This method worked for us. We weren't completely potty trained within three days, but it did give a good foundation and starting point. I read this book on Kindle and one of my biggest issues was with the format of the book, which I found to be disjointed and distracting.
I have twins who are two years old. I started training one of my boys first because my other son has ankle braces to start walking and get used to. So I started my one son on the potty on Thursday, but wasn’t sure exactly if I was doing it right- (had a diaper on him and took him to the potty every 15 minutes). I downloaded this book that night and started reading it as soon as it was done. The next day (Friday), I started the naked method with an area of the living room covered with a larger blanket (for possible accidents) and the potty seat on it against the wall. I had him go every 20 mins. He had maybe 2-3 accidents I’d say that day, diaper only on for nap time and bedtime during the night. Day 2 (Saturday), I took him to the potty when he woke up and left him naked for this day as well. There were about 2 accidents. The only bad thing was that he would get really upset when he had to go and seemed to hold it in for a very long time (almost 3 hours at one point) so I caved once and put him in a diaper to alleviate any uncomfortable bladder problems he may have been feeling. Day 3 (Sunday), I had underwear on him half the day (all before nap time at 2pm) and he seemed to have two accidents in the underwear. So after nap time, I left him naked again and he ran to his potty area and onto the potty when he felt the need to go. He still got upset when he was peeing in the potty, but I see it as him thinking he’s making a mess when doing it. (He’s a very clean child who doesn’t like things dirty. He even looks at me with an uh-oh face when he gets dirt on his hands at the park haha) I continued to cheer for him, give him high-fives, and having him help me put his sticker on his chart). Later Sunday, he went to his potty, peed, and he didn’t whine at all and peed more than a little without crying about it. I am so proud of him that we’re getting past the “upsetting” phase in this for him. I really feel like he’s getting used to it and this book really helped me push through these tough parts. I have my child potty trained in three days because he knows when he has to go and where to go to. I know I definitely have to continue this routine though for the full effect. Good luck to everyone! I recommend this book !! I can’t wait to potty train my other son this way!
So the title is a lot misleading...you can potty train your kids to pee in the potty over a weekend. The reminders that you have to take your child for months afterwards and to the bathroom every 20 minutes...doesn't mean they're fully potty trained. I kind of knew this would be a little off but I wasn't sure where or how. But it's quite clear that this book should be more of a reference of how to start potty training in a weekend.
This book was a good refresher for me on the 3 day potty training method and I liked the authors perspective of training her children early. Lots of practical advice and good pointers to set you and your child up for success.
I read this book every time I need to get psyched for potty training. I tried potty training my son before hearing about this book and I failed... a few times. After reading this book, I had a few more tips and tricks up my sleeve, as well as the motivation to stick it out. Potty training blows, but this book was incredibly helpful for me and my family. I am prepping for training child number 2 this Thursday. Here we go!
Lots of good ideas of how to train a child in only a few days. I used a method similar to this for my boy, but Mansfield's way is more efficient and less messy! Nephew was trained using this book (and it worked, just as the book described).
Then I trained Grandson with Manfield's method. Wow! I did day 1 with pull-ups because I didn't have linoleum area set up yet. Day 2 was strictly by the book and worked exactly as the book said it would. By Day 3 the boy was trained. Niece trained at the same time; it worked for her, too.
This was a great guide and my daughter trained easily and happily at 20 months. In fact, I'm not sure I even knew where to start with potty training before reading the book. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about potty training a young toddler.
This was helpful. This method worked really well for us as far as getting our daughter to pee on the potty. Number 2 was different. SHE had to be ready, and once she was it was all over. So, for us, more like "Potty Train in a Week-ish"
SO informative and helpful. I love that she walks you through exactly how to do it. It's not too strict or too lax. Just the right type of method for a child that age! Highly recommend it!
