A wild ride through some seriously dark territory. The trigger warnings here are not to be ignored (mainly S.A., Non-con, and violence) but if you're looking for something short, sharp, and nasty, then RV is a roadtrip worth taking. Don't expect likeable characters or a happy ending, do expect some seriously twisted glimpses of a seedy underbelly that I can only hope is purely fictional!

Book : RV
Author : J.M Bloodborne
Genre : Psychological Thriller/ Extreme Horror

•THIS BOOK CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS AND IT MAY NOT BE FOR EVERYONE•

This is the story about a road trip gone horribly wrong. I really don’t want to get into too much detail as this book already does that. But what I can tell you is that, as you read this, you will probably read it as if you were watching an extreme horror movie. It’ll pull your attention in as it’s freaking intense.

Hint : How do you fight for survival in the middle of nowhere?

Honestly, what’s insane is that the stuff in this book actually does happen in real life. It’s a scary feeling. Hence why I would classify it as an extreme horror. I only did not give this book an extra star because of the “cover”. Hence why I can’t post this on my social media or I’d receive the wrath of it. But thank you for letting me give my honest review on it.

It would also have been a 5 star read because the author thought this book out thoroughly. I didn’t see any missing plot. Loved that.

•Again, to those who wants to read this. Read the trigger warnings first•

This is fast, cinematic-style extreme horror. Four friends hit the road, an RV, and the story spirals from carefree fun to nightmare in no time. I especially liked how the backstories and choices gave the characters some weight. What unfolds is disturbingly rooted in real-world horrors, so definitely check the trigger warnings, because this feels all too plausible.

First I'd like to say this was my first Horror book. It felt like a crime TV show was playing out in my head. It was a quick & disturbing read! Every time I thought I understand or knew where we would end up, I was wrong. It is not a HEA type of book but I did enjoy the full circle it made. 👀

I didn't have any remaining questions at the end. I felt like everything was covered. RV kept me intrigued throughout & I'd recommend it to others.

I also really liked the MD character. You took the time to write about his past, the reason he is the way he is, & the descriptions during his "procedures"

You honestly gave me enough on each character that I stayed interested the whole time.

Thank you for opening my eyes to another genre that I can now say I enjoy!

My review is completely voluntary! 🖤

⭐️⭐️⭐️ — “A strong premise trapped in a lopsided RV”
🚐🩸🧠

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book had me locked in for the premise — and locked up trying to figure out why the first half felt like I was stuck in narrative traffic. We spend a lot of time with one character in the beginning, only for the entire plot to hit the gas halfway through the book and speed past at 90mph. It’s like being promised a road trip but waking up halfway through in a ditch wondering what you missed.

Also… can we talk about the names? Tara and Tori (Victoria) being so similar had my brain glitching like a scratched DVD. I legit thought I was being tested.

Now, the second half? Wild. But it felt rushed, like the author had a hundred ideas and thirty pages to cram them all in. There’s potential for greatness here — the themes are dark, the tone is unsettling, and the vibe is undeniably grim. But it needs more time to breathe.

Major points for including a trigger warning and not going full shock-for-shock’s-sake. The restraint in handling sensitive topics was honestly appreciated. 🙏

In short:
💀 Disturbing? Yes.
📚 Underdeveloped? Also yes.
🩸 Worth reading? If you like your horror with emotional decay and narrative whiplash, absolutely.

Just… buckle up. And maybe bring a notebook to keep the characters straight. 🗺️📖🧃

What?? SUCH a disturbing read - but hey we like disturbing right? If you do, this novella IS for you.

Take a trip through sick twisted evil minds here - there’s no other way to say it. An RV trip amongst high school graduating friends goes horribly wrong here (to say the least).

This one packs a gut punch and although there isn’t any happily ever after in this premise, we do get things wrapped up fairly well. I enjoyed being in the minds of the bad guys here also.

I’m impressed with this author’s (dark) mind and will definitely be on the lookout for more from him.

Def check this one out for some psychological terror and do yourself a favor and read those trigger warnings if you do have triggers.

