"Don't ask me to marry you."

That's Clara Ani's desperate plea to her boyfriend. It's Valentine's Day, and she suddenly realises she wants true love.

Aiming to be struck by Cupid's arrow, she goes off to a nightclub. And while enjoying her Long Island cocktail, she sets her gaze on a man...and they share a kiss.

Okay, I will start by saying, I have enjoyed *everything* I've read by this author and I've read quite a few by now.

But this story was very different from the other books. Our heroine Clara started out with a great guy Sam, who she dumped because...

Well Clara's mindset kinda reminded me of that line in Tamia's song Poetry:

I want the undefinable,
indescribable and more
and yet so clear
when you walk through the door...

Clara didn't really know what she wanted. She just knew that she was not in love with Sam. Yes, I wanted to shake her, because in real life you get a dude like Sam, you hold on to him and the love will come.

Here's a quote from the book: "Here was a man who wanted her, Clara told herself. A man whose feelings for her were genuine, even if she couldn't call it love. Sam respected her and was committed to her. Why couldn't she find all of that enough?"

Sam was even a real man when she broke up with him and was still respectful tho he did not want to remain friends. And I understood that completely. UGH!

But the plot thickens when Clara goes from breaking up with Sam to an upscale nightclub where she walks in and sees *him*

And the way the author described the new guy, the scene, the atmosphere--Tiwa Savage's Dangerous Love--is playing as their eyes meet etc. Whew!!

I was side-eyeing Clara through the book even as I flipped through those pages, drinking in every word to see how things would work out for her and Ronald in the end.

Something Called Love is not your typical romance, but an excellent read nevertheless.
