a city on earth for the bourges to live in. The city lost communication with the Dome, and therefore don't know that Jack and Sunny are fugitives. Jack is once again trusted by the bourges and is still thought to be the next president, and Sunny is assumed to be his mistress. She now has to fit into his world.

All you need to know is that this was honestly REALLY good. I would definitely label it as one of those books I wish more people knew about.

And that ending......WHAT?!?! No no no. That was unacceptable, I need the third one now.

Happy Reading!!!

I was torn between 5 and 4 stars on this, so we're going with... 4.5 stars. Pretty good for a second book!

This is one of fewer than ten series I actually bother to follow. It takes a lot these days to keep a reader (particularly one like me who likes new experiences/stories) coming back.

Which brings me to one of my favorite things about this book - just when things could slide into something stable and therefore less interesting, something new always comes up. A new character, a new crisis, a new piece of information is always around the corner to keep you from getting bored. Fortunately this doesn't mean constant action with no interesting characters.

Of course there are little things that niggled at me - like Sunny wasting food. My only complaint of any significance was the inclusion of a Nazi subplot. I liked the general idea behind it, but would have preferred a fresher spin on it so that it could be a little more believable.

It does end without resolution - not that you would expect full resolution midway through a series, but I always hope to have just enough to feel satisfied until the next book comes out. While some things are resolved, expect to be left with some things that won't be answered until the next book. I am sure you will read the word "cliffhanger" in some of the reviews.

I am looking forward to book 3 - there are some "bad men" I am curious to read more about.

Memorability factor: 6/10 (I always have trouble remembering series!)

I've been eagerly anticipating this book as I loved the first one so much! This is a nice, long story and covers a TON of ground. Lots of new characters and new information to absorb, so this will definitely require a few more read-throughs (yay!).

The story focuses on Sunny and Jack - which was predictable - though what they find outside the Dome is really mind blowing, for many reasons. The title already suggests this, but when our two heroes actually come face to face with this new world, it's quite a shocker (duh).

Lots of progress is made for freeing the Pit, figuring out Holt's plans, Sunny and Jack's relationship, etc, etc. I'm surprised so much ground is covered in this book and I knew it was too good to be true. The book ends in a bit of a cliff-hanger, so prepare yourself!

A few errors sprinkled here and there: i.e. Location 3394 'new' instead of 'knew', but nothing too heinous.

I need the next book!

What I liked:
Worlds Collide the second book in the explosive Sunset Rising series that surrounds a young lady from the pit and the son of the controlled President. Jack and Sunny made it outside the dome in book one, and now they are outside, they are learning the truth about the Earth and the President's real goal in attempting to destroy the pit.
An action-packed, emotional ride, and the world expands with each book. In book one, we are inside the dome, mainly in the lower bowels of it, where the oppressed people are. In book two, we fled the dome and are now out in the world, learning things are not as we have always been told. Sunny and Jack desperately blend in with those living outside the dome. They know all about the President's plan to build a city for the Bourges and wipe out all who do not meet his criteria to survive.
Final Verdict:
This story is always surprising; when things get stable, and you believe that the story is losing its momentum, something new changes the direction of the narrative. Sunny and Jack are a worthy couple that is just desperate to make the world a better place. I can't wait to see how it all wraps up in the explosive final book of this dystopian series.

In "Worlds Collide" Sunny and Jack escape the biodome to the new city being built by President Holt in a valley rumored to be still toxic with radiation. With the military in control under General Powell who employs a labor force of "culled" urchins, and with communications cut-off to the Dome Jack uses his influence as the presidential heir to keep them alive in a game of subterfuge.

Playing Jack Kenner's sex slave may humiliate Sunny but it comes with certain privileges including an easier workload when she's transported to the "corrals" where urchins are forced to work in the kitchen or in the fields, preparing for the President's eventual evacuation from the Dome with his chosen bourge. Though living conditions under the sun are an improvement, the urchins are still oppressed and hunted for sport if disobedient. Now Sunny and Jack must not only formulate a plan to save those in the Pit, but find a way to save those held hostage by the military.

Set outside the biodome where a city is being built to house President Holt's master race, the urchins on the list to be "culled" are being used as a labor force and tagged to keep them controlled. For the men and women segregated in corrals surrounded by electric fences, escape is a death sentence. The atmosphere is depressing and uncertain when Sunny and Jack arrive and he's enlisted to rebuild the communication link to the Dome while she's relegated to working with the other urchins during the day.

The action never stops in a plot filled with multiple twists and turns that heighten the tension and suspense. In this story Sunny and Jack after an unforeseen incident relegates them again to hunted fugitives make a surprising discovery; that the "heathens" despised by General Powell are a peaceful nation of Asian descendants who survived the bombing. With this meeting the intensity of plot escalates especially when the "Nation" agrees to help their cause.

