Ayla picks up right where Grishma left off but if you haven't read it, I suggest you do so before reading my review for Ayla in case it spoils your enjoyment. That being said, let's get on with my review...
I had been chomping at the bit for Ayla's release since the last word on the last page of Grishma. If you haven't read my review of Grishma, but would like to do so, you can do here. When Kelly asked me if I'd like an ARC, I would've bitten her hand off if it weren't for the fact that we're on opposite sides of the pond. I'm so glad to have been given the opportunity to read it early, but let me tell anyone waiting for the release, it's really worth the wait. It's got even more action than Grishma, as if that were possible. It's got drama, tension and love by the bucket load. I was glad to get more of a chance to be one-on-one with Ryder this time round. I have to say, I'm in love with him. He's an all round good guy and his affection for Brooklyn is so pure. This time round, Ryder is in Necoh and has plans to kill Grishma for what she did to his family. But his revenge may have to be put on hold when something throws a spanner in the works.
I love Kelly's writing style. It's so fun and easy-going. She has a laid-back air about her even in the midst of the chaos that is this story. I love how she combines the feelings of tension, anger, passion and they flow seamlessly. My emotions were up and down like a roller coaster whilst reading this book. There were so many bumps in the road for both Ryder and Brooklyn and I felt really sorry for them that nothing was ever simple. But you know what they say, nothing easy is worth having!
I truly loved this book and I hope you will too. If you haven't picked up a copy of Grishma, do that now before Ayla is released, then you can be all caught up.
Thank you for reading my short but sweet review (I didn't want to give anything away).
Biggest pet peeve? Cliffhangers. OMG, I knew something was coming, but have to admit that I was not thinking this was where it was going.
Brooklyn is back home and surprisingly, only hours have elapsed since she and Ryder escaped Grishma by traveling to Necoh. Unfortunately, Brooklyn is home less than a day when she meets "Devlin" and ends up back in Necoh, as a prisoner in the Dark Moon Kingdom. In the meantime, life continued at a much faster rate for Ryder who meets two new eventual allies / friends, Wyland and Troth, as he continues his hunt for Grishma. En route to Bastu, they too are captured by King Sarku and Queen Nessa, Ayla's parents, and blackmailed into going on a task to capture Grishma, not kill her.
Brooklyn and Ryder are reunited for a short time while at the palace, but separated again as Ryder heads out on his latest adventure. When he eventually returns, things are not what they seem (so little trust between these characters) and misunderstandings separate them again. That and an unlikely alliance that places Brooklyn back in the hands of the King and Queen of Dratun. And here is where it ends...really?
Almost from the beginning, this book went in a direction I wasn't expecting. That's a good thing. It kept things interesting. Ryder is sent on a quest to capture Grishma alive. He meets new friends along the way which were cute additions. Brooklyn and Ryder have still had very little time together. In fact, they spend less then five minutes of awake time together in this whole book. So, I still question how they can be so in love. They don't know each other. I was really hoping they'd get some quality time together. What's going on with Alexia? We know Alexia has a thing for Ryder, but is Ryder starting to get interested in her too? The action was pretty non-stop, making this a super fast read. We are left with a cliffhanger ending. There is so much left up in the air with this ending. There are no resolutions to anything yet, and there are so many directions the story line could go from here.
Ayla by Kelly Anne Blount was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.
As great as the first book and an awesome set up for the third, Ayla was a wonderful read filled with romance and lots of adventure. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this one since I finished Grishma and as soon as I saw the cover I got even more revved up. Sure enough from the first page to the last Kelly didn’t disappoint with lush descriptions and loveable characters. I can’t wait to finish up the series!
I and hanging on by a thread! CLIFFHANGER!!!!! Love Brooklyn and Ryder. I hope they make it. I lose track of how much time has passed but I have my fingers crossed about *spoiler* Then there is Grishma....ugh...I am so divided in my feelings about her. Then there is Devlin, not sure about him either.... Wrapping my fingers waiting, waiting, waiting for book 3.