Thanks to the author here for sending me my gifted copy. This was a deep and disturbing read - just how I like them. I’ll be featuring this and my review on my IG @ladybug_shirls.

This was kindly gifted to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. This novella packed such a punch, for such a short story so much happens however it doesn't feel rushed you feel the tension and plot building and the horror aspects feel so real and visceral making your heart sink and break and how easily real this story could be. Amazing work.

Going into this book, I had no idea what to expect. I saw the trigger warnings and the short length of the book. However, it was much deeper than what it seems.

This story is so tragic and definitely not for the faint of heart. If sexual assault is a touchy topic, then this is not the book for you. This centers heavily around sexual assault. That being said, it is eye-opening in the sense that this kind of stuff happens in real life as we know it. With very real locations being used for the settings and predators that exist everywhere, it makes you reflect.

Although this book was dreadful, I liked the story. It was sad and pretty hard to read personally, but as I said before, it made me think a lot. Young women are especially vulnerable targets for the creeps like these and so it's extremely important to be aware of your surroundings because this can become a reality for anyone.

I did kind of feel confused in certain areas. There were many people introduced throughout the book and it became a little challenging to keep up with who was who. But it all pretty much flowed together and made for a horror story with something to take away. Which I feel like is different from a lot of horror books you tend to come across. While those focus on making the reader uncomfortable, I really did feel like this was more about getting the reader to reflect on what was read because it had a lot of lasting impression on me.

** Thank you to J.M. Bloodborne and LibraryThing for my free e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I'm very grateful! **

"Darkness. Darkness and the sensation of being in a cramped space. Those were Mandy's first sensations as her mind began to clear. Despite her eyes being opened, there was nothing but blackness all around her."

Good Lord. Wow. This is... Absolutely not a book for the faint of heart. RV is a god-damn, intense, wild ride and makes for some of the most viscerally uncomfortable reading you'll probably encounter in the extreme horror genre. This is true extreme horror, from the very first page its riotous and never once does it ever stop, never does it let you catch your breath, you're barraged with atrocity after atrocity, and the longer it goes on, the more unhinged, the more violent, the more savage and intense and almost overwhelming it all becomes. Feeling much like a crossover between an extreme horror story, and a crime novel, RV makes for a wildly disturbing little read. It's short, over very quickly, but its not to the detriment of the novel.

In fact, if it were a longer book, it would be a feat to reach the end. Which, is exactly the kind of feeling that a good extreme horror novel should leave you with. It should be almost impossible to stomach. Other than being sickening, RV is entertaining, it's extreme horror made fun, it's a book where you can switch your brain off and revel in the madness. Understandably, for some, this is going to be too much, it's full of shocking, horrendous, gruesome content. This is, however, purposeful, because RV doesn't set out to make you feel good, it sets out to make you wish you'd never learned to read, it sets out to drag you, kicking and screaming, out of your comfort zone and into the darkness. There's something so tragic about this book, it's heart-breaking, really.

"He watched as the group each took a pill, crushed it into a fine powder, and then snorted it off the table. Interested in its effects, he took a pill of his own and followed the lead of his friends. The moment the powder entered his nostrils, he knew he'd found what he was looking for. He nearly wept as the depression and pain melted away, replaced by the warm embrace of the chemical high "

In RV, we spend so much time trapped alongside the victims of the story, which adds a certain... Weight to everything, makes it feel claustrophobic, crushing, cloying. It makes your heart race and makes you wish you could flick through the pages faster until you can feel safe again, and that, right there, is the mark of an effective story - to induce anxiety even in seasoned horror readers. RV feels like sort of a test, a test of how far you're willing to push yourself to read a horror novel, some of the scenes in this thing are so insanely distressing, and, it's all written so vividly, this novel really does bare its grotesque nature to the world, and it doesn't apologize for it, either. It's a relentless void, and it won't stop until it's ripped you open.

