Breaking the Rules #3.1

Valentine Rules: A Gemma Rules Novella Part 1

Rate this book
What started out as an innocent assignment for work - accompanying a popular actress fresh out of rehab on shopping trips - has gained Gemma Kent regular makeovers by said actress and a sidebar photo on People magazine's cover! All the attention would be flattering, except she's become famous as a mystery woman with the Twitter handle: GlitterfrostGem. Everyone, even the local gossip column, is speculating about her identity. In real life, Gemma wears combat boots, poindexter glasses, and a prickly attitude. Now Randy Farrell, the man she can't get out of her head, wants a date with Glitterfrost Gem! Which would be great if he realized that invisible Gemma Kent and Glitterfrost Gem were one and the same.

This mini-novella by Mel Curtis contains the first three chapters of her upcoming full-length novel, CORA RULES.

Although Mel (who also writes as Melinda Curtis) has lived in Georgia and Texas, she's a California girl at heart. Her earliest memories are of life on an isolated 50-acre sheep ranch in rural Sonoma County, California. Picture rolling hills covered in brown grass, a eucalyptus forest, a long gravel driveway lined with plump sheep and no sidewalks. It was a big deal to drive into town on a one-lane road in a ramshackle, bubble-fendered pickup for an ice cream.

Flash forward to this century. Melinda lives in California's hot central valley with her husband - her basketball playing college sweetheart. With three kids the couple has done the soccer thing, the karate thing, the dance thing, the Little League thing and, of course, the basketball thing.

Melinda writes sweet to medium heat contemporary romances as Melinda Curtis and red hot reads as Mel Curtis. She loves writing romances about women who don't realize how strong they are until a hero comes along to show them, while capturing the wry humorous power struggle of falling in love - because, really, who lets the man have the last word?

This was a sweet and run read that kept me laughing. The author has out done herself giving you real emotion and drama that keeps you turning the pages. Gemma really struggles dealing with people, she just wants to be left alone behind closed doors to do her job. Her friends and family are always trying to bring her out dressing her up when she is more comfy in her boots and jeans. When Randy comes on the scene they get involved. He is trying to make a place for his self on the team. Gemma sees herself as keeping him from reaching his goal because he is trying to give both her and his game attention. One must be given up for him to make his way on the team it looks like she will be making that choice for him. When they both go to the same wedding things really heat up. Will they give in to the need for each other or will this be the end for them.

I really enjoyed this addition to this series it was fun to read. I got lost in the pages couldn’t put it down. I could really relate to them and what they were going through at time they really pulled on my heartstrings. It was wonderful to see Gemma come out of her shell and learn to trust. The author really did a wonderful job pulling me in with a believable read. It was well written with wonderful characters. Humor is always a BIG plus for me there is nothing like being taken away laughing and really enjoying what you are reading. This has been a wonderful series I can’t wait for the next one.

Valentine Rules was a quick and fun read.

Valentine Rules is a short novella by Mel Curtis, it's a quick look at how Gemma Kent/Rule and Randy Farrell become a couple.

I enjoyed reading both Gemma's and Randy's POV, it helped balance out the story by seeing what Randy was thinking and feeling and that it wasn't all one sided.

This was my first read about the Rule family and I found I was a little confused with all the names and who was who but it was all good by the end of the novella.

While I liked Valentine Rules I didn't love it. It was a nice read while I enjoyed my afternoon coffee :)

Thank you to the author Mel Curtis for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This short novella is a great fun read. Gemma Kent now knows that Dooley Rule is her father, not her god-father like he had originally told her. She got a sexy alter-ego, Glitterfrost Gem, that she used for certain assignments with the Dooley Foundation where she works with her half siblings. Can she keep up the fake image? Or will she decide to stay true to herself, even if that means losing the interest of her crush, Randy?
I loved the pace of this story. It was over way too soon. I look forward to reading more of the Rule books.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I Loved Blue Rules so couldn't wait to read this one. I absolutely Loved this book. Its short but its sexy as hell. Love Gemma, her combat boots, glasses and sarcastic attitude. She fits right in with the other Rules, love this insane and witty family. Randy I loved too, he knows what he wants and he will stop at nothing to get it and he wants the real Gemma not the glammer girl. These two together are perfect, i want to say more but dont want to ruin this sweet, romantic and cute story. 4 stars review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com

Valentine Rules is a sweet, romantic read. I really enjoyed Gemma and Randy's story. I definitely recommend it, especially if you want something quick and light that you can read if you don't have a lot of time.

Of all the Rules, I think I like Gemma the best...she knows who she is, and doesn't care what others think. A girl after my own heart. I wish it would have been a longer story, but it was a perfect before bed read. Great job. Mel Curtis RULES1

'Valentine Rules' by Mel Curtis is a fun quick read. It's the first part of Gemma Kent Rule and Randy Farrell's story. Can't wait to see what happens next with these two in part 2 'Wedding Rules' and part 3 'Bride Rules'!
