Simi Chopra #1

To Have and to Heist

Rate this book
12 hours, 31 minutes

To exonerate her best friend, one woman must mastermind a jewelry heist during the wedding of the season in this hilarious romantic-comedy caper from the author of The Dating Plan.

Simi Chopra is on a bad-luck streak. She’s lost yet another job, her student loan debt won’t stop growing, her basement apartment is a certifiable flood zone, and now her best friend has been accused of stealing a multimillion-dollar diamond necklace. To put it lightly, she’s desperate for a break—that’s right when Jack waltzes out of the bushes and into her life.

Jack is just as charming as he is mysterious. When he offers to help her find the missing necklace and steal it back, Simi jumps at the chance to clear her friend’s name and collect the substantial reward. But every good heist needs a crew. All she needs to do is transform a ragtag group of strangers into an elite heist crew, infiltrate a high-society wedding and steal the necklace from a dangerous criminal before the happy couple say “I do.” Meanwhile the bride is keeping secrets, a detective with a slow-burn smile keeps showing up at her door, and the ultimate robbery might not be the wedding con, but the way Jack is stealing her heart.

This book is a hilarious, action-packed rom-com with a "Ocean's Eleven" meets "Wedding Planner" premise that you won't want to miss. It's filled with adventure, humor, wit, and mind games, paying tribute to famous heist action movie scenes. There's more comedy than romance, even though Jack and Simi's chemistry is explosive, igniting each chapter they share a room with others.

The plot centers around Simi Chopra, who is experiencing a bad-luck streak. She's buried in student loan debt, living in a flood-prone apartment, and inadvertently stumbled into an octogenarian's sex dungeon. On top of that, her best friend was catfished at her last job and accused of stealing a multimillion-dollar diamond necklace. When Simi rushes to her friend's aid, a charismatic and mysterious man calling himself Oliver Twist drags her into the bushes, attempting to save her from being charged.

After hours of questioning by the hotshot, charming Detective Garcia, Simi discovers that both she and her bestie, Chloe, are prime suspects. She begins to ponder how to prove their innocence when the mysterious Jack Danger reappears in her life with an offer that could help them become safe and rich, but also puts them in grave danger.

Suddenly, Simi finds herself the leader of Motley Crue, a group of overqualified, underpaid, unemployed people looking for a way out to pursue their dreams. They are scheming to pull off a heist in the middle of the society wedding of two mobster families. Simi is also the wedding planner for this special occasion, with no idea that she would be arrested, shot at, shopping for a dress at the top floor of Bloomingdale's, hobnobbing with Chicago's elites, and doing surveillance missions in a short amount of time.

Can she trust her unusual and quirky team, consisting of Rose, an 80-year-old grease woman with a busier sex life than Simi, Chloe as a white-hat hacker, man-whore life coach Christian as the inside man, Anil as their tech man/DJ / drone operator with a photographic memory and dreams of becoming an MMA fighter, Emma as the speed-racer Uber driver, Gage as the hitman, and Jack as the lock specialist to steal the jewelry?

Can Simi organize the heist without anyone getting hurt and leaving with the necklace? Can she trust Jack, who keeps too much to himself? Can she also pull off a successful wedding that will earn her five-star reviews without getting shot by the mobsters? It seems like there's a lot on her plate, but Simi never says no to a challenge.

I had a thoroughly entertaining time reading this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy every second of it. Many thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for sharing this hilarious book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This book is a rollicking good time! A hoot and a half! A story that will leave you in stitches from laughing constantly! I had an absolute blast following Simi and her team’s hijinks and found myself rooting for her success, both professionally and in her love life as well. If you enjoy a rip-roaring adventure that pays homage to the great action scenes of the past few decades, alongside a budding romance, this is the book for you.

I HAAAAAATED This. THE MOST INSUFFERABLE HEROINE EVER. THE MOST MYSTERIOUS HERO EVER. The only enjoyable parts were Chloe and Gage and the ragtag crew KINDA. The love triangle wAS POINTLESS AND PISSED ME OFF. WHO WANTS A MAN WHO'S TRYING TO TAKE THEM TO PRISON?? IDC if "he knew I was innocent but he had a job to do" ANY SEXINESS IS GONE. This was the most thirsty bitch I've ever read and NOT in a good way. Just desperate and NEVER SHUT UP. MOTOR MOUTH CENTRAL. She was so DUMB in every aspect eXCEPT the plans for the heist and that was because the author wanted her to be, not that she actually came off that way. I wouldn't trust her to get out of a paper bag. Her obsession with her friend was borderline weird.

