The Fall

Rate this book
“The Fall” is the first book of the powerful gripping rollercoaster rock saga of Christ's second coming into the modern world. Profound, vivid, candid and provocative!

For 2000 years, you have been awaiting my second coming. And now I’ve come back to save humanity, it’s all gone horribly wrong.

I have found myself incarnated in the body of Dave Headstrong, a controversial rock singer who has dedicated his life to fighting and debunking the Church – my Church! And to make things worse, this time I’ve come stripped of my divine powers. How can I reveal myself to the world when I'm trapped in this poor deluded mortal’s helpless body? Will anyone believe what I have to say or will they write me off as a madman?

I, Jesus, rock star, didn't choose this path, but I'm not going to give up. I am ready to fight for the salvation of mankind whatever the cost. Social issues, political conflicts, the venality of religion, a crisis of faith, love, hate, betrayal and a lot of loud rock music – I am willing to go through all of this to complete my mission. So, will you follow me?

I received a copy of The Fall in exchange for an honest review. Read the full review at https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/

From the jump, readers are introduced to David Headstrong and the boys of his band, Loyal Revolt, a strangely thoughtful gang of rockers that are firmly antiestablishment, and very vocal about it, for good and ill. Along for the ride is Jenny Wright, Loyal Revolt’s new manager, a ball-busting young woman who vacillates between sex object and den mother at varying points. Watching all of this, and commenting on it, is Christ himself, somewhere up in heaven, waiting to get zapped into Headstrong’s body and start walking among the imperfect of the earth once again.

This cast of characters in tow, the adventures of Loyal Revolt commence as they write, record, travel to concerts, get into barfights, and work very hard to convince us that David Headstrong is
the absolute worst person on earth, the exact opposite of Christ.

I was not prepared for how philosophical this book would be. The nature of God, the role
institutions play in society, anarchy vs civilization, and free thought vs conformity all come in to
play at some point in this book. Some scenes in the book touched me with their delicate handling, others felt about as subtle as a shovel to the face, a range that I think the character of Headstrong would approve of. Blunt, beautiful, putrid, The Fall is just the start of a journey that Eine has obviously been chewing on for a while. Now we just have to hang on and see what happens next.

The Fall is book one of the I, Jesus, Rock Star series of speculative fiction.

The story considers the second coming of Jesus in a modern setting with Jesus being sent into the adult body of a rock star who has the reputation of being extremely anti-Christ in his beliefs.

This first book builds up all the background and immerses the reader into the life of Dave Headstrong and his world famous rock band. The complex layers of Dave are peeled back, interspersed with the inner thoughts of Jesus, showing his concerns for this assignment.

The story includes song lyrics, music fan blogger posts, discussion forums and plenty of behind the scenes material that might be associated with a leading rock band.

I don’t read much speculative fiction and the rock world isn’t particularly my scene, but I thought that the book was well-written with good character development and an intriguing story theme. I was also impressed with the translation of this book into English, which was done very well.

Warning: this story contains profanity, licentious behaviour, crude jokes and anti-Christian conversation.

He’s baaaack… an irreverent twist on “WWJD?”
Bangers, bikers, and bloggers living life based on misinterpretations of a mistranslation from the original source material. So many complications simplified by merely studying relevant parts from the appropriate text. In his encore, Facebook, Google, and YouTube are the go-to media of the messiah. Should the message also change to keep up with modern times? If so, by how much (or by how little)? But I digress…

Is this Real or Fiction? Is it Satire or Truth?
In all seriousness, though. This book delves deeply into the intellect and soul – practically begging us gentle reader to seek within the darkest pits of our psyches. Below the surface of rock-star glam lurk ideology, mythology, philosophy, and religion. Excellent fodder for protest lyrics…

Some sage advice for our secular as well as our sacred struggles:
Think. Question. Challenge.
Take heed of what you worship.
‘Be bold. Be a wolf, not a sheep.’
Idols are for inspiration, not imitation.
Attempt to grasp opposing viewpoints.
Balance - life is a dichotomy of Pitch Perfect and Judas Priest.
Don’t be a slave to your outlooks on “life, the universe, and everything”.
Differentiate between fighting *against* something and fighting *for* something.

Fave line:
‘Everyone has their own rage.’

So…I’ll leave you with only one more question as we await ‘The Rise’:
Is there *really* a difference between “Heaven and Hell”?

"I have been talking a lot about foolish sheep, but I have to admit that sheep are not the worst aspect of humanity. And neither are the wolves that devour these sheep. The worst specimens of all are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They conceal their true selves in the guise of the most innocent lambs. But their fluffy fleeces cannot hide their true identity as the most bloodthirsty predators of all."