"Despite his overall unpleasant appearance, it was the look in his eyes that held all of Tara's focus. While her eyes continued to blink rapidly, adjusting to the brightness in the room, she hadn't seen him blink once. His torrid stare seemed to cut right through her, examining not only her body but her mind as well."

Note: The author provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This is one of those reads that’s hard to review—not because it’s poorly written (it’s not), but because of how dark the subject matter gets. I found myself torn, bouncing between admiration and unease. So, I’ll just get right into it.

At first, I wasn't sure if RV was a horror novel or a thriller. It felt, at times, like an episode of Dexter—a psychological cat-and-mouse game. But then it veered into territory so grotesque, so brutally real, that it firmly planted itself in horror. Not the supernatural kind. Not ghosts, monsters, or slashers. No, what makes this book horrific is real-world depravity—toxic masculinity, unchecked privilege, addiction, sexual violence, and the exploitation of human lives.

And let me be clear: RV doesn’t stand for what you think it does.

That twist alone is unsettling, but it’s the subject matter that demands a warning. This book delves deep into themes of human trafficking, sexual assault, rape, organ harvesting, and substance abuse. These aren’t handled lightly. They’re graphic, disturbing, and central to the story. I truly wish I’d known that before I started reading—and I want you to know it now. If these topics are triggering or harmful for you, this book may not be for you.

That said, RV has a solid foundation. The cast of characters is believable, though the short length of the book made it hard to fully connect. The men, in particular, are disturbingly well-developed—which, I believe, is the point.

The real horror in this book isn’t the crimes themselves—awful as they are—it’s the men who commit them. Each male character represents an archetype: the jock, the cop, the golden boy, the stalker, the gamer, the detective. None of them are caricatures, but each one carries a hidden rot, a razor-thin membrane between socially acceptable behavior and full-blown villainy. It’s unsettling how real they feel.

You look for a hero in this book—a final girl, a last-minute savior. You won’t find one. The women try and fail. The men start with good intentions but become part of the problem. That, too, feels horrifyingly real.

As I read, I kept thinking: This is probably accurate.
And that’s what chilled me the most.

Despite my discomfort, I finished the book quickly. It’s a short read, and that’s my biggest critique—I wanted more room for the story to breathe. With more time and space, I think certain character arcs could’ve landed harder. The ending had power, but it felt like it wanted to be devastating—and almost got there.

So, final thoughts:
RV is not for the faint of heart. It’s graphic, intense, and emotionally raw. But if you can stomach it, it’s an important mirror—one that reflects the horror not of monsters, but of men shaped by power, ego, and desire.

You’ve been warned.
Read accordingly.

Let me start by saying that this book isn’t for everyone, and there's quite a bit to unpack. So, if you're sensitive, consider this your warning—the intensity is ramped up to the max. I was invited to read this, and honestly, I feel I could have gone through life without it. Not only will I never look at RVs in the same way again, but the unsettling and clever reinterpretation of what RV can stand for really caught me off guard!

Four teenagers embark on a summer road trip in an RV to a National Park. Their adventure takes a dark turn when they are kidnapped. As they grapple with their fear and seek to escape, they discover the disturbing reality of their situation...

The narrative shifts between a few different points of view, which helps us piece together what has transpired and who's involved. The writing is excellent, but I could have lived without this read, as it’s labeled as horror, yet it unveils a different level of evil! I was happy to reside in blissful ignorance before this. Being a short book, character development happens quickly and succinctly; you don’t need much depth when the surroundings and events overshadow everything else—who needs character arcs when the environment does all the heavy lifting?

I struggled through certain parts because the raw and honest writing hit too hard. The reality of it all could easily reflect real-life scenarios, which makes the content even more chilling. The level of detail, emotion, and insight from the author left me wondering about their research methods. Some sections are just over the top—if we’re searching for the RV kidnapper, we all know who to point fingers at: Mr. Bloodborne! Utterly dark and creepy!

