Followup to HER DAKOTA MAN and BADLAND BRIDE by USA Today Bestselling Author, Lisa Mondello.
DAKOTA HEAT book 3 of Dakota Hearts
Hotshot Sam McKinnon was always leaving town, chasing another fire until his own hometown became vulnerable during the fire season after a devastating winter flood left debris and destruction in its path. He didn't expect out of town dispatcher, Summer Bigelow, to catch his eye or his heart.
It hadn't been Summer's idea to move from Providence to South Dakota, but when a serial murderer suddenly turns his attention on Summer, her boss insists she leave town...at least until the heat dies down. She's dealt with high tension, life or death situations many times in her job. It isn’t until she meets Sam McKinnon and falls for the sexy Hotshot that she really begins to know fear. The fear of losing someone she loves.
USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR, Lisa Mondello, has held many jobs in her life but being a published authors is the last job she'll ever have. She's not retiring! She blames the creation of the personal computer for her leap into writing novels. Otherwise, she'd still be penning stories with paper and pen. Her first book, All I Want for Christmas is You won Best First Book in the Golden Quill. Her books have finaled in the HOLT Medallion, and the Colorado Award of Excellence contests. In 2011 she re-released her award winning book All I Want for Christmas is You along with a re-issue of her romantic comedy, The Marriage Contract, with a new contemporary romance called The Knight and Maggie's Baby. In 2012 she reissued the first 3 books of her popular Western Romance Series TEXAS HEARTS including Her Heart for the Asking, His Heart for the Trusting and
It's getting hotter in here! Another McKinnon meets his match in the third book in the Dakota Hearts series. The story of cleaning up after the storm continues, this time set in the summer preparing for fire prevention. A little twist to potentially carry into future books as well! And now a bit about the story...
Summer, a 911 dispatcher, has a serial killer after her. Her chief can think of no other alternative, than sending her to the middle of nowhere. Rudolph, South Dakota to be more specific. She has fire dispatcher certification and Rudolph is gearing up for a summer of fires. Instantly Sam, the hotshot firefighter is drawn to her. Join them as they discover love and fight to survive the summer.
Favorite passages: - "I know you don't believe me, but your heart is safe with me." - "Last night you were a gentleman," she said, looking up at him, trying to show him just how sincere she was about the way he'd treated her. "And there's nothing sexier than a gentleman."
A relatively short read which was fantastic for a, ‘start and finish in one sitting’ read. Set in a summer fire season it resonated with me. The descriptions of the area and the fire’s heat were very real. Sam comes across as a very self assured man, comfortable with himself and his appeal to women. It is rather funny to see him bought down a peg or two by Summer’s dismissive answers. Their attraction grows, especially when danger comes to too close for comfort for both of them. A good read set in a wild environment.
My biggest complaint is the ending. It started out interesting with the plot of the serial killer but you never finished it. You just upped and ended the book. The main theme of this book was that she has a serial killer after her which is why she had to move and nothing. He is still after her after the book ended and she just somehow doesn’t care because she ends up with the dude. That’s dumb!
Love Hotshot and smokejumpers. We have a base in our area. He's on a Hotshot crew and she's hiding from a serial killer. There's humor, romance, a little sex, and good descriptions firefighting. Really like this family series. Highly recommend.
I enjoy these stories because they are set in South Dakota which is where I'm from. They are just the right length for me, I tend to get a little bored when the book /story is too long
This is the story of a hotshot firefighter and the dispatcher who met after she was posted outside of her home town to his area because of a serial killer who was loose and coming after her. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Enjoyed this book and hoping their story will continue in another book. Summer and Sam make for a great couple and their story was just too short. Wish there had been a little more.