And with this quote I understand the idea that Anton Eine is trying to portray here: take the *worst* soul G-d could find, and send Jesus back to get their point across : that at their best humanity has to have someone like David Headstrong to even begin to make them listen.

Yes, the language isn't sugar coated here, more like NC-17. And Headstrong's actions are quite blasphemous according to today's "standards". The question is: will anyone care? Or is this just another person blah blahing their way through life? That's the fascinating part of this story. Even Jesus, incarnate in Dave Headstrong, wonders if this wasn't a mistake. As retired ordained clergy, I loved the irreverence that Eine has but can really see, or believe I see, the "WWJD" attitude.

Anton Eine will be both praised and hated depending on whether you see his point clearly or not. Can you? Recommended 4/5

I am Christian, for want of a better term. And this books rocks. It raises many of the same questions that I have had when I look at the church and reality. I also love rock music, but music that contains things that are thought provoking. The lyrics by Dave and Steve are though provoking. Actually, this book is thought provoking. But just like of Dave, there will be people who love and hate this book.
One thing that I really enjoyed about this book is the different character perspectives, namely, Dave and Jesus.
When reading this book, I kept an open mind, keen to explore what the Author has to say about the long-awaited return of Jesus, that has been expected at any moment for so long. This return of Jesus is expected in a certain way according to the church. This book blows all these theories out of the water.
This book really is something I have never come across before in writing. I have not read everything, but this is one of the better reads in recent times and I am keen to read the next book.
Highly recommended.

An interesting and unusual mix of what, to me, seems to be rock music, speculative fiction and literary fiction. Highly unusual, and well written, also well translated, with very few errors.
I think this would hugely appeal to anyone with an interest in rock music, anyone young who is interested in any form of music, and anyone who has an interest in religious theory - whether for or against it.
As I said, highly unusual!
It is also a long book, and for me it lost a star as I wondered whether a more vigorous editor may have cut it down a bit.
Yet each page was interesting - and I am very glad that I read it. Personally
I preferred the narrative to the songs and social media, although other readers may of course differ. This was definitely not a book that could be skim read, with every sentence obviously carefully crafted.
If you like to read something a little different from the norm, then it is well worth giving this book a try!

One thing you can say about Anton Eine-he is not afraid to tackle controversial subject matter. In this novel Jesus Christ returns to save the world. Mr. Eine uses this concept, mainly in the form of a famous hard rock musician, David Headstrong, to air many criticisms of organized religion, In particular the Catholic Church. He has created a fascinating character in Headstrong, who gravitates between being a decent person at times and a reprehensible jerk at other times. The interaction s of the members of the band are very realistic , and Mr Eine creates a memorable, wild barroom brawl while the band is on tour. Like most great art, Mr Eine poses interesting questions on theological issues, without necessarily proving answers. In other words, he wants the reader to think. I look forward to the sequel.

A word of caution. This book has profanity and fairly explicit sets scenes, so it is definitely not for children.

Interesting concept with Jesus as narrator as He prepares to take the body of a leading rock and roller, Dave Headstrong. The discussions of music between band members can be a bit pedantic to one not well versed in music theory, but they are interesting. Dave is at war with the powers of organized religion which will probably be interesting in the next book.

Great read for all music lovers but not only that. Anton Eine, known for his techno-fantasy series Programagic and sci-fi stories collection Human Kind here dives deep into eternal questions on religion, human nature and sense of being. "The Fall" (first in upcoming trilogy) has a rock-album at it's heart - by form, where chapters are presented as Tracks, and book itself is a "disc", and by content - you will literally be living this rock band life with the band members.

Can David, lead vocal and guitar, “A singer who rebelled against God and the Church, against society and its conventions, against faith and religion. A man notorious for his eccentric delinquent antics. A walking headache for the Church, the police and lawyers the world over.” - can he be a suitable figure for the Son of God to be “ended up in the body of” for his second coming? Well, we will definitely want to find out.

Anton Eine does a great job in writing this unique concept, it had a great overall feel to the story. It uses the Jesus Christ elements perfectly and had a great story overall. It was a great start to the I, Jesus, Rock Star series, it had the elements that I was hoping for and left me wanting to read more in this series.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Big yawn

What a bore. Not that I disagree with calling out the hypocrisy of organized religions, but do we have to read the same diatribe over and over and OVER? Yet I persevered (by skimming a lot) to the end only to be rewarded with a cliffhanger. I won’t be seeking the next installment.

Much the same as my own opinion

The preaching of anti religion was a bit over the top. But wonderful characters and story. Wish he had developed his personal relationship with love a little more.

Just not the book I thought it would be. I couldn't find a character to care about. Didn't finish it.