It’s a clever take on how things could unfold if you find yourself in this RV club, especially if you have a taste for the unusual victim and the means to indulge in it. If you’re not put off by violence, organ collecting, or the objectification of women—dare I say some readers might even find it intriguing—this might actually appeal to you. Most of the characters seem to thrive on these grim events. I can’t shake the feeling; I’m left deeply unsettled. Perhaps this book wasn’t meant for me as a woman, as it delves into the nightmares we face not just out in the world, but even in our own supposed safe spaces. New trauma unlocked! The ending left me feeling powerless, caught in a vicious cycle that the unfortunate victims faced.

Thank you, Mr. Bloodborne, for gifting me the DRC copy. My vacation will never be the same, and my perspective on RVs has completely changed!

What was meant to be one last hurrah at the end of high school turns into something much darker. Four friends set out in an RV, chasing freedom across the desert — until an encounter with a strange man at a rest stop changes everything. From that moment on, the atmosphere shifts. Something — or someone — is watching.

This one definitely took me by surprise. I went in expecting perhaps a slasher-style story from the description, but RV leans heavily into deeply disturbing themes. This book is TENSE. The author masterfully builds a sense of isolation and dread that lingers long after you put it down.

By the end, I was left unsettled — not just by what happened, but by the characters themselves. There’s no happy ending, no hero to save the day, and nearly every character, with the exception of the girls, was absolutely despicable. It’s bleak, brutal, and unflinching in its depiction of human cruelty.

This is a very dark story, and the content may be too intense for some readers. Scenes of sexual assault and violence appear early on, so reader discretion is strongly advised.⚠️

While the subject matter isn’t something I could see myself reading on a regular basis, I can absolutely see how fans of psychological horror would appreciate the author’s bold approach. It’s a story that grips you, even when you wish it wouldn’t.

What I Did Like:
+Vivid opening scene. Really drags you in and sets the scene well. Also, it’s hitting you pretty quickly with those content warnings so you’ll know what you’re getting yourself into.
+There is a scene (no spoilers) that introduces new characters. This particular scene also raises the stakes considerably. Before this scene, the story is awful but familiar. This scene catapults it into something new and somehow even more awful. Exactly what you want from a horror story.
+There are surprises from the story, which helps it to keep a little mystery and surprise the reader a few times.

Who Should Read This One:
-Horror fans who like dark, grim, and the worst of humanity.

This book was EVERYTHING! Absolutely loved it from beginning to end. An amazing psychological thriller but with a dose of horror added as well. Definite trigger warnings to be aware, primarily SA, so something to be mindful of when choosing to read.

Four teens plan a high school graduation trip to go camp in an RV before they part ways at the end of the summer. Not very long into their journey they stop to fill up their tank with gas and notice a stranger at a picnics table. What begins as a chance encounter quickly spirals into a nightmare they can’t escape.

The plot twists and turns contained in this book had my jaw very literally dropping! Phenomenal story telling throughout and everything came together beautifully in the end. Cannot recommend this book enough!!

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading some other reviews. The story was interesting, but heavy. Chapter six was especially tough to read. While there is difficult subject matter, it makes you think about dangers and what others have been through. There were a number of interesting twists. I think if you're used to how dark crime drama can be then it's worth a read.

DEVOURED this book! 🙈 I couldn’t put it down and was getting grumpy when I didn’t have time to curl up on the couch and dig back in this weekend. Each character has such a detailed backstory that it really makes you develop a sense of understanding and DARE I say it - compassion of sorts. Truly a real life horror. I’m never going camping again.

The author provided me with book for an honest review. I’m not lying when I say I devoured this book. It reads like a horror movie and the pacing was perfection. Every time a certain plot point was about to come to a climax a new plot point started up again which made me want to keep reading. The plot was totally unexpected in the best possible way. Man this was one hell of a ride. The concept was great, but the story seemed a little underdeveloped, and the writing lacked the depth that would have taken this to a whole other level. It is DARK, so please check the trigger warnings before reading. There’s no happy ending, and I left this book feeling super unsettled. But again, really strong work conceptually!