The ending was unsatisfying. I don't believe the love. This was NOT a romance. This was a "comedy" and I use that so fucking lightly. "Heist drama." That's it. Oh and the sex was referred to but not on page.

Read my updates.

A bubbly-light heist caper. It's a bit like how I remember the early Stephanie Plum books: very silly heroine in ludicrous situations with a bevy of incredibly handsome men all over her. Plus crew of highly eccentric people with useful skills, and a necklace to steal.

It didn't click for me, unfortunately: I think I just wasn't in a wacky hi-jinks mood. I regretted that because the crew is likeable and there's lost of good jokes and it feels like the kind of book that would make a really fun popcorn movie. Possibly it needed to be read on a beach with a pina colada, whereas I'm feeling picky and irritable in rainy London, so DNF at 40%. If you're in a mood for caper froth, though, voila.

♡ The relationship between Simi and Jack was toxic and I'm flabbergasted that the author would even write such a relationship and the relationship "advice" from one of the characters was the worst advice one can give a woman who is dating a man.
♡ Throughout the book Jack abandons Simi on EVERY occasion that she would need him even during heist meetings he refused to show up most of the time. There is a scene where they are ambushed and guns are pointing at Simi and Jack runs away and purposely locks Simi in the room with the gunmen so he could leave. LMFAO THIS MAN HATES HER! I'm literally laughing right now cus he left her with two men who threaten to kill her. Simi is NOT a criminal, she is a regular privileged sheltered woman! What romance male lead leaves the woman he "likes" in a situation like that? Then you have Simi's friend who tells her she shouldn't be mad at Jack cus he could tell she could "handle" it. LMFAOOOOOOO. This man saw her as someone who is insecure, pathetic, not street smart and he could use her cus she's that low on her knees. If a man like Jack, runs away from you, leaves you stressed all the time, puts his safety first, never informs you on life or death situations, barely shows up and only comes around when he wants to have s*x with you, changes the plans without telling you, only kisses you in public just so he can hide his face at party LMFAO, and chooses a life of crime over you till he's "ready" to leave that career- he doesn't like you and doesn't respect you!
♡ The characterization of the main character Simi was confusing and all over the place. The author constantly wrote contradictory stuff.
♡ Not a fan with the love triangle, especially since it involved a cop who was trying to get the evidence to arrest her best friend. But because these men were hot the main character ignored all the red signs. I will say the cop seemed to like her more than the actual main male lead Jack.
♡ I really think Simi should have been put together with her best friend Chloe and they become a couple because they literally acted like they were in a relationship together and in love. I am so tired of having to read about them calling each other "Babe" constantly, I don't know if they ever called each other by their first names.
♡ The humor was generic and not funny.
♡ The book over all just felt like unorganized thoughts and anger from the main character.
♡ Gage and Anil were the only two likeable characters!

This was a cute read. I'm not usually a romantic comedy fan, but I found the humor in this to be so well written. I laughed out loud many times and I absolutely loved the side characters. The heist aspect was fun and kept the book entertaining.

I wanted to like this, but I just couldn’t. I do think this is a case of it’s me, not you.
The book was interesting it just wasn’t for me. The narration and dialogue felt overly clever and witty, like it was trying too hard, and it just didn’t work for me.
I think my main issue is that I read Alisha Rai’s Partner’s in Crime a few months ago, and it was so similar, but (in my opinion) much better executed, and that just made this one a lot harder to get through.
Also I hated the love triangle so much. It was one of the worst I’ve ever read.

This book was such a good time. It was genuinely fun to follow along with Simi and her ragtag team of unlikely jewelry heisters. I know that’s not a real word but it’s fitting so go with it.

The story goes like this - In order to exonerate her BFF Chloe for a crime in which she was framed, Simi masterminds a jewelry heist during a wedding. Y’all can I just say we should all be blessed to have a Chloe or Simi in our lives. These two were BFF goals, down to bring the bleach at the first sign of a body. I loved them so much!