In a well-written and spellbinding adventure the chemistry between Sunny and Jack not only heats up, but becomes more emotionally compelling as they protect each other against those that want to kill them. As the depth of their love and commitment grows, the romance takes on a new dimension as Sunny begins to confront Jack's past transgressions against her people so they can move forward and openly declare their love for each other.

Like all good stories the ingredient to making it utterly captivating from beginning to end lies not only in a great plot but in the personalities of the characters who fuel the drama with energy, depth and passion. Sunny (O'Donnell) Kenner with stubborn pride and inner strength holds on to her optimistic attitude that they can bring freedom and justice to her people not only in the Pit but also those corralled near the new city. She not only shows bravery, self- sacrifice and a fighting spirit but provides creative ideas when they have to come up with a plan. Jack Kenner who exudes self-confidence, power and strength in his counterfeit role hides his anger and uncertainty, frustrated by not being able to move quickly enough to force the changes he and Sunny want.

General Powell is the tough prejudiced leader of the military while President Damien Holt remains the evil, ruthless tyrant who's paranoid and power-hungry. Both add chilling realism to this unforgettable trilogy.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Worlds Collide" the second book in the Sunset Rising Trilogy. I rate it highly and look forward to reading the final book in this series.

I gave it 4.5/5 stars

I enjoyed SUNSET RISING so much that I immediately emailed the author to see if she was looking for reviewers for book 2 and when that arrived in my inbox I jumped right into it.

Jack and Sunny have escaped the Dome, but what finds them on the outside has them right back in the thick of the politics they just escaped. They have to play roles to stay alive and with their new relationship it does put a bit of strain on the couple. Thankfully they always find their way back to each other. I think both Jack and Sunny did a great job of adapting to their new environment and continuing to work towards their goal of liberating the pit.

A lot ends up happening in WORLDS COLLIDE. There are a ton of new characters introduced and plenty of action throughout. It's really crazy to find out how close the pit was to freedom all along and never knew it. I really enjoyed the twists that the book throws out and was never bored with any situation that popped up.

I can't say enough good things about this series. WORLDS COLLIDE had a few slow parts but it trapped me in the story just about as much as SUNSET RISING. My only real complaint is that book two ends on as big a cliffhanger as book 1. Kinda frustrating to not have book 3 right now, but I will be reading it when it comes out.

* This book was provided free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

OH my, about a year of waiting for this to come out and I was nowhere near disappointed! Definitely worth the wait, and the cover is stunning just like the last one!

We pick up right where Sunset Rising left off, and like it's prequel, Worlds Collide is full of action and page turning adventures. I can't get past the beautiful writing and descriptions of the new world. Jack and Sunny explore the new world and find, surprise surprise, their wonderful government of the Dome was lying to them about the outside world.

I loved the new people we met in the mountains. I love their story, I love their sense of a primitive lifestyle, yet in some ways they are way more advanced than the Dome. I love seeing Jack's "soldier side" and see him in his natural habitat.

The ending threw me for a loop, but it does fit in with everything and sets us up for book three (!!!!). While I didn't enjoy this as much as the first, I still had trouble putting it down and would recommend this series to anyone. It has a great balance of romance, suspense, adventure, and action, and now I will wait (im)patiently for book three!

I was wrong and how great it feels to be wrong...

S.M McEachern knows how to keep the story going. Worlds Collide is a gripping tale that glues you to your seat.

What a sequel! Worlds Collide picks up where Sunset Rising ends. I was expecting the new earth to be different. I was wrong and how great it feels to be wrong. The corrupt world the Dome lives in is right outside the wall of the mountain and Sunny is not too pleased with the role she starts out in.
I loved that so much was going on and characters were reunited. There was lots of mystery and adventure to keep our two leads busy. The new earth shakes up the trust that has grown between the two as the past creeps up on Jack. Sunny is more quick to make a move even if it causes trouble for her and the other people. Sunny became surer with herself but was running with tunnel vision for freeing the people of the pit. I felt Jack grew more in this installment. I felt he stepped into a role that he was a bit hesitant to step into before due to the different environment.
There are many new characters being introduced in this novel. There were not only new characters but new surroundings, homes and places. So much character growth and a wonderful new world is introduced. This book is really the best of both worlds. A few tears of happiness escaped my eyes. The worlds collide well with each other.