I will start by saying this type of book I usually wouldn’t read. Honestly extreme horrors/thrillers don’t do it for me. I’m a wimp & this book covers topics that made my stomach queasy, but I couldn’t put this book down. I had to know what was going to happen.

Saying that this played out like a movie in my mind as I was reading it & if it was a film I’d of probably watched it, maybe like this 🫣 but I would have still watched it. So I loved that.

I rated this book higher because of the emotions it brought out of me. I had so much hate for the men in this book.

If you go into this please read the triggers, your mental health matters. There are topics that are not to be taken lightly.

The author reached out and asked if I’d read his work, so I grabbed this one on Kindle Unlimited.

⚠️ Not for the faint of heart.
This is extreme, disturbing horror, so please check the trigger warnings. I’m pretty sure this is the most unsettling book I’ve ever read… and I read some very dark stuff.

The story follows a group of friends taking a trip in a RV, but it quickly turns into something far more sinister; a twisted, deadly game where people’s lives are at stake. The way the author weaves together past and present was done really well and kept the tension high throughout.

Dark, brutal, and unforgettable. If you’re a fan of extreme horror, this one will definitely stick with you.

Two couples decide to you camping. They stop for gas where they see a strange man watching them. They get to the campsite. A man waits for them to go hiking so he can get into the RV to inject drugs into their liquor bottles. When the group come back to the RV they drink and end up passing out. The man comes back, injects them with a sedative to keep them unconscious and he puts each one of them in a tote.

What takes place at that campsite is horrific. Men gather for an auction of young girls held captive and unconscious in a tote and are bought by these men for a lot of money. Once these captive girls are bought they are tied to beds, injected with sedatives and repeatedly raped. If something happens or someone needs to be disposed, someone known as the MD takes care of that by taking their organs to sell then cutting them up to burn the parts.

In the end it’s revealed that two cops are involved in this organization RV which stands for Rape Victim. Also one of the young men of the couples taken is drugged but spared because his estranged father is one of the cops that’s involved in the RV organization. He (Kevin) ends up getting his RV who is the girl (Mandy) he has a major crush on but was dating the other boy in the group.

This book has many trigger warnings and is very graphic, too graphic for me. It involved torture, rape, removing organs and cutting the body up, sex trafficking, men in power. Due to the graphic nature I almost didn’t finish this short story but painfully did . The ending did surprise me

An incredibly disturbing read that I devoured in one sitting.

RV is 189 pages and is fast paced, making it an easy and engaging read. This will likely appeal to readers looking to scratch a dark horror itch without committing to a longer novel. That said, the story shows clear potential to sustain its momentum over a greater length. The plot is well constructed, but the final 40–50 pages feel hurried. With additional space to fully develop the culmination of the plot, the ending could have landed with even greater impact. I genuinely enjoyed what I read here, and RV feels like a story that would truly shine if given some extra pages to enrich some of it's later scenes.

The story as a whole is chilling and feels extremely plausible in most aspects, which adds significantly to the tension and anxiety throughout. There is a solid range of characters, most of whom provide meaningful new context to the plot as they are introduced. My favorite character in RV was MD, who played a particularly compelling role in both the narrative and the broader progression of the story.

While a few plot choices and character decisions didn't always land for me, it’s impressive how Bloodborne continuously twists and layers the story, thickening the plot right up to the final page. RV was a fun, unsettling read, and with its pacing and atmosphere, I would easily recommend it to fans of psychological horror.

RV is a twisted tale of wealthy people who belong to a certain club. These monstrous people hold auctions for the right to brutally sexually assault kidnapped hikers and campers. Yes, you should pay attention to the trigger warnings because this book doesn't flinch from the subject matter.

A group of older teens decide to go camping to celebrate their recent graduation. These characters each have their own stories and backgrounds and the book details each one. Unbeknownst to them, they're being stalked and hunted by a man who delivers his "goods" to a secretive group of like minded perverts who pay a lot of money to purchase these "goods" for their sick twisted pleasures.

As we find out more about this group we'll see how widespread it is and how members include some very high ranking individuals in various powerful positions. It's a well organized group and almost unstoppable.