Every high stakes heist needs a crew, right? Simi corrals the most unlikely crew imaginable including BFF Chloe, her eighty year old landlady Rose, the mysterious Jack who she met hiding from the cops in the bushes when he took her captive, Cristian the womanizing gigolo who works at her dad’s tailor shop, Anil the good guy her well meaning parents are trying to marry her off to who still lives with his meddling parents, Emma her need for speed Uber driver and the big, brooding and dangerous Gage who acts as the muscle of the group. This cast of characters was the BEST! They added so much to the crew and the book. You can’t help but become enamored with them all. I wanted to be part of their crew while reading.

Y’all this book has that well meaning, fumbling good guys getting caught up in very bad things vibe that I have come to love. There was a lot going on and I was there for it all. If you enjoyed books like the Finlay Donovan series and Dial A for Aunties, you won’t want to miss this one. I can’t wait for more from this crew!

If there aren't more books in this universe, I will be DEVASTATED. Simi is such a hustler, jumping from job to job as she tries to keep herself and Chloe afloat. So when her best friend is framed for a jewel theft, she stops at nothing to clear her name. Talk about a ride or die! Add in the bon vivant Jack and a ragtag heist crew and you get a rom com for the ages. Simi and Jack have incredible chemistry, even though the last thing he's trying to steal is her heart. You get training montages, wedding shenanigans, and so many laughs along the way! I'd recommend this to fans of Finlay Donovan and Oceans Eight, or anyone who just needs a belly laugh.

The story starts off with a big case of “wtf did you do?” Simi’s best friend Chloe gets herself in a really bad position and as Simi is going to rescue her a stranger pulls her back and saves her from also being in a really bad position.

The verbal diarrhea that Simi has was so embarrassing to me lol.
I was kept wondering who Simi was going to be with, as with every book that had any iota of romance in it I focus on that aspect so the rest is just filled lol. I was always keeping Cristian in the back pocket 🤣

This book was reaaaaaaally long. There were so many LOL moments though, Cristian in the tube on the back of the speed bump had me LOL’ing at my hair appointment. The book I feel was a lot of a coming of age for an adult as Simi really was just floating around just being and not really taking on grown up responsibilities and not having planted roots anywhere but then she’s somehow in the presence of a hot cop (Garcia) and a master heister (Jack) so then I stopped feeling sorry for her.

Between planning a wedding and stealing jewelry and kidnapping this book had it all and kept you guessing.

More heist than romance.

The banter between Simi and Jack his very witty and entertaining.

This is a slow burn, closed door romance.

But mostly it is a book about two best friends that love each other more than anything and the antics that follow when one of them gets framed for a jewelry theft.

(And the opening scene where Simi is with an elderly man who fell unconscious and she calls her best friend who eagerly shows up with bleach ready to move the body, but it's okay he's still breathing and the paramedics are not amused!)

Simi hilariously, shows up at the museum with rope and a stick to help get her friend down from the second story window, when Jack saves her (for a while anyway) from getting arrested as an accessory. Their chemistry is immediate, but then when she finally faces the lead detective it seems there might be some chemistry with him also.

Our heroes seem like get so close so many times, but they did plan an epic wedding, albeit under false pretenses, but there was actually an elephant, and I think during the heist Simi found her true calling as a wedding planner with the perfect team.

This book seems like it should have a second installment. Fingers crossed.

I read and LOVED all three books from Sara Desai’s Marriage Game series, so was thrilled when this came up to request on NG and obviously had to read right away!

What I was not expecting was this to be more of a cozy mystery (I should read more plot synopses), which is typically not my go-to genre. If you enjoyed Finlay, Dial A for Aunties or Arsenic and Abodo, this is a must to add to your list. If you were hesitant about those but still love a hilarious story with a swoony romance, I would still give this a try!! Like in all of Desai’s books, the Desi representation was top notch, and I loved learning about the Indian culture. There was a great cast of supporting characters, jam-packed action and a lot of the ridiculousness expected with the cozy mystery fit with the plot. Simi, the heroine, was a relatable main character who I found easy to route for, and I enjoyed the mysterious love interest Jack, and watching him peel off his layers as the story progressed.

Simi is down and out on her luck. Fired from her last job, forced to move back in with her parents after her apartment floods, and drowning in student loans, things are not looking good. When her best friend is then accused of stealing a $25 million necklace, things go from bad to worse. Bound and determined to help her friend, Simi runs into the mysterious and oh so handsome Jack. A thief with ties to the underworld, Jack offers to help clear her friend’s name, if Simi is up for a heist. Enter a ragtag crew of misfits, a high-society wedding, reward money that would change all of their lives, and a little romance… what could possibly go wrong?