If I thought book 1 in the Sunset Rising trilogy was good, Worlds Collide was a great sequel had everything I needed. Great world building by McEachern; just when I thought I'd figured out where the book was headed another curveball was thrown in! Sunny and Jake's romance was still slowing burning through the book which I appreciated greatly and there was still lots of writing left for their relationship to both grow and thrive. - (I personally hate when you get to the another book in a series and the author suddenly drops the romance or acts like everything is sunshine and rainbows.) Thankfully none of that here. Of course there was tons of adventures, twists and turns, good fighting scenes as well as interesting plot building. I like that these books had the strength to bring light about racism, gender inequality and overall historical views that are very much still present today. And if you don't think that's very true after reading this trilogy then I wonder if we even read the same books. Besides all of this, I thought it was well written and definitely would recommend! If you liked the 1st one it only gets better in this one! Onto the next one soon. All in all, Worlds Collide gave me everything I wanted for a dystopian world and just the right amount of romance twisted through out.

Worlds Collide (Book 2, Sunset Rising Trilogy) - S. M. McEachern

I was given a copy of this book by Rock Star Book Tours in order to provide an honest review and participate in an online book tour for the Sunset Riising Trilogy.

S. M. McEachern is a Canadian author who has written the Sunset Rising series and Shag Lake.

Sunny and Jack have done it, they’ve duped the President of the Dome and escaped outside. Out in the sun and the fresh air – its green and beautiful and liveable. The depths of the secrets the President has kept from the people of the Dome truly know no bounds.

But it’s not an easy time for them now they have escaped outside. The President has started building a city outside the Dome, a city under his control, under military control. So, Jack and Sunny once more must play the part to buy time, time they need to free all of the Urchins and the people of the Dome.

As the undertake this journey they discover the truth about what occurred 300 years ago, the atrocities that had been and continue to be committed to keep the Bourge in power. All the things innocent people, people such as the Urchins to keep those in power, strong and in charge.

Breaking free of this won’t be easy, it will be a long hard road for Sunny and Jack with blood yet to be shed and many lives yet to be lost.

“Worlds Collide” is the action-packed sequel to Sunset Rising. The author was able to keep up the intrigue in this story with some new plot points that made for some very interesting reading. It amazes me how much we can truly achieve when we stick together and just how capable and ingenious we can be when we truly needed. It was great to see Sunny grow as a character and find her inner strength to survive and do what she had to do it in order to keep herself and her loves ones alive. I particularly loved her inner strength and how she pushed through, kept herself going. We are truly an amazing people when we realise our full potential.

description

Confession: I am a conspiracy enthusiasts. Thus, inasmuch as I try to read books for pure enjoyment, I simply cannot. My given nature causes me to read tremendously into the fictional narratives I pick up even though the text may be something the author never intended. Having said that, I absolutely loved Worlds Collide!

I feel the need to admit however, that I was extremely apprehensive going into this book. I just wasn’t convinced that the plotline could develop any further; oh, but it did. Worlds Collide blew me away! I was enthralled throughout the entire narrative: the plot twists, the characters, the suspense and conspiracy, it was all captivating and superb! I honestly have not been able to experience a book the way I have with this one in a very long time.

WHAT I LIKED:
+ Worlds Collide stirred up a lot more intensity than its predecessor in terms of tragedy and the basic plot did well for a sequel! We still have our gutsy protagonist, Sunny, whose unintended efforts seem to encourage more dissent in the political uprising surrounding the Bourge and the Urchin. Only, the stakes are higher now that Sunny and Jack have managed to “climb out” of their dire circumstance. Also, there were a series of events that caught me by surprise and I loved it!

+ Can I just express how much I love S.M. McEachern’s writing style? Because I do; truly, I do. It’s not so much that her writing is quaint or extraordinary ― though in my view, it legitimately is ― but rather, there is something beyond the traditional storytelling when it comes to this author. Firstly, her storytelling effortlessly draws you in and you unseeingly lose touch with reality. Secondly, she pays attention to the details that define her characters and the predicaments they find themselves in by having them engage through logical reasoning, emotion and belief in a convincing approach. Lastly, she brilliantly manages to use romance and a post-apocalyptic setting to bring to the fore important social issues in an informative civilized way. In other words, her books are more than just sappy-romantic-dystopian novels, they hold the capacity to spark a revolution! Further, they demand that you recognize and see the deception and immorality within our society and to take a stand! It goes without saying, McEachern has made it on my auto-buy list; mark my words, I will read anything this woman writes!

+ I loved the wider scope in Worlds Collide ― we are exposed to a great deal of privileged information; as well as, the history and conditions surrounding the Bourge’s fascist regime. Speaking about this repulsive regime, the complexity and conspiracy surrounding this government is eerily thought-provoking. Like, there were more than a few instances, where I had to step back and truly question my stance in society. I remember even now, on this one occasion ― while I was watching the news ― where I couldn’t help but notice the way in which different social classes and cultures interacted with one another; even more, what creates the tension between them. Have I mentioned how much I love books and how they challenge my perspective?

