The Book club meeting ended as Glynn, Sollie, Onawhim, Penna and Iris spilled into the parking lot to continue their discussion. Without warning, they noticed an unusual cloud floating overhead. Seductive aromas surround the five women, as they breathTransformationed in deep lung-fulls of unknown
Their transformation begins.
The chemicals they inhaled affected their brain function with each acquiring a unique set of enhanced abilities. Over the next weeks they gradually become amazingly smarter, incredibly efficient, highly persuasive, super-empathetic and more successfully prescient than each thought possible, effectively acquiring the very life-changing powers they've secretly desired.
But when Glynn was asked by the head partner of her law firm to research and evaluate a new chemical fertilizer (SCAB), things began to go wrong. She unwittingly gave her boss an incorrect assessment of SCAB and realized her mistake too late!
Horrified that her error might result in a potential ecological disaster, Glynn and her book club friends devise a plan to set things right. They quickly find themselves up against an assortment of corrupt politicians, scheming business leaders, snarky lawyers, and ego-bloated corporate executives.
Is SCAB safe for the environment? Or is it a toxic chemical sludge? Can our LIQuID 5 heroines use their new abilities to ferret out the truth without getting caught? The fate of the local environment, both physical and political, is at stake.

“Writing Holly Heights was a wonderful experience. As a marketing and public relations professional, I’ve always been curious about how and why people do the things they do - the underlying desires and motives behind their behavior. Creating Holly Heights gave me the chance to fashion my own answers.”
Women getting superpowers and fighting to take down the corrupt men involved in an environmental scandal. The story revolves around the members of a book club who use their new unexpected powers to fight back. Loved the unique take on superpowers and how they affect the characters lives. Glynn and Gil are such a sweet component to this story. Was a Goodreads giveaway! Really enjoyed the book.
I had high expectations for this book after reading the reviews. I was unable to finish the book because the writing seemed best suited for middle grades (although the plot it not). The conversations were duplicative between the characters, the speech was formal and forced, and the repetitive information was hard to get past. Additionally, the constant use of acronyms, which were explained over and over, seemed to overshadow the actual plot. While the idea behind the novel is interesting, I do not think it was executed well. This is my personal opinion only and there are plenty of people who did enjoy the book. It just wasn't for me.
Super excited to read and review Liquid 5 when I received it through a good reads contest. From the blurb about the book, it sounded like it was going to be a girl superhero book. Chasing down bad guys by using superpowers gained through freak breathing of unknown chemicals. Unfortunately, the book didn’t live up to the hype. One of the superwomen causes the whole mess they have to fix. So many silly acronyms. Too many references to “the wink, wink, nod, nod” A. Holtz play on words. I’m a quick reader and it took me forever to finish because the story was boring and the using of the superpowers fell flat. Great concept, poor execution.
What a trip!! This was a fun one with so many characters and plot lines to keep track of. But it all came together beautifully in the end. A fun who-done-it..or more like a who-did-what? The five women that the story centers around were chemically altered accidentally during an off-gas at a nearby chemical plant after one of their book club meetings. They all start to develop unique abilities and then use these abilities to set right a huge political and corporate scandal. I was hooked and along for the ride the whole time.
An enjoyable and different mystery. Sometimes I got a bit lost in the details but liked the book club group and how they adapted to their new super powers. Suspect that these women could accomplish a lot more. Also liked the cute ending. Won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
The blurb of the book was about women superheroes and I was really intrigued to read about ordinary women becoming superheroes. I was disappointed, this was way more about a company creating environmental issues and the women trying to stop it. I wanted more depth about their powers and we didn’t get to read about them, just that they developed the longer they had them and what they were. I don’t DNF books, if I do, this would have been DNF’d very early on. The ending of the book was very sweet.
With lots of superpowers, wordplay, and originality all bundled up in pages and pages of a fairly fast-paced sci-fi mystery, Liquid 5 is nothing like I've read before. Thank you to author Patricia Ruth for my signed copy of this unique book, won in a Goodreads giveaway.