To Have and to Heist is a light hearted, goofy rom com with elements of a cozy mystery. Those looking for a silly read, and who can suspend belief at the shenanigans these characters get up to, likely will have an excellent time. As a reader of Desai’s Marriage Game series however, I was quite let down. I am unsure if my reading preferences have simply changed in the time that has passed since I read those books, or if To Have and to Heist was not a good pick for me at this time, but this book really missed the mark for me.

While reading I found the novel to almost be too silly and the language too causal. For a woman in her late 20s, I kept shaking my head every time Simi repeatedly referred to her friend as her “bestie” or called her opponents “bad dudes”. Perhaps it was a misinterpretation on my part, but I was expecting more romance in comparison to how much time was spent focusing on the heist and preparing for it. I would have liked to see Simi and Jack get to know one other more, and to see more depth to their relationship. Lastly, for such a light read, I was expecting a shorter number of pages. At times, the story seemed to drag, and I think a shorter length could have lent itself well.

All in all, with a premise that was clearly meant to be a fun time, a fun time I unfortunately did not have. But as they say different strokes for different folks! If you’re looking for a quirky and silly read, maybe this book will be for you.

Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for access to a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This could have been so much fun … “To Have and to Heist” is the first book in a romantic comedy series featuring Simi Chopra, a 30-year-old woman from Chicago who, like many millennials, feels kind of lost. She can’t keep a job, she doesn’t have many friends and now she has to move back in with her parents who used to neglect her as a child and are now trying to turn her into the perfect wife for one of their friends’ sons without asking Simi what SHE wants from her life. Simi's inner conflicts and her struggle to find her voice were my favourite part of the book. The heist is fun too. We could've had it all, except ...

Enter: The Most Toxic Love Interest I Ever Had the Displeasure to Read About

So, what ruined it? Easy: The love interest. Let me be very clear: JACK IS A WALKING RED FLAG. I don’t even want to lose too many words on this sorry excuse for a love interest but he sucked. so. much. Jack is arrogant, selfish and a coward. He clearly doesn't care for Simi on an emotional level at all and he's not even shy about it. He does NOT respect her. He keeps fucking her over and when she confronts him he doesn’t apologise, he doesn’t explain why he did it, he pretends he doesn’t even understand why she’s angry with him, like she’s somehow unreasonable for being angry his behaviour almost killed her (in some instances). But hey, I guess he’s hot and owns a motorbike, so what does it matter, right?

Every conflict is "fixed" by them having sex for eight hours or whatever or Simi just deciding she's so "tired of being angry" with Jack, she just accepts his behaviour and moves on without him having to do anything to earn her forgiveness. When he FINALLY says sorry to her towards the end of the book it's too little way too late. "I didn't know this kind of behaviour would hurt you :c", sir, are you insane? Of course disrespecting her, standing her up all the time (he doesn't even come to the heist team meet ups), putting her life at risk for your own gain and jerking her around would hurt her. Why are we pretending it's a big surprise she's hurt by this? How is this redeeming him?

Jack unironically being the love interest is SO puzzling to me because a big plot point of the book is how Simi's friend Chloe used to be in an abusive relationship. Simi spends a good amount of time trying to protect her friend from abusive men and making sure Chloe’s new love interest is a good guy, all while falling for the most toxic, most abusive piece of trash herself. Just because Jack doesn’t hit her like Chloe’s ex did doesn’t mean he’s a good guy. A man who objectifies you when you try to have a conversation with him, willingly endangers your life to save his own ass, tries to gaslight you into thinking you’re unreasonable for being angry with him and doesn’t respect your wishes or your expertise is not a “sexy bad boy” or “one of the good ones”, he’s abusive. End of story. This is abusive behaviour. This is how abusers act in romantic relationships.

Here are some of my “favourite” shitty things Jack does in the book:

♠️ Tells Simi he’s a gentleman for not sleeping with her while she’s super drunk. No, Jack, that doesn’t make you a gentleman. It makes you not a rapist. Low bar to clear, but here we are.

♠️ Keeps telling her how hot and sexy she is while she is clearly emotional or trying to have an actual conversation with him. “You’re so hot when you’re angry!” Okay, maybe treat her like an actual human being and LISTEN to her for once?

