Intriguing

A story about a man whose father is about to die. Bringing back memories of how his mother was brutally murdered. He saw his mother being murdered but but not by whom.
It's a quick short read that keeps you wanting to discover the real killer.
I just couldn't be invested in the characters I felt they could have been more developed and the killer is announced almost immediately. Unless it may not be the real killer...
For some reason I just didn't feel grabbed and pulled in enough to give a four or five star rating.
That's not to say it's not a good book, because it is. Maybe one not for me.

I downloaded this short story eBook as I often like to read short stories in between full novels. I had high hopes for this one but it was really nothing of substance unfortunately.

Michael Anderson lies on his death-bed and carries a great deal of guilt for the actions he has taken over the years. A son that he believes he has failed and a wife that was lost to him many years ago.

Paul Anderson is summoned by a telephone call so that he can speak to a father that has a confession. A father for which he holds resentment and has not seen for the last two years.

The story flits back and forth across timelines from the past to the present with Paul Anderson recalling childhood memories that had been long forgotten. It's presented as a mystery this book but I did not really feel that it had a lot of mystery surrounding it.

The writing did not have much substance and the plot was weak, there is a follow up to this book but I won't be investing in it. It's a shame as if this story was fleshed out a bit more and had more depth and mystery to it, it had potential to be good. An "okay" fill-in book.

disappointed

(Spoilers) When I first started reading, it piqued my interest and I thought I was on to a good book, but before I was too far in, I had already solved the “mystery” and finished the book without even reading it. The story became flat, it was like it started out well and then there was a race to cram everything in. The reaction to a woman finding her husband a murderer was flat. Disappointed and sad? I think after discovering the truth, it was just too rushed to find a good ending. It failed.

REVIEW FROM AMAZON UK:

This story will never win literary prize of the year, and I wouldn't be surprised if some might say it was a bit amateur, but I LOVED IT!
It's a short story (just 96 pages), that gripped me from the very start, and kept building momentum, making me want to keep reading it to find out what happened next.
As there are just five people involved, the story is extremely easy to keep track of, and I would recommend it for a bit of light reading matter.

I didn't like how the story was developed, but the style it's quite good. I didn't like the main character, you don't treat your father who has just suffered a stroke in that way,no matter how bad your relationship with him is. I didn't like the way Paul thinks,he doubts about his father and doesn't even think about what he sees or thinks to know, his impulsivity bothered me a lot. Dialogues and characters were quite bad,the end of the story was predictable.

I got this book for free on my kindle and it was a short, enjoyable murder mystery. However with it being short, the plot accelerated quickly but I couldn't help but think as a reader I was thrown in the middle and left to find my own way out. I also found the plot predictable and guessed the ending after the first few chapters. I would recommend it if you are looking for something quick and light to read but if you are after a complicated, mind blowing murder mystery...avoid this one!

Don't bother to read unless you enjoy wasting an hour of your life.

I do not understand why this has received such good reviews. It is incredibly badly written. The dialogue is laughably bad.

The outcome is obvious by half way point.

Scenes are included which make no sense to the overall plot.

I'm sad to dismiss someone's work but this is not worthy of the reviews it has received.

I can see why this story is doing so well on Amazon. It's a beautifully crafted piece of fiction and a true page turner. Until the final page I was hooked and now looking forward to more work from the author.

A fabulous page turner from start to finish. Well written, though there were a few typos. There were only a few characters involved in the whole story, and they were strong and well developed. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Chilling story set in a "huis clos" situation, family members in an isolated house in a snowstorm.
The story alternates present day events and flashbacks to the protagonist's childhood, to something traumatic, the truth of which slowly emerges. It's a short novelette, a good read.

I didn't enjoy this story, it was too short without enough flesh on its bones. The writing style wasn't to my taste, I found the repetition of full names annoying and the story line trite.

This may have been a kindle freebie but not one I'd recommend sadly.

This book needs to be seriously edited. Personally I wouldn't waste my time on it. Story was poor and predictable.