This is certainly not a feel good read. The subject matter is dark as night and bleak. The things the victims endure are absolutely horrific and will give you a visceral reaction. But it's one of those stories which feels so close to reality that it gives you that gut punch feeling and you can't look away once you start. If you're looking for a devastating dark read, I highly recommend this one.

So, I've read some pretty dark stuff. Lots of splatterpunk, descriptive horrors and thrillers, and well, this one just really got to me...
I supposed I've found a couple of my triggers, thanks to this book.

While the characters and story were pretty well developed, the subject matter was rough.

TW:
SA/R*pe, torture, murder, body horror, claustrophobic conditions

In short, there's an auction group for the purchase of R*pe Victims (RVs) going on between people with too much money and time so they buy, sell, and trade kidnapped people, keep them in storage bins, and r*pe them....over... and over... and over... with the aid of injectable drugs.

While the book was very descriptive in pulling me into the story, it was also too descriptive for me. SA in a book isn't new to me, but it being the entire purpose of a book, repetitively, just didn't sit right with me.

I'm also very aware of how claustrophobic I can get, and I was holding my breath... a lot. I will never look at heavy duty storage bins the same way again.

This was written well, but the subject matter was absolutely too intense and depraved for me, even after finishing a true crime book about the East Area R*pist / Golden State Killer right before this!

Appreciate the author for providing me with a free e copy in exchange for reviews.

Ok I’m guessing this book would fall under extreme horror or perhaps splatterpunk? Apologies if that’s incorrect but clearly this is not something I’m very familiar with.

On the surface, this book seems to be about four teenagers attempting to enjoy their time together before graduation by going on an RV camping trip. But in reality? It’s about a very organized group of deranged individuals who are basically sex traffickers. There is a lot of sexual violence depicted, which would undoubtedly make anyone uncomfortable. I understand if this is may be too much for some people, as it is horrific. But another part of me is like, yes, while this book is fiction, these things also happen in real life. Children, women, men, and yes it’s disgusting. I was hoping for a better ending but I guess it fits reality. We don’t always get the happy ending we hope for. True horrors.

Plot aside, the book was written very coherently. Very easy to read, just not so easy to digest if you know what I mean.

I’d strongly advise readers to pay attention to the trigger warnings before proceeding.

Admittedly, I had my doubts when I began reading this. The trope felt familiar and there have been so many times when I’ve read stories with very extreme beginnings that end up falling flat afterwards. I was concerned that this would be no different, but to my surprise, that didn’t happen here. As the story developed (and it did so quickly), I became fully invested in what was going on.

One of the things that stood out to me was that this story had many layers and the author did an incredible job at peeling them all back and making it easy for the reader to follow. Keep in mind this book was only 189 pages! And while the pacing was pretty quick, it didn’t feel rushed in the slightest.

Another thing that stood out was that I enjoyed ALL the characters and their back stories, even the ones I HATED! Each character had a purpose and they were all well developed. They also felt very real to me; these are people that can (and probably do) exist in this world. Gives me chills, honestly.

All that being said… this book was filled with unrelenting violence and suspense. It was a short read, but trust, it is packed with a great story and brutality that will have you cringing throughout.

This was dark, very dark, in a good but absolutely wow, what will happen next type way.
This is not for the faint of heart, and head the warnings, its heavy.

The twists though were wild, and I loved that the characters were actual well developed people, not just objects for the story.

The thing I really liked most, was this was like a dark crime novel, not just a dark horror story, it was more, and I liked that little change here. The story hit a little harder, because this is one of those things that can just happen, just because, no reasons and no warning, just pure evil, hatred and horror fueling the type of person reflected as the villain in this.

Well done on pulling some big emotions from me while reading this, and I found myself raging a bit, I felt the desperation the teens felt when they realized how bad things really were, this wasn't just a fun camping trip, this was a battle for their life, against something so ruthless.

Check this out if you like more extreme isolation type horror, again not for the faint of heart, but worth the read.