♠️ Withholds ALL the information while using Simi to plan and execute a heist to recover a necklace HE lost. Like, she’s doing all the work for you, buddy, the LEAST you could do is give her all the information you know. Guess not though.

♠️ Runs away while dangerous men point guns at Simi and leaves her to deal with it alone. HOW IS HE NOT THE VILLAIN?

♠️ Tells her “You deserve more than that” all the time but ignores what she actually wants in favour of what he thinks she SHOULD want aka what HE wants.

♠️ Right at the end:

Wait, There’s More

There were some other things I didn’t love. Like the way Simi keeps judging other people for having a lot of sex or being kinky. Everyone in this book is extremely horny ALL the time and yet whenever characters talk about sex (which is often), Simi is all like: Lalala, I don’t want to know this, I don’t want to hear this. Why include these scenes at all then if we can’t be adults about them?? The entire novel is super UNSERIOUS though. Sometimes that's fun, sometimes it's annoying, especially when it happens in more serious scenes or tense heist scenes. I don't need to hear another of Emma's sex stories right in the middle of a high stakes heist actually, thanks.

One big thing I also want to talk about is how this book keeps trying to be relatable to millenials but a lot of Simi's takes read like she's much older. (Not all older people are like this but you know what I mean.) The slut and kink shaming for once, but also her weird dismissal of Chloe's teenage daughter's feminist ideas. It's not just Simi's character though, it's the entire book. The single queer (bi) character is portrayed as a sex-addicted sex worker and no one takes him seriously. They make fun of him having IBS or being vegan or being involved in animal welfare. Like, he sounds like a really decent guy but he's portrayed as some sort of annoying loser. So is another member of the heist team for being into tech, being good at maths and having a photographic memory. There's literally a line in the book like "He needs to hide this better or he'll never find a girlfriend." Ooooh nooo, he's a NERD, how horrible, no woman could ever like these qualities in a guy! We can't all be red flags on a motor bike like Jack, so sorry!

I also didn't love how in the end I felt like I was excluded from the actual story somehow.

So, in conclusion: Was this a fun caper story? Yes. It had some really funny moments and I loved the heist. I also liked Simi and I thought her difficulties connecting to her family as an adult were on point. Sadly, it was ruined by the worst love interest I ever encountered in a “romance” novel so I can’t give it a higher rating. This could have been a four star read but no, the love interest had to be the most annoying, toxic, abusive trash man in existence. So two stars it is. I was debating on giving it three but honestly, the weird edgy/mean humour and the way this read like an early 2000s romcom in the worst way can't be ignored so yes. Two stars it is.

Will I read the second book? Probably, someday. I’m too curious where Simi’s adventures will take her next and I love heist books too much to not read one of the few newer series in this genre. I just really hope Simi realises Jack is horrible and loses him. Wishful thinking, I guess, but a girl can hope.

Was this plausible? Absolutely not. Was this entertaining as hell? Absolutely yes.

If you can suspend your belief and enjoyed the odd ball humor of Ally Carter’s Blonde Identity, this one is for you.

Ocean's Eleven meets The Wedding Planner...

Simi Chopra, part of a large, complicated, loving and loud family, finds herself having to defend her best friend, who is being blackmailed into stealing jewelry worth 25 million. From a mobster.

How? Become a wedding planner!

The book is billed as a romance, but really, the romance takes a back seat to the heist shenanigans, until the very end. Simi's crew includes her eighty year old ninja of a landlady Rose, the mysterious Jack who she met hiding from the cops in the bushes when he took her captive, Cristian the womanizing gigolo who works at her dad’s tailor shop, Anil the dorky nerd her parents are trying to marry her off to (who still lives with HIS parents), Emma her race-car Uber driver, and the big, brooding and dangerous Gage who acts as the muscle of the group. But he loves animals.

It's the gang that really made this story work. It's funny, Simi is wish-fulfillment competent and brave. The gangsters are real creeps, and it gets pretty violent toward the end, but romance wins. I hope the author is planning to revisit this group!

I want more books like this. This crime element in a romance novel is a great way to change things up. Unfortunately, this one fell kind of flat for me. The romance...wasn't there? There was flirty chemistry with the love interest, but never anything substantial enough to make it believable that they fell in love. In an effort to keep the LI mysterious, he was just absent for a large portion of the book.

I loved the found family/heist crew dynamic and the growth we saw in those characters. The detective confused me. For a while, I thought Jack was a decoy and Detective Garcia was the actual LI because he got so much page time.