Dakota Heat by Lisa Mondello is a 2014 publication. I as provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Sam McKinnon is a fire chaser. He's always on the move helping to put out large wildfires. When his hometown of Rudolph becomes a fire hazard he parks himself on his home terf for a while. The last thing he expected was Summer, a dispatcher from Providence to show up. Her reasoning for wanting to work in South Dakota is a little thin for Sam's liking. Something is going on with the beautiful Summer, but he never would have guessed she had caught the eye of a serial killer and was laying low for awhile. Summer and Sam are falling in love but Summer is trying to keep things from becoming too serious. When the danger to Rudolph has passed Sam will be off to put out more fires somewhere else and she will eventually return to Providence and her old job. Why start something they wouldn't be able to finish? When the truth comes out as to why Summer took the job in South Dakota Sam understands an entirely new kind of fear. What if someone got to Summer when he wasn't there to protect her? But, Summer may not be the only one in danger as a deadly fire breaks out and Sam must put his life on the line to save the town of Rudolph.
This latest book in the series once more shows the author's versitality. Not only has she written a contemporary romance, but this one has a suspense element as well. While Summer deals with dangerous situations all the time, she has never been the target herself and she doens't like being sent off away from home because of it. Her professional life might be adventurous, but in her personal life she is more cautious. Sam is a ladies man and Summer would rather he flirt with an old girlfriend while he is back home and they are forced to work together, but Sam has eyes only for Summer. Will they survive the fire season and the danger Summer is in? Will they be able to pave a path for thier own HEA? While for me personally, the first book in the series is still my favorite, I really enjoyed this one al lot too. I love firefighters , so I was already excited about reading this one. Sam and Summer are a more mature acting couple and I really related to that. I think these two will have no problems at all working out the logistics of their relationship. Overall I give this one an A.
Dakota Heat by Lisa Mondello Dakota Hearts Series Book 3 Sam McKinnon has returned home to Rudolph, South Dakota. If he wouldn't give up his work as a Hotshot, at least his mom was a bit happier to have him close to home. She'd be even happier if he fell in love and married. Sam was about to find out that life could be as unpredictable as a wildfire with changing winds.
Summer Bigelow didn't want to leave Providence, Rhode Island to begin with. And to go where, to a desolate place like South Dakota? Because that's where her boss was sending her. Truth was that knowing a serial killer was watching her every move was motivation to do just that. And then along came Sam McKinnon to set a whole other set of emotions on fire inside her.
I have really enjoyed this series so far. Her Dakota Man and Badland Bride are the first two books in the series and there will be five books in all. The McKinnon brothers are finding love in their hometown as they all come together to help with the cleanup from some unexpected winter floods that devastated their small town. This book is a romance with an added touch of suspense along with a slight look into the reality and dangers of being a Hotshot fire fighter. **Sexual content http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Full review at For Your Literary Pleasure This series is short and sweet romance. Mondello gives enough back story for her characters to be believable. The romance develops quickly but with a novella length novel it's understandable."Dakota Heat" built up a lot of drama only to have half of it fizzle out into nothing. It left me feeling like I'd lost out on a scene but otherwise it was a definite page turner. Mondello writes solid romance novels in easy bite sized pieces.
The book is the third of the the Dakota series by Ms. Mondello. It’s a stand alone so do not fear you will be lost with the storyline. It’s a short sweet story with some suspense and romance. We return to the McKinnon family and their very handsome sons. This one centers around Sam. who is a hot shot firefighter and Summer. Summer has had to leave Providence due to threats to her life while she was working as a police dispatcher. Her boss sends her to the West so she can be safe . A nice story and one that will make you return to South Dakota with Ms Mondello.
My Thoughts on Dakota Heat: Lisa Mondello continues to write fantastic stories about incredible - yet so real - characters. You know when you start reading that you are going to love the story and that the people in it will seem real. The pages turn almost on their own as the story unfolds and then comes to a satisfying, yet unwanted end ~leaving you wondering when you will have the chance to read the next one.
I’m enjoying this series. There isn’t any major drama and def no angst. If you fancy a little bit of romance in your lunch hour then these are for you. Very quick reads but still good stories.
Looking forward to more from the McKinnon family 3.5 stars
Summer is being stalked by a man in Providence, so as a police dispatcher, she is sent to be a fire dispatcher and meets Sam McKinnon! Read this book and series for a great and exciting read!