+ The established world in this series is remarkably well-conceived! Everything from the landscapes, to the forest, to physical appearances, to the technological advances, to the underground Dome, to the uniforms and costumes is solid and visually stimulating!

+ We are introduced to an added array of rich gritty characters in Worlds Collide and their essence is enough to engage the reader; I have to say however, that Doc was by far my favorite character in this book! You know those characters that intentionally take the “behind-the-scenes” role, but play a major part in the development of the storyline? Yep, Doc is one of them He exudes charisma, extreme intelligence and harbors a strong yearning to expose the corrupt influences of the Bourge regime despite his delicate connection to them; oh the drama! {rubs hands together}

+ There is a clever plot twist within the prose that will leave you stunned and perfectly offended to say the least; oh and of course, a brutal cliffhanger that is tragically genius! I’m just thankful that I don’t have to wait a year or two to uncover the aftermath!

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKED:
– I’m not quite sure how I feel about the romance between Sunny and Jack yet. I mean, it’s not so much that “I don’t like it,” but I just can’t seem to approve of their affair {sigh}. I suspect it is owing to the fact that while Jack is older than Sunny, she is still underage, that or it may simply just be my world view {shrugs}. I can’t deny how much I love the dialogue between the two though; it’s engrossing! I hope Sunny turns eighteen in book three so I can resolve this; it has to be a “mom thing.” ;)

AFTERTHOUGHTS:
For those who are willing to dig deeper, read this series. You will not only uncover a beautiful tragic storyline with realistic societal tropes, but a message never more important than it is now, that should not be passed up. You know, as I am mulling over this review, I am finally realizing, that dystopia and me, we are bound, forever. . . <3

I think this book deserves 5 stars for the story and plot, but the author made some of the minor characters be homosexual, which really bothered me. I felt it was unneccessary and did not enjoy having it part of the book. Fortunately those characters' relationships are not described at all, so I will allow my teenagers to still read this book if she wants to. I just wish it had been left out - the book would have been so much better. The ending does leave you wanting more. I can't wait to read the last book.

Not bad for the 2nd book in a post-apocalyptic YA trilogy. The beginning and end are a bit abrupt, as sometimes happens with the middle book. But it did a reasonable job of expanding on and reasonably developing themes, plot, and characters begun in the 1st book.

Even though it's still not really original (this time it's more of The 100 - the show), I enjoyed the book - again.
It was fast paced, full of action and some plot twists (which were obvious, but it didn't bother me).

I enjoyed Sunset Rising (gave it 5 stars too!) that I couldn't wait for Worlds Collide. S.M. McEachern writes a thrilling story.

I need to disclose that S.M. McEachern give me a free beta copy of Worlds Collide. I read this so quickly (which often happens with me when I want to know what's happening); that I decided to re-read it in case I had missed anything - second time I picked up things that I missed before - it was just as good, maybe a little better second time around.

I wanted to given Susan some feedback that would help; all I can say is bring on the next saga!

Worlds Collide has lots of action and starts exactly where Sunset Rising finished. I enjoy S.M. McEachern writing style, the way that she describes this new world and the new characters are so believable that I can picture them (especially with the help of the covers). I especially like that Sunny has grown; and that Jack shows more of his true (soldier) self.

It was no surprise that the Dome had lied to them and this outside world is inhabited by Dome Soldiers, culled Domers and descents of people left outside of the Dome. They way that S.M. McEachern adds new characters, locations and stories works extremely well - so much that I had to keeping reading. She interwove things so well that the two Worlds Collide literally.

I did wonder how the story was going to conclude, but S.M. McEachern got me - I didn't see it coming - but it was the prefect way to set up the next saga. She definitely knows how to kept a great story going - and I NEED to know what happens!

5 stars!

Cover reveal to come January 15th!

10/10

I received a bata cooy from the author in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book! It takes place immediately after the events of the first book. I read the first book about a year ago and it took me no time at all to get my bearings and enjoy the book. I still love the characters, both Sunny and Jack have an amazing relationship - even when Sunny is in denial. I didn't like 2 of the charcters (no I wont say who to avoid any spoilers), but they do act in a way that makes sense for what they have been through - they just didn't meet my first thought of them when originally brought up in the first book.

The plot and flow of the book are great. There are ups and downs and points where I genuinely could not put the book down. In fact when I did, because I had to work or eat or apparently sleep, I still thought about this book - there were many nights where I would have to force myself to put the book down to go to sleep only to think about it for another hour.

There is a twist that I did not expect and I welcomed it. Without putting in any spoilers, I think it's necessary to stop. Overall, this book was great and I believe anyone who read the first one will be pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this series (and yes I believe there will be another book to follow) to anyone who likes dystopian worlds. I cannot recommend this book enough. Sunset Rising was one of my favourite reads when I read it back in 2013, and now will be one of my top 10 from this year!