(received from NetGalley and Berkley) The rundown: Simi is a 29-year-old who is struggling with her career. Hops from meaningless desk job to meaningless desk job, works part-time in the mall candy store, and generally feels unsuccessful and aimless in life. Her best friend Chloe, also a part-time hacker, gets tricked by an online friend and framed for stealing a 25-million-dollar necklace. Simi comes to her aid, thus getting herself involved with the cops and also under suspicion for being an accomplice to the robbery. Also, that night, a mysterious man named Jack attempts to keep the cops from finding Simi. To clear Chloe's name and keep both Simi and Chloe from jail, the girls realize they have to find the necklace and return it. With Jack's help, Simi forms a heist crew. A hilarious cast of characters are included in the hijinks to recover the necklace. And Jack and Simi... end up together... idk now we're getting into the review because... what the fuck?

You might be thinking, Allison, you sound really upset with this book, how ever did it get 2.5 stars from you? The truth is, I was definitely vibing with this book hardcore at the beginning there. Simi was a bit too quirky and weird for me at times but I set that aside for the fun found family kind of energy the story was putting out. It was definitely fun for the first half! But then I remembered this is a romance??? huh??? Heres the book for you:
- they attempt a heist
- theyre quite a silly cast of characters but it kind of works for them (some of the side characters are better than others, aka cristian was such a weird addition to me, and something about it was grating on my nerves and giving me the ick and also felt kind of gross)
- Jack is not a team player and is constantly absent from most of the heist stuff -- side note, there's instant attraction and infatuation between him and Simi
- somehow, despite Jack literally never being around in the story, Simi and Jack fall in love?
- Gage (big murderous muscle of the team) and Chloe steal the show (tbh give me their story)
- Simi has better chemistry and banter with the detective investigating her case than she does with Jack (which i believe is meant to be some sort of half-baked love triangle or angle to stir up Jack's jealousy?)
- oh and my absolute favorite part of this story (not), was the part where Simi continually expresses her frustration w the fact that Chloe and Gage are falling for each other ... yes... she proceeds to explain that her and her best friend have been there for each other for over a decade and is mad(?) that Gage is 'stealing her away' and taking Simi's job of protecting Chloe. what the fuck. i was so confused. SO CONFUSED. it was so weird? this detail of Simi continually having some offhand comment about Gage stealing 'her girl' away from her. like I get it but also i dont??

anyway. I wanted this to be something it wasn't. I was hoping for that 'I can See You' by Taylor Swift energy and it was simply not... that...

I NEED THIS MORE THAN PLANTS NEED SUNLIGHT THAN PRINTERS NEED INK THAN TAYLOR SWIFT NEEDS CATS

edit: finally finished this and umm what's up with all these love interests i've been reading about lately??? hello the cowardly move of running away n leaving her to fend for herself that didn't even take much groveling to get her to forgive him???? excuse me i liked the police boyfriend idea so much better they actually have more chemistry??? it seemed like jack n simi fell in lust not love cuz when did they even have time to interact much when he wasn't dodging team meetings and going off on his own?? and then sudd switching up and seemingly caring abt the team when in actuality it felt like he was more there for simi cuz they were boning?? um idk the romance part seemed like such a mess to me sorry icked me out esp the last part from his pov it was going well almost redeemed it at first but then it js got too much like he was laying it on too thick with the loving her and all that 😭 like she doesn't know jack(hahageddit)shit about him not even his last name 😐😐 and i felt some parts could have been developed so much better like the resolving feelings between chloe and simi and her abandonment issues were barely touched on like everyone who did her dirty jsut said sorry and she was like it's ok i know ur trying and forgave them??? im sorry but i would NOT let that slide simi deserves better but what saved this book for me was the wedding crewmayes themselves i love them all so much hello anil's genius move at the end ate too ??? what a plot twist also the angelini fam reminded me so much of the mob boss rat family in zootopia whose daughter judy saved from the donut LOLLL

felt more bizarre than realistic but i loved it. simi is just trying to live her life but nothing is going well because she was suddenly in the eyes of the police and a mysterious handsome man is asking her to steal a necklace. there were moments when i cringed at, especially when simi gets nervous and word vomit, but overall, i had a fun time. simi found a group of friends in the least expected of people. they worked well together even though it can be chaotic at times. it was an entertaining read!
